Anyway, here's my review of the San Martin SN019-G, their upgraded Rolex Submariner homage.

I have these watch since 2020 it is crazy the quality I live in Miami 4 years beach pool and everything the watch looks like new!!!!

I think it's cool that these guys give watch nerds that would never dream of owning a real Rolex a chance to enjoy a classic design. Never considered buying a homage before bu slowly am starting too see the appeal.

Pity the end lugs don't mimic the SN017s format. These ones stick out a bit too much comparatively.

the Cronos L6005 does NOT have this clasp locking problem, and it has a quick adjust 'gliding' lock. Check it out. Its also only 40mm not 41mm.
I've seen this watch crop up a few times recently and it's been turning my eye. Thanks for a good laugh and seemingly honest review! "No more politics" 🤞
Great review. I recently purchased the SN019 (PT5000 version).
But I am pretty disappointed and feel this watch is quite overhyped.
First issue was that the screwed links of the bracelet were so tight when trying to size the bracelet that I could not unscrew them and it turned out the threads were broken. San Martin support only wants to send me 2 replacement links even though 3 links were damaged. I never had such an issue with any other steel bracelet.
Second but more severe issue is the PT5000 movement. I constantly have my watch running 21 seconds fast per day. This is way worse than expected as the PT5000 being an ETA 2824-2 clone should at least run +-12s/day and is reported to run even way more precise.
So these are some heavy drawbacks. Apart from that the build quality is excellent and the watch wears fantastic.
The nh35 movement is a million times more reliable. The sn017 is true to size with a better clasp too.
My pt5000 performs almost as well as my Tudor and slightly better than my Steinhart
Hey Pip! Excellent video! I have the 40 mm version of this watch. But this one looks even better finished, impressive! Congrats mate on 1000 subs! It's well deserved. I already own the BB homage and I rather watch your videos for the fun than getting free stuff. That said I'm gonna add "more politics please!" ✌
If you have the second generation bracelet for the BB58 homage, You can contact customer service and ask to buy the new female end links and clasp. I got them for mine and it make a big difference, plus the new clasp is so much nicer.
SM has gone away from that bracelet, I think they had heard enough complaints about the glide lock. I like it, but it could be tighter locking for sure. My only other issue is with the slightly crooked cyclops. on mine but I’ve learned to live with it. Overall I really like this watch and am enjoying it as my daily wear watch.

The problem with the clasp is common. I still like the clasp, once you get it on your wrist, adjust it and close the clasp. Mine seems to hold if I do it this way.
Nice watch and nice review! San Martin know what they are doing but with these prices they should experiment a bit with the designs, reissue vintage models with newer materials or come up with something original, they have great potential.

The Chinese are very intelligent and resourceful people I don’t know why they don’t study this thing further and come up with the best homage,,,,one that at a glance it’ll look exactly like a Rolex sub mariner right down to the wording and the insignias etc. it would be a play on words basically make it function like no other make it look and feel exactly the same and bring it in for $1000 or less. they do that and then their first year they’ll sell close to a quarter of $1 billion worth of these watches,,, by the time the second year rolls around the word would be out and they won’t even hardly be able to keep them in stock and they’res won’t have to constantly go back to the shop to be adjusted and cleaned and lubed and maintained.
San Martins edges used to be very sharp on the older models, how are they now? Still sharp?
Based on the latest I have, it's got a lot better!

I very much enjoy "homage" watches for their appearance, wearability, performance, and just straight-up value. I do not care in the slightest whether someone I encounter thinks I'm wearing a [ insert watch being homaged ] or not because my collection has just one job, and that is to please me. Watches as good as this completely embarrass the multi-thousand-dollar watches to which they pay tribute. But did you really have to slip in the Leftist political jabs? Obviously the give-away is long done, but I'll say it anyway; NO MORE POLITICS!

Hello, I can't decide between the san Martin and the cronos l6005, please help. I like the cronos due to the better glidelock, option for a no date dial, and full lume bezel but if the San Martin is objectively better I will go for it. Also the 41mm is holding me back. Thanks
Hello! Ok, I tried a Cronos custom dial Sub homage and it was great, but it did have a couple of QC issues. Their customer service was excellent and solved my issues without any questions. Weirdly, both watches had the same issue with the glidelock clasp, but based on what I’ve seen from people who have bought them since I reviewed this version, it’s less common now. I couldn’t say either way which is better, but I would decide purely based on what was cheaper. If that’s the Cronos, I’d get that. 😅sorry, hope that helps!
@@LumePip thanks! I am ultimately going to go for the cronos since it is widely available on amazon with prime shipping. I refrain from buying from aliexpress or other unknown sites. What QC issues did you have exactly? and did you contact cronos or Ali?

