  • Do you feel that you have a patchy beard and are unsure whether to grow one? So did I, but I decided to grow a beard anyway and it has been one of the best things I have done.
    In this video (my first ever RUclips Video) I discuss my Journey giving tips and advice and hopefully offering motivation for those who have doubts.
    This is the beginning of a bigger project but wanted to do a pilot RUclips video to become familiar with the process of creating a video. It is clear I have a long way to go, but I thought rather than perfect this video I should just get it out there, in the hope that I can improve as I go.
    I did this because I would just keep procrastinating and never have published this video. Lots went wrong, my sound did not record on my recorder (thankfully the Camera mic was better than anticipated), my editing was dodgy but in many ways I do not want my videos to be perfect, I am generally a chaotic soul, and feel that this should be somewhat reflected in my videos.
    I chose to focus on my beard journey, however the future project will extend to my general Journey to try and do good in the world despite my mediocrity, despite my chaos. I believe that If someone so mundane, average and unspectacular can do good, then we all can.
    I hope that when I do begin this project, a revolution of sorts, people will help me along the way. I wont give too much away at this point, but the REVOLUTION will be focused on FEAR (including philosophical discussion and exploration on this subject)
    For those who are interested I used a Panasonic G7 with the G Vario 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH lens.
    Thank you for watching. I am genuinely really grateful.
    if you want to be there for this ambitious journey please do subscribe and look out for more sometime later in the year.
    If would like to support the future project you can donate at:
    ko-fi.com/revfe...
    Any donation, however small is received with genuine thanks.

    Dude. I’m a 3 months into a fairly patchy beard. I watch this video probably once a month. I love it. It’s corny to say but it’s pretty inspirational. Growing a beard especially if it’s not the “Mercedes Benz “ of beards ain’t always easy. Very much appreciate what you’ve done and I want to thank you. Never posted on RUclips or anywhere for that matter. Thanks brother ✊🏻

      3 months is good going my friend, 2 months more and you will really know what you are working with! I really do appreciate your feedback, it really means a lot...and I prefer corny to be honest, so many hide behind a thin veil of stoicism and feigned strength, so it is great to be authentic. Keep going and let me know how it goes!

    I can see the patchiness. My beard is just as patchy in the same spots. I was really surprised at how self conscious I was about it. Figured more people would be complimentary and supportive. I've learned how important diet is, how I sleep, how much trimming I shouldn't do, and how much I shouldn't touch it! Just let it go! It's been a very positive experience.

    My moustache has so far changed shape twice in the first 3 months. The right side sat weird for the first 2 months, then it sat like the left did for the first 2 months. Then the left side did the opposite, and is now sitting like the right did. I know the beard grows out and kinks in different ways as it gets longer, and I know it will also sort itself out as it gets longer. It's annoying that it's swapped in it's unevenness, however patience is a virtue, and I know the end result will be glorious.

    • @revfearolution
      @revfearolution  3 года назад +2

      The moustache is a very satisfying feature of the beard in my view, but I am definitely hearing what you say about the frustrations...you are right about patience... perseverance is the key, and also making sure you train it throughout the day when it gets to a good length...using wax in the morning...good luck bud, and keep me updated 👍

    Best beard video. I'm starting month 3 today. Most videos tell you to wait a month which is to early. 3-6 months depending on your hair (ie, longer for curly hair). I've always cut it after 2 months and just assumed I couldn't grow one. Patience and time.

      Hey Mark, thanks for letting me in on your personal experience. I often wonder how many guys out there harbor such doubts like you and I. I imagine it is more than we think. As I'm getting older I am willing to take a risk and open myself up to ridicule, trying to remember that tomorrow may never come, so what does it matter if others look so judgementally on anything I do, anything I am?
      Well done for battling to your years. You should be all the more proud because of the challenges.

      Thanks bud, your beard looks strong from your pic, it will be an epic beard methinks. How long is that growth? and how long do you intend to grow it? I'm not even sure you could call your beard patchy. I often think that this "growth pattern" is reflecting your personal gene expression which is quite cool when you think about it...that a beard is a window into your very own genes.

