Donna summer's powerful and distinct resonance is not being praised enough. That resonance in her voice really shows how perfect her belting technique was that is why even up to her 60's and 70's she can still belt so high without any sound of "Strain". That is one proper care for a voice. She belts so perfectly everything is placed perfectly.
An absolute legend her voice gave me so much pleasure especially my feet Nobody can ever match her voice no matter who ever she sung with top quality from the lady of soul Donna I would never have had enough let’s not forget your backing vocals they are top notch Sadly missed
Donna at this point of her career is already a legend. She has achieved great recognition and has proven to the world how talented and incredible she is, thats why it was so natural for her to show to Tina Arena who is famous in Australia, Asia and Europe, and maybe to other female singers she sings with to show them that she is already established and experienced and so demonstrating some command over them. I think she is surprised that Tina has that voice singing along with her, she did not expect that so to not to feel awkward, she showed seniority and superiority. Well, evrbody agrees that Tina is a powerhouse too and Donna has that pure distinct voice that is perfect for the song. In the original version, according to talks, Barbra had to show off her voice so that she would emerge over Donna thats why recording Barbra's part took a lot of takes to come in to perfection while Donna just sang her heart out.
Fascinating! It's great to see an artist at work preparing for an important performance. I can see Donna's drive for excellence and her attention to the details here. Totally involved yet not overbearing. Fun to watch. :)
This was brilliant. It showed a total professional & brilliant voice (Donna) with another professional and brillaint voice Tina. What many don't realise is that Tina was around on Australian TV in the 80's. I grew up with her.
Wow - fantastic! In reading many of the comments here, it's not about who sang it better - Barbra or Tina. How anyone could think that, is beyond me. How wonderful that this iconic song is being performed by these 2 ladies!
@@fourocker totally agree, Donna wouldn’t be singing with her at final rehearsal before a concert if Tina couldn’t sing - probably just organising, as they do during rehearsals, just tidying up loose ends
@@fourockerDonna is one of the best voices to grace this earth lol considering Tina is singing HER song I think Donna is just giving her tips on the pacing as she told her to sing it a bit faster
I had no idea Tina actually met, sang and performed with Donna. What a thrill for tina, who had performed donnas songs publicly since she was a child. What I wonder is if they sang McArthur park together when they met?
If I’m not mistaken, this was a VH1 special featuring Donna Summer. Tina was a guest to sing this song with her. Unfortunately, the official video on the live performance is nowhere to be found on youtube. This is an absolute gem. If someone on here has a copy of the live performance, please post it on RUclips! 😀😀
I've seen the actual footage of them both singing during the live performance several times. Years before i stumbled across this. It is out there, you just need to know where to look .
Since the late 70's when i used to DJ at one of the two Bombay discotheques, Donna Summer has remained the eternal QUEEN OF DISCO and made the world dance at her feet with her stunning voice and hit after hit dance tunes. it looks to me like 2 artists working out how to get the best out of the song to me, i see Tina looking to Donna out of respect and Donna kind of keeping focus across the whole musical room as you would expect being her song. Both professional respectful women and what a treat to see a rehearsal. 30 years ago I saw a younger Tina sing acapella to a full house at Melbourne Town Hall as part of a fashion gig and no one left unchanged by her voice that night ...she has something in her .....and of course they blew it out of the water later on at the show
Thanks JC For sharing this vid two of my favorite singers - got dvd of this concert and when Tina Arena gets up it looks very impromptu - but here its a pre choreographed - still great though - once again thanks -SB
What a shame that such a great singer and nice person in Donna had to die as young. Years ago I was amazed that Donna had held a note for 14 seconds, until I heard this Australian singer Vanessa Amorosi hold a note for 25 seconds on "Sun's Up" and 26.9 seconds on "Heroes live forever"
Tina Arena had better control at this. It doesn't mean that when you are the original singer, you automatically have the green card and is the best. Tina Arena knew what she was in this song and she has shown right there at the final performance. Tina hit the right and high notes and Donna was the accessory in the final performance. Periodt! (You can see in this rehearsal that Donna was aloof and like conserving her voice when Tina was raw and all out singing). I like Donna but she appeared arrogant in this rehearsal. Tina knew what she was doing. She is a superstar in her own right and her voice is a KILLER!
Donna maravillosa por siempre, una gran voz ya se fue, el dia que fallecio para mi fue un dia triste, soy ropckero, metalero pero en la secundaria siempre la segui, fui su fans, un abrazo hasta donde estes.
Both amazing vocalists , how nervous must Tina had been to sing with a legend like Donna and such and iconic song but she’s a true professional and both did a faultless performance
Donna's raw vocal talent is a rarity, but to also be capable of lifting the spirits of an entire room full of people like a sonic shaman, is a much rarer combination. Add to that, the fact that Donna kept both of those gifts her entire life; Most with that gift are either worked like dogs until the fire is gone, or become crushed by the industry's effects on those who mean the most to them which cause the songs to be attached outside the "Nowness" required for that unity of raw talent and soul mover. Liz Fraser of Cocteau Twins, Tori Amos, PJ Harvey, ect. had the same thing, giving live shows that were true non-dogmatic religious experiences, but succumbed to the physical and emotional toll of the industry. Patti Smith still brings it, Bjork (despite making virtually the same album over and over the last 8 years) has it live, Annie Lennox, Fiona Apple (gets more intense each year), Nina Simone (although deeply unhappy, RIP) gave 200% until the end, Chris Cornell of Soundgarden (RIP), Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, Mahalia Jackson, Marianne Faithfull (embraced her aging voice and released a #1 song in her late 50s with a voice like a chainsaw - Ballad of Lucy Jordan), Grace Jones, David Bowie, Trent Reznor, The Knife, Duchess Says, and maybe a handful of others. Their voices may not be at their peak, but they can still officiate and direct the energy of many hundreds of people - and that really takes some kind of psychological jujitsu, because you can imagine singing a song for 40 years and having to fill it with the soul that it began with. I wish I could develop that ability, as the sameness and stresses of my daily life has put out my fire, so it's great to see videos like this, showing examples of those who thrived often times, in chaos.
No More Tears" (Enough Is Enough).
