    I've also owned them all recently. After the dust settled I stayed with the lumix s9, nikon zf, and sony zve10ii. They each have their own place for me. Nikon for the lenses. Panasonic for vloggy video. Sony for the small photography edc. So my daily backpack has the panny and the sony in it, both with the kit lenses.(18-40 panny, 16-50 sony). These cameras are so small it's easy to have both on me.

    Fair discussion, what I always find interesting but not a surprise is how subjective camera use is. I’ve heard many folks discuss the same brands and have quite different preferences. Folks who love LUMIX menus, but hate Sony’s as an example. Similar for colors on different brands, love Cañon, dislike Fuji etc You shared your key points well, but left it with folks to decide what works best for them. I’d bet for many will be different,but that’s OK, different needs/preferences warrant a different tool! Nicely done.

      I shoot Fuji now having Ng gone from canon to Nikon to Fuji to L mount to Fuji and the colour science leaves me utterly cold. I don't get it? People are so excited and I think it is the least interesting thing. Give me good solid colours and I'll work out what to do with them.

    • @mikafoxx2717
      @mikafoxx2717 Месяц назад +2

      Fair yeah. I think these days most color science is very similar. Also the old things are less true nowadays. Old Canon used to have amazing color and modern is just fine, Sony was awful green funk and now is fine, Nikon has stayed about the same for the most part. Canon menus got bloated, Sony menus got a bit better. Nikon's autofocus was one of the best and then Nikon was then canon was again, and Canon was the fastest in the film era. Canon has great dynamic range now as good as any Sony and Sony's a1 and A9's might even be worse. Also Panasonic.. exists now. Nikon's Z8 is probably a good compromise of them all but their Z6/Z7 isn't as good as the A7r, a7, or R5, R6.
      I think most cameras are pretty good these days and it would be hard to go wrong with any that has the right style for you. Either vintage style or ergonomic, fast shooter or slower shooter.@@obscurelines

    I enjoyed your video and i agree with what you're saying BUT i think (especially for travel) you left out probably the best brand (i said it again: for travel).
    In my humble opinion anyone looking for a travel camera system must consider Olympus - om system. I ve used Nikon, Canon, Sony in the past.
    For travel photography (especially if you hike snowshoing, Sea kayaking etc) Olympus is the best system because of the size - weight ( especially size and weight of the lenses) and the best weather sealing in the industry. The 12-40 2.8 or the 12-100 mm f4 lenses are the best choises for travel. Also the tiny Panasonic 9 mm 1.7 is a fantastic lens if someone looking for something wider. The week spot of the system is the night photography but it's not terrible. You can work around the small size of the sensor with a good fast prime lens ( like Olympus 17 mm 1.2).

Mostly landscape photography since old people don't like to be photographed. And some videos as well. I narrowed down to Fuji xs20 and Nikon z6 ii but would prefer compact system. @@stanleygabrel1045 thank you!! I would say you couldn’t go wrong with either camera. I’ve owned them both. Mostly shot the z6ii at weddings. It always performed admiringly indoors as did the x-s20. I’d lean towards the z6ii because it’s weather sealed and has two card slots if photo is your main priority. The x-s20 however had much better video specs, a better screen for video, and is much smaller. So for you it would have to come down to what you’ll do more off. If that’s video and not in bad weather the Fuji. If it’s landscapes or a chance of shooting in weather the Nikon. Of course the z6iii would be absolutely perfect for you if that’s in your budget. Cheers.

    I'm only a hobbyist. I'm waiting until 2025 to go mirrorless, now I have Canon and Nikon DSLRs.
    I would go with Nikon, but one of my reasons to go mirrorless is the size, Nikon haven't any camera with the small size of the Fuji XT30 or XE4. I prefer small cameras to travel, to hiking, etc, like the Fuji small bodies. But the difference between Fuji and Nikon in noise and ISO performance is a big con, and the AF Fuji problems some reviews said are notorious. Maybe Sony could be a good middle ground for full frame good ISO performance in smallish body.

      @wesleystreetshots thanks for the reply. One question: do you find the Fuji raw sharp enough? I have had Nikon mirrorless (Z50, Z30) and years ago the Sony A6000, just for trying them. But never Fuji. And some reviewers say that Fuji images are not that sharp. It's not a key thing for me, except maybe in closeups or macro shots, but it would be good to know before trying Fuji

    • @wesleystreetshots
      @wesleystreetshots  Месяц назад +1

      @ it depends on what glass you use. If you’re using one of the 1.4 primes like the 33, 18, or 23 I find them excellent when combined with the 40mp sensor in the X-T5 or X-H2. The 16-80 for example isn’t the sharpest but it’s an older piece of glass. The smaller f2 glass is good but not on par with the f1.4 lenses Fuji recently released.

    I own fairly complete Nikon, Fuji, Olympus and Panasonic systems as well as a Fuji GSW690. Fuji has been the most unreliable with 3 out of 3 bodies needing expensive repairs. Love my Olympus EM1 MkIII and Panasonic G9 and their extraordinary lenses. But the one camera that always delivers is the Nikon D850 with a Tamron 24-70 GII. That is a tough one. They both are 24mp back side illuminated sensors, dual card, slots, . On paper they are too close to call. The Sony is going to have far superior autofocus compared to the Z6ii but if I look at my photos with each, I prefer the colors of the Nikon Z6ii. I've found the AF to be good enough on the Z6ii for me so I would go with it. Most of the wedding photos in the Nikon section were taken with the Z6ii. If you can afford to move up to the Z6iii you would have a very capable AF system with Nikon colors. And Nikon's ergos are my favorite as well. My knuckles hit the lens on the larger lenses on the a7iii which you would often use at a wedding. They would both be great options though. If mostly video the X-H2 or X-S20 and the 23mm f1.4 or even the new kit lens to start. The 16-50. Tell me a little bit about what you plan to shoot?

