  • Revewing the Hook Strap by Nick Mankey Designs. Its a cool take on a hook designed strap, that's ultra flexible, breathable, and can be designed how you like it. This could be one of the best watch straps out there, especially for the price.

Thank you for such a glowing review! You bring up a great point in comparing the flexibility of our elastic versus the MN and other Nato straps. Appreciate the visual there! And very happy to see you're enjoying the Hook Straps :) Cheers!

What’s the best way to clean these if they get dirty from sweat and what not?

The hardware is zinc coated? That's going to be a no from me then. Pity they went cheap on the hardware, because it looks like a good strap otherwise.

Youre tougher than zinc huh? That's awesome

@@KellenTheTime I may not be tougher than zinc, but zinc plating (aka galvanizing) is an industrial coating, and is totally unsuitable for wristwatch hardware.
Zinc is extremely soft, and will wear through very fast, exposing the steel beneath. It also tarnishes very rapidly in air and looks horrible.
The only reason to use it over stainless steel, or indeed other types of plating over carbon steel, is to save money.
It is cheap in price and cheap in quality.

And would my watch drop if I lose a spring bar? That's the main reason I wear nato.

    • @KellenTheTime

The strap would come off with the watch still attached. But in all the years i've worn a watch I've never had a spring bar fail.

The stretchyness protects the spring bars from excessive stress. If anything this is the safest strap for spring bars. Really a non issue

That strap they use elastic like those of camping headlamps & they don't last long enough as you would want it. It means you will have to keep buying new straps & endup spending alot more than if you use a NATO strap.

  • @chaosengine3772

The stretchy material this strap is made of is common. The elastic filaments will breakdown and degrade in time and lose elasticity. Even when not in use.
If you are active and frequent challenging environments, elastic fabric bands, open hooked buckles (along with velcro) are a no go. I use NATO/ZULU bands. If not for the security of the retaining system, I would have lost my watch. My NATO and ZULU bands are just as comfortable, breathable, soft than this band. With none of the downsides.

Thousands of words and 10 min. You never showed us how you take the watch on and off. Do you unhook it or just stretch the band to remove the watch.

@@KellenTheTime I just painfully watched the video again. At 4:24 you start to slide your wrist in and then say "Im not going to do it" I guess that you must lay the watch down on something and flip your wrist over and hook the strap? You did not show this maneuver.

Wont work with the Apple Watch, the back of the watch needs to contact the skin. Thanks for the review.
