I think "Founding Rain of Stars" should be read alongside Lusat's and Azur's spells.
"The glimpse of the primeval current that the astrologer saw became real, and the stars' amber rained down on this land."
"When Lusat glimpsed into the primeval current, he beheld the final moments of a great star cluster, and upon seeing it, he too was broken."
"When Azur glimpsed into the primeval current, he saw darkness. He was left both bewitched and fearful of the abyss."
Read in this order, it seems clear that the Primeval Current is an almost literal star-furnace. With the caveat that the stars are actually alive. So, if I have to guess, I'd say that the first glintstone sorcerer either witnessed the death of a star, or its birth. The metaphysical potency of such a phenomenon, plus the obvious affinity between any kind of life force, earthen or stellar, created a conduit between their mind and the Primeval Current, thus materialising the byproduct of this cosmic phenomenon in the real world. Basically, I think glintstone is just the "corpse" of one or more stars, mined for its residual life-force.
I also think there's not much of a difference between "the amber of the cosmos" and "golden amber", aside from its provenance. We know there are golden stars in the sky, after all, and then we have Elden Stars. I have the strong feeling we're experiencing the same dissonance of Bloodborne's blood, where initially it might seem there are different kinds of blood (divine blood, cursed blood, ritual blood etc...), while in reality they are only different in how the blood is used and/or perceived by whomever uses it.

So Glentstone is kind of like Coral (Armored Core 6) in that it is a power source, as well as technically alive.

I hope there’s more briar spells in the DLC and maybe more about the bloodstar
