    A LOT of people here are completely forgetting that attraction is much more complicated than this. No matter how perfect a person might be to me scientifically, if they start insulting me then I'm not going to be attracted to them.

    The formula of attaction is F=G((m1*m2)/r^2), where G is gravitational constant, m1 and m2 are masses of the object and r is the distance between them.

      Also, I heard that most people can live a life without romance and can still be happy. But most of the time, if someone doesn't have any platonic friends in their life, it can effect them really bad mentally; much worse than living a life without a romantic partner. In today's world, less people are dating and getting married now, and they seem to be more happy being single rather than being in romantic relationship with someone.
      Also, You're going to have a much deeper spoken understanding and connection with your best friend than you are with a romantic partner or spouse.
      So those are other reasons why romantic love isn't real or special, while platonic love is.

    • @icysnow57cold64
      @icysnow57cold64 4 года назад +8

      And also, it seems that fathers usually hate it whenever their daughter gets a boyfriend (even if the boyfriend is a good guy), and it seems that they often hate the idea of their daughter dating, and many fathers seem against the idea of their daughters dating. There are even shirts made for daughters that say "I'M NOT ALLOWED TO EVER DATE" and shirts made for fathers that say "DADS AGAINST DAUGHTERS DATING".
      Brothers also tend to act the same way that fathers do whenever their sister gets a boyfriend (even if the boyfriend is a good guy). It seems brothers (like fathers) hate the idea of their sisters dating.
      So it seems that most fathers don't ever want their daughters to find love and be in a romantic relationship with someone, and it also seems that most brothers don't ever want their sisters to find love and be in a romantic relationship with someone.
      So those could also be other reasons why the concept of romantic relationships isn't a good thing because of how protective fathers and brothers tend to be whenever their daughter or sister dates someone.

    • @DawnMaslarTV
      @DawnMaslarTV 10 лет назад +354

      Aero, great question! My research shows that attraction is complex. We are attracted to both opposites and familiar at the same time. For example, someone needs to be familiar enough that we feel comfortable, yet at the same time we are naturally repulsed when someone is too close - such as the MHC molecules. Those factors can cause finding a suitable match challenging.

    It's funny because it's often looked down upon, or perhaps not taken as seriously (even by me), but by this logic the purest relationships would actually be one's that start online or even more through anonymous site based interaction, as if a relationship forms only through an exchange of words, it means attraction is based fully on and through personality aspects, and no other depreciating factors. What a time to be alive.

      It's way more complicated than portrayed in the video.
      Looks are the short term part of attraction and you can do without them. The long-term and way more important part is your compatibility in terms of personality.
      My boyfriend didn't notice me romantically when we first met because of my terrible skin. But because we have a lot in common, we quickly became best friends until that turned into something else.
      If you stay true to your values and your personality, one day the right person will come along and they will fall for you, no matter your looks.

      it's more like a generalization I believe, it doesn't apply to everyone in the same way. people who I deemed attractive were not conventionally good looking once I got to know them i was like" huh he looks nice". I don't have the drive to be in romantic relationships nor do I seem to be physically attracted to others as much as other people do(crushes and all of that) but once I encounter a personality that is nice then I perceive their overall image as such. I doubt I'm the only one as other commenters said similar things...so yeah don't worry too much about it

    Also, when people are in love, it is easy for them to ignore all the bad traits of that person and focus on only the good ones. That's why people tend to ignore the red flags when they're in love. Their guiders(Parents/siblings/guardians) can easily tell if that person is good for you but being in love, you tend to ignore what they're saying. So, PLEASE PLEASE, Listen to your parents if they say "I don't think he/she is good for you." Ask for reasons and please listen to them..

      Stine Newton What's completely unnatural is to be that stupid. If you want to revert to the era of living in the "jungle male n female", as you put it, then by all means, go live in the Amazon, away from technology, cities, vehicles, and everything else outside of the realm of the perfectly ideal "jungle male n female". Attraction is not simply limited to primal instincts. Numerous factors, including societal and cultural upbringings, personality, interests, intelligence, success, feelings of security, and much more play into attraction. You act like people just go around fucking each other and hope that a baby eventually pops out and homosexual individuals expect the same thing to happen.

