    This watch is absolutely fantastic. I bought a Cronos Tudor homage and the quality was so good I opted for the SW200 movement. I think San Martin missed the boat to do a PT5000/SW200 option here. The fit and finish are calling for it.

    • @pmolitierno
      @pmolitierno 5 месяцев назад

      I have the SM Pelagos Homage in SS and the NH35 is the biggest drawback. The sweep isn't smooth enough for my taste. Fit and finish on the watch is top notch though.

      @@MarkoMarkovina it's called personal preference. Not saying NH35 isn't a workhorse, I just prefer higher best rate sweeps. I gave away the SM Pelagos homage because of this.

    I’ve been waiting for Tudor to make a smaller pelogos for years and was really disappointed when they came out with the 39. When I saw the San Martin in SS I liked it but kept waiting for the Ti version and grabbed one with the date as it should be.
    I’ve been equally impressed with a list of negatives that’s opposite yours.
    My case had sharp edges everywhere, the bezel action was gritty and not consistent, the crown is still a gritty mess and the bracelet is a bit gangly.
    I’ve since softened the edges so they are pretty good now. I played with the bezel a fair bit and doing so while drenching it in the shower did wonders, it’s now great. The last time I checked accurately it was within 2 seconds a day and it’s currently about 10 seconds out since Sunday.
    I wear mine every day and think it’s fantastic.
    And if you want a smaller Tudor pelogos, the new fxd is great. I was surprised how nice it is but i would miss the date.

    • @LumePip
      @LumePip  9 месяцев назад +3

      Ah, that’s really interesting! I was honestly really surprised by how smooth this was, because I’ve had similar experiences to yourself with previous models so expected the same this time. But some great accuracy on that! I think more consistent QC is a must going forward. I worry the popularity and ubiquity of the brand on Ali etc has effected the QC - larger batches and oversights etc. It’s pure conjecture from me, obviously, and I don’t know, but just a thought for why it’s not as consistent (or doesn’t seem to be) as before… 🤔

      Got mine today. It’s so sharp and feel like a toy. These affiliate reviewers get out of hand. Jeez what a waste of money

    • @LumePip
      @LumePip  7 месяцев назад +1

      Honestly, it seems like pot luck, and as I said above, it seems like the popularity could negatively impact QC given they're producing them in larger quantities (or seem to be). I bought mine with my own money, and not in any sale either, so it's not like I haven't actually bought it. What's more, I'd always encourage anybody to use wherever is best for them to buy from, and only point to my affiliate link as an option because obviously it helps me offset my own investment, and that extends to buying watches to review that have no affiliate links. I'm not an affiliate reviewer. I'm a reviewer. I point out what's good and what's bad in the interests of making some tiny impact on the overall quality of the watches I review. @@sjorsrombouts2080

    Great video, nice watch, I own the same but in stainless steel. I bought it about three months ago and I already bought 3 more San Martins. Strange most non COSC watches always seemed to run + / - 10 secs . I’ve had several Sellita 200 watches run at that rate from Sinn and CW. That said some AliExpress watch makers seem to be able to get incredibly good running times from theses modest movements. I have the Blue version and it runs -8 per day . The finish for a titanium watch is very high by any standards and the anti reflective seems better than your version. All in all probably one of the best AliExpress watches ever made.

    The Grade5 titanium 300m WR subby homage looks interesting too, with the on the fly adjustable clasp and the helium escape valve. 13.2mm thick though... wish they didn't bother with the helium escape valve and just make a thinner watch. PT5000 should allow these to be at or slightly under 12mm.

    • @harkonen1000000

      PT5000 makes the case thinner, but it also makes the crown stick out under the case.

  • @1SaG
    @1SaG 5 месяцев назад +2

    This thing really, really needs a 4Hz movement. I can see why they would go "NH35-only" for the steel-version of this watch, but if you're going to make a titanium model, you might as well throw in a PT5000 or even an SW200. And it's not just the smoother sweep, it's also the general feel of both the PT and SW that's so much nicer than what the Seiko movement has to offer. Based on my very small sample size of one, I would *always* recommend the PT over a Seiko if you get the option. It runs great and it feels just as nice to interact with as any SW200/ETA 2824 that I've ever handled.

