    My beard grows so slowly that i knew i had to give it a full year of no trimming in order to get what I wanted. That was the first time I went over 2 months without shaving and the results were amazing!! I wish i had the stamina to do it again, I miss my beard, but having just the handlebar mustache is a style I’ve grown comfortable with. One day I’ll finally decide to grow out the beard again!

    I grew a silver/gray yeard two years ago. My wife was supportive. The comments from others were the biggest challenge.”You look younger without it. “Are you going to be a Santa Claus this year. “Hey Moses.””You are ruining the family photo.” What helped: hanging with beard guys, using product, - oil, wax, and a good brush, watching beard videos, and at the end getting my beard professionally trimmed and shaped. I eventually shaved and am thinking of growing it long again but with lines and mustache control.

    I'm 8 months into it. But I didn't realize it was a Yeard. I've just made the goal to grow it out for a full year. And technically it's not a pure Yeard as I am trimming my mustache (can't stand having it lower than my lip - haven't been able to master the art of eating and drinking with it that way), keeping lines clean, taming the sides, and trimming fly-aways. Loving the Beard Baron oils, by the way!

    yeah people feel free to critisize it because it's not conforming, i think for some guys it always looks good as it grows and for the rest of us its just about how you carry yourself while letting it grow. when people tell me to trim my beard i tell them hell no. ive had a yeard before and am making another now.

    Absolutely agree about people commenting on beards. I have had complete strangers stop me to say they like my beard/moustache. I have also had others tell me my "beard looks like sh*t!" - no joke, that was the actually comment from a stranger. On top of this we are our harshest critic. I have times when I want to quit (I am about 8 months or so in). I have had other times when I want to keep going. It certainly is not
    as easy as "just don't shave/cut. Thanks for there video. Great job as always.

Length has not been trimmed since that time. Cheek lines were established about 3 months ago. I plan to let the length go to the 3 year mark. BYW my beard is totally white.

      Same bro. I wish the rest of my beard grew as fast as my damn mustache lol. I can shave it off and it's almost back completely in a week. My Grandfather was born in 1908 and he use to rock a sweet looking waxed mustache chin beard combo. My Dad said he couldn't grow a full beard but I think he was like me and just never could leave it alone and let it grow lol. 2 weeks in on my yeard right now and I'm not touching it at all for 1 year....I can do this!! My Dad can grow a sweet beard and mine isn't patchy so I think there is hope for me growing one. Jus gotta tell myself it's probably gna look shitty until it grows out so I'm gna let it grow wild and free until it's the fullness and length I like and then I'm gna go get it professionally trimmed.

    Great video. So true. I'm not sure if I'm growing a yeard, because there have been a couple of moments where I have been maintaining the length, befoe I decided to go longer. But I assume my yeard would be somewhere if I would let it grow now until March. However there are so many moments where I've been thinking abbout trimming it back and there are so many people co-workers and others making comments about it. It's good to hear that I'm not the only one receiving those comments. Still not sure if I will keep growing untill march, but thanks for this great video.

    I've only done a Yeard once. Almost. I was two weeks away from completing the year and was visiting my sister in the Pacific Northwest who insisted on having some grilled chicken for dinner. Long story short, the BBQ wouldn't light for whatever reason, I closed the lid, let the gas build up a little, stuck one of those long lighters in an air vent, and next thing I knew, a massive fireball came straight at my face and my nose filled with the stench of torched hair. Lost my right eyelashes, eyebrow, half of my mustache, some hair around my temple, and most hurtfully a massive part of my ten inch beard. Was in denial for three or four days until I finally went and got an old school hot towel shave at the barber shop. That year of the beard taught me many things about myself and those around me, and is one of my most fondest experiences. Every time I apply Wildwood beard oil, the scent takes me back to one of my most favorite years I've ever lived. I of course promptly grew another beard, though nowadays I mostly stick to growing 6 month purist beards.

    40 year old here. Tried to grow a Yeard 4 times in last decade. Only made it to 2 month mark or less each time. I like your reflection on quick decisions to cut vs. giving it fair time to think it over. I use beard oil, but tend to get fearce itch phases after 6 weeks and it's brutal. All 4 times I (frustratingly) cut it off at night out of desperation cutting into my sleep. I'm 1 month in for the 5th time now. I have goals, I have 3 pictures posted on my bathroom mirror of what I want my beard to look like. I'm trying this again, so thank you for the tips. I'm going to hide my trimmers and put a not on the box their in to remind me to sleep on it. Any advice for a severe nightly itchy beard attack?

