I was helping to find some missing boaters. We finally located the last body, at this point the body had been in the water for roughly three days. The stink was unbelievable. The coroner shows up and starts taking deep breaths, while everyone else is trying and mostly failing to not vomit. After stuffing my stomach back in I asked her if she was literally the hardest person on the planet or did she know something about dealing with the ungodly smell. That's when I learned two things. First wa that yes she was indeed the hardest person on the planet and the second was nose blindness. Just take deep breaths until the smell goes away.

    • @PsychWorm

Mike Appleget that makes sense! When I saw the movie I thought it was to be more accurate and I liked the grittiness, the reality of death smelling bad. And it did make me feel closer to the situation! So in a way it was accurate for reminding the audience of the smell, just not in the actual behavior of the actors. Interesting!

Excellent presentation. What he explains is one reason why judges instruct juries to forget what they've seen on television crime shows, because real life generally is not like how forensics are presented in movies and TV series.

Cliff McMasters Crime Junkies, Up & Vanished, Murder & More, Red Ball, Serial Killer, Criminality (was my hand down #1. It had all the original FBI interviews you see on Mindhunters. They stopped updating it and took a bunch down but there are some episodes left), Casefile: True Crime, Sword & Scale (not sure if they are still posting).
