I'm in North Alabama - I have an appointment to perform the recall inspection in two weeks. They claim to have the part in stock if it's needed. The service manager told me they had just done the recall inspection on a 2020 model, and replacement wasn't needed for it. I predict my 2021 won't need to be changed, either. I'll report back with the results. Did you ever get yours resolved?

Update - I took mine in for the recall inspection this morning - they said it passed, no need to replace the fuel pump. It took them 30 minutes and I was ready to go. Again, mine is a 2021 model. So for me, this was all about as painless as you can ask for! I definitely will be interested to find out about others' experiences with this issue.

I did get the recall notice. Inspection passed without the need for the fuel pump. However, dealership here in Tennessee said they did not have any parts if the pump needed changing.

Not about my GoldWing, but a truck I own. Had a recall and called the dealer only to find out that the manufacturer had not yet even designed the physical replacement part. Thankfully it did not affect registration renewal. A failure of the current part could have caused thousands in damage.

I took my Honda Goldwing 2024 to the dealer on May 15 or 14 and they told me that I didn’t have to change my fuel pump on my bike so they kept it for the oil change 600 mile oil change and I picked it on a Tuesday, but the bike was ready at Friday and Saturday, but I picked up on Tuesday so I don’t know what’s going on with this fuel pump thing. I’m glad I didn’t need it.

    I brought my bike in
    it's a 2022
I was lucky that my fuel pump was not involved in the recall
    however
they are making the parts and I hope they will replace the ones in the oldest bikes with the most miles on the odometer first
the fuel pumps will last a long time even without replacement
think back two years ago... It would've taken a year to get a replacement part then
    be patient it will happen

I have a 2018 Goldwing, I live in Phoenix Az, my fuel pump went out 3 months ago and I cannot get my bike fixed because Honda has not released the new replacement fuel pumps. The dealer will not let me bring it in, I called Honda's national customer service and they said that fuel pumps may not be available until July. The part that I am really upset about is Honda has fuel pumps to manufacture new 2024 Goldwings for their potential new customers, but they do not have fuel pumps for their current, loyal customers. The fuel pumps they are putting into the new Goldwings at the factory are the same fuel pumps that will replace the one in the 2018 to 2020 Goldwings. The message I am receiving from Honda is "Screw you existing customer, to bad, you will have to wait while we build new Goldwings for our potential new customers"

This is exactly the point we were discussing personally.
So sorry it’s happening to you and to many in our community-
Reminds us of cable companies for example:
New customer get all the discounts and incentives, while existing loyal customers get price increases!
      We get frustrated 😣!!!
While we we understand the theory here with supply/demand/3rd party manufacturers etc, in practice we feel Honda will lose many loyal customers to other brands.
We empathize with you and feel your frustration…
Thank you for sharing your story…fingers crossed 🤞

I checked mine myself after the dealership called me about the recall. Basically, you take the seat off and look at the silver sticker on the fuel pump. If the model/series contains, "A02", you're fine. Only "A01" needs replacement. I called them back and they wrote up an inspection work order with the mileage, date, and fuel pump series information and I was done.

Yes parts are in catch-up mode. However to know if your year of bike may have been affected, check Cruiseman’s video where he lists the fuel cell codes by the years. (18- present). My 22 did not need a replacement part. Just an inspection. Hope this helps. Apparently “fuel cell” supply issue from Honda’s vendor is to blame. Yes it appears a state won’t issue road worthiness until a “recall issue” has been cleared from the documented vehicle. Rare it is for a Honda. Even an engineering juggernaught isn’t perfect. It’s beholden to it’s parts food chain. 😭Best to ya’ll.

Totally understand team! Honda being a Powersports company has numerous products possibly using “fuel cells” nationwide & worldwide. The volume of Wings produced worldwide alone since 18+. Ouy vey! I just did a quick check on “recalls” for Indian. Alas. Also Fuel cell/pump. BMW & Harley also have recall fires in those camps as well. Not fuel cell/pump. Keep us posted team. Better than one wasting their time going to the dealership, only to be told the parts are not available. It takes time to manufacture upgraded parts and verify they work, this would be from a third party like Denso, as Honda outsource electrical components.