    My SN0121 arrived last week, and I'm noticing around 6+ hours the minute hand starts to run slow, yet the seconds hand remains on-time. Within 24 hours the minute hand loses a full minute +/-. My other San Martin does not have this issue. Everything else is perfect tho, bezel perfectly aligned and turns beautifully... Going to be sending back for replacement / repair as it seems I got a lemon in the movement.

    I have a San Martin subby clone from a couple of years ago. I love it more today than when I first bought it. First of all, these are strap monsters. It looks terrific with a Bond NATO or a brown leather strap or the original stainless bracelet that came with the watch. Mine has a Seiko NH 34 and keeps good time even though it could be better. The power reserve is not great but that’s life with an automatic watch that competes with a dozen other watches for “wrist time.” I highly recommend these and I firmly believe they hold up very favorably compared with high end luxury watches and are a much better value.

    I also have this watch, I would be interested to hear your thoughts on the bracelet. I found mine to have quite bad tolerances between the links. The result is it’s quite jangly and is a bit of a hair puller. The bezel on mine had quite a rough and inconsistent resistance to begin with but has improved after using it a fair bit. The other cons you’ve mentioned are also true of mine (except the issue with the crystal)

    • @LumePip

      That’s really interesting! Honestly, I was surprised by the bracelet - because it’s been fine. I would say I was lucky in that I removed two links and got a perfect fit, so maybe bigger wristed people might want to request more links, but otherwise, I’ve been really happy with it. All the tolerances were good and other than the obvious lightness of the material (which I always initially think feels cheap!), it’s solid!

    Really considering getting it. Luxury watches are stupid. But I’m also kinda grinding my teeth from getting an homage 😖 But I’m going to grind them even harder from spending 5k. And what I’m desperately after is a titanium piece exactly like this. I would have gotten the Citizen Fujitsubo, but the lug to lug in the bracelet is not going to work for me
    However after watching the cons: I’m spoiled when it comes to good AR. I could look past that though. But what’s worse, is that I don’t think I could bear to take this to my watchmaker for regulation. Their sister shop (same chain different location) is a Tudor retailer 😅. The NH35 can be nice enough when regulated, but it’s a big risk out of the box. So yeah… But never say never.
    Do you (or anyone reading this) know another titanium watch (with great lume and an extension clasp) to consider?

    However… I think Tudor were right not to use the inner step on the face as 39 is small for a diver and it makes it feel more compact

      Yes, I agree with you on both!
      San Martin has actually released another model (SN0122) with the same 'simpler' chapter ring style as used on the Tudor Pelagos 39!

    I really wish san martin would offer bigger versions of their watches - 39mm is too feckin small for my wrist. Perhaps it's a good thing though because they would bankrupt me otherwise

  • @grimmer2005
    @grimmer2005 5 месяцев назад

    Yeah Tudors smaller variant look too different. They should have kept to the original design.
    I want the original 42mm design in a 39 or 40mm case. That would be perfect.
    San Martin apparantly understood this.

    • @LumePip
      @LumePip  9 месяцев назад

      I didn’t pay any tax or import duty at all, and never have on any SM watches, or any watches from Ali, actually. I had a problem with a Cronos watch I bought a while back - I had no issues getting this sent back and a replacement or refund was offered. I took the refund and the money arrived in my account pretty promptly. Obviously that’s not SM but it’s a Chinese Ali brand

    • @LumePip

      This is the titanium and I was impressed with the finishing given I’ve tried other titanium watches from bigger brands that haven’t been as well finished. But that being said, I’m now also considering the steel too 😅🤷🏼‍♂️

  • @Tom_H327
    @Tom_H327 8 месяцев назад

    I tried on a Tudor Pelagos and the 42mm was just a tad bit too small for my 7.5 inch wrist, and for 5k was not a good buy for me. Knowing that, there is no way I'd get any Pelagos homage unless they made it 43.
    But I will concede that SM is doing a great job. Just wish they made a few watches for us big guys.

    Automatic watches seem so inaccurate compared to Quartz. My Citizen Aqualand Promaster iconic certified dive watch JP20000-08e not only has a built in depth meter and alarms for time expired, max desired depth and too rapid ascent - it runs just 9 seconds fast PER YEAR. I synchronize it to atomic clock time once per year.
