On the Wrist, from off the Cuff: Erika's Originals - MN "Marine Nationale" Straps

  • On this episode we review a strap that's been hugely popular among vintage watch aficionados for quite some time now, but so much so that as of late their popularity has really gone mainstream, with even OEM's coming out with their own version of the classic military style strap for more recent retro inspired releases. We're of course talking about the Marine Nationale strap, in particular, the MN straps from brand Erika's Originals. It's really a new and improved take on a true classic. I give my hands on take on both the Original MN strap and the their newly released Black Ops MN strap. Let me know what you think in the comments below, thanks guys!

I whacked my Seiko SRP307 on the olive strap. looks great and SUPER comfortable. more comfortable than a nato & doesn't have that silly nato bulge where you have to fold over the excess strap. Erika was great to deal with too. delivery to AUS took 3 weeks which I thought was a bit slow. but I can't emphasise how comfortable it is. I wear mine when i'm trekking through forests & you don't even know it's on! And great vid as usual mate!

Since these straps flex: should I buy them oversize (e.g. a 19 mm for 18 mm lug size) to avoid a gap between strap and lug? I like my watches sitting tight on my wrist....

Overpriced and start fraying with heavy use. Somehow the watch-forums love them.

Agree. There are slip on elastic bands that don’t have the hook/buckle from Amazon for around $30 Aus. Been wearing it everywhere for a few weeks and it did not loosen and feels great. I’ll definitely be buying some different colours.

The same for me, I bought two! straps (Langley, aliexpress) for 15 € including shipping from China to Germany, good quality, no complaints. 75 $ for that is a real rip off - for what? A little bit of rubber fabric a few stamped sheet metal pieces, the purchase price of the manufacturer is $ 1 -max. $ 2!
      Regards from Berlin... ;-)

These are indeed great & imo live up to the hype & the price. If you do decide to buy one I suggest you measure the circumference of your wrist first w/ a piece of string as Erika is going to ask you to do just that.

  • @Lex5576

I like the way that makes the watch set on the wrist. It's so much neater . It's not clumsy and fat looking like a NATO, with all that extra, unnecessary length tucked around. I've just bought a Seiko Turtle, and this looks like the ideal mod for it.

    • @WristWatcher

I have two of these. The first one started to snag where it threads through that sliding keeper. The elastic has now gone very baggy and looks awful. Erica did kindly send me a new one but even that has started to snag....the keepers edges are very sharp on mine. Not impressed for the price tbh.

I have an almost identical knock-off version of that strap (green with red stripe). It's very comfy and fits the field watch aestethics of my Hamilton Khaki Auto. It was, however, about a fourth of the price of an EO. Fewer variants to choose from, clearly, but better value for the money.

I bought the original vintage MN strap instead of these remake overly hyped up elastic band you they use on your boxer underwear. I can't believe people actually buy them with the price she's asking. The vintage original are also $45 but they are limited in availability. Once they run out of stock they are gone forever so the $45 price is justified.
