The reason why Sanders made more was because Smith had the best offensive line in football, which cost $. Dallas could have repeated if they had simply traded Smith for the 3rd to 5th best RB in the league and a second player, a draft pick or money. It would have been bliss if they could have arranged such a trade with a lower tier team with no chance of reaching the playoffs, much less the SB.

The Buffalo Bills vs. New England Patriots from the late 80's & early 90's timeframe was another one that comes to mind. I remember that those games were always close and exciting as well despite their respective regular season records.

Well he got his new contract and he came back for this game. Didn’t play alot in this game but his return sparked the Cowboys on their 2nd straight run towards a Super Bowl title.
He missed the first two games of the season, and only got 45 yards in this game, and still led the league in rushing with 1486 yards. That's amazing that he averaged over 106 yards a game that season and he proved he was worth every penny he got.