Got my recall letter. Called dealership said they had no parts. BUT they did let me come in for inspection. Seems they can look at the top of fuel pump and check the Number stamped on it then input it to there computer and check to see if that pump is o the list. Mine was not so I am good to go. Oh yeah, Ca. sucks on so many levels...

did they really say "don't bring your bike in"? as my dealer explained to me, the first step in the process is to bring your bike in for inspection which is a 10 minute job. if the date code on the pump is ok, you're done. if not, dealer will notify honda and get a new pump shipped and assigned to your bike. they want to keep track of which specific pump is in each specific bike. as others have said, you can do the inspection yourself but it's only for your peace of mind. you still have to have a tech see it. from your color scheme i'm guessing yours is a 2023. most likely your pump ok. rejects are 2018 and early 2019 but anyone can have an older pump

    • @MiddleAgeRoadRage
      @MiddleAgeRoadRage  7 месяцев назад +1

Yes- that’s what they actually told us-
Yes, our dealer specifically said not to bring the bike in, as Honda said they can’t even open a ticket right now as there is no part available-
That’s what he said Honda told them-
Perhaps this is lemon law padding protection as in some states a vehicle can only sit in the shop X number of days without being a “lemon”-
Then manufacturers are stuck with a huge buyback situation?
We really thank you for your time, your comment and watching the video.

My dealership ran my VIN and told me my fuel pump does need replacing and I just got a 2nd letter from Honda confirming that and what to do next. No need to take the bike in, just confirm the VIN. Still haven't heard when the fuel pump will be in stock.

WTF, I am so glad I am no longer living in California. Lived there from 1970 to 1991 and I loved what a beautiful state it was back then. Yep, I called Honda and I knew what they were going to say. I did get my name on the list for when parts are available. Am I going to stop riding my bike. Nope This is why I got the extended warranty with roadside assistance. I did however go on a short trip this past week and experienced a sound when turning on the bike. It was a loud sound of a pump running all the time. Start the bike, it ran OK. Shut the bike off then power it back up and still had a loud pump running sound. Said the hell with it and rode it like I stole it. If it breaks down, they can come and get it. Guess what? After a day riding in the hills of Kentucky it no longer makes the loud pump running sound when I turn it on, and it is running fine. If you no longer like where you live, MOVE. Ride safe and enjoy life.

Did the dealer recognize you from your videos? I am not picking on you, but the person that told you not to bring in your bike for the recall, is likely breaking the law. You may choose another dealer. I know that there are more than one California dealer. As far as the dmv not issuing current registration….. I don’t know how they going to find out anyway? I would send your plight up the chain. Start with district, then state representatives of Honda Powersports, and use the best friend voice. I dealt with corporate in the late 1970’s they get things done!

And yes we can explore other shops if they’re not too far-

      And we called them-
      No “recognition” there…

Well thank goodness I don’t live in Cali because this would classify as a lemon under the lemon law

    • @MiddleAgeRoadRage
      @MiddleAgeRoadRage  7 месяцев назад +1

You may be quite right about that!
As lemon law in California states, a vehicle qualifies as a lemon if it has spent “more than 30 cumulative days in the repair shop.” However, this can be tricky. For instance, if the manufacturer can prove that there were complications out of their control that led to a delay, the manufacturer may get the benefit of the doubt in court.

Communist California gotta love it. An inspection of the serial/part number should suffice to know what you need to do. If it does fall into the criteria for replacement that puts you in a bad spot for sure. Honda will catch up they always do.

@@MiddleAgeRoadRage I only follow the new wings, I’m a proud owner of an 86, 92 and a 13. But do all my own work. So I can’t truly contribute. Being in the transportation industry by trade, I can vouch for the crappy parts availability especially when there is a known problem. If you don’t require a new pump, I would hope California would recognize a dealers decision and find that acceptable, but who’s checking? I guess they’d pull your VIN. I couldn’t live in California.
