    Nicely balanced review Mike, thank you. Goes the extra mile in terms of looking inside at the dial and movement in a way that I haven't seen before. Also for those of us who have cracked open and serviced a couple of dozen NH35s, making it right.

    As an owner of Rolex, I feel justified owning the SN017 - I can’t by a Sub from Rolex so Inwill buy a Sub somewhere else and this one (17 in my case) is quite good. These are not my GMT Master II but excellent and I love it.

    I really enjoyed the review. I actually like the homage or borrowed design. I also like the blank back. The (R) brand does make some of the best designs of all time so I’m actually happy with all the borrowed designs that they make. Thanks again for the review. 👍

    The mix of polished and burnished finishes is very well done, I especially like the highly polished chamfers and bezel scallops. I enjoy the great closeups of the uncased watch, but I don't envy your effort in having to clean up before reassembling,

      I almost think this dial had static as the dust poured in! as a hobbyist watchmaker I have no problem taking them out the case and maybe in this channel or my other one I will soon start to take some of these Chinese movements apart.

    Interesting to see the dirt on the rotor. I have one SM with an NH35. It died on the first day I had it. However, I cannot fault SM's customer service. They organised and paid for it's return to China, and a new movement was put in and the watch returned. I had a custom dial design, so I am assuming they didn't just sent me and entirely new watch. It has worked with no issues for the last two years.

    • @mywatchreviews
      @mywatchreviews  Год назад +1

      It is good to hear a positive story of their customer service as usually you only ever read negative mainly because the positive outcomes are not shouted out.
      An issue in the movement is probably not their fault, it does not take much to stop a watch and the NH35 will not have been assembled by a human. Pleased your watch is now all good and your happy.

      @@mywatchreviewsI just received my SN0111-g-a.
      First impressions are positive. I can see and feel the improvements in overall finish compared to my now 2 year old San Martin. Far fewer sharp edges.
      So far I have only two minor gripes:
      I think a flat sapphire would have suited it better than the slightly domed crystal it has. I have a genuine Rolex Explorer 214270, and I suppose I am used to the flat crystal it has.
      The female end links are pointless. They are not capable of folding down beyond the angle of the fixed outer end links or lugs. This means they extend the effective lug-to-lug length just as much as fixed male end links would. So, you get the less visually appealing (IMHO) female end links with none of the benefits that people with smaller wrists are looking for. In this aspect, I prefer the male end links on my old San Martin’s bracelet.

    I've noticed Yoda making more frequent appearances both here and the myretrowatches channel 😁. For the price, it's a really solid choice. The phantom position on the NH35 would make me twitch, but I dislike cyclops so it might balance out. For someone looking for a decent water resistant tool watch, this Sab Martiner looks like decent pick.

      Yoda is something quite personal and he will be in many videos. During my cancer diagnosis, treatment and now afterwards I joined a FB group on prostate cancer where I made some new friends. Amongst some of these fellow warriors was a guy called John. He was a few months ahead of me on treatment and he offered me a lot of support. We had got to know each other and I found out he was a Star Wars nut and also very good at making and painting models .
      I mentioned in one conversation that as a lad I had the original Yoda back in the 80s but a mate of mine nicked it off me.
      Low and behold a few weeks ago this turns up from John. It was a lovely gesture, from what we both went through and our support for one another.
      It 50 it almost feels a bit silly to have Yoda but I said he would make it in the videos here and there. Still means the world to me just as a symbol of all that bad stuff and that we are both still here

    Great review, I think SM did a good job with that exposed spring bar..look at the thickness of the shoulder junction / end pin , I suspect it is used in favour of a usual spring bar for added security & strength and to prevent the deaded `clicking` spring bars make especially in a vulnerable area like that piont in the strap.

      I agree it’s done to death and I make mention of that. However this design sells in numbers and for San Martin it’s a numbers game and people want these designs. As much as it’s a nice watch it’s not really for me.
      The clasp is fine I like the glide lock system but curious why a spring bar is not used. I can only think these pins are perhaps harder wearing? Most people would never be undoing it like me anyway.

Is it possible in your next reviews to show how the movement is secured in the case and also to show what type of pendant tube SM are using whether it is push in glued or a nice screw in one like the Daytona trip lock tubes that one can pick up from Ali express.

    • @mywatchreviews
      @mywatchreviews  Год назад +1

      Hi Tony, any NH35/ 34 / 38 movements are always a friction fit, I have never once seen and clamps to hold them in place. For PT5000 movements I have seen movement clamps. For pendant tubes I have never given them a second thought. I would be surprised if San Martin would be using ones that are clued (never personally seen this on my watch repair channel) almost all San Martin are screw down crown so you would expect these to be a good press fit.

    Nice to see this thing under the microscope. Truth be told, I've seen Rolex watches at similar magnification and while they do look better and more carefully finished, none of them were "perfect", either. The difference in quality is there of course, but is it a $9,700 difference? Not sure.. :)
    Two things are holding me back from getting this one: Lack of date/cyclops (I actually like those in this type of watch) and the choice of movement. I recently bought my very first San Martin (SN 0109) which has an NH34 and I'm not overly impressed with that movement. Otherwise, that watch is lovely, BTW and I do hope you'll be putting that one under the microscope as well.
    Their other Sub-homage that interests me (SN 019G) does have a lot of features I'd like to have, but it's a little too big, its bracelet doesn't have enough taper and its male end-links stick out way too much for my taste.

    • @mywatchreviews
      @mywatchreviews  Год назад +2

      Thanks for the detailed comment. What don't you like with the NH34? its simplicity? In one of the Tudor homage GMT they did they had a high beat Chinese GMT which I quite liked ( think its on this channel in one video with 3 watches) That movement gets some stick online but I actually quite like it. Its certainly a ETA clone base.
      I am sure San Martin will be making many more sub homage, my bet is they sell really well so hopefully in time they make one that you like. This on in this review they have now made a titanium version but it has some magic going on with the steel as its steel coloured rather than that dull titanium look.

      @@mywatchreviews Yeah... as it happens, WD are offering the Ti-version from their "Germany Warehouse" at a pretty great price at the moment. Since I live in Germany, I'm very tempted - despite the lack of a date/cyclops :)
      There are a few points I don't like about the NH34:
      1. Less smooth 3Hz sweep
      2. Very tricky to re-start the movement without the minute hand jumping around (could be the fault of the watch/crown)
      3. GMT hand doesn't align properly and not in a consistent kind of way. According to my watch-maker after he inspected the watch, it's the fault of the movement, not of shoddy setting of the hands ("I could re-set those hands all I wanted, it would never line up properly").
      4. Hand-winding feels coarse and almost ratchet-y (again: could be my example or the fault of the crown/watch).

      Agreed it’s what I said in the video too. This one has been done to death but it sells…. The MD of San Martin posted on insta a while back saying that their original designs do not sell well which when they put money into making the Watch is not a good business model. So they have almost become a bit typecast as a result. I know when they do put their minds to it they can make some great designs. I own a few to prove it.
      The Sub has been done to death and this one although nicely made is not my cup of tea .
      There will be a video coming on 3 Tudor wannabes which you may think the same however I actually see them as a good stepping stone. Try it out and if you like it go for the original . At least with Tudor they are not out of reach and you can actually buy one from a dealer.
      The beginning of the video I also show a GMT which is coming up (so I can move on to other reviews) this one I Beckie is their own design and I actually like it. Think it’s a 38 or 39mm too so perfect for sizing .
      Thanks all the same for watching I need all the support I can over on this channel to get it off the ground so I can get more brands involved. They all want 8-10k subs before they will look at you.
