At only $250 for the San Martin against almost $5000 for the extremely advanced Pelagos, this is another of my crazy comparisons...or is it...?

Overall I like the San Martin. I'm quite impressed by how well they managed to integrate the date window. The matt bezel insert is also great, I'd like to see more of these. One thing I would like to see changed are the polished chamfers. I know San Martin like to show off their case finishing. But to emphasise the toolish character of the watch I would prefer brushed chamfers like the Tudor has.

I like the Pelagos for its looks and innovations (Clasp/Matte Bezel). There are a couple things I can appreciate yet do not favor in the Pelagos. 41mm/22mm strap width and a date feature that compromise symmetry.
I purchased the Blue San Martin 6200 Snowflake Limited Edition. At the same time I purchased the San Martin Adjustable On-The-Fly Clasp.
This gives me the size (39mm) I want and on the go bracelet sizing I like. The height of the San Martin indices on the dial I prefer and the blue AR and Blue dial are superbé!
The only thing that I am concerned about is the glossiness of the San Martins' bezel. I like the Matte finish much more. I think I have found a work-around for that too.
The divers extension is nice but I never wear a scuba suit and I find rubber bondage suits abhorrent.
I always enjoy your videos and I like your Pelagos!

I think San Martin did a fantastic job with this watch. Watch Dives has already come out and said a Titanium version will be released soon. So that's good! I may be in the minority but I wish the watch was larger like the Tudor and I also wish it had the helium escape valve. I find it odd that San Martin put the helium escape valve on their recently released Titanium Submariner homage, SN0111T but not on this watch.

Great video as usual. Excellent comparision points here. I've actually never been a huge fan of Tudor divers (I know, I'll see myself out lol). Nevertheless I highly enjyoy comparisions like this. Of course the Tudor will win in some quality aspects (which it should considering the price difference), but the SM holds up pretty well here. I actually prefer the darker dial and less text. 42mm vs 39mm is a subjective matter, having a 6.5 inch wrist I might prefer the latter (even though I own some 42mm divers that works for me).
I also might be a bit controversial here, but titanium steel doesn't really do it for me. I got a Heimdallr SKX model which I chose because of the fun dial, and I also own a Zelos Swordfish, both titanium. I really enjoy both of them, but while I appreciate the lightness, their sensitivity to scratches is always bugging me. But that's just me lol.

    • @Horologique
      @Horologique  Год назад +1

Thank you very much! Indeed the San Martin turns out really well, especially if you consider that it's only 5% of the price of the Tudor. I totally understand about Titanium, the aspect is not always as appealing as stainless steel or the brushing as well made

You should absolutely check out their new grade 5 titanium Sea Dweller homage. It looks bonkers for $400.
Also, the SN0111G is not a Pelagos homage. It is a Submariner homage with a Snowflake dial, as if Tudor still produced their version of the Submariner today. It's a homage of a watch that doesn't exist, and never will since Rolex would fear downplaying their brand and product image.

The seconds hand on the San Martin has a small practical issue: the length between the snowflake and the tip of the hand is shorter, thus when the seconds hand sweep over the date it makes it unreadable (example: 04:00). On the Pelagos it is taken into consideration so the length between the tip and the snowflake is symmetrical (example: 02:56) with the date cutout thus the snowflake does not cover the date. San Martin should consider removing the inner chaptering or the date since it does not look aesthetically pleasing. Same with the proportions of the hour and minute hand

Tudor Pelagos 39 is a modern interpretation of Tudor Submariner from the 60s. It does not include the inner rehaut chaptering but I can see you never knew that.
Another issue is that it will ruin dial symmetry and hands symmetry. If you don't understand what I am trying to say, look at San Martin and the messed up seconds hand symmetry compared to the date cutout. Unlike the Pelagos it is not taken into consideration and the diamond snowflake covers the date.

Obscene copy of a real watch. These cheap copy are an insult. They have no respect. Why don't they try to create something of their own? Who is the customer of this "watch".? A wannabe.
Buy a honest seiko instead, at least is not a chinese copy of something else
