What always amazed me about Donna Summer was that she sang almost without effort.
dragonfly6908 I hope you had a chance to see her live, because that effortlessness was incredible. She could simply stand there, almost motionless, and reach the rafters with that voice. Truly, she was a gift from heaven.
@@markjoll4825 Unfortunately i never got the chance to see her live but for the people who did it must have been an amazing experience. ❤️💚❤️
@@markjoll4825 She always says that when she was 9 years old she prayed to God and says please teach me to sing and then one day she woke up in the morning and she could sing. She tells this story many times. So I believe her.
@@lumiere7216 wow this is so amazing!!💚
blessed by God and healthy teachnique.
I did not know she sang this song. She sings it better than Yolanda Adams to me. I can tell Donna connected to the song. She just stands there and sing with such conviction.
Yes - just letting it flow through her in a very natural manner as she did with everything. Yolanda is a powerful singer with a beautiful voice, but as with Patti Labelle, she can't seem to control the 'over-kill' and winds up taking an anointed song and drilling it to death with grunts, strains and groans 'til you want to hand them a jar of prune juice!
Listen to her introduction in which she talks about the loss of her mother & how she had told Donna : You always have a friend in Jesus.
I agree!
And that's saying a lot. Yolanda Adams is a vocal beast and a legend. But Donna on this song is just magical.
One of the best singers of all time. She sang in what she believed in.
Greatest ever, a personal opinion but cant think of many with better tone and clarity, superb range just about everything a singer should be but many fall short of her talent.....
@@mmmggg2874 Whitney Houston was so less than her up to you? Aretha Franklin? She was a very good singer and she should have sung the black music not the disco one!
@@massimosigismondi699 It's easy to answer you... If you listen Donna, Whitney and Aretha.. you'll see Donna can easily emulate Whitney and Aretha ranks.. even Adele and Tina Turner's rougnes.. but none of them could easily achieve Donna's changes.... in my opinion. Donna is # 1..
@@massimosigismondi699 Donna had more range of vocal ability than Whitney and Aretha because Donna could disguise her voice and sound like anybody. She could even sound like Rod Stewart. So she had a wider range from very high notes to very low notes but Whitney or Aretha only had just the one style of singing that you could always recognize. James Ingram proclaimed Donna's voice to be the best he has ever heard.
I agree!
I really miss The Diva cuz she always put on a show wit no hype 13 costume changes or choreography just old school Diva standing on the stage belting a song out n making u feel the song deep within
Just for this song, she should have received a Grammy.......
for Best Traditional Performance
Since she didn't include the song on the album it didn't qualify 4 a Grammy nomination but I agree wit u
@@JLPerryTV Since it was a new song, not a traditional Gospel song, it would have had to be best inspirational, for which she was nominated 3 or 4 times, and won twice in 84 & 85. He's a Rebel & Forgive Me.
Lianne Green I didn’t say it was a gospel song
@@JLPerryTV It is a Gospel song, and at this time is a new Gospel song, written in 1991, so it wouldn't qualify as a Traditional song or arrangement, as per Grammy rules.
Peter Webb from Sydney, Donna Summer what an absolute legend, in the top
three of all female singing artists, such a great range and such a pure
clear voice, also very versatile in being able to sing anything from
disco to balads etc. Donna is a TRUE LEGEND
Donna Summer was blessed with a superb ability to sing just as she brilliantly proves here and on so many other occasions. She will always be missed by her Fans and her loved ones of course 🎶🎙️💃🏽🌟🕊️
Brings me to tears. EVERY TIME!!!
Saw this about 5 months ago. Things were rough then and this song hit home. HARD. Today I see it again and things are actually good these days. The storm has passed. Thank You Jesus! But it still brought me to tears. Because the words of the song were true! I did find safety in my Master’s arms… while I was riding through the storm.
Thank you Donna for singing this. Rest In Peace and May His Eternal Light shine upon you, always. 🙏🏽
Me too truly love this beautiful lady and her music!!
