NAMOR won’t hesitate to drop hands on the Hulk for just farting in his presence. Routinely shit-talks fellow kings Black Panther & DOOM to their faces & then invades their countries to make a point. Has single-handedly taken on the entire FF while macking on Sue in front of Mr. Fantastic. The Chad of Atlantis gives absolutely no fucks about what the entire Marvel universe feels about him. What a Boss!
Namor is the biggest prcik of entire Marvel. I cannot stand the character.
Current Marvel leadership will make him a mincing ponce.
Yes and now he will become a superhero with a lame redemption arc that will work for the surface world and publicly apologized or some shit.
@@EvandroACruz most likely you are only aware of the character through marvel's mishandling of him over the last 50 years. namor is marvel's first super hero; in fact his first story pre-dates marvel tales #1. he was the first anti-hero of comics; thus making namor the blueprint for the flawewd marvel heroes to arrive later. he was the first comic hero to fly.
@@johnrunion5357 I read your Gold age comics and he never changed after all. your personality sucks. He never had a solo comic in the past 30 years.
To every writer: PLEASE STOP USING ‘GAME OF THRONES’ as a story template!!!
It's as bad as "It's the Dark Souls of...." in gaming.
I skipped Game of Thrones, but would LOVE to watch Game of Throwns!
"Game of Throwns" sounds like a wrestler storyline.
@@con_doorman It's not like it's even a typo. I think the guy genuinely thinks that that is how you spell thrones! 🤯
Whoops, sorry guys for the typo.
They are using this to set up their next series. Namora the Sub-Mariner, Queen of Atlantis.
Between what they did to Frank Castle and now Namor, I wonder how much of this is because of Kevin Feige?
But I thought namor was already deconstructed. Wakanda Forever anyone? Naaaamuuuurrr!
😂😂😂😂😂
I don't know if anything could be as bad as changing him from the king of Atlantis to a chubby mezzo American despot with a bone in his nose called "No-More." The character has been around for 85 years. Show some respect to him & his legacy.
Quite correct - he's the Sub-Mariner, not the Sub-Mexican.
That's right. In fact he predates Marvel Comics. He first appeared in an uncirculated giveaway comic called "Motion Picture Funnies Weekly" which was published before Marvel Comics #1 in 1939.
amen brother!
80 years of Namor going down the drain, what a shame
I read the other day that a television series for Namor was planned in 1954! It would have starred Richard Egan. I don't know whether a pilot was produced. If so I'd like to watch it.
@@teastrainer3604Back in the early 1960s, before Star Trek, Leonard Nimoy was actually considering making a movie about the Sub-Mariner, but he was talked out of it after the movie producers felt that the film would be way too expensive to make. Young Mr. Spock as Namor in the early '60s. Can you imagine?
Nice pfp
@@teastrainer3604 Egan would have been an excellent choice. He looked like Namor facially, had a great physique, & knew how to fight (he taught hand-to-hand combat in WW II). If it exists, I would love to see it, as well.
@@teastrainer3604you know who I would have liked to see play namor in live action? The guy who played Shang Tsung in the 1994 mortal kombat movie , he definitely has the namor looks , too bad that he is too old to play the character now
Man, that Vader Down story was kickass. Had prolly the best line in the history of comics.
Vader was surrounded by a large rebel contingent, the commander of which was telling Vader he was surrounded and should surrender. Vader says, in a voice I imagine to be dripping with contempt,
“All I am surrounded by is fear and dead men.”
Awesome.
That is a good line.
And how the fuck did Jason Aaron of all people bring that to us? Cuz he CAN be a GREAT writer, he just CHOOSES NOT to, like a lotta the veteran writers who just won't retire
Cough cough, Gerry Conway, Mark Waid, Peter David, J.M. Demattis, cough cough
That doesn’t sound like something Namor would do. It sounds like they are forcing another character into their own story.
Well it seems Marvel is getting rid of all its anti heroes consistently. As for the Punisher whatever the flaws Jason Aaron did leave a lot of plot holes and sequel hooks for Frank to come back. Maybe significantly upgraded. I think Frank is going to be a king/ emperor in Weird World. Or Frank will just learn to cripple and maim on a consistent basis. Frank was actually fairly merciful in that he usually gave quick deaths. As for Namor they probably realize it’s not a good idea to have despots/ tyrants as heroes.
I can wait to turn into a chick and make her gay and lame.
Don't blame Jason Aaron. His ideas got past at least 2 editors, a publisher and a marketing department.
