I Think 🤔 That Jim Plunkett Was In The SuperBowl This Year! ( 1983-1984 ) For SuperBowl 18 In January 22, 1984 Against The Defending SuperBowl Championship 🏆 Washington Redskins.🏟️🏈🏆
These two played a previous game on MNF in December, 1974 and quite a game it was. The 1983 season would be the last Super Bowl year for the Raiders until 2002 (they were eliminated early in 1984 and '85). This was an excellent high scoring shootout and nice to see it again. Greg Pruitt by this time an elder statesman of the game still showed his 1970s magic thru the year with some excellent kick returns. Final season for Cowboy receiver Drew Pearson before his retirement.
How this never materialized as a Super Bowl match-up is amazing. From 1967 thru 1980, six times the Raiders & Cowboys found themselves on opposite sides of the playoff bracket in their respective Conference Championship Games, and not once did they both win.
Yes, football is the ultimate team game, especially given the fact that in this particular game, several Hall of Famers are on display for both teams. But look at the difference between the two starting QB's. Jim Plunkett won two super bowls with the Raiders, while Danny White, even though he was a very good QB, unfortunately had the stigma of not being able to take Dallas to the Super Bowl. Remember, Danny went 0 and 3 in three straight NFC Championship Games from 1980 through 1982. But Danny is a college football Hall Of Famer. Arizona State Sun Devils, you make Tempe proud, Danny !
At least he won a ring in SB XIII as a punter and Staubach's backup. Unfortunately for White the Cowboys were just not quite good enough in those three years, they were probably the second or third best team in the league each time.
@@eulissbeniot9024 Last dominant team Dallas had until 1992 was the 1981 team. West coasts offenses began to emerge as well Flex defense could do nothing against that type of offense. And of course NyG, Was, Bears were simply more physical and talented. Its just my opinion thu.
@@jeremiahrose4681 I can't stop watching these old games. I've got a great old game for you. 1983 week 16 Giants at Washington. This game has it all. I was thinking at first this was a mistake because there was no SNF in 1983 but it looks like it a special edition of Monday Night Football. Good to see OJ. Lol
Cowboys version of the 46 defense was called the Four O defense after Bill Bates, just like the 46 defense got its name from the uniform # of Bears safety Doug Plank
Blientikoff of the Raiders wore #25 & Ahmad Rashad wore #28 with the Vikings. They were all Wingbacks that's why. Harold Carmichael the WR of the Eagles wore #17. Don't know how that was allowed
Satellite feeds are incredible! I have never heard a MNF before. Is this OJs first game? It has got to be. Him and Namath were really bad. I remember this game like yesterday . It was the week after the Green Bay Washington epic game. This was a Sunday Night Special game. 01:58 Frank is talking about how OJ is doing.
Yes, back then watching the satellite feeds was awesome. Listening to the announcers talking amongst themselves and to others allowed you to hears some great sound bites.
Raiders would have played Dallas in 1977 but. For the fumble by Rob Lytle that was over turned on the goal line gave Denver another play to score the points that put that put Denver in Superbowl.
3:43:50 I wonder what Plunkett is thinking career wise.. Plunkett not always pretty but got the job done. Also how in the he hell did the Raiders stay in this game 🤯.. back up QB's first start.. team with 6 turnovers!! Just win. 💀🏴☠️
This was the SB of the mid season..Raiders go on to win SB..Cowboys fell last 3 games of the season.. two against Washington who got blown out in SB by Raiders and Dolphins on last Monday Night Football in Miami. Dallas defense was not very good down the stretch and it ended Cowboys NFL record playoff run of 9 straight.. Dallas would miss playoffs in 1984 but make it in 1985 losing to the Rams in Tom Landrys last playoff game... ❤
When I was young I hated the Cowboys like nearly everyone else I knew. But at some point I realized that hating the Cowboys was the equivalent of being in a cult, and there was no logical reason to hate them. Now when I see people hating the Cowboys I feel kind of sorry for them. Life is too short--free yourself! But after leaving that cult, I got into another one: hating the Packers. And I admit I'm still not completely deprogrammed from that one!
Never understood why when Texas Stadium was built it wasn't determined that the roof wouldn't support a retractable design so they had to leave the hole in the roof. Couldn't they have designed a roof to allow this retractable design?
The MNF crew saw, in back to back games, 2 of the most craziest, offense-minded games in history. On the previous MNF game, the Packers had beaten the Redskins 48-47.
3:03:15 is that a fumble ? can that even be a fumble ? he's 'down' so .. I'm leaning towards no ? it's not the same as still being up and stripped .. never really seen that type of play before .. he was on the ground but not touched yet so it was technically still a 'live' play until he's touched
My guess is that since Marcus was raising his hand to show the catch, the referee felt he was giving up and staying down. It's also possible that the defender grazed the arm (making him down by contact) a split second before he grabbed the ball. The same thing happened in "The Comeback" game with the Oilers and Bills. May have been Don Beebe who raised his arm like that and had the ball knocked away, but the refs signalled down by contact.
