The X100VI will be my first X100 series camera. I preordered one from a camera store in Louisville, KY after the announcement on Feb 20. The camera sounds good to me as it is. It will be like having the modern advanced version of my Canon SureShot fixed 38mm lens point and shoot film camera from the 1980s. I used to keep that camera in my car under the front seat in case I wanted to take a picture wherever I was. It held up in the summer heat in the south. I don't know how well the X100VI will hold up storing it in my car, though.

I like to update to VI. Because the fixed lens I need the 40mp sensor for cropping to 50 and 70mm focal length. Also, I am getting old and my hands are not that steady as before. The IBIS really helps.

Welcome back Booray! Im not upgrading. I've had my V less than a yr, am a hobbyist and still acclimating to the Fuji system (menus, film sims, etc.) vs Nikon. When I find I NEED ibis, larger sensor, better auto focus, I'll upgrade, otherwise I'll continue to love the V. And, there was no doubt that you're upgrading. I'm actually surprised you didn't get a preproduction model to review..... but you were a bit busy. As always, thanks for your honest perspective.

I recently sent off some old gear to KEH so I could buy the new X100VI. One of the cameras I reluctantly parted with was my X100S...really hated to let it go for old times sake. I'm keeping my X100V for now as I just can't bear to part with it. I bought an X-T5 last summer and I love how I'm now able to crop images. Like you, I clicked on the pre-order button at B&H as soon as I saw the two most things I wanted to see...upgraded sensor and IBIS. Keep up the good work.

I’m a Canon system guy with loads of pro lenses, bodies etc but loved my Fuji 6x9 film camera from 30 yrs ago and always used Fuji films.
I’m off to China on a tour in a couple of months so I’ve ordered a Fuji VI to take alongside a much scaled down Canon kit. As I’m staying in some old cities it’s a far better option than a giant SLR.
I may take my great little EOS M5 and two or three good lenses, mainly for the Wall and river shots etc. As I’ll be 65 and there is a lot a travelling, carting 6 to 8kg of pro stuff around day after day is too much. I did think I’d get an iPhone 15 pro max (video) but that costs nearly as much as a VI and will never be the same quality.
I think Fuji for people, my wife, cities etc and longer reach gear for elsewhere.
I did try out my Canon 70-300 mk2 IS on my M5 with an adapter the other day. Looks a bit daft but totally works and as a cropped sensor goes out to 480mm. With IS and lightning fast focus, I was very surprised. No idea what the battery life will be driving its nano drive but I have 4 of the right ones.

I wouldn't have minded a slightly bigger and heavier body for a better battery. The performance of the NP-W235 with the X-Processor 5 is incredible. I wish they upgraded the card slot to UHS-2 and added weather sealing without having to attach the adapter ring but oh well.
I sold my X100F a last year to get the XT5 but I miss it. I'd love to get the X100VI but I'll survive without it.

Welcome Booray! Looking forward to your next video.
I hope that the introduction of the X100VI allows me to get on an older X100( either F or V) at a good price.
Fuji cameras are insanely priced right now on online stores, evwn aome very old models. Its crazy!

    • @martingreenberg870
      @martingreenberg870 9 месяцев назад

My guess is X100 bodies are going to crater in price. Some X100V owners are going to sell to offset the price for the VI. Fuji is going to produce X100VIs so the supple will increase. The price of new bodies will be lower than a three year old V. Dive! Dive!
I ordered a X100VI from B&H at 9AM EST. I don’t have the V. The 235 battery will be incorporated in the VII. That will mean a larger body. Maybe that means a larger grip. This is a photocentric body. The tilt screen is the right decision, in my opinion. Please Fuji give us a full size audio jac. You gave us so much video features.

Nobody has mentioned this but this will be the first X100 line made in China. As Booray pointed out in his excellent video on the importance of the leaf shutterin the v, it is a delicate mechanism and I wonder if in the first year in the rollout the Chinese can get that manufacture down right or if there'll be some bugs in it as is usually the case in these kinds of things.

