There was a blue light in the ceiling with fishnets, a pound of weed on the table with George Clinton and Van McCoy’s music blasting through the stereo! RIP VAN MCCOY! YOU ACCOMPLISHED A LOT IN YOUR SHORT LIFE MAN!
The greatest decade of music EVER! I was 18 in 1970 and caught the entire disco scene. And so so many hits came out the year I got married, 1977. Real music, no autotune, no gymnastics, no processing....just great music!!
I was 11 that year. I love the '70s music. I recently set up a 1979 playlist, and it's great music --- GREAT music --- but you can sense that it's changing that year, suggesting things would be different in the '80s.
I grew up in the eighties being told that disco sucks, now I've fortunately gotten rid of a lot of my prejudices (not all, country sucks:) but I really like a lot of disco music.
I wish I understood back then how special this music was. Like pretty much everything from the birth of the American jazz era to the late 1990's, I never thought musicianship would become a thing of the past.
It really hasn't. The way to find out about music has just changed now from the days when you'd rely on Soul Train or the radio or a knowledgeable record store employee. Also let's be real, most pop sucked then too, we just remember the funky, inventive, good stuff.
@@aemuth8235 yes it has. If you listen to any of the ‘artists’ around today and what is put in the public eye and becomes majorly popular across the world.

I first heard this composition coming out if a record store when walking the beat as a young cop in October 1975. Every time I hear it, I’m instantly flooded with wistful memories in a time I was naively hopeful with a view of the future.
Your comment is going to garner lots of likes, because it's dead on. I was 9 when this came out, and I remember it from the radio, but I also remember it being played at a wedding, and all the women, of all ages, got up and danced in formation the same dance steps. Lots of disco seems to be performed in the high registers, and with the soaring violins and horns, it has a hopeful spiritual quality to it. It really must have been a hopeful time, since all people wanted to do was dance. Look at music today. Blah.
This was my best friend"s favourite song. Despite being a kleptomaniac (he used to steal wallets at store), he was the kind of guy who always had your back. Even after years without seeing because he moved to Hawaii, everytime I hear it I think about him.

The version of the dance presented here is more complex than the simpler moves used at parties and clubs in the 70s. However, you can catch glimpses of the shorter finger-in-the-air moves in the video.
Gotta wonder, as they worked on this in the studio, if there was even an inkling that in 50 years (it was released in 75) later we would still be blasting this as a great song.

I wish I could go back to the 70s. I love that decade. It had the best music and movies. I don't care what anyone says about disco. It's good, uplifting music.
Plus, TV shows, as well.📺😀👌
60s were pretty good fer music too
I agree...love my 70's albums...in my happy place always 🤣
A happy simple time
I'm with you as far as this, KC, Andrea True, and Heatwave are concerned.
1978, I attended pre-school at 6 years old. Heard this on the school bus every morning. That era was followed by the wonderful 80’s. Man, this song really brings back the memories of my childhood.
What a melody !... less is more without any doubt, just listening and enjoying it ...a jewel, a really treasure don’t you think ? ...👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌👍 🤜🤛
When i listen to this song it feels like it's traveling up my muscles
Holy shit, daddy Donny profile picture
Yeah, it makes me feel like a shining diamond, like i wanna steal one from a rich japanese guy.
It feels like accusing a guy who has a Japanese name and Hawaiian surname, with being a traitor

He won’t be missed, as us JOJO fans will keep this song alive
The. Hustle-reminds of 1970’s. For sure . A very distinctive piece , sound era ! The dance, clothes , hair styles , all the 70’s the orchestra is dynamite . Thank Van McCoy !! ✨✨✨✨
This was about as cool as it got in the 70s.

I miss those days with tears in my eyes. It's been fifty years and I'm 18 again when I hear it. Times were more wholesome, peaceful and fun. The 1970s were magical.
Hallelujah brother or sister. So true, so true.
Love this song despite the limited lyrics. It's often played on the radio. Perfect to listen to while driving along the countryside.
i agree! ♫♪ Do the Hustle, build & tone your muscles & dance your troubles away & never save them for a rainy day! ♫♪ Whistle Whistle Beep Beep, Toot Toot! LOL!
I fell in love with this song at age 11, 1976. On the way to swimming lessons in my friend's mom's microbus. It was green, just like Shaggy's.😅
Here before we know if Paco is the hotdog man or stressed trucker. Not sure which I'm more hyped for- but I stan regardless.

Happy times, not a care in the world, wonderful childhood. Probably the best decade of my life and i'm now 57.
I'm 57 as well. Heard this also on the radio at 10. What a great time we had in 1975. Best dance song of the 20th Century. This song makes us still feel young although were in our 50s.

THIS SONG HAD A HAUNTING EFFECT ON THE MIND! It was that get high and free yourself of all the chaos type music! I remember after dark my dad would take me to friends’ houses. There was a blue light in the ceiling with fishnets, a pound of weed on the table with George Clinton and Van McCoy’s music blasting through the stereo! RIP VAN MCCOY! YOU ACCOMPLISHED A LOT IN YOUR SHORT LIFE MAN!
In the 70’s people actually habitually danced & enjoyed themselves.
without mass-shootings at clubs

So true! Love this song.

Perfect Time
Born in 70s, here. I do Love hearing this again!
I miss those days!
Were great times! ❤
The greatest decade of music EVER! I was 18 in 1970 and caught the entire disco scene. And so so many hits came out the year I got married, 1977. Real music, no autotune, no gymnastics, no processing....just great music!!
I was 11 that year. I love the '70s music. I recently set up a 1979 playlist, and it's great music --- GREAT music --- but you can sense that it's changing that year, suggesting things would be different in the '80s.
and the Drugs were REAL Good !
I grew up in the eighties being told that disco sucks, now I've fortunately gotten rid of a lot of my prejudices (not all, country sucks:) but I really like a lot of disco music.
@@mikearchibald744 Contemporary Country sucks, but not classic country and its classic sub-genres.
@@issues9828 Agreed.
I wish I understood back then how special this music was. Like pretty much everything from the birth of the American jazz era to the late 1990's, I never thought musicianship would become a thing of the past.
It hasn’t.
God it frightens me now how good the 70's was . Brilliant music everyone got on and had a brilliant time. Nearly 62now scared of going x
It really hasn't. The way to find out about music has just changed now from the days when you'd rely on Soul Train or the radio or a knowledgeable record store employee.
Also let's be real, most pop sucked then too, we just remember the funky, inventive, good stuff.
Right?!

You arent funny. Stop.
Blah.
That Is an amazing memory! It wasn’t amazing time to be Alive .
@@issues9828 all we wanted to do was dance & f**k. If u know i'm right: raise your hand. We outfitted vans just for this reason

The version of the dance presented here is more complex than the simpler moves used at parties and clubs in the 70s. However, you can catch glimpses of the shorter finger-in-the-air moves in the video.
