This just doesn't age. This performance is perfect. For those who aren't aware, this segment on Australian radio station Triple J is broadcast live across the country at 8:15am. That's right, they created this live and quarter past 8 in the morning. Most of us can barely create a decent breakfast at that time of the day.

Like yea I'm a big fan of Karnivool but this comparison to times of the day and their performance is goofy lol.
there were periods in the past where I would wake up at 4 am for work. 🤷🏼♂ The time of the day really has no bearing on their excellence

My 29 yr old son just shared this with me about 10 minutes ago.. The sound is so clean and vocals clear.. I'll be 60 yrs old this year and love this band that apparently been around since 1997? When my son was 7??? Crazy Cool!! Thanks for sharing...
Hey "Jules" I'm right there with you. There IS great music out there. It's just not in the mainstream anymore (maybe never was). Harder to find, but very rewarding when you find it. King's X, Porcupine Tree, The Aristocrats....

Hi Jules, I’m 64 and when my youngest son was 15 he put me on to them, he is now 28. We have seen them (together) 6 or 7 times since, The 2nd album Sound Awake is in my opinion the finest Australian album ever produced (for ageing metal heads). They had a tour of the Australian east coast in the works when COVID hit. They did a live online show recently which i missed. Great band.
I come back all the time for this rendition.

It’s been 6 years and Hoss’ backing vocals give me CHILLS every time.
I feel exactly the same! This is the best version of this song for mine, probably because of Hoss and Kenny working off each other so well at the end.

The fidelity of this recording is so amazing, the bass is so gooey, the drums so crisp and everything occupies such a psychoacoustically pleasurable space. Karnivool has got to be one of the most forward moving bands of the 21st century, I can't wait for them to come to Canada!
The line that always gets me in this beautiful song is: "A world of confusion awaits our sons and kin, let´s reset it all". This is so emotional and dark at the same time. Long Live Karnivool.
Then combine it with “it stings. It hurts. Is this how its meant to be?”
Someone special showed me this song when he was in deep sorrow and it never left me. Love this so much !!

See as a drummer i would say the drummer, so tight and flowing.. but we all have different perspectives and every one of them is so very talented.
I really hope that on the next album they explore the dynamic of Kenny and Mark singing together. Mark really adds a special touch to this song here. It gives me goosebumps its so good.

@Sean PA I didn't realise it was a different producer but I've always felt disappointed by Asymmetry. I love experimental music-big Mars Volta fan-but for me Asymmetry just didn't gel; It didn't stick the landing. That said, I love that they went there, that they pushed new ground. It's not something you can say about every band.
Hopefully the next album matures that experimental style and like you say the old producer is back. Two phenomenal albums deserve a worthy follow up.

You know the one thing that I like the most about this video and the hey now cover is the way the band members all look at Kenny with maximum attention and respect when it matters at stages during the performance. That's a sign of a strong solid foundation of a band right there.

On the album version I hear this song as a 3/4 song because the Bassdrum is mixed very quietly. But live (and also on this acoustic version) I hear it as a shuffle.

technically he's not doing the modulation on the drums in this version. He uses the china cymbal on the album version to make the modulation.
yeah that really trips me out as well. When I saw them live there are a couple of parts where he almost slips back into the album feel. I really like the driving 4/4 groove though!
until i saw this video i thought it was in 3/4. where is your downbeat? i had the snare hits on 2 and 3. which means the china cymbal hits were all on the "a"
ignorantFid It's crazy, when I hear this version I get a 6/8, swinging triplet feel. Especially from the bass and Ian's vocal patterns.
I hear it on 12/8 in all versions.

This is completely nuts! I've listened very intensively to music since nearly 20years now. There are bands which I could listen to for hours. You know? Bands like Pink Floyd, Sigur Ros etc...
But Karnivool is something different. I never get bored of their music, it's almost spooky.

GuhuH that was beatiful! The ending to this song always gets me, regardless of what version. So powerful and moving. Love karnivool. Asymmetry is literally my favorite album of 2013 and that year had a lot of things going for it as far as albums from great bands.
So wish they'd come to the States. I would sell bodily fluids and personal possessions to be able to go see them live. :')
I have been fortunate to have seen them live...5 times so far. They are Australia's best live act, hands down.

I think this is the first time I've cried to a song, it's so flooring and the vocals are absolutely spot on perfect, especially for a live performance. I wish more bands existed like Karnivool, they're so unique in what they do that it's hard to define them in a genre.
I love that song. And also, everything that Karnivool made. My kind of music.

One thing that separates karnivool from the rest is their ability to merge emotion into their music. You can feel their music on a different level. The guitar solo in Cote is a brilliant example, brings me to tears. Very well done guys 👏✊
There is a great contrast between the heavy bass/guitars and the melodic and light voice, that is just, crazy, I listened to this band for the first time back in 2014 and since then, they have been my favorite band.
Ian Kenny makes it look so damn easy!, love love love his voice!

to be honest, i really can't stomach themata after the 2 albums that followed. Just set the bar alot higher.

@@stiggyyyyy are you kidding? Themata, COTE, Fear of the Sky, Shutter Speed, Mauseum etc the Album is fucking beautiful. If anything, to me, it shows how good they were even before they released Sound Awake
@@ThomasThorr don't get me wrong. I really enjoyed themata when it came out, and it is still solid, I just enjoy the later releases for the more "prog" elements more I guess.
Curious to see whenever the next material comes out what direction they go.

I saw these guys last summer in a small venue in Copenhagen, but at that time I wasn't really into them. Wish I could go back now and relive the concert cause they were spot on!
