My fave crime drama trope is "Wait, stop the video there! Zoom in. Now, enhance it....!" and somehow the super grainy, blown-out, digitally-zoomed CCTV footage gets clearer.

    • @marycarla6245

Yes, in my household we call it "The Pixel Trick" where they take a grainy, blurry image of a reflection on someone's patent leather shoes and (magically) ENHANCE it and you see a crystal clear photo of the killer!! Perhaps now they can do a lot more with enhancement but in the early days (early 2000s) it was a laugh. Maybe in the basement at NORAD they have some software that can enhance to the point of clarity but frankly, once a pixel is blown out, it's gone. The computer can only *guess* what was there.

@@marycarla6245 One time, I think one of the CSI shows (which I actually do not watch because I think solving a case in just one episode is unrealistic, I usually fell right into an episode when switching on the TV) took this to the extreme and while zooming in they saw a reflection of "the guy who dun it" in the ballhead of the part of a car where you attach a trailer to.
As if that was not enough (after zooming in an incredible amount) they "simply" overlayed a 3D mask of the ball head to be able to correct for the distortion and get a clear face, that they threw at the computer and hey-ho, after like 10 seconds they had a match :P.

@@marycarla6245 the technology to enhance as shown in tv will probably not happen irl. Even at 8k when you zoom in things will get more blurry as pixels can only show so much information and "blowing up" will take the little information shown by the original pixels and make it larger inevitably making it blurrier and anything shown will be less distinct.

That's actually a really good idea! Although, The Office is not an attempted accurate portrayal of a realistic business setting. It's an exaggerated comedy and it probably wouldn't be something a professional would critique since it's meant to be satire. But still, I agree it'd be cool to see a professional analyze things like Mad Men, Wall Street or Boiler Room. There's definitely enough material to make one of these with a business theme.

I’ve never ever seen my brother in law cry, tear up, nothing.. and when I went outside he was online looking up his “brothers” he had lost in one of the attacks they had at the camp/base in Afghanistan.. he had tears streaming down his face😢 and the survivors guilt he displayed and opened up about that night was so heartbreaking😕 obviously his reaction isn’t everyone’s.. but seeing him like that makes me think about how other soldiers see these movies and what kind of memories it brings them back to.. but we never watched another movie like that with him..

Great ideas! I wonder if they’d have enough of the debate about having an autopsy, etc, to do one with coroners. My Dad was a county coroner at one point. It was a favorite tidbit my brother would tell potential boyfriends of mine, 😅 “It would be a shame if something happened to you. But since Dad’s the coroner, I’m sure he’d make sure the ME gives your case special consideration, might conduct it himself, out of concern. It’s just such a dangerous area." 🤣 He was obvious;t full of it, but he did have fun scaring people into their very best behavior. 😜

One thing i just now realized after having watched The Dark Night multiple times, and this video multiple times, about the “fingerprint recovery scene” is that you do not press the bullet into the clip. you would usually push down on the casing part of it. so not only is it scientifically impossible for the reasons he listed, it also just wouldn’t show up anyways because the thumb print would be on the casing, not the bullet