Rest In Peace Namor. 😔
He's been dead since the 90s. Hasn't held a series past 12 issues since.
@@dayneinsayne The John Byrne and Jae Lee stuff really was good.
@@dayneinsayneHe was never meant to have his own series. He is way too overpowered. He should only be a special guest appearance in the Fantastic Four comic book like the Inhumans, or just only be on the Avengers super hero team as a reserve member just like the Black Panther. No one should be collecting comics about him being the king of Atlantis. That never mattered in the grand scheme of things. Just like it doesn't matter reading a comic book about overpowered Black Bolt being the king of Attilan or the overpowered Black Panther being the king of Wakanda.
Marvel Comics is just destroying their own characters.
For like 10-15 years now, nothing new.
I think one of the problems is that they can’t decide if he was a villain or a hero.
To me he was … and always will be a hero.
To me he was a noble hero.
I always see your actions pretty villainoius. He always come back to threaten the world again.
what they should do in an effort to simplify things for modern readers is to simply have namor as being on your side if you stand with atlantis, but if you are against atlantis ... watch out. all of the (near) r@pi$t type stuff they need to avoid.
I feel like saying “it’s gonna be like his punisher run” is a threat
it’s not namor…it’s namoooorrree
Damn. Sub-Mariner is one of my favourite characters. And yes I call him "The Sub-Mariner" not Namor. That's his civilian name. I'm a code name kinda guy when it comes to superheroes.
Anyway one of the reasons I like him is because he's more of an antihero than a goody twoshoes hero. He's fought against humanity almost as many times as he's fought for humanity.
Peak Marvel! This guy failed miserably last time and ruined one of our most loved charecters! He's sure to succeed this time. Marvel clearly has NOTHING left. Creativly Bankrupt.
So we’re supposed to believe that Namor “I’m king of the f***ing sea, what are you going to do about it” of Atlantis would just submit to any justice system?
That’s what I thought!!!
“Namor submitted to American, surface dwellers justice? Namor?! Namor?!”
@@LeadeshipcoachThe only thing keeping Namor from sinking Wakanda is a Captain America speech and a furious Sue Storm!
@@ChristineP223 🤣👍
What they did to Namor in the MCU was unforgivable the madness goes on
Namor The Sub Mariner was always one of my favorite Marvel Comics characters..& I was totally disgusted by what the MCU did to him..& after what Jason Aaron did to the Punisher..I'm NOT looking forward to his Namor book 😖
50 years ago I read the book "All in Color for a Dime", and the chapter on the golden age Timely characters started me off on a decades-long interest in comics. It's sad now to see what they're doing to these classic creations.
in the 1975-76 school year i was in the 8th grade. our school iibrary had a hardback edition of the comic book book which made me much more aware of comics and their history. The Great Comic Book Heroes
by Jules Feiffe was another eye opener about a year later. in the summer of 77 i got steranko's history of comics 1 & 2 and my mind was blown!
@@johnrunion5357 Yes! I still have my copies of those books too! I read them over and over.
@@primocorona4331 thanks for sharing!
Why isn't Jason Aaron writing this in DC? The concept sounds way more like Aquaman than Namor.
Every time I hear that Jason Aaron is working on a Marvel comic book, I look forward to the reboot that will eventually follow.
I can’t wait for Aaron’s Punisher run to get retconned, as will whatever will happen with this run.
Ed McGuiness was the only reason I stayed on that Aaron Avengers run. Was so happy when Ed moved on and I could drop it from my pull list.
It sounds like an old Aquaman storyline
War of the realms? I bet someone described the pitch as "It's like Game of Thrones, but with the avengers"
Love many of the Silver Age Sub-Mariner covers.
😂11:40 - house lizard in the background.
Best series his silver age and fantastic four appearances.
I was actually willing to give this a shot but when they said its gonna be like his punisher, I’m out.
As a lifelong Sub-Mariner reader, whether it be his Golden-Age appearances, his Silver-Age revival, the anthologies, and double features he's appeared in, I found his journey fascinating. Especially since he's worn many hats. He was a prince, a king, a war veteran, a hero, anti-hero, and villain. I think he's great. Though in recent years he's become nothing but "that guy who occasionally appears in Fantastic Four and hits on Susan." I feel that fans of this character have been low-balled for the past few decades. They can't even get his history right anymore. That's why I say his run truly ends with the passing of his creator, Bill Everett, who might I add barely gets recognized for his creation. The fact that Marvel is doing this just shows that Disney buying Marvel was an atrocity.
