Donna Summer was the very first person to combine Kraftwerk and Soul. She created Disco. Imagine German lab engineers on stage in a Baptist church. Yes, she did that!
Ok, some reality check. This song is 95% Giorgio Moroders invention and creativity, he could have used any female singer. Just like abba is 90% Benny Andersson.
@@funkjazz6625 That's a fair opinion. I would argue though, that 1000s of other singers could have replaced them (especially if you consider the vocal part of this particular song). Harmonically tho, Annifrid and Agneta was a really good vocal combination.
@@micke_mango Thank you. Over the years there was countless of number of attempts to do a new version of "I feel love" and none of them came close to Donna. This was a song (alongside with Amanda Lear "Blood and Honey") which had such a massive effect on me so as I started buying records. I was 18y/o at the time. Funny that is as my favourite type of music is really funk and soul but even now I still listen to disco alongside with many other genres of music.
@@funkjazz6625 "none of them came close to Giorgio" I would say 😀 This song is almost entirely about the bassline and the intense rhythm part, that's what's groundbreaking with Moroders piece. Interestingly, the vocal part of this song is quite detached from the instruments, with its own rhythm (a lot slower), it's almost as if two separate songs were blended. I don't have a clue on how to make an interesting cover on a song like this... Maybe a complete genre change, to detach from the original? Fast country or metal? Or changing the vocal part completely, new melody and maybe more eighth notes?

Iconic song, faultlessly performed by an iconic singer. Of its time, yet timeless in a way. A bit of musical pioneering. Donna was stunning to look at too.
One of the very best female singers ever, yet she rarely appears on most of those “ best of” lists. On the strength of this flawless performance, she should.
I remember driving down to the snow when this song came on the radio- I wouldn’t say I was a Donna fan but it blew me away, it’s the first time I’d ever heard synths brought into the rhythm section - brilliant!
I dismissed this years ago as ‘just disco’. What a fool I was…Listening again for the first time properly I realise for the first time what a fabulous voice she had.!
For the longest time, I thought this song came out in the early 2000s. Mainly because there were so many songs that came out of that had that electronic, pop vibe to it. Kinda like Goldfrapp. I was shocked that it actually came out in 1977, and it was a Donna Summers song. Wow! The song is so a head of its time. In the late 70s and early 80s, I wonder if people were confused by their futuristic sound. Cheers to forever the Queen of Disco!

I Feel Love is a single by American singer-songwriter Donna Summer, taken from the album I Remember Yesterday, and released in 1977. Destined to top the charts in many countries, the song is cited as one of the most influential ever in the development of much electronic dance music. It is also number one on Billboard's Best Disco Songs of All Time list compiled in 2016 by Giorgio Moroder. Although popular electronic music was now widespread, before I Feel Love most disco music was accompanied by an acoustic orchestra. The production of Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, who created the song accompanying it entirely with a Moog synthesizer, was soon imitated by other musicians. The song is thus one of the pioneering hits of electronic music. Unlike many disco songs of the time, I Feel Love was first made by composing the background and the bass line and then the melody, whose key was modulated at regular intervals together with Donna Summer's voice. The piece is accompanied by a four quarter beat and progressive bass lines.

My god her voice was amazing. Beautiful woman and no one can ever top her.
A lot of singers would have made this raunchy whether they meant to or not. Donna's voice was so sweet but had power behind it and made this spiritual
Madonna's rendition to her in her confession tour was on key point
A natural beauty added to a natural talent
I can't stay still listening to this song! I know people have said that this song was way ahead of it's time... And it is. There was nothing like it at the time it was released and there isn't anything like it now! It's trancendant, magical, and it will make you sweat your ass off!

This is more than a song. This is a whole vibe! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Electronic music and EDM were born here!
Because the music was composed by Giorgio Moroder who pioneered the use of the synthesizer early on…
@@timpren yes. I do like what the chicago and detroit boys did with it a few yrs later.
@@micke_mango This song without Donna Summer would not be as good as much as ABBA without Agnetha Faltskog would not be as good.
@@funkjazz6625
That's a fair opinion.
@@funkjazz6625
"none of them came close to Giorgio" I would say 😀
This song is almost entirely about the bassline and the intense rhythm part, that's what's groundbreaking with Moroders piece.

As much as disco came to be blamed for everything.. still 100x better musically and creatively than the overprocessed autotune junk we hear today.
The problem was not the music. The problem is that our civilization blamed everything else except his fundamental errors.
Much, much indeed than what's out today by a long, long shot. Those who disliked it back then I'm sure many of them now appreciate it more and more than ever.

Iconic song, faultlessly performed by an iconic singer. Of its time, yet timeless in a way. A bit of musical pioneering.
Donna was stunning to look at too.
Donna was so hypnotizing. It's like she had fallen from the skies; she was not from this world.
One of the very best female singers ever, yet she rarely appears on most of those “ best of” lists. On the strength of this flawless performance, she should.
I've just watched her doc:" Love to Live You" and you're definitely right. Her voice live.............wow just wow.

Cheers to forever the Queen of Disco!
you can thank Giorgio Moroder for that
that man was living 50 years in the future as much as i adore Donna Summer i really do
she probably never have become that worldwide superstar without moroder read up on him dude is legit
his synths the signature throbbing sound he was pretty much father of disco , grandfather of electro / techno
Ahh some love for Goldfrapp!

Donna Summer was the Queen of Disco and the most remarkable singer of her time. Nobody has ever come even close.
