    Elastic watch straps and bands seem to be the rage these days, with brands like Erika's Originals, the Watch Steward and others coming out with different takes. Today we look at Luff Watch strap's offering, and the first opportunity I've had to try out this new style of strap. It's the most comfortable strap I've ever worn.

    That loosening of the strap over time throughout the day and the buckle hitting the watch when loosening the strap are deal breakers for me. I stopped using my Islander elastic strap for precisely that reason. My Erika MN straps are engineered in such a way that the buckle never comes close to hitting the watch when loosening even when removing the watch in a hurry. They may be more expensive, but they are worth the dough and are extremely high quality.

    • @uhmerrykan

      But does Erica's make a strap that doesn't pass under the watch? Increasing the watch's height is a deal breaker for me.

      I’ve tried hers before and they slip as much as the CNS bands, unless she changed something recently, the only difference between them are the quality of elastic. But I still can’t see paying. $100 for that.

    I have a couple of these straps and they work well for lighter weight watches but not for watches with a bit of heft to them. The heavier watch will pull on the adjustment buckle and the strap will loosen throughout the day. I have abandoned these straps altogether for my heavier watches. Thank you for the nice review!

    • @JusttheWatch
      @JusttheWatch  4 года назад +3

      I actually like them a lot for heavier watches, in spite of the way they tend to work themselves lose. It doesn't really bother me to readjust the strap a few times throughout the day, as when it is secured well it makes large watches much more comfortable than any other strap I've tried.

      @JusttheWatch  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks! I love looking at straps, almost as much as looking at watches. I might have to look into picking a rally strap for the Brycen. I actually like the look of the stock strap but it's not that comfortable and the leather feels kind of cheap.

    • @Tzazilas
      @Tzazilas 5 лет назад

      @@JusttheWatch Same too, I love straps! And when I'm thinking about purchasing a new watch, I always consider creating a combo with a different strap than of these I already have (color, style etc). Finwatchstraps (Etsy shop) should be your next stop for straps. Really really premium and well-priced goodies. My brycen's strap was a light brown perforated cheaply made strap and I replace it right away. By my experience, 95% of default watch straps have to be replaced, even on higher end brands. This is so sad!

    • @JusttheWatch
      @JusttheWatch  5 лет назад +2

      @@Tzazilas same here, I have very few watches that I keep on the stock strap. But sometimes I'll put the stock strap I discarded from one watch onto a different one and suddenly find that I like the stock strap after all, just not with the watch it came with...

    Try the watch steward version they have tighter hardware so they do not loosen up at all but I find that another negative is that the metal of the hardware comes in direct contact withe the top surfaces (visible) of the watch head when you put the watch on or take it off.

Bought another brand from Amazon, for the life of me couldn't figure out till I watched your video. Thank you. Still might opt for the Lux for my Monster. Happy enough with the NATO that Seagull provided, and might want to go with a traditional leather strap. Ordered two straps in 20mm, green with red and green with yellow from Luff. Got their through your link, I hope you get some kind of credit for providing the information and sale. Will try these and go from there. This looks amazing. I have a 7.5 inch wrist, which is pretty average, but it must be a weird shape, because any watch on a stiff leather strap, or even a bracelet if it doesn't fit perfectly, winds up sliding around so it's on the side or even the bottom of my wrist.
    These aren't as elegant looking as leather, but it would be great to have the watch stay where I want it without being so tight that it leaves marks on my wrist.

  • @ivotouart
    @ivotouart 4 года назад

    Amazing.. I was just thinking I need to get this for my Bradner and then you up and fit it on one! It's a lovely watch but it is a little too thick for the leather strap - tends to wobble around and try to slide off to one side of the wrist, really drives me nuts.

  • @resjon7981

    Interesting. I picked up some inexpensive Chinese variants and they install completely differently. They are pretty comfy though. I'm concerned how long they will hold up with heavy wear given elastics propensity to lose its stretchiness over time. Especially true when used in high heat and moist environments.

      The big difference between the cheap knockoff ones and the Watchsteward, Erica's and probably these Luff straps is the quality of the elastic material. Watchsteward certainly say their toughest straps, the original nylon, are fine for salt water.

    the material of this strap is great. i personaly like the "ericas original style" marine national straps more, because they give you the extra security. because these kinds of straps are made so sit a bit more tight on your wrist, there is no problem with the minimal extra bulk on the watch. only problem with a lot of these marine national style straps are, that there with is for the most companys are realy loose.. if buyed 22mm straps witch are more 20mm, 20mm straps witch are closer to 21 and 20mms straps witch are deffenetly 18mm with.. but the comfort is great. maybee in a hot summerday, the realy tight fit and the nylon material can be a bit sweaty. but i realy like, that these type of straps becomes more and more a staple in the watch comunity, that makes them maybee a bit easyier accesable in europa

    • @noobfl
      @noobfl 4 года назад

      PS: if you wear the strap a bit tighter als you normaly would and if the buckle is over the radius, the "buckle" is very secure, because then, if your wrist rubs, maybee on a table, you push only the lower part of the hook while the uper part hook stays secure. also, if you wear the "buckle" over your radius, its less likle, that he will loosen up over the day

      I think all these different straps designs have tradeoffs. I like the security of a NATO but on tall watches I dont like the added height of the strap passing under the watch. But one thing about these elastic straps is that they put less pressure in spring bars. If the watch gets caught the band will stretch quite a bit, making it a lot less likely for a spring bar to pop.

      They are only fiddly if you bother to hook and unhook the strap like Dave shows it. First thing I do with my elastic straps is to fit the hook to the adjuster and then squeeze the hook shut with a pair of pliers, it makes for a slightly tighter fit when I stick my hand through the loop to put the watch on or take it off, but the strap is elastic so no biggie. It also takes care of the downsides Dave mentions, no way the hook comes undone once it's squeezed close and no chance of it hitting the crystal.