  • @user-ob6th6yp8s
    @user-ob6th6yp8s Год назад +1

    I loved your story, and I felt very identified in some aspects.
    I will tell you my case, briefly.
    I let me grow a long beard, my wife didn't like it but it didn't stop me either, we have some personal limits and these are separate decisions, I like him for who he is, not for how he looks, and I firmly believe that he thinks the same, I would like it the same with a punk crest than with hair down to below the waist, which by the way is how she wears it.
    Everything went well at the beginning, I had my own company that started well but sadly and after the pandemic I had to end up closing...
    I'm still actively looking for a job, yes I've done some shifts and overtime where I can, but nothing really fixed.
    He once told me that it would be easier for me if I kept my beard trimmed... I told him that he simply doesn't understand, I have had a long beard for so long that for me it would be like losing an arm, or an eye, and this will sound very beast, but even I would prefer it before trimming...
    I keep looking for a place that really fits my long beard, it's part of me and my personality... and I love it, but sometimes there are bumps in the road... but without my long beard, I feel like it wouldn't be I... it's complicated.

    • @revfearolution
      @revfearolution  11 месяцев назад

      Thanks for taking the time to share your own situation, I'm genuinely sorry to hear about the impact of the pandemic, and the challenges you continue to face.
      After having a beard now since 2017, I completely understand the reluctance to change the length, my beard really is a big part of who I am.
      It must be frustrating to consider that this may be holding your work prospects back.
      Perhaps you could experiment with slightly shorter...I'm tempted at times to experiment and I think this is the beauty about facial hair, you do have options, and if it doesn't work out, you can be back to a bushy beard within a few months...knowing that you can grow a beard.
      With my moustache, I have been tempted to try the "beardstache" which I think looks really cool, or even the verdi style.
      I think the important thing is that we should get a little excited with the options and possibilities of experimentation that come from having a beard, which is far more than we could say about a smooth faced brothers!

      Thanks! In my view, 3-4 months is the period when you really can see a beard emerging, and gives an idea of what you will have. You have a strong look with the beard and shaved head, that I will eventually match, since I am thinning significantly...I did shave my head coming up to the years, but I didn't feel it looked right...I would say 3-6 months is the best length with a shaved head, and after this year (I'm going for terminal beard this year) I will settle for 3-6 months growth. This is a really valid point, i'm struggling with this at the moment and hopefully it will as I age (quite nice that as everything deteriorates the beard gets stronger!). I want to grow the sides out a bit more, but it might be that keeping it trim on these weak areas will be the best for my long term look. I'm going to give it another sixth months to see if it makes a difference. If not I think will settle for Tsar Alexander 3rd's length and style.

    If you stop trimming the sides they will grow just long enough to cover all the light patchy areas and will taper into the neck hairs. Just like the soul patch has a terminal growth limit the sides also will stop growing at a point. Not all beards do that but its a type of beard pattern.

      Thanks, yes the yeard certainly is a commitment!
      No worries about asking, glad to offer any advice.
      So here is what I do:
      - Towel dry gently, soaking up the water by applying pressure.
      I never rub my beard like I would with my hair.
      - I will then brush it out with my Kent comb, usually the large comb teeth. I shall brush mostly down and out a little. I will brush a bit from the back and down...and out, but not too much because it can get caught and you lose too many hairs.
      My moustache at this point I will brush in a natural position.
      - I shall apply some oil. I use a pippette, because I can reach the chin area that tends to get quite dry. Usual dime amount used for the rest of the beard. I am not fussy how I apply this, I just make sure that I have reached all the beard.
      - I will use my Kent comb again, just brushing down, at this point I will also use my oval palm sized boar bristle brush for the sides. I will use it sparingly, about two to three strokes for each side.
      - if I need to, It isn't always necessary, I shall use a hair dryer to blast the sides...very quickly about 2-3 times using my hand or boar bristle brush to keep it straight as the hairdryer moves downward.
      This will work well, but I will often fluff the sides out a bit using my fingers underneath.
      - I shall take a finger nails worth of balm and work it in my hands and work on my beard, sometimes I shall work from the inside, sometimes just on the outside. I don't think it makes much difference.
      - I shall then decide if I want to do anything with the moustache. I will often just leave it, but if I need to, I shall use the hairdryer very quickly after applying a small amount of wax to get the handle bar look. Overall, without rushing, this takes about 10minutes give or take a few minutes.
      It is about the best routine I have found so far!
      Hope this helps, feel free to ask any more questions!