    • @RamblesWorkshop
      @RamblesWorkshop 8 лет назад +84

      pissicutza09 While im not asexual i feel it might be worth noting that Romantics and sexuality are two separate things, you can be romantically attracted to someone without wanting sex.
      Physical contact of any sort in a relationship can feel good for both parties and both may want it but asexuality just means that the person may not feel the sexual desire for other people.
      Or you can be aromantic asexual where you simply wish for companionship. its a spectrum.

    Attraction is not love.

    • @jasonng04
      @jasonng04 8 лет назад +10

      ***** No it isn't. Love is a deep affection that you do manually. You only choose to show affection to someone. This is why a lot of people break up or divorce as their view on love is warped & think it is only attraction which can only last so long. Once that attraction is over you need to show affection that will keep a bond between both of you which you YOURSELF need to do. Love isn't automatic. Only you choose to love. This is the same with emotions which are mostly manual but sometimes automatic. But you need to choose to stay happy. But that is happiness. So stay happy & show affection to everyone (^-^)

    So if someone is asexual, does that mean that their body just doesn't run these tests, or do they just not get attracted by any of these factors, plain and simple? And as for those who fall in love mainly based on personality, what is the science behind that? o:

    • @TurtleTime26
      @TurtleTime26 8 лет назад +58

      +LilyToon Asexual people either don't run these tests or don't respond to them. It varies from person to person, depending on their genetics and other conditions.
      As for those who fall in love based on personality, they still very much run these tests---this science is merely for sexual and reproductive purposes---but human beings (as well as certain animals) also run additional tests to determine if the person/being they're interacting with is a candidate for a lifelong mate. It takes a while to run these tests, and they take place on both the cognitive and subconscious level, which is why it's generally a good idea to have been seeing a person for a while before considering dropping the question.

      Formants are acoustical properties of the voice. They are certain frequencies (the scientific term for "pitch") that resonate with our vocal tract (the space between our mouth and voice box) when we speak. You could say that they are certain frequencies that get a boost in intensity (i.e. volume) when we shape our mouths in different ways and our ability to detect them allows us to recognize different vowels. Look up spectrogram images of formants and you'll see them. The video is talking about a kind of speech that makes these formants space apart widely rather than cluster together. Does this help?

    What about gay people?
    What are the factors that determine attraction?
    Is there anything else than in-link-with-reproduction, or something replacing it?
    And sometimes gay men act like women and gay women act like men, is it for attracting the other mate? Or does it have nothing to do with.
    Or act they this way because of another factor and are attracted to the same sex, because they are both attracted to the same sex.
    And in the heterosexual way, some men are attracted to more mannish women, as some women are attracted by more womanish men.
    Is attraction by more manish or womanish people has a conection with in-link-with-reproduction? or is it just a consequences of the normal type? or are these things distinct.
    What about the other sexualities? What about the asexuality? Are they attracted without wanting sex?
    All that I know about me, being a gay is that I prefer mannish smells, instead of womanish smells.
    Maybe it's the same factors, but as a gay man research a man, the no-possibility to reproduce with, is not a problem. Because there are alternative or it's not important anymore. And so what is kept is not the finality of reproducing, but the means that uses reproducing to find a partner.
    Too many questions!!!!!!! Please answer as many as possible!!! :D

    • @vivanpaull

      ***** Gay people respond to pheromones the same way a straight person of the opposite gender would. In layman terms, being gay is when your "matchmaking system" thinks it can reproduce with someone of the same gender. The way people act and their exact preferences are unrelated.
      I can't comment on asexuality.

    • @Nidomy
      @Nidomy 9 лет назад

      Gerik Paull That's quite a good explaination. For asexuel people the problem is to know why they can fall in love and why they won't have sex at the same time. In the upper video, falling in love and have sex are pratically attached.