    I’m doing a yeard for 2021. I’m keeping my mustache short, and shaving my neck. I also have to create a line on my cheeks because it goes up in a triangle shape almost up to my eyes. It looks pretty badass so far. I’m torn between just keeping it this length (1 guard on mustache and 4 on bottom) or letting it keep growing. It makes me look older but I’ve been getting a lot of looks from younger chicks, especially at the gym. Thanks for saying the yeard police aren’t going to come knocking. I'm taking the purist path and am 6 months in. The most difficult part is accidentally eating my moustache. I have to comb my moustache out of the way before I eat. The most I've grown it in the past is 6 weeks and I have decent beard growing genes for my age of 24. When I was a teenager I would shave in the morning and have a 5 o'clock shadow.

    Contained within our DNA is the genetic coding to how our beards are meant to be and so often we let it grow to just passed stubble, go to the barbers and get some contrived shape chiselled in. This is sadly how many beards are lost. Because, after that point it’s even harder to take that next step and grow the trueness of beard. If only we could just let it do it’s thing, build a relationship with it whilst nurturing it’s growth, deliberating and taking time before making decisions, we can not only grow as beardsmen, but as individuals on a spiritual journey of self realisation.

    The best thing about shaving your beard is that you can grow it back. I always thought the Yeard to be more about discipline and self-control rather than style. It's like going on a diet. You have to stick to the plan. Sure you can create lines and trim the sideburns, much like you can allow yourself one day a week to binge fats and sugars. In the end it's about commitment and following through a plan. Though I think the parameters of the plan should be thought out in the beginning if discipline and self-control is the goal. Example: maybe your goal is a Yeard and you can trim the sideburns and mustache but nothing else. But If you go to a barber after six months to get a proper trimming and shaping of your beard then your plan can be considered a failure. It's not a bad thing, though. Maybe it teaches you something about yourself and decision making. Strictly speaking, there is no secret about growing a Yeard or losing weight. Just stick to the plan you set out from the beginning.

    • @thebeardbaron
      @thebeardbaron  4 года назад

      I definitely agree with you Stefan! It's all about that self control/discipline when it comes to not touching your beard and growing a true yeard!

    I don't expect many will be negative, but I'm not going to let anyone who is get me down. The simple fact is I haven't felt this positive about my appearance since the last time I was a gym regular and had my weight under control. If I can get back into that routine, as well as the beard maintenance, I reckon it'll be the highest my self-esteem has been since I was a teenager.

      Hi Alex, its great to hear from you! Growing a true yeard will present some challenges of split ends, however it's more about the fun and idea of growing a "yeard" than the trimmed, polished look. If looking to maintain a long beard, I don't recommend a true yeard. I personally keep my beard long while shaping and maintaining it every few weeks!

    Me having a large beard for about 5 years of continuous growth (with light trimming here and there when I feel necessary.)
    i get a bunch of comments i.e you need to shave, you need to trim it down, it looks ugly. etc. Well guess what.. it's my face, my beard, and my choice. I don't care what people think and it's definitely not gonna make me change my mind, because I always brush it off because I couldn't care less about what people think about me, my beard, or anything for that matter. So I was wondering what are some things I can tell the people that say those comments... something along the lines of FUCK OFF!

      Strangers making bad comments about the beard is the worst. Just maintain the mindset that it is your beard and other peoples opinions are none of your business

      You need to see that you are going to get two strong responses. One bad. Whatever. But the good side is bad ass. I got so many stores to not close because my beard was great. Special privileges for my beard! Even if no one says anything, you'll get good responses that you wouldn't have without the beard. Some people are just mean spirited. They enjoy making people feel bad about anything, not just beards. Ignore them. It's the only way to beat them at their own game.

    I have done my yeard, but I kept my lines cleaned up and got rid of any split ends if I ended up getting any. Loved the journey. Was great fun. I grew it till my 3rd button on a button up shirts now I keep the length just above my collar bone so my neck is covered haha. Will definitely grow the longer length again when I start getting some greys. Great video as always. Take care.

      Hi Justin, thank you for sharing! The collar bone length is an awesome one, I usually keep my beard around the same. Thank you again for watching! I always appreciate your comments and feedback! :)

    I think it's worth specifying the word "shaping". I would agree that you don't want to "shape" your yeard with any sort of blade.
    However, I would ABSOLUTELY "shape" it with a brush/comb and/or hair dryer! That is, unless you want to look like a nasty hobo (which will naturally draw a LOT more criticism from others), lol 😅.

    How do I wash my face with soap when I have a beard

    • @captainlovett4724
      @captainlovett4724 4 года назад +1

      Get some beard wash from the beard baron website and really work it in with your fingertips. I’d refrain from using anything but beard care products on the beard itself so just wash the face above the beard with your regular soap.

    • @thebeardbaron
      @thebeardbaron  4 года назад +1

      The Captain is right! :) I recommend using a beard wash, that is specifically formulated to be used on your face!

    The closest I got to a yeard was I believe 46 weeks. I know soooo close, but also my gf really didn't like it at that length. That did come with two maintenance trims along the way and regular lining up of the cheek and neck line. So not exactly a PURE Yeard but it was fun. I would probably grow a tweard if there wasn't anyone it bothered :P
