AGREED. I want an analogue future, not just in photography.

The Epson RD1 (I think) had a winder that you had to cock before taking the picture. And it sounded good. Still digital but filmish.

I watched my dad unbox his brand new SRT303b back in 1977. That same camera works to this day without any CLA whatsoever. Enough said...

These cameras at their core arent THAT complicated. You would think that a large company would keep at least one line of mechanical film cameras in production. there is a clear demand and really always has been. doesnt make sense to me either. One thought i have is that they might worry it will eat away at their digital camera sales but i really dont think so. if anything it would secure interest in people starting out.

Sadly that will be incredibly niche.

Camera development takes 3-5 years, it cost several millions of $ just to pay R&D team, then it cost another millions to build prototypes, another money for testing, another huge amount to set-up production line and all the toolings both internal and for external suppliers. And then imagine how many of such cameras will you sell.. couple thousands? That is optimistic. So one camera would have to cost over $50 000 to even pay for the inputs. That is the reason why manufacturers only produce things that make some sense. Unless they are Ricoh who happily dumps money into various traps.