San Martin seem to be leading the way in terms of quality on Ali Express, but I worry that they are slowly creeping up in price, and in danger of becoming too expensive for the Ali customers - whilst not having the brand recognition of the entry level Swiss watches. Just to be clear before SM fans get upset - I too am a fan of SM, that's why I worry.

No more polliesdiks. Agree that Rolex proportions are getting stoopid and 40mm + 20mm lugs is a much better size, and that San Martin don't need to jump on Rolexes failboat with oversized dimensions. But this one is for the clomagers. I guess if it's useful for some people if they are on the wait list for a Rolex sub and have smaller wrists and want to see if they can actually pull it off or not (that's what she said).

Nice review amigo! I have the San Martin SN017-G, the one with the Seiko NH35 and the 20mm lugs mentioned in your video. You cover great points regarding my watch and the one in your review. For me the upgraded movement was not enough of tradeoff for the larger case size and odd size lug width. Also for those that were wondering, the machining and quality of the case and bracelet is very comparable to the SN019-G. Cheers everyone!

I have to agree with you on the size. I generally refuse l2l above 48mm because I just end not wearing anything longer.
Are the hands not fading quite a bit faster than the indices?

I think maybe on my footage - where I usually go over the watch with a UV torch - I tend to circle around a bit, and I think, based on my idiot monkey brain logic, that might play some part (though it likely doesn’t), so you could be right looking at it. As with a lot of these things, they tend to show up more on camera, whereas in real life, one just doesn’t notice it as it’s so negligible. As for the AR, as far as I know - based on various people’s posts on the Rolex Forums - Rolex DO use AR coating, but only on the cyclops.

I was choosing between the sn019 and the blue bb homage and chose the sub. Now it's my time to own both!
My 019 clasp kept loosening on it's own too. Sticking with my 017 for now
No more politics. In your opinion is it better to get the black dial with the green bezel or black dial with a black bezel. Which one would you say is more eye-catching where people might say wow that's beautiful
I'm so sorry I didn't reply to this at the time. Unfortunately I wouldn't have had a good answer then, either! 😆 I had the green bezel insert on a Cronos Sub homage, but wished I'd gone for the black, because I always think the colours never quite match the brilliance one imagines. Hope that helps, despite the insane delay in responding. Again, apologies for that!

Out of all the ones I've seen in pics and videos, this still looks like the best option this side of a Ginault. Still: I'm kinda reluctant for various reasons. 41mm and well over 50mm effective L2L seems too much for my wrist and I also don't like the 21 to 18mm taper (should be 20 to 16). Not sure what sort of bracelet was on the variant in the video, but they definitely don't sell that pseudo-Glidelock clasp any longer.
Plus I'm not certain what sort of watch I'd be getting if I ordered today. Some stores claim theirs still has that weird looking Commodore 64-font "S" on it, some show "Automatic 200m" at the 6 o'clock instead of the supposedly current "Automatic - 200m = 660ft" text, etc, etc. Small details, yes, but given my more fundamental gripes with this one re size/wearability, I'm kinda undecided. I do know that most (all?) of the alternatives with better dimensions will probably be inferior to this one, but what good does that do if the SM looks like a saucer sitting on my wrist?
How does it compare to a steinhart?
I've not actually tried one!

I have the San Martin SN017 apart from yes bracelet has sharp edges.
I also have the Cronos Luxury Diver no date. I wanted a no date and a date Rolex Submariner Homage.
I prefer the no date,San Martin should make a no date Rolex Submariner Homage as well.
The only thing the Cronos has over the San Martin the Bezel moves nicer ,like a Omega and Rolex, which l have experienced.
Yes there is a bit of side play on the Cronos Bezel, but still better than the San Martin Bezel.
I am extremely happy with both watches.
Rolex there queue or waiting list can 💋 my you know what.

So what’s the difference between this and the SN017 ??
Basically the slightly different dimensions and the movement - this uses either the PT5000 or the SW200, whereas the SN017 is the NH35, from what I remember.

No more politics. read nice review i’ve had the same trouble with these glide locks I think they just don’t work because you can’t make a cheaper glide like you have to put very high-quality into it in order for it to work right and that would just raise the cost too much of these watches. I know! It’s such a shame, but now they’ve upgraded the clasp, the bracelet is definitely one I can recommend. Comfortable and all the rest of it. Finishing is second to none, as well 🤘

Great review! San Martin really makes some incredible watches for the money, but you're definitely right about the AR. The Blue AR makes the crystal look almost milky in certain low light situations. Hopefully they go to clear in the future.

I have been looking at this watch for a long time, and have read about that glidelock problem in other examples, hope they get that fixed soon, i think they are changing the clasps on the new production but they haven't put any details about that in their aliexpress page yet so i am still waiting.
they have already changed the clasp to the newest version.
