Thanks to all who made this head to head to head possible! The Tudor is nice, and the movement is a belter, but you pay massively for the brand these days. If you are OK with a clomage, then these two have the looks for a fraction of the cash. But which one, if either, should you buy? Watch on! Cheers, Jody
The San Martin looks brilliant, I have to say that I always thought the tudor looks a bit out of proportion but the San Martin is absolutely stunning.
As a man for whom a $100 watch is a major expenditure, this video is right up my alley. :-) Thanks Jodi!
Why? Would it not have been just as good if Tudor were left out of it?
@@alfieakaronaldog Absolutely it would! But it wasn't :-) I havent seen a video of the SM vs. Tudor. You ok over there bud? You frothing a bit?
Budget for some double sided tape when the bezel falls off 😉
All joking and sarcasm aside. There are better ways to spend your $100 on a watch.
Stop trying to be something you are not, and make more effort to be the guy that can buy the Tudor.
If I can get it to you, you can have my ‘as new’ white dial Pagani
The San Martin’s plain oyster bracelet being reused on many of their watches isn’t a bad thing at all IMO. It’s the cleanest and best looking bracelet design and I would prefer it over rivets any day.
This video has everything:
-Two more watches than a normal single watch review
-average sized wrists
-pocket shots
-oxymorons (plastic tin)
-jazz music
-photocopiers set at .95
-lume shots
-Champaign vs opaline
-61 extra Pagani watches
-vestigial divers extensions
-tonal mismatches
-UGS
-Fairy tale references
-and Jody's famous "Helooooo"
Thank you
The Pagani has the best proportions for my tiny wrist so I would definitely go for that one. The price is an extra bonus, and the movement!
4:24 The subtle spritzes of comedy on this channel are just right up my alley. I love it. "Not chapagne, not, white, not ivory, but opaline, don't you know." 😂
I have the pagani version and it's amazing, love the Tudor but it's too thick.
I'd like the San Martin but not at 4xs the cost of the pagani
I'd be sorely tempted to the Tudor BB Pro, but not at 14+
Same. I could never get over the chunkiness of the black bay. I love their designs, I love the price point and everything else about Tudor, but I just can't wear that watch. Its just too odd a case shape (for me)
Great review! It’s amazing how well these homages do even when sitting next to the watch they are based on. When all 3 were first shown I thought the San Martin was the Tudor until I looked closer!
This video pushed me over the edge on the PD-1718, and I love it. Thanks for the nudge and the creative, comparative review.
Love the comparison video as always Jody. Would love to see some more like this, like the Tudor FXD vs the tactical frog homage or Tudor Ranger vs San Martin homage
I don't know if I've just not noticed it before but I found the background music really jarring throughout this video.
It's new. I'll turn it down a bit next time 😉
Love this style of comparison video. Very well done.
Great video as always Jody - thanks ! Have to say the music was a little annoying and distracting for me though 🙄
I totally agree, the music was very distracting!
But still great video!
I do agree with you guys. The background music isn't necessary at all.
Agree, the music was very distracting and completely unnecessary. Please no more!
+1, no more background music please!
I love this kind of video, really puts things into perspective and shows exactly where money gets you more and where it doesn’t. Thank you!
Nice comparison review Jody! San Martin is killin it lately, IMHO. I actually like the look of the San Martin more than the Tudor, it seemed the most proportionate. I think my 1st San Martin will be their SN012, "original cough HELM VANUATU cough design", which again, I like more than what it's homaging. I just purchased that MIDO OCEAN STAR GMT you reviewed a while back, so it might be a minute before I get that San Martin though lol. JOMW always top notch reviews!
That’s exactly the comparison I was interested to watch! Thanks❤️
I'd LOVE to see more of these vids Jody. With more top pricey watches and their tiered alternative homages. I think many others would too. Love your work mate 👍☺️🇦🇺
Thanks Jody and Mr X for this comparison review. 👍
Very nice comparison review Jody. The San Martin really impresses when it comes to lume, but I agree they dropped the ball on the bracelet.
Just lazy. Makes business sense but takes away from the watch eh?
@@JustOneMoreWatch It's not like they don't have any rivet style bracelets from other watches they could have used either. It just makes no sense 🤦♂️
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR Keep in mind, resizing the San Martin rivet style bracelet is a real pain! 😬
I hate the rivets myself so it's a massive improvement to me.
@@AlexanderB. That's true. But at least you only have to do it once though.
