    I think $60 is a real sweet spot for bourbon. There are so many great options right around $60 and under. In my market (excluding tax) that's getting me OF 1920, OF 1910, Rare Breed, Knob Creek 12yr, Knob Creek 9yr single barrel, Four Roses SBS, Wilderness Trail, Stellum, Baker's 7yr, 1792 FP picks, Bulleit barrel strength. That's not to mention all the other good stuff that's even cheaper.

    Great video! You turned me on to Rare Breed last year and I really appreciate that. OF 1910 is one that I first tried (again last year) in a taster's pack. It had 350s of 1897, 1910 and 1920. Against Rare Breed, 1920 is much "sharper" to the mouth for me... like biting a curry comb, whereas Rare Breed is more like biting a make-up brush (no, I haven't bitten either). I'm finding that mouth-feel is a very important part of my whiskey experience. I love your presentations, please keep them coming.

      Rare breed is a high proof killer. Every glass I pour myself I like it more. KC120 beats it. AlbertaPremiumCask beats it. Otherwise? It makes me regret almost every more expensive bottle I purchased at the 110+ proof point. Nothing against OF1920, but Rare Breed beats it handily. I like MM46cask but Rare Breed beats it too. I need to blind it against good old KC9 to see which I prefer... because if it beats KC9, it's possibly the best value bottle I've got (I do prefer KC12 and KC120 to it, but they are $70 bottles here). Also need to find some of the honey batch Larceny and EC barrel proof batches to compare to see if they can beat it.

  • @RussD71

    Solid list. I don't see really anyone talk about the regular 94 proof George Remus. I just had this with Blanton's, Buffalo Trace, 1783 and that Green River. It really brought a lot to the table for it's price. Top of the group if not close second that particular night. Maybe I am one of the few that is fond of it. I think around $35ish. Maybe another option in the low 90s proof mid $30's range for others to consider. Cheers!

    Enjoyed the video! At a recent tasting we all felt that the 1910 was a bit more harsh on the "burn" than the 1920 which I thought was interesting considering the 1910 is quite a bit lower proof. To us, the 1920 was incredibly smooth and drank WAY below it's proof and even burned less than the 1910. Strange how that works haha. But, they are both great pours. I keep hearing about Early Times but I don't really ever see it around here since the BiB is allocated.

Below is what I am thinking for my 2023 purchases but asking your opinion based on my taste info. I have not tried any of these bottles yet. My most expensive bottles I own are Woodford Double Oak and I am not sure about it yet. I like 1910 & WT101 the most. BT is sweet but flat to me. I also like Sazarac Rye. I think I am locked into below plan but should I skip EC Small Batch if I am getting EC Barrel Proof? I currently also own EW B&B and Early Times so I don’t need any more $20 bottles. I prefer the Small Batch Select but runs around the low to mid 60s around where I live. One can find it at nice n a while for the high 50s. When it first appeared in my area, it showed up at Costco for $50 - bought several bottles but now I’m down to my last one.

    • @BeersHunter

    • @OttoBoy
      @OttoBoy Год назад

      @@BeersHunter I don’t know the whiskey market in Delaware - I’m in Southern California - but $55 would be a good price here. This expression is always on the shelves at bottle shops, usually at ~$62-$67 on average. Single Barrel 100 proof is usually ~$45-$50. Costco has recently sold it at $38.
      If $55 has been the going price in Delaware for a while, you should be OK buying as you want it. But if prices tend to be volatile in Delaware - they almost always have been going up here - you may want to stash away some if it’s not a financial issue.
      As an example, Eagle Rare is not too hard to get around here - was low $20s forever until around 2017 - bumped up to $28-$30. Barrel picks were usually ~$33-$35. Local bottle shops just got in a shipments recently - not barrel picks. New price is $40. So my walk away with whiskey is, because demand is completely overwhelming supply (especially anything considered to be quality stuff), expect prices to continue rising for the foreseeable future. “Affordable” and “whiskey” are rarely mentioned together.

Though I agree that the "regular" version is a big ol' double thumbs down and the 10-yr is WAAAAY better, I really don't think it compares to Eagle Rare for complexity of flavor. Easier to find FOR SURE, but it just doesn't do it for me. YMMV.

      That’s fair Chris, and Eagle Rares can vary quite a bit too. If you get a good one, it’s hard to find a comparable bottle for the money at retail. If you get an average to odd one, you’ll wonder what all the fuss is about. We’ve got one standard and one store pick right now and if someone tried the store pick blind they might actually dump the glass down the sink instead of finish it because it’s so odd.
