Odin Handheld - Is this the best PSP emulation handheld right now? 15 Games Showcase

- With a Snapdragon 845 and a 6" widescreen - this is really the best PSP emulation handheld right now.
One thing I didn't mention in the video - the games were played on a mix of both standard and hi performance mode. It shouldn't matter too much as God of War Chains of Olympus, probably the hardest game to run plays fine on standard mode.

great channel Jim, thanks for your help 👍 keep up the good work, new subscriber here 😄
Lookin pretty good overall 👍
Great job Jim. I'm actually surprised that there are even some psp titles that don't run great on Odin. You would think that it would just run all of them no problem. Especially considering that the god of war games are usually the benchmark for everyone when testing PSP games and they run so great on it.
God of War - once you get to SD845 level it runs pretty well and can do 60FPS. some slight slowdown. On the Powkiddy X18S which is a Unisoc T610, it will drop a lot from 60FPS, but if you use a 30FPS limiter via cheats menu it's smooth enough to be playable.
Killzone is a really problematic title that doesn't emulate well.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 runs at 20FPS by default.
Toca Race Driver 2 plays at 40FPS.
Colin has issues.
DJ Max Portable 3 has issues.
I'm sure there's tons of others. I've tested 38 PSP games so far, but those are the only ones that don't run. You can check my spreadsheet in the description if you like. Thanks for watching again!
I will thanks.
Great video Jim. I see many users stating that the Base model is more than capable for those hoping to play some of the more taxing systems at an affordable price!?
If its just android - yeah the base is solid, but like i said in the review video, I have this feeling the Lite is going to be good enough and save people $40 from the base, and possibly $80 from the pro. That's a lot of money for almost the same thing!
Pro is cool for the people who want to tinker and put windows in (I had a commenter say they got the 256GB upgrade and that might be the way to go for Windows, even 128GB is kind of tight).
Are you getting an Odin, Razor Burn?
Hi Jim. Nice video!
Seeing that you have covered the Odin and RG 552 on your channel. Which one would you recommend considering the form factor, built quality, battery life and screen?
Odin definitely if you want to emulate games. However you may also want to consider the Odin Base/Pro/Lite models.
RG552 has linux and android OS if you want to play around with the system a bit more. Odin has Android and Windows on ARM.
Cheers Jim, nice showcase of what to expect performance wise. Shame about Colin McRae 2005, did you test this on the Poco F3? Does more performance help or is it a bit of a lost cause for handheld emulation as things stand? BTW agree about Hot Shots Golf, lovely combination of cute presentation, deep gameplay and real challenge on the last couple of courses.
Ahh, checked the spreadsheet, you did. Listed as bad, sad face.
Hey Ched Head - ill have to check again... I think Colin is a bit better but still has some issues. I'll get back to you - because i did check but i forgot. (Too many games!)
I got up to silver in the campaign in both the PSP and Vita versions and had to quit in disgust because the courses were just evil. It was like a mini golf course and putting perpendicular to the hole. Every drive rolled into the sand traps or into the water. 😄 I tried so many times to beat the game and gave up.
Wish I could get my hands on one of those
I finally got around to figuring out Alt store on my iPhone and installed PPSSPP. It's incredible playing 4x Gran Turismo at 60 FPS with fxaa on a 6 inch oled screen with a Gamesir X2.
I have to do this at some point on my iPad Air from 2 years ago. It's probably better than Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
Jim, there's still a lack of Tokyo Xtreme Racer/Wangan Midnight/Shutoku Battle on your channel!
haha - is there Tokyo Xtreme Racer for PSP (I feel like there is!). I don't know about the other two games, when I get curious enough Ill check them out! Ill try include TXR for DC when I get the chance but i have to warn you how bad the gameplay is going to be! 😄
@@JimRPG no worries mate. Just giving you a hard time. The PSP version was an abomination and they gave it a completely different name, I think it's "Street Supremacy".
When you download ROMs what format do they need to be when downloading onto a memory card please
For shooters like Syphon Filter are you able to map aiming controls to the right analog stick even though it wasn't native to the PSP?