Of course I want a flip screen!
    I will keep the X100V, XT4, DCI Pocket 2.
Have IBIS on the XT4 and gimbal on the Pocket 2. Don't care about 40mp enough to upgrade. I require a flip screen, so didn't upgrade to XT5 and won't upgrade to X100VI...though if they change to combo flip/tilt screen on all their cameras, that would end this stupid divide. Currently, am only tempted to upgrade to the DJI Pocket 3...except first I need a new bike. 😉

  • @alnordgren

Thanks for the video. I own the X100V and absolutely love it! For me upgrading to the VI is a no brainer. I've always wanted IBIS, and I do use the built in teleconverter a lot to go to 50mm and 70mm. Now, with the 40.2mp sensor I can get a 50mm image with this teleconverter that's 20mp, for example. Great for large prints. I can easily sell my X100V for $1,000+, so my cost will be $500-$600. I've pre-ordered it on B&H, used the PayBoo credit card they offer, so no sales tax, and free shipping. I thought the X100V would be my last small fixed lens camera, but I'm hoping the new X100VI now is. I can't image Fuji adding anything more that would be a huge game changer to this camera.

I did not upgrade my x100F to the v because it just didn't seem to have enough for my photography. The six looks like a big improvement from the f and therefore I am considering it. Especially as my f while on vacation last week got suntan lotion on it from my wife in the backpack and it the LCD no longer works and it doesn't seem to take electronic images anymore. So the six is getting strong consideration as a replacement.

  • @r.geo.
    @r.geo. 9 месяцев назад +2

Hi Booray! For the record, Fujifilm is calling this new camera the "X100 six". I like all the upgrades however I wonder how the camera will perform with IBIS, improved AF, the larger sensor with the same battery as previous models. IMO, there will be sacrifices in battery life and you can't tell me that some software programming is going to improve or maintain battery life. I think they stretched this thing to the point where it is now slightly larger by necessity. My thoughts are: why would I spend that much on a camera with a fixed focal length, and the same features I have in my X-T5? Yeah, it's slightly smaller but that being the only difference, it ain't worth it. I'd consider purchasing the older V model used when it goes on sale due to people trading up. Hope you enjoy yours.

I have the X100V. I don't need ibis in this type of camera with the 23mm lens. I save my photos on Google and i reduce them to 2.8 MP so more pixels are good only to zoom. The greater maximum electronic shutter speed is good but this camera has neutral density filter. The best auto focus is good but i use the front button to focus. I always wish it has the back screen of the X-Pro3.

Something to consider when upgrading from the V to the VI. All cases do not fit. Many folks have the Arte de mano case. Be aware it will not fit the VI as the tripod hole on the bottom has been moved. With my lizard case costing almost half as much as the camera, this was the deal breaker for me.

I am tempted, but I will wait until one is available to hire. I was never a fan of the Xtrans III and IV sensors, much preferring the image output of the Xtrans II. I keep my X100T (and X-T1 and X-T10) for this reason and am prepared to put up with its clunkiness. Once I can try a VI for myself and see if I like the look of the images I will make a properly informed decision. £1599 is a lot to pay out for something that may not suit. On paper though it does look like a big upgrade especially for me as the 50mm FOV crop which is the mode I am most likely to use, will still be around 19 or 20mp, which is more than plenty,

    • @billwinward9324

It’s all about the quality control that Fujifilm put in place. How many people have issues with iPhones? They’re all made in China. If I were in the market for this camera I wouldn’t pay any attention to where it’s made, Fujifilm could not risk their reputation by having issues with what is their most anticipated camera for years.

    • @richardhale9664

For me it's a case of the ethical rather than quality issues surrounding the move. I can see why Fujifilm did it commercially. I suspect it is to do with declining availability of staff numbers in Japan due to an ageing population and lower production costs due to a suppressed Chinese currency and abominable environmental standards.

If you’re familiar with your camera and are very capable, then the IBIS etc is nice to have, but not really necessary.

I've managed to find one review of the VI comparing the image quality to that of X100V. The difference is barely visible. You can see sliiiiiiightly more detail when you zoom in a lot. Should it be surprising? 40 megapixels vs 26 sound good on paper, but, in the end, the sensors are exactly the same size; so, no miracles there. On the other hand, IBIS looks like a great improvement both for lower shutter speeds as well as video recording.

My only disappointment is that they did not expand the grip and go with the larger battery. While I know that they want to keep that classic viewfinder-body look, one of the biggest complaints about shooting with the x100 series is the ergonomics. So we add a grip...fine, but without the benefit of more battery- something that I would think the addition of IBIS would demand. Style over function, in this case. But I've put my order in- sold the V a while back in anticipation of this new version. Unfortunately, sold all my batteries too.