Cowboys fan here. I love our uniforms but the Raiders have the best uniforms in the NFL. Their look is perfect. 49ers are second, and Dallas is third best.
This obviously is when all that started. Monday, Thursday, Sunday, Sunday night, ...gotta admit, I loved and still do love it. They can add another day as far as Im concerned...lol. The sport isn't what it used to be, but I still love football
Idk why but all of the sudden.....I wanna drive my Buick, while drinking a Budweiser, over my local Comadore retailer and buy myself a new home computer.....
This game is one of those "instant classics", with all the future HoF's and All-Pros on both sides and sidelines. A great game to look back on. However, Marc WIlson was such a terrible QB. His 1st rd draft pick was a waste with more than a few future Pro-Bowlers still on the board AND THEN, the biggest waste of all was the Raiders - specifically Al Davis - not picking Dan Marino since Wilson was still considered the QB to keep at the time. I still get headaches when I think about that and the possible "what-ifs" related to it.
YOU'RE REALLY NOT GONNA LIKE THIS ONE: Al Davis had a trade setup with the Baltimore Colts & the Bears to acquire John Elway!! That trade was Done on draft day and Pete Rozelle vetoed the trade. He made the Bears cancel it at the last minute
For arm to the head the ref called 37:00 if the cowboys defender wouldn't did that today in a game against a qb they would had kick him out the game and gave him a million dollars fine time change smh

I remember watching that wild game the Raiders was so much fun to watch.
We once had a Commodore 64 and it served us well...mainly playing video games on it, lol
2:17:05 Gifford asks why Landry doesn't switch to the 3-4. Landry: "I'm just too old to change."
Landry once answered the same question by mentioning only Randy White could play the nose for them, and he didn't want to
Marc Wilson's best game ever for the Raider's.... All downhill from there.
The 1984 game at Miami though.......
🛵 Raiders. No apostrophe. That makes words possessive.
2nd best. 1984 Vs Miami.
The last great Raiders team and their greatest team of all time!
Little frank Hawkins from Reno Nevada #!!! Playing wonderful #!!!🏝️😊☝️#!!!
Marc Wilson started the game for the Raiders
Appreciate you Ryan. Thanks for bringing the Best Badger content bro.
I always remember that Cowboy's "shift" before they snap the ball. 😊😊
" one step over the line old Harvey one step over the line" omg were those the days or what...ol Don Meredith...great memories
I remember watching this game as a kid in grade school. I was so upset when our undefeated season ended
Same here
The raiders was tough mentally and physically that year and my cowboys glory days was just about over
@@nymike06 yup
@@eulissbeniot9024 Last dominant team Dallas had until 1992 was the 1981 team. West coasts offenses began to emerge as well
Flex defense could do nothing against that type of offense. And of course NyG, Was, Bears were simply more physical and talented. Its just my opinion thu.
Doooood! This is like a live feed video. We get to hear them conversing w each other and their producers during commercial breaks!!! Wow
This video is wild! It stays in the booth thru the commercials and you hear the snf crew talking smack....
I Saw an early 1981/81 game with the 49ers and Madden was in the both and it was the same way no commercial cut away....wierd.
@@jeremiahrose4681 I can't stop watching these old games. I've got a great old game for you. 1983 week 16 Giants at Washington. This game has it all. This game means everything to Washington and nothing to the Giants but Parcells in an amazing coaching performance makes dam sure the Giants came to play. And boy did they, it's LT VS RIGGO
it's rain and mud and cold, it's Parcells vs Gibbs and to cap it all off it's Summeral & Madden..... anyone who has one let me know...I will love to watch it...
I was a REDSKINS fan back in the day btw
What a brilliant call at the end of the half
Rod Martin threw me his wrist band that night. Maybe because i was a Cowboy fan 😂. I still have it.
2:40:30. Marcus Allen. You talk about a gorgeous run. wow
What is with the font on Billy Joe Dupree's uniform
Sunday Night Football would not become a full time weekly event until 1987.
I was 20 on this classic night 📺👀
Rip the Juice may he Rest In peace
8:42 Did OJ just make a reference to blood stains??
😆
I was thinking at first this was a mistake because there was no SNF in 1983 but it looks like it a special edition of Monday Night Football. Good to see OJ. Lol
It was rare, but it did happen once in a great while. Thursday nights once in a great while also
They used to do at least 2 and 2 Thursday nights and Friday night late in season you new fans do your research
I had to scroll so far just to see someone mention Juice
Big L.A. Raider fan here, but cool to see Bates playing with these Cowboys and then later with championship teams...
Cowboys version of the 46 defense was called the Four O defense after Bill Bates, just like the 46 defense got its name from the uniform # of Bears safety Doug Plank
Cliff branch he's the man! Can't be covered by single coverage too fast
Very special Raider team. They just had "IT".