They already ruined him in Black Panther 2 and race swapped him
I always wanted to see if they could pull off a respectable Namor. Then when they adapt him, they change so much about him. He's not even Atlantean. They couldn't even bother casting the Latin equivalent of a Chris Hemsworth.
@@dillbert4084 Correct - that was Nah-moor, the Submexican. Namor, the Submariner has yet to be on the screen.
@dillbert4084 Dude, had a Dad bod.
He is ( for me ) forever Namor ( Nay-more!) … the avenging son! The King of Atlantis
Haven't given a damn about Namor since John Byrne stopped doing the character.
I feel like the requirements to be a comic writer/artist it should be this important rule know the source material. Retcons I don’t have a problem with Retcons some are cool but they can get annoying, frustrating, and confusing. Trying to read origins of a superhero and it gets retcon.
The last best Namor story was a Marvel Knights miniseries where Namor was a sea demon legend picking off a crew of people searching the ocean for something valuable. Won’t find another brilliant story like that with any of today’s writers.
Leave my boy alone
I don't care they can do whatever they want, I only read stuff from the 60s, 70s, 80s
Is there any blood left to drain from the Marvell/DC’s rotting corpses?
It’s Namor not Namurrrrrr.
The fact that he has Namor (I'm assuming that pic is from the upcoming series) in a hospital bed like some ordinary human, tells you everything! Namor is a high level mutant, with a high degree of invulnerability, superstrength, super endurance, able to fly, breathe under water and is an experienced warrior king that goes toe to toe with Leviathans, armies and the likes of The Fantastic Four, Hulk and Thor. Let's say for the sake of argument that there is someone mighty enough to put some damage on him. Why would Namor end up on a regular, human hospital bed?! What needle, what human medicine could even affect him?
It's asinine. It's idiotic writing. My reaction to these news was exactly the same as yours. After what this guy did to The Punisher, why would I think he'd do Namor The Submariner any justice??
Chip Zdarsky did some interesting things with Namor in his Invaders run
They are most likely going to synergize Namor so that he resembles his MCU version.
🤮🤮🤮
Even with the replacement Punisher going down quick I don’t think Marvel really gets how much Jason Aaron’s Punisher retconfest really hurt the character. Comparing what Jason Aaron’s Namor series to the Punisher is NOT a good way to advertise Namor.
Maybe Namor will be sent to Weird World. Maybe they are setting up a new Exiles series with literal exiled Marvel characters.
Deadpool: I love Namor disemboweling me, then feeding my guts to his sharks. We're hermanos.
Hmmm, so this is Marvel asking Jason Aaron, "How much further can you damage this character?" as if Namor's use in Aaron's Avengers wasn't enough degradation. Namor is one of my top favorite comic characters and I've read much (close to all) of his appearances (currently rereading the 90s John Byrne volume). Namor is a multifaceted character that received wonderful character development from the 60s to the late 90s. Since then, the writers tackling him from the 2000s to current have regressed his character to a one-dimensional a-hole. He's noble like the kings of old and at his core a hero who ultimately always does the right thing. He fights fiercely for his people who are both his greatest strength and his Achilles heel. What's been done to him over the last twenty years has been largely destructive to his character and legacy, with a few exceptions here and there. He needs a writer who understands him and simply tells a heroic story with him. A deconstruction, like the solicit suggests, at this point would be redundant.
Is Jason Aaron trying to out "Tom King" Tom King???? Good grief
Hickman was the last writer to write Namor halfway decent
Anybody else focused on the Lizard, running on the floor and disappearing under the sofa? No, just me?
>Punisher Treatment
One of Two Things is happening here.
A. Why Yes. They ARE AWARE That Namor the Sub-Mariner is going Public Domain in a Decade Right alongside Superman and Batman and a lot of other Golden Age Supers. And this is just standard procedure 'make it as PAINFUL AS POSSIBLE for the Toxic CHUD Fans' out of SPITE mixed with The Studi doesn't care anyway because they want to make this Character Radioactive before ANYONE ELSE Gets him 'If I cant play with my Toy Then NOBODY CAN!'
B. Setup to 'just Kill Namor' and likely make him 'Stay Dead.' Maybe do something similar to how 616 Fury was replaced with the Marvel Nick Fury on the grounds that they are 'Technically' Alternative Characters with different names and Backstories but its another symptom of the MCU's Affects and Top-Down decrees for what the Comics should look like.