I’m sure there will be a fair number of upgraders who want the IBIS. I suppose those people will put their 5 on eBay which will help somewhat with the supply shortage. There’s a lot of unfulfilled demand due to supply shortages. My question is whether Fuji can meet demand for the 6?

I have the x100F and found no reason to get the V. I did purchase the XT-5 when it came out which has the same 40 megapixel sensor also IBIS so I basically have no reason to upgrade. The one thing I will say is on the XT-5 since it has the more megapixels I notice more grain in my photos and especially video.

Hey, hope the move went well! According to the Fuji USA channel they're saying "six" and apparently the official way to say the previous model is "five". LOL! This camera isn't on my radar, but sounds pretty cool. BTW, Lee Zavits has a really good hands on preview for portrait photography/videography with the X100VI. Seemed to me that the battery is the only real non-improvement. Of course, some vloggers I know would have liked to see a flippy screen. But, I doubt most who want this camera are upset about that. Hopefully, for interested buyers, there won't be an inventory problem this time. Nice overview!

BTW, the fabric neck strap was so badly crafted. It's impractically short with a poorly designed adjustment system.
Also, when I received the wooden case, the contents had shifted. I was unable to slide the articulated cover more than 20mm. After 6 hours of shaking upside down, i was able to dislodge the offending blockage and slide the cover open. Otherwise, I would have had to break the wooden case open. X100V
    X100F
    X-E3
    X-T4
    X-Pro3...
... and keeping my X-S20 and my beloved X-T30 (mk1!). They're honestly all I need now and the quality, as you well know, is superb. But if an X-T40 comes along I will probably be tempted. I'm now only interested in gear that I use and have GASsed myself out in the past and it's time to be sensible.

Upgrading from x100v probably not an automatic upgrade unless you sensibly sold at a good time anticipating buying now (ahem). I'd say if your total upgrade after selling is less than €200, no brainer. Under €500 could still be worth it if the updates are worth it for you. Above that, I'd wait to be honest. Personally I'm looking at €50 upgrade cost and much prefer the output of the 40MP sensor over the x-trans IV so no question for me, even though x100v prices are falling fast.
First x100... and it will be your main camera, get the latest always. Back up or secondary camera and momey no object - VI. Don't want to spend too much, V or F but wait a couple of weeks for the VI to fully register in the secondary market. Just want to try it out, the S is about as far back as I'd go.

Maybe the question shouldn't be should I upgrade but should I change .... Having been an XT5 user now for about a year and a half since it's launch, I'm not sure I would be buying this camera over an XT5. It feels like it's got the inside of an XT5, but you're restricted with a 35 mm lens and that can be quirky and nice and fun, but just feels like they've taken an XT5 and put it in an X100Vi and I don't think that's necessarily bad.... it's been funny actually because a lot of the Fuji crew that I talk to on the platforms and even on your page have never really warmed to the XT5 they often say oh, it's not that big a deal 40 megapixels. It doesn't lead to sharp images. It's worse in low light, and a whole bunch of lies. It just aren', so now we have the X100 which essentially is a XT5 it really is that the leaf shutter is kinda cool and I think that I think is a benefit and a difference. If you ran a comparison video, and I'm sure someone will there is no way you would buy this camera over an XT5 surely not. But again, I don't think it's a bad upgrade. I think this is a great camera and I'm sure that the camera once it starts being used and people start pumping out great photos we live in an instantaneous world. As soon as people start taking really good photos with the new camera everyone will want to buy and we saw that with the XT5. It initially was not a huge shallow. It didn't go gangbusters. In fact, you've been able to get an XT5 pretty much from launch but probably six months into the journey of that camera. We saw the sales really increase. I think we will see a flood of people buying this camera, and then we will see a flood of people selling it. Very interesting times ahead. And to make everyone laugh I liked what you said at the end. Of course you're going to buy it. I'd be disappointed if you didn't buy it but it's probably not the camera for me but that's okay. I would love one but I'm heavily invested in GFX now as well and I'm loving that as well as keeping my XT5 I've got a foot in each camp. Maybe I'll end up selling the XT5 and getting this camera who knows