Jody, I really appreciate these kind of reviews. It is nice to see how the homages get to the original. Money is a resource that should be used wisely. That being said, I love the fact that there are the San Martin’s and Pagani Design’s out there. If you are not sure a Tudor would be for you, better to try the homage first and see. Also, I just can’t see paying over $1k for a watch. I appreciate how they are made and with my experience in metalworking I know what it takes. Just too hard for me to pull the trigger. A big thank you to Mr. X, San Martin Official Store and Trendy’s so you could make this happen.
maybe just buy ONE really nice watch.. I started in Longines, and that gave me a taste of what a premium or entry level luxury watch felt like. It is very satisfying and a noticable difference from the affordable sector. Having said that, it also makes you appreciate what you can get for $500. Take a look at the Longines Conquest line.. for $1225 you get a fine timepiece with heritage and prestige. In fact on Joma they like $900 if you're willing to put up with their shenanigans and wait however long (I dont suggest it).
@@robbiecleighmarks3088 I’ve have thought about it. I have quite a few Seiko’s and the dial work and the finishing are incredible. I just wish their QC was better when it comes to dial/hands/bezel alignment. You can spend $1500 on a Seiko and have misalignment.
I agree it's financially irresponsible to pay that much but I would go for the original Tudor instead of the knockoffs
i don't disagree in the slightest, however, i wish more people held this sentiment for clones/reps. The value on some clones is incredible. People have no issue buying crappier homage watches that try desperately to look like something else barring the logo. But the minute you mention love/interest for reps, people will typically be super dismissive and shit on you. It is rather mind boggling.
@@Megatraum504 I think the main reason is when owning something like an AP or Patek it communicates that you have wealth and having a fake means you do not possess the wealth you are trying to show off / fake
loved this video mate!
Good work!
Great video Jody! Love all you do. Just wanted to share few tips on adding music to your videos:
- Having too many songs in one video can be distracting for viewers, I would pick one or two and just loop them again and again. It helps with the continuity of the video.
- Really didn’t love the first two tracks, but the two bossa nova inspired tracks and the downtempo 5th track are really nice. I would definitely recommend looping these, and people will learn to love them.
- Definitely know as a creator the excitement of including music with your videos. All of the music in my videos are my own creations so I always hope people love them. That being said, I do think you cranked up the volume a tad too high in this one. I typically go minus 30dB on the main tracks, and closer to minus 15dB on my intro and outro music. I find that a good level most people accept. Try looping the two or three best songs and then lower the volume a bit and you’ll be golden.
All in all amazing comparison! I owned this BB Chrono previously and do consider it worth the money for what it’s offering as a column wheel chronograph. Please don’t take my comment as anything more than constructive criticism from someone who also loves to include music in their videos. Keep up the great work and cheers from Hong Kong! 🍻
Nice informative video Jody, thanks for your invaluable presentation. All the best for the future.
I personally like the diver extensions as my wrist size will change pending the weather. It’s just slight enough that an extension allows a looser fit in hotter weather without messing with links
Ace review Jody, 👌 keep the good work going mate.
Excellent work! Thank you so much!
GREAT video! It's really nice to see these brands and homages compared to each other, "head to head to head"! (However, you could drop the background muzak, though…) 😉
Your comparisons are awesome as usual.
This is crazy timing! I’ve just been looking into the San Martin vs Pagani. Cheers Jodi
Funny thing is, I use the diver extension on my PD Chrono all the time while wearing the watch at work. It is just enough to relax the watch when my wrist swells and then I lock it in after work. I use the micro adjustment for fitment through the year but on almost a regular, I am popping my extension open and close.
Another cracking video… but what with elevator music? It gave me flashbacks of being dragged around Meadowhall Christmas shopping
I used to work in a mall in Edinburgh.....
Gracias por el vídeo! Muy bueno
Very interesting comparison. Nice to be able to get hands on with that Tudor.
Nice to see this comparison...always a massive fan of how much PD fit in for the price.
UGS I'm told stands Upgrade Grand Series 🙄
Jody brilliant video. I really enjoyed the head to head to head. Well done
Hey there Jody, I have to leave a bit of feedback. I watched this review on a smart TV using its own speakers and I've got to say the music was more distracting than anything else. Sometimes your words blended with the music and I couldn't hear what you were saying. Despite all that I was glad once again to get my JOMW fix.
Great review & comparison on all three watches!
Great review as always Jody. Shout out to Mr.X for the first class watch collection
Great comparison Jody. Not too sure about the 70s porno soundtrack though 😂. It's a real shame with that Tudor lume, they got it right with their BB58 so no reason to not get it as good on the chrono.
I like this concept. Nice video again. Thanks very much mate.
Went with the Pagani. Still wear the NH35 homages more often. Good review. Last San Martin I bought was a Sumo homage.