Another use case is indoor party or events, so low light performance is key. As you can see I’m not a professional paid photographer, just do this for fun and capturing memories quality photos.

    Thank you for this video. It is very helpful for somebody looking to buy into a system. You made some valid points. For me Sony has the best colors and I even prefere the menus old and new. Their cameras are easy to use, reliable, exciting and are brilliant performers. The skin tones from Fuji look on magenta side to me and Canon is too warm (orange). Nikon is ok (on the cold and sterile side) but the newer camera bodies and lenses are too big and heavy for me. I know the perception of colors is subjective. We see them with our brains and how we perceive them is impacted by our experienced, memories and the places where we live. Looking forward to see more of your images no matter which camera you use.

    Buy one brand and stick with it. I got a Canon point and shoot in 2001. I never left, and still shoot with Canon to this day and made a profession out of it. Canon has never let me down and I've never had any desire to switch. Meanwhile ALL my photog friends over the past 20 years have gone from Canon, to Nikon, to Sony, to Fuji, to medium format, back to Canon, etc... their photography never changed even 1 bit aside from minor progressions from experience. Meanwhile they lost THOUSANDS of dollars over the years and I've been happily shooting along without any temptation from other brands. Tried Sony and Fuji, hated the bodies (especially the Fuji felt like a toy, and Sony wasn't much better, especially the back LCDs). Nikons are a step sideways at best from Canon, so no benefit.
    Canon has the best, most rugged bodies with the best ergos and menus. Their EF lenses work 100% like native mirrorless, and the R6 II as an example was the only cam in its price that has full frame oversampled 4k60 for video (S5 II and A7IV only have cropped 4k60) and the photo is way faster. z6III came out 2 years later and still lags behind the R6 II in many areas. Again, at best it's a step sideways.
    Brand really makes no difference.

It’s funny how I feel like Canons bodies feel plasticky even though they aren’t and my x-h2s feels robust but you felt that were toy like. In the end all of these brands will do what most need them to do these days. Comes down to what is good for the user! Thanks for your perspective! I appreciate it.

    I love Panasonic. Tried so much over all the years. Always came back to Panasonic. Will not switch anymore.
    I carry my camera all day long. Barely possible with any other camera brand. Yes, Sony produces compact bodies, but the lenses... If they are small, they are not good. If they are good, they are not small. 🤷‍♀️

      @wesleystreetshots I want to emphasize that what I say is specifically for photography, not for video. Since the release of the Pocket 3, there’s now a fantastic option for high video quality in a truly pocketable form. However, when it comes to pocketable cameras for still photography, I’ve tried numerous 1-inch sensor models, and none of them deliver the image quality I’m looking for, especially in low-light situations. For photos, Micro Four Thirds (MFT) remains the only viable option so far.
      I think GAS is not the badest way how men could spend their money. There are much worse options out there. 🤣

      It's good stuff. If you like cheap older cameras, look for a 6D. It stands out as one of my favorite cameras I've used and the only one I've ever used til death. The weight to grip size is great, and though it has the basic 9 point AF, the sensor is very good and center point very sensitive. Used to have the most wind for astro photos for a long time and the colors from that camera are the perfect encapsulation of what "canon color" used to be. Nowadays Canon color is a bit worse and other brands like sony better, all about on the same page honestly. 5D2 is a worse camera but has richer browns instead of creamy beige like the 6D. Hard to describe but this applies to raws as well, not just jpeg stuff. It's about the color filters on the sensors themselves.

    Great thoughts and thanks for posting. I'm the opposite - I detest Fuji. I slummed along with them for over a decade. Nine different bodies, 12 lenses, cost me a fortune over the years. They kept saying things would improve, but they never did. I was invested too heavily with lenses to change, so I kept hangin in there. Wasn't until over two years ago, I bit the bullet and swapped over to Nikon Z. My customers all commented on the sudden magical quality of my images. My main client who looked like they were leaving me, have become solid and rave about my work now. I can now pull shadows up on images over 1600 ISO and now the thing doesn't look like it was taken on a potato. Sorry, but I was glad to see the end of Fuji.

Me and a couple of my friends had the Sony A7 four and with fast lenses the focus never really never was on the iris was always on the eyelashes or on the nose Tip or whatever and basically everything useless no it’s not the camera. We send it in to Sony and they said it works fine at the end I sold it and came back to Canon, which is not number two, which is way better than Sony, it’s not comparison able at all. @ in my experience and some friends of mine that were also using Sony a74 the hit rate is 0 % because it never nails focus on the iris the camera just cannot do it. The seller in my store tested the camera with me and saw this major flaw. They said the camera just can’t do it any better so you better change the system which I did because I knew that canon is just fantastic. I had the R5 first and after switching I bought the R8 which is also fine. This hype with Sony is just insane probably because people are using zoom lenses and beginning from f 2.2 the problem disappears cause of wider shallow depth of field but wide open the Sony cannot hit the iris that’s just reality. Sony has done a great job of getting all young influencers for video specs.

Canon doesn't allow 3rd party lenses either even on their new lens mount. The ZVE10 doesn't have a viewfinder which I prefer for photography especially. If going new, I would recommend the X-T30ii with the kit lens. Then you can add lenses and grow from there. For a few extra dollars you can get the X-S20 that adds IBIS and a flippy screen for video.