Yes you can map it to the right analog. I just got lazy and didn't remap it.
I have the Razer Phone 2 which rocks this chipset and that thing has terrible PSP performance while having 8GB of ram. Don't know if I need to root it and go AOSP on it, or what. BUT I THOUGHT I should be able to get 2x out of almost all titles. Yet even the simple titles are slowing down like crazy and I can't figure out why. I have it on PERFORMANCE mode, and nothing.
Your Poco F3 has now been updated to MIUI 13 and Android 12. Have you noticed any gameplay difference in performance?
Haven’t gotten around to updating
We can probably expect 13 Hours on the Odin lite with Wipeout Pure!
Great point! And 13 hours is almost unheard of since the Gameboy days!
Ugh I can't wait for mine. Ordered almost 6 months ago - order 45xx - waiting patiently :(
really? what's keeping them. I was also order 40xx.
@@JimRPG I think I was on the tipping point of the 2nd batch - as far as I know they're still redoing the shoulder buttons and shipping again soon so hopefully April is my month. If I don't hear anything by may I'll email them. I ordered a black Odin Pro super pack :(
@@OriahVinree i see. Yeah they're doing the shoulder buttons so its probably a good thing you get a better version. I took it apart and the buttons can definitely be improved. Hope you get it soon.
You compare the Odin with rgb552 and powkiddy but what about the retroid pocket 2+?
I dont have the RP2+ but I would like one. I might get it later. Im paying for all these out of my own pocket.
Regarding the RP2+ the screen is a bit smaller so its great if you want a smaller handheld. For $100 its the best handheld specs you can get. I just dont have one so can't really say too much about it.
I have just discovered emulation in the last few months, and I find the PPSSPP is my favourite emulator on a phone.
It is made for a handheld system so form factor wise (especially any text) is perfect. I have about 30 psp games on my phone, whereas for other devices I just have 3 or 4 at most.
The emulation for non Handheld systems such as the PS2 or GameCube has issues with text and symbols being too small, controls more complicated... and also need more powerful phones to run of course.
My Gamesir x2, Poco X3 NFC and PPSSPP has been quite brilliant really, Ridge Racer and Virtua Tennis are my current faves, so good.
Why is there no Vita emulators ?
Yeah it's too heavy for phone to handle
I totally agree - PSP fits mobile phone screens and resolution up scales makes the games look amazing. The only issue is some of the text, HUDs and menus dont get upscaled so they don't look as good, but what is important is the game!
Well no one worked on Vita its as simple as that. There's no reason a phone couldn't handle it, if it can handle switch. It's possibly a PS2 situation, where its more difficult than Nintendo systems. Sony like to include their own hardware and that can make it trickier to emulate.
@@JimRPG maybe you're right,ps Vita almost have se hardware like ps3
Nice Video my friend, but to answer the Videos question:
No, it isnt. The perfect PSP Handheld probably is the PSP with a Double Micro SD Adapter. It can almost natively play PSX games as well and dozens of retro consoles
Tried to pick up a poco f3 buy amazon keep mysteriously misplacing the item. So cancelled and will wait for my odin to arrive. I have a onexplayer I can play on at the minute so no issue
The one x player should play everything the odin plays! (except android games) 😄
@@JimRPG I'm playing ps3 gonna sort drop my switch and 360 games so I can them also. I have a fold3 so I'm sorted for android
It is the deck might be too bit for a small handheld ( the deck is twice the size of the psp)
it is huge.
Minor issues and slow downs does not equal “Great”
depends how frequent - what game are you talking about here?
If its God of War - it can't be denied there's some slowdown, but getting this to run decently is a massive struggle, and it plays at 2x here. That's probably the most taxing 'great' game here.
@@JimRPG bruh on the odin base see video set cpu overclock to 500 in outrun 2006 run at perfect 60fps on ppsspp
To anyone thinking about getting an odin or loki... don't!!!! Ayn just screwed me over bad. Customer service is horrible and rude. Can't keep shipping dates because there only putting out 50 to zero a day. Take my advice and stay away from AYN!!!!!
