  • On this episode we check out two AWESOME new releases from Erika's Originals MN Straps. These Marine National parachute braid band inspired straps are a further evolution on an iconic design, both in a functional and aesthetic sense. I've always hoped for a blue and or grey option and Erika has now released both in these two lines. The Mirage offers a medium tone grey option, while the Trident offers a deep Navy Blue strap. These are some of my favorite color pallets, so I'm really loving these newest additions to Erika's wonderful line of MN Straps. Let me know what you think in the comments below, thanks guys!

    Another great review, thanks. I've had one of her olive straps for several months and it's a great alternative to a typical nato: comfy, easily adjustable and good quality, despite the price.

    I really like the Erika's Original MN Straps I've had... which happen to also be 1 in Trident and 1 in the Mirage. Great stuff for custom made high-quality MN style straps.
    Only 2 gripes are:
    1) It's a closed loop system, so you have to remove 2 spring bars, place the strap onto watch, then install the 2 spring bars while holdling the strap to the watch case to lock it all down. A bit of a pain in the ass if I'm being honest and less convenient than traditional nato and zulu straps that can just pass through the spring bars without removal.. it matters to guys like me who do a lot of frequent strap changes on strap monster watches. But, I was willing to put up with it.
    However, as i understand it, Erika can make custom straps that can be opened.. for those watches, mostly vintage, that are either welded shut or simply have a solid not removable bar (no spring, so can't call it spring bar). IDK.. I forget how it works, but assume there's a snap button or something that can be released to open the strap system to allow it to be attached to fixed lug attachment systems. She may want to consider making that option more readily available for those who may value a bit more convenience over ultimate security for attaching the strap to a watch.
    2) The buckle/claps is secure, but it does take some practice and a self-developed technique to attach the buckle/clasp when securing the watch and all to the wrist. You really do need a certain amount of finger dexterity and at least some bit of nail at the end of your fingers to do this.. and possibly less uh "generously proportioned" digits to be able to manipulate the buckle/clasp into secure position.
    Other than that, it's a great custom fit and decorated option from Erika's Originals which are pricey, but ultimately worth it if you really enjoy such style and custom fit and finish options for one or more of your beloved timepieces.

    Great Review! I have 3 of her MN Straps one of them is the Original Parachute cord which is softer feeling , very comfy indeed

    Great review for a great product.
    by the way the divers are called NDC: Nageur de combat (which translates to combat diver ... or combat swimmer, actually)
    IMHO the most iconic combination would be a Tudor Submariner with one of those straps, of course because the Tudor Subs were issued to the NDC ;-)

    Nice review. These are my favourite fabric style straps. Much better fit for me than any nato.

    These straps seem like a dream come true, but I'll see how well it holds up to the humidity here in the Lowcountry

    She has some great straps, Iiked the green with yellow stripe one so much I bought two more, I got the limited orange one goes great on my orange monster almost like it was meant for that watch and got the lumed strap for the new zelos swordfish I have coming in soon.

    Just bought one of these for my Breitling Skyracer, which has a very unorthodox strap-fitting. This one works fine. I chose the red-stripe version as the watch dial has red highlights here and there. It would be nice in future if she released one with black PVD furniture, only because it would suit my watch better!

    Thanks for the video which was helpful in making my decision. I was going for a Trident to match with my BB58 blue dial but honestly thought the Trident was dark grey. Even when you go to buy one, the drop down menu describes it as dark grey! The lighter grey Mirage looks a great option for my BB58 too.

    I have tons of regular NATO's, but recently I decided to try these, and I'm Not looking back. Super comfy, sporty, classy enough, and you really can make them wet! Pricey, I must admit, and by now there are admittedly some really good alternatives at more democratic pricepoints that offer practically the same feel. Can't yet tell how they'll hold up to some abuse over a longer term, but we'll see...

    the problem with the design of these is that if you have a medium to small wrist the hook comes around too close to the watch case, thus you don't get the clean look you would get on a bigger wrist. Only works for bigger wrists

    • @AverageBros
      @AverageBros  5 лет назад +3

      When you order, you tell Erika your wrist size and she custom tailors them, unlike some of the newer brand iterations of this design

    So first it was used by the divers, then it IS used by the parachute corps. In the next video it will be used by the French Military Postal Workers.

    • @AverageBros
      @AverageBros  5 лет назад +1

      The tighter you adjust the more secure, as long as you have any kind of stretch to secure, that buckle isn't coming undone without direct effort

      Just received mine, ordered 2 weeks ago at 50€. I guess i'm lucke cause the price is now 75€ ! And sorry to say it, but I'm not as amazed by the quality as I expected from all the review I've read on the internet. For the same price, I've got 3 BluShark nato straps of an amazing quality.
      tl;dr : nice but far to expensive for what it is. A good price would be 25-30€ maximum (same as a good quality nato, which IMO takes as much time to make).