Me too!! And I’m Jewish 😳🙆🏻😬
Effortless singing with conviction and passion, one of the greatest female vocalist ever !
This was simply EPIC. Sincere. Humble. The constrained power of her voice.... Beautiful. ☺!!!
So sad she is gone,❤️
Coming up to the 10th anniversary of this amazing person on 17th May, forever grateful for this music from the best of the best
This is apart of Ms. Donna Summer's epic return to the mainstage on VH1 encore in 1999.
That is true. Never heard from her again after Another Time and Place until vh1 era
@@bigolebot Get a hobby. You’re always commenting negative things on Donna related videos.
@@alovetrilogy please point out a negative thing I said about Donna Summer just now ?
@@bigolebot You know exactly what your intent was. Don’t try and act like this isn’t the first time you’ve tried to diss Donna by calling her a fad or flop. You’re literally under EVERY Donna video I come across having something to say about her legacy.
Of course now all the folks who didn't know that beautiful voice NOW YOU DO!!!!
Donna Summer is the best singer all times.❤
Absolutely Agree!!! James Ingram proclaimed this after he sang the duet with her on 'Mystery Of Love' (Album Entitled Donna Summer produced by Quincy Jones) . He said Donna has the widest vocal range he has ever heard and can cover anything from the highest notes to the lowest notes.
Si....e' vero...
Song brings tears too my eyes just a Beautiful song from this Beautiful lady God bless her with love forever and ever!!
I wanted to see Donna Summer's concert even once in my lifetime.
Wow She’s alive God Saved All the Music !We Rise As Christian. this is The Best !
Powerful!!
Jesus 💕
I didn't know Donna Summer knew this song. Y'all may not know this but this song is originally by gospel legend Yolanda Adams. RIP Donna S.
...me either 😮🤎but when she gave her life back to God, I guess gospel was on heavy rotation in the house. She covered beautifully and masterfully, graciously as only Donna could do RIH LaDonna 🤍🕊🥀
By far, one of the GREATEST! Have always been mesmerized by her abundant gifts. Glory be to +God+ fornher life. She is always in my prayers.
Forever with us...
One of pop’s all time greats, has always been Summer.
Since the late 70's when i used to DJ at one of the two Bombay discotheques, Donna Summer has remained the eternal queen of Disco and made the world dance at her feet with her stunning voice and hit after hit dance tunes. Even today she remains the QUEEN OF DISCO and there is no doubt about this. Darcy Dinshaw-Bombay still enjoying her dance songs now on You tube
This women could sing no bad note.🙏🏿👍🏿❤️
Love and miss you Donna Summer aka LaDonna Adrian Gaines.
In Heaven since 2012
chills...superb...love LOVE LOVE
She could sing it all. Rock, Pop, Soul, Gospel and On And On. That voice was anointed. So much more than just Disco which was a great genre in and of itself. Wish she got the credit she deserves for being one of the greatest female vocalists ever.
She touches my very being with this song. ❤
Ora e'leggenda....
Scriviamo chi era sulla roccia...
Believe it or not, Donna was hugely recognized within the Music industry as a Pioneer through whose music Modern Music was established. From within her came Whitney, Beyoncé, Madonna, Rihanna, Gaga and many more!! She was a close friend of Chaka Khan ,Diana Ross, Elton and many more. James Ingram proclaimed that Donna's voice has the widest range he has ever heard as she can sing the highest notes as well as very low notes and the disguise is second to none in the industry. She has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of fame ahead of Tina Turner & Janet Jackson, Hollywood Walk of Fame STAR etc
Thanks to RUclips and other media platforms, a new generation has been introduced to this amazing artist. The young folks like her very much. I am glad I fell in love with Ms. Donna's artistry while a kid in the seventies and continue to love her music!

Looking back you can see Whitney Houston getting a lot of influence from Donna
david metherell Whitney never said she was influenced by Donna .... she always said who she was influenced by
Definitely similarities. Especially this performance.

I am an atheist and normally can't stand gospel music because it is preachy and weird, but this is brilliant!
