Professor Carroll. This is a great video. The take issue with only two things here: 1. When you are doing the phph test, I would not have used the same swab to extract two different blood spots at 11:04, and 2. I would not have discarded the cutting from the fabric at 25:33, if only to establish later by way of mechanical fit that the fabric cutting came form that shirt, and not another shirt. Even though the first test is only a presumptive test for blood, it does show that two stain extracts were commingled, and before they were tested. Also, even though I agree that the fabric should contain no other semen after it has been centrifuged, it looked bad to see and hear a forensic scientist "discard" tested evidence. Of course, you are following your lab's procedures, but I can easily see a defense attorney making an issue of either of theses things, especially claiming that the cutting may have also contained exculpatory evidence. To a skeptical jury, that would sound reasonable, and all an attorney needs to get an acquittal is reasonable doubt. --David Cook, MFS, FCSI

I am 26 years old. Grew up in a dysfunctional family, went through multiple step dads and didnt know my real father until I was 12. I dont want to put blame on anyone other than myself but I tried to be like him when he isnt the greatest role model. I dropped out of school in my sophomore year to go be with him, he was strung out on all kinds of drugs. I wanted to make sure he was ok. It took me until recently to realize that I made to many mistakes and now I'm going in for my GED and then it's off to a 2 year community college course for forensic science then hopefully a transfer to a 4 year university. The odds dont seem to be great but I really want to do this. I want to help catch violent criminals so they don't warp the minds of anyone they havent gotten their hands on already. This will be the hardest thing I have ever attempted and am so scared but also confident at the same time. If anyone has any tips or stories on forensics, please let me know.. PS: If it were me I would probably wear a mask so that when your mouth opens saliva doesnt get on the evidence, also button your lab coat if your undershirt is personally owned.

I’m a freshman going into my 2nd year now I was debating between this, CSI and coroner even though they’re all under the same umbrella and I’m sticking with CSI. Currently I’ve only done CJUS classes but soon I will get to do forensic classes which excites me I wish you guys luck.

Weird question, but do I need to give analytic input for crimes in forensic science jobs or could I just be doing the lab work in just tracing evidence and such? I really want to use science in a job and this is a way I would like people be helped but a lot of people seem to know more about investigation and I dont think I can think like an investigator besides just knowing what I'm working with. I know I can be called as an expert witness and would be prepared to confirm the facts but they wont ask me like if the DNA/trace matching/not-matching actually proves an event or not, right? I'm ready to learn about criminology but I dont think I also want to be the one actually enforcing law than just to the lab work to allow others to correctly.
I want to major in this when I finish hs 😣😣😣 btw, do any of you in the comments know what I can do rn to prepare?? like internships or classes that I could be taking?? I'm already taking advanced cal and bio but that's about it 👀