      REVfearOLUTION I’m only in 1 month of growing, the longest ive grown a beard for was 4 months, but that was with trimning. This time I’m gonna try leaving it as it is.
      Did you get a lot of comments on the way?

    • @revfearolution
      @revfearolution  6 лет назад

      4 months is pretty good, but over six months and you really know that you are growing a beard. Strangers (particularly guys) tend to make really positive comments, whilst without doubt family were my greatest dissenters! This is perhaps motivation in many ways, because strangers will be looking at you from a far more objective and less emotive lens and therefore give you confidence to continue. Do you think you will do a video?
      Would love to see how the beard develops.

    • @LarsHugoNielsen
      @LarsHugoNielsen 6 лет назад +1

      I agree on the months of growing. First time I did trim my moustache and the sides as well. This time I'm really gonna try to just leave it as it is and first trim way longer into the process. Are you growing out your sides now?
      My beard has some patchy spots here and there and sometimes its hard not to focus on that negatively. But I´m gonna try to love my beard as it is, cause someone told me that would be a good idea.:-)
      I'm in the really itchy state right now and it tests my patience and inner voice already.
      If I'm going to do a video, I´m gonna do in a way similar to yours. I really like the way you showed us the final result first, followed by your pictures of your journey. I must say, I have seen a lot of beard videos but yours is my all time favourite. I´m not sure I´m gonna post on my channel though, but I will gladly send it to you if you would be so kind as to give some feedback when the time comes.
      Thanks for replying and also showing interest in my process, it means a lot.

      +Lars Hugo That inner voice doesn't really go away, but it does get quieter and less annoying over time, and besides, as I'm getting older, I'm learning not to worry too much about my doubts or indeed the negativity of others...
      I was lucky not to get too itchy, but I always exfoliated my skin...Twice a week in the beginning which I'm sure had a positive effect.
      I don't take compliments well but thanks for the kind kind words. I'm actually doing an update video as we speak that will discuss the sides out of respect and thanks for the people like you that have been so supportive (I was only ever going to do this one!).
      I would love to see any video you do, this whole thing... growing a beard, doing the RUclips video. I would highly recommend to anyone, taking those tiny steps to overcoming some of our inner fears!
      Thanks again Lars.

    I think you have a great beard and also you should continue to just listen you your instinct for how you would like it to look like, I’ve also got patchy sides which irritate me while my chin is the thickest, but I’m sure by watching your video I’m going to continue to grow and see how the sides grow in time with the rest of it, hopefully they get a little thicker with patience and time!

Thanks about the moustache, though I should have made it look better for my video. I usually put more wax on it, and have it looking more symmetrical. Some hairs like to stick out instead of going down.
      I love sitting at my desk at work and stroking my face.
      I have to shave my neckline every two days or it gets scruffy.

      I honestly think that redheaded beards are the best! Classic viking look! The cheeks will improve with growth, but as you probably know, the bulk of the beard will be under the chin/neck area... I have known people to have virtually no growth on the cheeks and still look awesome.
      If I do a big trim, I will likely do a video for that, I am thinking that if/when I do, I will actually get Mahesh Haywards from Beardbrand to do it (if that is possible )... I might just wake up and decide to just do it myself though... we will see.