I think for all those complications (that most people would never use), a date would be the most useful thing. I realise most vintage watches don't include a date window but they are homages so should. Still have the Pagani Daytona which has ticked my cheap but expensive looking tachometer watch. The vk63 seems good too. those better quality Pagani riveted bracelets and clasps are great.
Love this format of video. Seeing the original watch next to your favorite homage pick always ends up with me having less money in my account…
Hey Jody. I was just explaining the concept of homages to a young family member and now I realize I should have just sent him the link to your video. Well done mate
I have this SM on my wrist at the moment. I agreed with everything you said. It’s my first SM and my first ST movement so I don’t mind the manual hand winding and the bracelet.
Please do this more often!
I like the San Martin bracelet!!! Quality and Finish is stunning. Awesome video. Cheers.
I bought the Pagani but with black dial several months ago Jody. Today I was looking at the Tudor site, looked at the the BB chrono & moved on!😱😂 What I did buy was the Tudor 1926, 39mm with yep, the OPALINE dial!😂 I have enough Pagani chrono’s!🤭👍🏻😎
I took delivery of the Pagani just yesterday. Nice watch, nice bracelet and I don't mind the diver's extension. Between us the wife and I have 4 early 2000 Tag Heuers and all of them have the identical design extensions. My major gripe is the bloody 24 hour sub-dial. By god I hate those bloody things. VK64 are endlessly configurable, Pagani really should have bought the one with running seconds.
I have a few Pagani Fauxmegas and Faulexes and although totally unoriginal, they are pretty good for the price and they scratch the itch. Especially when it’s your videos that cause the itch in the first place! Keep up the great work.
You’re not alone sir, Sub, Batman, James B and lastly a Moonwatch.
All great to wear, able to do boat work without worrying that I’m going to clonk the price of a 150hp outboard on my wrist. You can’t go wrong with a Pagani.
Appreciate the review, love the idea of the 3 way matchup. Not a fan of the background music though.
Nice comparison Jody! After watching this video I think I would pull the trigger for San Martin (Tudor is of course out of my range :D), though dimensions on Pagani are better for my not so large wrist.
Very nice comparative, congrats!
I really enjoyed this video brother 👏
I looked the comparison. Thanks for the vid.
Awesome comparison 👌🏻 , the music threw me off a little bit though
Hello mate! Good to see you. Always a weekend highlight! 🤠
Thanks for watching Oliver!
I have a Heritage Black Bay with the rivets and they don't bother me at all. I really like the bracelet. Kudos to Pagani for including them. That caught me by surprise I must say 😁❤
Full marks to Pagani. The diver's extension does not bother me but why did they not go with the date complication. Thanks for the entertainment Jody it is a definite cheer up today.
I didn't realize San Martin now used the seagull movements! Massive game changer for me, as I passed on their chronographs as the movement was meqaquartz.
More of these please! How about:
- Rolex Daytona vs. Sugess automatic chronograph vs. PD-1644.
- Omega Speedmaster vs. Phylida Speedy homage vs. PD-1701 v3.
- Omega Seamster NTTD vs. Heimdallr Sea Ghost vs. PD-1667 (and/or any of about a dozen others).
Good review Jody, just bought the Pagani, on the strap from your link, thought the watch good value at that price, Cheers.
The Pagani extra extension would save me a bracelet replacement, therefore I LIKE it!!! Great review and comparison of these watches. I think I’m going to save up and buy the San Martin. It looks to be the Best Buy if the bunch.
Great video and nice to see all three together. Is it just me though, does the Tudor bracelet look mismatched? Looks like the finishing/colour is different? Looks a bit like it's come from a different watch?
need your review on Seiko sub brands like Alba/Loris. they have some great under 100 USD divers which can be a good alternative for someone looking for a cheaper seiko
I love that bloody diver's extension......😂. And correct me if I'm wrong, Jody, but I believe that Pagani may have "phoned-in" that case. I think they may have borrowed that case, from the PD-1692 line to cut costs, as it is the same dimensionally speaking, and changed the finishing, and added the holes for the chrono-pushers. To me at least, it appears to be a standard "oyster case." Also, pro-tip, U.G.S., stands for "Upgraded Grand Series". Although, I still don't know what the bloody he11, "PT Time" stands for😅. SMH....God love 'em. Thanks for the laugh, Jody, and very well done. Cheers....
Love my BB Chrono on leather, def a big watch but great for short sleeve, casual days
Great video. Thank you 🙏
Music is well good. Great vid as always.
I almost bought the SM, but the Sugess Zenith withthe ST19 caught my eye and it's a ton cheaper. Would love to see a review. As for these the SM offers a great package but the BB is so hot I would worry about someone noticing it. With the Z homage no ones ever heard of them🤣 Not non watch people anyway. A fasinating comparison, thanks J.