OJ killed it as commentator.
😂
Him and Howard Cosell were badasses of the booth.
OJ took a stab at broadcasting.
The WR Branch for the Raiders jersey number was 21, unusual for a WR.
It was because when he was a Rookie, the jersey number rules were different than in the 80's
Blientikoff of the Raiders wore #25 & Ahmad Rashad wore #28 with the Vikings. They were all Wingbacks that's why. Harold Carmichael the WR of the Eagles wore #17. Don't know how that was allowed
1980's the *"we could use more shoulder pads!"* decade
Completely useless fact: The Raiders were the last of the “original 28” to visit Texas Stadium. That goal post pad stayed in storage for 13 years.
I still love the LA Raiders !
3:05:52 3:33:01 Cowboys Cheerleaders :)
Ron Springs is Seattle DB Shawn Springs’ Dad
Straight out of va, I stayed in Ron springs dorm room when I played at juco coffeyville community college in kansas
Namath did the Monday night games that year if i recall correctly
Tom Flores 🏴☠️🇲🇽
Raiders would have played Dallas in 1977 but. For the fumble by Rob Lytle that was over turned on the goal line gave Denver another play to score the points that put that put Denver in Superbowl.
❤, I echo that since I was 10 day. In my mind; that was our back to back, Dream Super Bowl ----and would had been WWlll
Lot of Raiderheads not know of that.
Yeah, that was definitely a fumble
Only been to Texas stadium once glad they got that new one but wish it could have been in Dallas.
1. Roger Staubach
2. Don Meredith
3. Troy Aikman
4. Danny White
5. Eddie Lebaron
Then were the dark days….
I have never heard this one but as a cowboys fan, i like it!
Never understood why when Texas Stadium was built it wasn't determined that the roof wouldn't support a retractable design so they had to leave the hole in the roof. Couldn't they have designed a roof to allow this retractable design?
They left a hole in the roof of Texas Stadium bc they ran outta money. That's it. Then they came up with the So God Can Watch His Favorite Team Play
Rest Easy JUICE!
The MNF crew saw, in back to back games, 2 of the most craziest, offense-minded games in history. On the previous MNF game, the Packers had beaten the Redskins 48-47.
Very entertaining game.
How is it the listeners can hear the announcers talking in between the game action?
Must be ABC stock footage
Whomever recorded this game had an old Star Trek satellite. Sometimes you could pick up a live feed with those things
When the NFL.was really good.
Back when a head coach could proudly wear a suit, tie and fedora...
This commentary is killer 👀
Was gonna watch this video until I heard o.j.'s voice
Frank Hawkins! Playing the game of his life #!!☝️? And oj . Simpson calling it#!!! Only in America #!! It happened #!!! One summer 🏝️ night 🌉 #!!!
I'm here for the comments.
I wanted to see if graphic Viewer Warning was attached to this clip...'OJ'😆
1:51:42 winners play to win .. ya gotta take risks to be great
1:59:15 Staubach stops by to rib Gifford.
ABC Had Sunday Night Games?
Those were Monday night games
Very rarely, but it did happen as a "special" edition of MNF. The weird thing is, they would also have a MNF game the very next night as well
This obviously is when all that started. Monday, Thursday, Sunday, Sunday night, ...gotta admit, I loved and still do love it. They can add another day as far as Im concerned...lol. The sport isn't what it used to be, but I still love football
Games always looked better visually on TV when played at Texas Stadium, even from 83.
Idk why but all of the sudden.....I wanna drive my Buick, while drinking a Budweiser, over my local Comadore retailer and buy myself a new home computer.....
54:21 Dandy Don Meredith.....hard ass, tough guy
OJ was sharp as a blade in the booth
Good job.
If only the broadcast team knew it was the Raiders who go on to win the championship while Dallas only goes to the NFC championship
Cowboys didn't make it past the wild card game this season
Yep, and the D got even better with Mike Haynes, what a in season steal by Al Davis.
Hey Kyle, as Rob Taylor mentioned, Dallas didn't make it. Washington and San Francisco played in the NFC Championship game that year.
@@robtaylor4365 Yep, they lost to the Rams in the wild card game played at Dallas, when they had a rookie named Eric Dickerson
@@mongoslade277 Already knew this one. Nobody seems to know "officially" who squashed it, but we all know it was Rozelle.
Al Davis should have let Trump have Wilson..
Marc Wilson reminds me of Glennon. Lanky beanpole
LMAO loudly damn
For arm to the head the ref called 37:00
if the cowboys defender wouldn't did that today in a game against a qb they would had kick him out the game and gave him a million dollars fine time change smh
11:08 flea flicker to Danny White for-the TD!
Seeing OJ as an announcer is pretty funny 😂
Such a phony 🙄
oj wasnt that articulant