    • @vivanpaull
      @vivanpaull 9 лет назад

      ***** I guess there's three ways to look at it:
      a) Sexual attraction is only one of many components of love, asexual people just lack that one.
      b) What asexual people experience is more akin to how people would feel about their family or best friends rather than the romantic-find-someone-who-makes-good-babies love you and I experience.
      Option a is more politically correct, so let's go with that. :] The truth is we don't know shit about sexuality.

    Has anyone kissed someone before they got to know them/were also attracted to their personality and not liked the kiss? But then when you got to know the person and you kissed again, you liked it? Sort of like how people say sex is better when you're emotionally involved. 'Cause I know you can lose attraction after the first kiss, but what if it was bad because there wasn't a connection there besides biological? I can't really articulate this well, but I'm interested in hearing others' experiences with this.

    What's completely missing from this type of discussion as per usual is the lack of mention of the emotional energy centers that we, as emotional beings, all possess.
    Anyone who's ever had a literal heartfelt moment can attest to the existence of these strong generators of emotional energy.
    Yes, that's right, root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye, crown. There's a reason more and more people are acknowledging the existence of these centers, and it's primarily due to the fact that THEY CAN BE FELT.
    Meanwhile science keeps trying to tell us there's no mystery in the machine, and all the while those who can *see* just laugh and laugh at their disposition of utmost seriousness.

    The cold/hot coffee study was shown to be invalid as is failed to replicate. Holding hot or cold coffee does not influence how someone perceives you.

    Well thanks for tell me about the first kiss thing, you gave me a whole new thing to be anxious about. ;)
    Also, does your body really know what's best for you?

    Great video, but I agree with ilovekitkats, this video solely focuses on heterosexual attraction. It would be very interesting to see a video showing how same sex couples perceive tone of voice, and how their physiological impulses changed dependent upon scent and other senses.

    I’ve been trying to find what this is. For as long as i can remember i’ve only ever been attracted to people who have showed me attention or expressed that they have liked me in the first place, so my ‘type’ in physicality is all over the place because it all starts with them expressing an interest in me. idk it’s weird, and kind of sounds like i may be full of myself but i’m not at all i just dk why i’m like this.

    it is funny how our body actually tricks us, when we think we are the ones who decide^^

      Looking at it that way kinda sucks and doesn't feel right. Yeah attraction is natural but I'd hate to view a natural, genuine, and emotional reaction as trickery

    This is unique and engaging. A book I read with similar scope was also one-of-a-kind. "The Art of Meaningful Relationships in the 21st Century" by Leo Flint

    My first impression was a very strong one,’ repeated the prince. ‘When they took me away from Russia, I remember I passed through many German towns and looked out of the windows, but did not trouble so much as to ask questions about them. This was after a long series of fits. I always used to fall into a sort of torpid condition after such a series, and lost my memory almost entirely; and though I was not altogether without reason at such times, yet I had no logical power of thought. This would continue for three or four days, and then I would recover myself again. I remember my melancholy was intolerable; I felt inclined to cry; I sat and wondered and wondered uncomfortably; the consciousness that everything was strange weighed terribly upon me; I could understand that it was all foreign and strange. I recollect I awoke from this state for the first time at Basle, one evening; the bray of a donkey aroused me, a donkey in the town market. I saw the donkey and was extremely pleased with it, and from that moment my head seemed to clear.’ ‘A donkey? How strange! Yet it is not strange. Anyone of us might fall in love with a donkey! It happened in mythological times,’ said Madame Epanchin, looking wrathfully at her daughters, who had begun to laugh. ‘Go on, prince.’ ‘Since that evening I have been specially fond of donkeys. I began to ask questions about them, for I had never seen one before; and I at once came to the conclusion that this must be one of the most useful of animals-strong, willing, patient, cheap; and, thanks to this donkey, I began to like the whole country I was travelling through; and my melancholy passed away.’⁴
