I second the suggestion to get a massage the day before if you can possibly make happen. Anytime you have a big event coming, like your child’s wedding even, get a massage 💆🏻 the day before. Such a great video! Something I don’t hear people talking about enough is planning your wedding date around your cycle. I don’t like the way I look no matter what on my period. But when I’m ovulating, I’ve got that glow!

I'm here because I'm getting married in November and I'm doing my own makeup so my plan is to practice several times even after i nail down the look i want so that i can time it out and know how much time i need and then I'll probably tack on some extra time but i love getting as many tips as possible

Excellent advice Nikki! My daughter and I are doing the makeup trial in June for her late summer wedding. Good idea to have hair done the same day. I wish I had done a hair trial before I got married 30+ years ago. I had to redo it myself.

Wow I wish I had this advice 30 years ago. There was no social media then. I just did my own makeup and my friends did my nails because that is all we knew. I guess at least I looked like myself lol. So much has changed.

Hi Nikki, thanks for this video, it's very helpful for me since I'm an Octobre-bride and doing my own makeup. In Germany where I live it's quite common to get your hair and makeup done by your hairdresser and I never like these looks, they all look the same with a caked-on base and very pink lips and cheeks. As a makeuplover with a decent collection and some skills, I'm so excited to do my own makeup that day and already trying products and techniques. I'm going for an understated look that doesn't look like I have much on but is really enhancing my features in the most beautyfying way. Still debating though if I go for my tried and true Mac face and body or get a new foundation, maybe Lisa Eldridge? You are so inspiring to me, thank you so much ❤

You suggested to not wear sunscreen, however I wear YSL All hours foundation, and it contains spf 30 as part of its formula. Is that ok for my bridal makeup? Thanks!
I had a photographer come in 2 hours before we even did makeup on my bride. The whole 1.5 hours of my doing my brides makeup, the photographer just kept asking when I was going to be done. It stressed me out so much. She looked rough. I felt like I was on a time crunch, I could tell me bride was getting stressed. Ughhh I felt terrible when I left her venue.

I wish i can send u,i mean i can but u might not read it,a picture of a girl as a bride,u would flip. She was the most horrific bride i've ever seen,and not that she is not beautiful but whoever did her makeup made her look like a zombi bride from a horror movie. I was mortified when i saw her photos from the big day and her sister as a bridemade looked the same 🫣😅 This video is very helpful for sure. ❤

I got married in 1968 and things were so much more simple. No phone distractions. Yea! I did my own makeup and hair. Most brides did and it was the real us. Weddings now are too over the top and expensive. It is crazy the amount of money that to me is flushed down the toilet on weddings. Spend that money wiser as in a place to live. This is just my opinion.

I couldn't help thinking about something that happened during my graduation, and although it has nothing to do specifically with makeup, perhaps it would help if you added this tip: DO EAT just before having your makeup done, specially in hot environements! I had a night graduation party during the summer here in Brazil, and I was so overwhelmed with the preparations that I forgot to eat; you see, my pressure went down and I fainted while waltzing with my father - it was so embarassing!!! Of course I learned my lesson and I ate properly before my makeup for the wedding!!

As a pale person who got sunburnt as a bridesmaid at an outdoor wedding because I didn’t reapply my sunscreen throughout the day - please wear sunscreen if you’re fair and will be outside at all. Please reapply if you’ll be outside a lot. But definitely wear a chemical one and take the time to test it in photos and test your reapplication over makeup!!!
I wore spf 50 and still burnt because I didn’t want to ruin my makeup. I don’t burn as easy as some people, most days I would’ve been perfectly fine but it happened to be an especially harsh day and you don’t get to choose the UV rating. Most fair people burn even easier than me so please be careful and don’t get sunburnt on your wedding day!

I’ve been married for 30 years and I loved this. 2 years ago I got to be a bridesmaid in the wedding of a 29 year old friend! This is helpful for a lot of situations. I’m sure my daughters will get married someday.

I’m doing my sister’s makeup for her wedding in September and I’m so excited!! But also super nervous because she’s not a makeup lover. I’m planning to go naturalllll but define her blue eyes. We will only have 2 days before the wedding to practice because we don’t live in the same state. If anyone has any recommendations for good drugstore non flashback makeup, that would be amazinggg.

Do you have any tips to get over anxiety around someone else doing your make up? I’ve never had my make up professionally done and I’m wanting to get it done for wedding in 2026 but I’m too nice and feel like I’m gonna end up with something I don’t like maybe I’m just overthinking it. I planned my hair and makeup trial the morning of my bridal shower and I’m so happy I did it that way. Two of my best friends are also my hair stylist and makeup artist so they both had great tips for me. I had a large bridal party. I was already very emotional my dad passed away unexpectedly a month before my wedding. My mom was so great at recommending that I get my hair and makeup done by myself in the bridal suite. I didn’t need anymore emotional situations than I already was going through. My mom god bless her 💜 she was my rock that day.
As a suggestion I don’t think a bride should have Botox or filler done a week or two before their wedding. I know that I bruise so I did mine a month before my wedding. I had a bridesmaid that did hers a few days prior and she had a pretty large bruise around her eye area and lip area and that doesn’t help the makeup artist at all!
A few weeks before my wedding day I had two big pimples that just popped up. I made an appointment with my dermatologist and he injected them with cortisone and they were gone by day 2. I also chose not to wear SPF on my wedding day.
I have 3 weddings in June, two of them I’m in the bridal party and I’ll be having them watch your awesome video!

Tips for how to correct an artist who isn't matching your foundation correctly, please. I'm sure those of us with either very pale, or deeper skin tones can attest to the experience of having an artist incorrectly matching foundation, then giving an excuse like "It will look better on camera", or "its healthier looking", or "it will be brightening"... Besides finding someone professional who actually has your shade, there is also finding someone whose style, and availability matches up with yours. Any advice for how to find makeup artists?
You gotta rely on photos/portfolios and trials. Or even just a consultation can say so much about a makeup artist

Thank you for your public service, the amount of times I turned down brides because mentally I am not prepared to deal with the drama that family and friends usually bring on the brides! 99% Brides are never a problem but I’ve watched some getting dragged on their own day and it’s sad!

I would say have a backup makeup artist. My makeup artist ghosted me two weeks before my wedding. We had done the trial, but when I asked her to sign the contract for the actual wedding day, she stopped responding to my calls or texts.
I hope I am able to get married one day 😪

Nikki, I found you at the end of last year right as I began wedding planning. You have been such a joy to watch and so helpful! We have similar complexions with skin tone and oily skin, which is much more rare than I expected, so your tips go a long way for me. The wedding stuff is really stressful, but you bring a relaxing energy to all of your videos that I am so grateful for. I appreciate this video a lot.
Hiring a makeup artist is too complicated for my wedding situation, so I am doing it myself. Want to learn as much as I can beforehand. Been testing out so many looks and products this year. The base for oily skin is what intimidates me the most since we are planning for June. I would love a part 2, or any bridal content in general, I'm gonna be on it! Thank you!
I also found it funny you shared you're a Capricorn that doesn't ask for help - ever. My mom is a Capricorn, same thing about her, and being raised by her, I don't ask for help either. Tip noted!!