They will ALSO Have the Rights for THAT Namor Version because they can call him something VERY SIMILAR and then try to sue you for Using the Public Domain Namor for an Original Story that you make in a Decade BUT it JUST SO HAPPENS that 'Oh Yeah we were TOTALLY doing that storyline with NU NAMOR' THATS TRADEMARK AND COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT!
It's sleazy and scummy.
They already killed Namor and resurrected him within 5 issues of Squadron Supreme.
Also like hie defenders books with hulk Silver Surfer dr. Strange.
@11:42 Run little lizard run!
Let me guess, movie synergy. This version of Namor will be the same version they had in Black Panther 2.
And don't forget: Nick Fury, Punisher, Namor and Wolverine (all f*cked up by Aaron) are some of the most manly characters ever created.
The agenda is obvious.
What happened to Hickman plan for namor and the xmen after that great tease with Xavier approaching him in hox
F*CK
Not again.
Jason Aaron back to write Namor?
Damn, it was a good character.
RIP Namor.
So Aaron is doing the same on Namor as Abnett did on Aquaman? Lame.
Great episode sir, Informative and fair and rational, and you are so so SO right about Namor!!!! 🌊⛵
It's Game of thrones with the Jeffersons....😂😂😂😂
So it'll out that Princess Fen never actually liked Namor's Dad.(can't remember his name.)
I never cared for Namor but I’m quite fond of Tmnt. Hide your characters he’s coming for them.
2:30 LOL
There's a lot of dope possibilities
What is love? Baby don’t hurt me, don’t hurt me, Namor!
Woah woah woah, his punisher run is one of the only punisher stories I’ve ever enjoyed
I don't really care for Namor, but being Marvel's first hero (or second, I can't remember which) calls for some level of respect. And Jason Aaron's Punisher treatment doesn't really seem to give it. Quite the opposite actually. It breaks and changes everything about the character. And what exactly did he do to Wolverine? I'm not really familiar with his work on Logan.
Game of Thrones Teletubbies? For some reason, I'd watch that. It'd probably be wild.
Not a regular, but I pop in from time to time. There is only so much modern comics I can take.
That being said, I just finished the Mighty Marvel Masterworks Sub-Mariner so this video caught my eye.
I’ve found a lot of enjoyment collecting/reading that line of silver age Marvel comics as an alternative to the current stuff. It’s digest/manga sized but the art still pops and Lee, Kirby, Ditko, Colan…good reads!
Anyway, thanks for the content!
At 3:18 you had brought up the pronunciation of Sub-mariner's name. I had always accented the last syllable, nay-MOR. Does anyone know how Bill Everett pronounced the name? In my mind that would be the "correct" way.
that cover looks dope but you know I just finished his avengers run... wow... that volume was soooooo Long
If you are Promoting a Series by comparing it to the Punisher , it can mean only one of two things . You are either complete idiots , or you found out you've only driven off 99% of the fan base you've been trying to purge for the last 10 years , and figure this will get that 1% left . Actually ..both can be True .
Cunts in control.
This is actually an ongoing problem with the character. The original premise of Namor was that he was a guy from an archaic civilization that wanted to destroy the surface world because they feared it. Namor then leaves the sea and begins to learn that the world is a more complicated place. The contrast between Namor and the surface world is what makes the character interesting. It's the definitive fish out of water story. But ever since Marvel relaunched the book in the 1960s, nearly every writer chooses to focus on Atlantis. However, Atlantis is incredibly boring and one-note. If you ever want Namor to be a success again (the last time literally being the '40s), take him out of the ocean and explore his character in the outside world.
Promise to change Marvel lore forever. Until another Marvel writer comes aboard
I don't plan on ordering any for the store.
I wouldn't say Aquaman is a bigger character than Namor, though granted he has featured more in cartoons and on merchandise. Check out Chip Zdarsky's New Invaders from a few years back. That was a decent take on Namor, and explained why he suffers so much from anger. Also I thought the Christopher Cantwell alternative future mini from a year or so ago wasn't too bad either (yep, I know you don't like him Wes!)
Aquaman is a true hero, Namor always was a antihero or a villain.
Awesome work mate
I smell another character “deconstructing”…. Oh yay. Just what we all wanted (sigh)
DUDE you got a bug problem in the background (floor, top left) between 9.55 and 12 mins. Eek 😢
Did Anyone See what i saw at 11:38 of the Video Was That a 1000 legg bug omg ... Left shoulder under closet ... 😮😅 Yikes
I believe it was a lizard.
