I had a great full thick beard 12 inches long up to June 2022. My wife lost her job and my business went under. I actually from stress in just a few weeks pulled out most of my beard under my chin and jaw by July 2022. It's now Jan 2023 and my beard is coming back and should be 12 inches for spring and looking good!
Hey brother! Sorry you had to go through that, not an easy experience to say the least I’m sure. When I’m stressed or overworked, I play with my beard too much which dries it out and makes it flake/fall out. You do it without realising don’t you! I’m really glad to hear you’re back on strong footing again! 💪Thanks for stopping by and sharing, I really appreciate it. 👍🏼
Glad to see someone that's actually talking about facts and also that has the knowledge. So many just jump in with no research or work out in. Congratulations on the early success!!
Great tips! The time and patience aspect of growing a beard is really big I started to try and grow out my facial hair 4 years ago and in those 4 years and in that 4 years it has gotten noticeably thicker particularly in my checks and moustache where they bit weaker than my chin which has been very thick . Patches have started to fill in as well. Right now I rock a shorter style beard trimming weekly I hope to experiment with medium and long beard styles at some point in my life
your point about accepting the awkward stage and leaving it alone, leave the fly aways, it will eventually elongate and become something as a whole, assuming one has decent coverage of terminal hairs. You will look like a beaver before you look like a berzinsky haha. The trimming point is interesting, its still good to go for the long haul before attempting the maintenance trim, but if one does go for a MT after a good 4 months, less is always more. SUBBED!
Thanks for subscribing brother! Totally agree - the longer you can leave it (and the longer you can get away with potentially looking scruffy) the better, as you’ll have more to work with and a better perspective of your growth potential. :) we tend to recommend 4-6 weeks, as people get the itch at that point (itch to shave/trim that is). How long do you tend to grow yours out for?
Alex hello Good Evening to You from the States I just wanted to say that I just stumbled upon your platform as a first time viewer, I’m very impressed by the vital information that’s being passed along. As a fellow Beardsmen a lot of people doesn’t understand the importance of having a healthy Beard as it takes so much effort as well time if they’re struggling with achieving one, I actually agree with You on this topic of discussion (Personally I’ve never had to use a derma-roller) everyone’s genetics are different… but will the proper care and regiment anyone can achieve greatness, Congratulations on your platform and much continued growth as well success. 🙏🏾💪🏾👍🏾
I only just saw this Walter, my apologies! Thank you for the kind words and for taking the time to leave a comment! Agreed - consistency and dedication are absolutely key 💪
Just saw this video. Shaved a yeard last month and had trimmed it twice during that year. This restart I am not touching it and just letting it grow. Was 8 inches before I had to shave it. Going for 10+ inches by a year this time. Walking 3 miles a day and have lost almost 90 lbs and eating right
@@kartana you really need to dermarole every 3-4 days and don't use minox the next 24 hours after dermaroling. Dermaroling is promoting the collagen production and blodflow to the new hair follicles being produced by the minox
Alex, I have to work on the sleep, stress and water. Two other things that I believe contribute to a thicker beard is letting your neck beard hair grow if you are growing a longer beard and wearing darker colored shirts when possible especially with a white beard. Thank for a great video will be joining your channel,Cheers👍🏼
Me too - good on the water front, but sleep and stress are an area I need to tackle. Sadly probably the trickiest things to work on. 😂 That’s an interesting point! If you grow it out and wear a black shirt, do you find that it shows thin spots more easily though? When I’m cutting mine I hold a kitchen towel behind it (basically the opposite of your process) so I can see where it’s thin and could do with a trim to make the overall beard look thicker. Thanks for subscribing. Saw you pop up on Instagram too - really appreciate that! 😃
Good advice, good to remember not to constantly shampoo your beard, you need to maintain natural oil chemistry in the beard. So no more than 3 times a week. And you want to use shampoo designed for the beard hair not head hair, since it's far too harsh on the hair and skin. Even as a ground worker I can still get away with 3 shampoos and 4 water scrubs. I use a soft bristle brush gently to scrub. Also don't use coconut oil ... LMAO. I once used it as a contingency when I ran out of the good stuff. I emulsified it into my hands, rubbed it in.. felt great and looked fine, stepped outside, waited at the tram stop for awhile in the freezing cold, then suddenly it solidified, and every-time I had a little scratch of my beard it looked like a massive blizzard storm falling out, not a good look homies xD I like your advice, optimise your health = optimise your beard, no short cuts, and genetics is genetics, own what you got and understand your limits and maintain realistic expectations. Also be Patient** don't make your life about the beard, focus on goals and don't let the beard constantly be consuming your mind throughout the day. Great video man
Oh man; I hear you loud and clear on the coconut oil! All part of the beard journey experimenting with different things isn’t it. 😂 you’re spot on with the shampoo too. We’ve even found a couple of Beard shampoos that are pretty harsh on the skin too. We’re not sure if it’s down to the sulphates, or whether the fragrance is a little harsh. We’ve had others that we’ve bought cheap on amazon and run past our chemists and they’ve found them to be using formulae that are 50 years old and no longer safe for skin. Pretty crazy out there if you don’t know what to look for!
Hello Dan mate! Feels surreal to see your name pop up here when we're only 15 days into our RUclips journey - I've been a fan of your videos for a long time. :) Anyone who sees this (yes, all 4 of you), go check out Dan's content, it's awesome. Great shout on the sources/study links - we'll populate them into the accompanying article and provide a link for it over the next few days. As mentioned in the video content, some of the points are backed on colloquial/anecdotal evidence from Reddit/reports from other bearded dudes, but we will absolutely add in for the rest! Lots of snake oil pushes here in the US! Also I e reviewed a few UK companies and think they have some unique qualities. I think a lot has to do with the guidelines and laws that you have to go by. Here they can say whatever they want on the bottle and make it in a bathroom ( some basically do!) And we would never do it
Hey man, thanks for commenting! It’s a shame to hear you guys have to contend with a lot of snake oil. All brands feel the impact of that because they have to work twice as hard to earn the trust of customers. We get them in the UK too, but they tend to taper off after a while. Amazon was a hotspot for it, but they cracked down on cosmetics a year or two back (you now have to upload safety reports from chemists before you can sell). I guess that’s the same in the states, so good to see amazon leading by example for once!
You didn't say how often to trim your beard if you're trying to grow a long, thick beard. I try to aim for trimming about 1 - 1.5 inches (about 2.5 - 3.75cm) every 3-4 months. Cheers, buddy!
That’s good advice man, and sorry for the delay in getting back to you! It’s subjective I guess - depends on the individual on how fast their beard grows. For me, I realistically need to get my beard trimmed down every 4-6 weeks before it starts to look messy or unruly. If I don’t trim the moustache every 2 weeks, it grows over my lip, so I tend to that myself with a beard trimmer. Generally speaking, if you’re growing a beard from scratch, I’d say grow it for 4 weeks to start, then trim flyaways (go to a decent barber for this if you can to set a shape in) and then grow it out along those guidelines. From there, trim it whenever it starts to look thin at the tips. If you’re not, every 4-6 weeks is a good guideline for trimming. A good test for what needs trimming is to put a kitchen towel/bit of white cloth underneath your beard and see where the light grows through. I’ve been growing it out pretty much for a year bang on, but have done this recently. See the video that’s due to go live in a couple days!