      Skull Pain Thanks for this, I was just saying to another upcoming bearded RUclipsr (The Beard Dream) that I'm unlikely to do much in the way of beard videos, this was a pilot for a future pathway I'm exploring... This was a good start to test the whole process of planning, shooting, editing and posting a video (and also overcoming the anxiety of putting myself "out there") ...honestly though I can't believe how fantastic the experience has been. So many awesome people... Genuinely... It gives me so much hope for the future... Whatever that looks like.
      As for current beard progress. I did trim about 3inches shortly after this video, but it has grown again since. I think I'm going to keep going for as close to terminal as I can get it. Plus I still want to see what the sides do with no trimming.
      I plan to post for my long term project sometime before the new year. So you will no doubt see the beard progress then! I may yet post a pure update beard video, just to give the respect that all the people kind enough to watch, comment and subscribe on this video deserve.
      Whatever the case, I think I will be bearded now until the end of my day's (hopefully) so will be keen to support my bearded brothers like yourself and the beard dream in your futures on this platform. • @revfearolution

      My good friend...it's all about having a consistent routine, committing to the beard, loving the process. Co-washing everyday (using beard conditioner), then using oil perhaps twice a day...this helps with the beardruff. Also twice a week I found it necessary to exfoliate, particularly in the problem areas. I now only find I need to exfoliate once a week.
      Do all of these things, and I would be surprised if you didn't get positive results...

    Awesome beard. I have similar growth patterns in my cheeks... I'm almost 2 months in. Did yours finally grow in a bit? Did it bug you that it was thin there?

    • @revfearolution
      @revfearolution  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks Tyler. In all honesty it has never really bothered me having the thin cheeks and once you start bulking out and gaining mass under the chin and kneck region it really distracts from the cheeks...I would say you can afford to keep the cheek region short once the bulk of the beard comes in, but I would definitely only do this once you have seen what you have after the yeard. I thInk I have also made a few errors, trimming my sideburns too low which would have added coverage to the cheek area. I'm experimenting with growing the sideburns out a bit to see if this will make a difference...I think this could take a while and it is going through an annoying phase but it could be worth it.
      Just remember you will scrutinize your beard more than anyone, so people in passing will only really see the bulk...try not to spend too much time noticing the weak areas and celebrate the whole...because it is the whole that makes your beard distinctly yours.
      Good luck and let me know how things go!

    • @atylerpearce
      @atylerpearce 6 лет назад +1

      REVfearOLUTION Thanks man. I will. I might go see a barber for a trim (no length) in a month at 3 month mark. Just to make sure it's all neat and maybe start shape.

    • @revfearolution
      @revfearolution  6 лет назад +1

      The only trimming I did was the kneckline in that time frame (within the 3months range). This can really make things look tidy, but be selective with the Barber. Some love to hack at a beard (so my bearded brethren tell me). Make sure you clearly tell them about your goals...less is definitely more. As mentioned in the video I did trim the sides at about six months for a wedding. This was a good choice at the time and would consider this style in the future as part of a long term look but I have paid a little bit for it since (hence why I am now growing out the sideburns).
      I think the key is learn as you go and don't beat yourself up if you make mistakes, the beard journey is a genuinely rewarding one if you relax and enjoy it. Peace out my bearded brother 😀

It's perhaps one of the few surprises in life! As I Say in the video, you have to give it at least 3-4 months to judge. Perhaps you just need to try to get past this...maybe even 6 months. I know people who can literally only grow under the chin and on the neck but their beard looks great because this is where you find the "bulk" of the beard.

    Hey kids, you think patchy is bad? Just wait till the grey comes in random spots.

      Haha...I have notice the odd white hair coming through, that I call platinum blonde! ...I guess you can only hope and pray that there is at least some symmetry to the growth!

      What is the longest you have grown the beard? How many months?

    • @dquaid666
      @dquaid666 5 лет назад +1

      REVfearOLUTION about 2 months. Was thinking about trying minoxidil

    • @revfearolution
      @revfearolution  5 лет назад

      @@dquaid666 I would honestly try to avoid Minoxidil if you can. I think you really have to wait at least 3-4 months to see what you have... Better still give it 4-6 months. You will be surprised how much growth happens at this time frame.
      Also If you are struggling with the cheek area, try not to worry. Most growth comes from under the chin/neck area.... Do not shave any of this and you may be surprised what you have at 4 months.... One of the best celebrity examples is Leonardo Dicaprio... Check out his beard pictures... Virtually no beard on the cheeks, but I think he has a great beard.

      I think Leonardo DiCaprio highlights that patchy shouldn't hold anyone back...he doesn't look like he is able to grow anything on the cheeks, but really does "grow what you got" and I love his beard...