Thats not bad ... I Hate those Dam Bugs... lol Give me the Creeps lol
And I Absolutely Love Your Channel and Your Opinions ... Thanks Brother
Who on earth could beat up Namor to that extent, he's one of the toughest characters in Marvel. Poor Namor, no one deserves the Punisher treatment.
What was that blur on the floor near the cupboards after 10.00?
“Nay-more”… at least that is how the 60s cartoon pronounced it.
How similar will this be to Peter David and Esteban Maroto’s Atlantis’ Chronicles?
EXCELLENT WORK. THINKING CRITICAL
All the males in Marvel are not safe anymore.
I mean didn't he already do that during his avengers run?
It’s “El Namuuuur.”
Namor was my favorite since I was a kid. No one used to believe me when I said that, but it was totally true. I just loved how he was basically an egotistical badass to everyone. It made him different than everyone else. Not to mention he was super powerful and a ladies man. I did NOT like what they did with him in the MCU, it wasn’t Namor. I don’t read comics anymore because it’s been mostly garbage in my opinion for quite a while. I still have about 5 long boxes with all my old stuff though 😂👍🏽
I Pronounce his name like "Nay-more". Could be worse, it coyld be Tom King writing it.😂😂😂
Marvel needs to wipe the last 30 years off the books at least as if it was a Mephisto tormenting Mr Fantastic have Mr Fantastic have to work with Doom because Doom understands the one science he doesn’t (magic) then together they defeat him and replace the current marvel universe with one going forward from that
I don't have a lot of faith in the book but I'll give it a chance. The MCU No-More was bad. Namor as Phoenix was tiring. The Bryne era was probably the best solo book so it is upsetting what this could end of being. Also, what is that scurrying on the floor behind you?
so cap was in prison then daredevil was in prison now namor so who will be marvel's next jailbird?

Most countries pronounce the letter A exclusively as AH, unlike our country, in most cases. That's why you have the different name pronunciations of Namor. Being a Fantastic Four fan for the past 50 years, I was always fascinated by the dynamics between Namor and Susan. It's been many years since I have seen a good Namor story, so what Jason Aaron is doing doesn't surprise me. Marvel is now a girl power and lgbtq+ publisher, out to cuck or destroy as many strong hetero male characters as possible. After Wolverine, Frank Castle, and now Prince Namor, I'm surprised Marvel hasn't gone after Peter Parker, more than they have so far, yet, even if what they are doing to Peter is already pretty bad, considering that new Goblin storyline coming up, makes me want to throw up... and I think by putting a female Silver Surfer in their next Fantastic Four "movie", they're probably going to replace Norrin Radd with a female in their comics, too. After all, it's the M SHE U..... sigh...
Aaron doing the Alan Moore shtick, deconstruct the character. This destroyed Wildcats
Eh, there aren't enough Namor fans to carry a book regardless of the writer.
Aaron was the 1st person to get me to drop Avengers in 40 years. It was that bad. Granted I haven't enjoyed Avengers since Busiek left.
If we got Aaron who was in his prime of Scalped, Otherside, Wolverine &xmen or 1st Wolverine run...then id be so fricken excited.
When is Namor Public Domain? Why not burn it and create something new they can try to milk for 75 years.
sub-mariner is the rodney dangerfield of comics. he gets NO respect! i HATE the way marvel has mishandled sub-mariner ... for the last 50 years! ... ever since his first marvel series got cancelled with issue 72. marvel just doesn't know how to write namor; perhaps he is simply too complex for their writers or for modern audiences. readers who have come along in more recent decades do not truly know the character nor do they know his importance; not just for timely/marvel, but for all of comics.
Oh boy sounds like another deconstruction of a hero we love
Maybe I'm just bitter about how some of my favorite characters have been treated, and maybe things would have happened either way, but I can't help but wonder how comfortable the writers would be ruining major characters if more fans had spoken out when lesser characters were ruined. There were "lesser" characters that were ruined, but when their fans complained, there were fans of more major and "mainstream" characters saying things like, "Who cares? They suck anyway!" so they could feel superior. The arrogant writers who don't care about the characters (or the fans of the characters & storylines), and their enabling editors who give them free reign to ruin the characters & history, are to blame for the terrible stories & characterizations, but I wonder if they would feel as confident in declaring open season on characters if fans had complained more when it first started happening.
Aaron looks like a untalented alan moore trying to look cool drinking his apple juice..