I bought the seagull panda a few months ago from Ali express. I agree, they do a great job and I grab it quite often.
I think the hands are slender to make de sundials more visible, it is a chrono after all. Thanks for the excellent comparison by the way. Cheers
Just on looks, I really like the San Martin. Nice video mate
I love love LOVE this music! Please use it or more like it in future videos!
Just got back this morning from Switzerland.
My god,it’s amazing.
And I got an email while I was away to say my blueberry Seiko was being shipped to me Monday.
Plus came home with a mission to mars too.
The missus will go garrity 😂
5
Joint 50th coming up later this year and myself and friend gave ourselves £100 for a homage on Ali express.
I opted for the Batman pagani and personally want to keep it to myself (it’s amazing)
Hope all’s well
Keep up the great work Jody 👍🏻
Awesome review!
Great format Jodi, I have the PD, looked at both the Tudor and the SM... Better lume and the PD would be sure fire
At first glance my pick would be the San Martin with the ST19 movement. I know it's an old movement but for the price it can't be beat. My problem though, with the naked eye this is a beautiful movement and I want to see it. Without a display back it's a deal breaker for me.
St19 is not the only mechanical choni option under $500. I just picked up a Detroit Mint Mechanic for $400 that uses a valjoux 7750 clone. It has a 2 year warrantee as well.
Really appreciate the review! Been looking at this Pagani. Seems like one of their best watches so far.
Interesting how the VK64 beats the more expensive movements without any real drawbacks.
I picked up the same Tudor only 3 months old for $3,000 USD. I had the Pagani first and then the Tudor came up and I had the funds and pulled the trigger. Don’t regret it got a hell of a watch for a hell of a price.
The beautifully high polished sides of the Tudor scratch like nobody's business. My 8mth old BB41 looks like I use a cement mixer as a watch winder
Bought the Pagani when first released, is one of my favourite watches. I'm fine with it being meca-quartz.
I love the under 40 size of the Pagani. Nice review!
Hi Jody, for me, a SM without the exagerated green lume and a mecca-quartz at ca. $200 would be the pick! Regards
Great video. Well done San Martin 👏 I'm sure they'll make some changes for a v2
I could not believe the cost of the Pagani Design from the last sale. It took weeks to arrive, but my wife took it as soon as I opened it! She loves this watch. I have to admit, for the money, it’s a solid watch. The adjustment of the clasp can be dumb. But, hard to be pissed with a $100 / or less watch.
UGS I believe stands for Upgraded Grand Series, i.e. a premium pagani.
haha not with that lume it isn't
Hi Jody, which watch do you wear in the intro, please ? Super video ;)
Great comparison video, Jody. I'm not actually a fan of the panda style, but wanted to see where you would go in terms of comparing the SM and the PD. I have a few PD's now, ( all thanks to JOMW) and this just confirms why. I like to chop and change my watches, and the PDs get a fair bit of wrist time. I am poised to get the PD Speedmaster Moonwatch homage, love their watches, and they are plenty good enough for me as regular options. 👍
LOL! This is the first time I'm hearing elevator music in the background. Great video Jody Cheers mate 🍻
Tudor and Oris are kinda killing it as far as luxury watches go. That Propilot X from Oris is amazing, and Tudor does everything well
The 70’s background music was for me right ! So on brand ☺️☺️☺️🦄🦄🦄
The quality feel (having tried the Tudor), is street's ahead of course, but then you pay for quality. The Pagani gets my vote over the SM, they've made more of an effort on looks, but the Pagani clasp as usual, just falls short. But I'd still buy one.
I remember bringing a couple of Nordsee sandwiches on to a flight a few years ago ... best airline food I had 😁
... although my brother could have klld me ... rollmops (pickled herring with onion on a roll) and lax (salmon) with egg on a roll were not up his alley. So I feel you Mr. X.
I’d like to take a Seiko solar speedtimer movement and dial, and install them in a Tudor or Daytona inspired case. Thus providing screw down crown and pushers for the solar speedtimer.
Not sure about the background music Jody! At one point I thought I was in a lift. Great channel though, love it!!
I have the San Martin. I just adore mechanical chronographs.
Yes the ST19 is 70 year old technology yet Omega still make a hand wind chronograph.
A quartz watch is just a container to store dead batteries.
Did you make this in a lift? Background music is really distracting!
I don’t know how San Martin do that for the price
Great video Jody 👍
You highlighted my biggest complaint about Tudors. My Black Bay GMT is amazing but the lume is,as you say, underwhelming. Still love it though...Cheers!
The diver's extension is useful for those who retain a lot of water after indulging in alcohol! 🤪
