    Nice video idea! I really enjoy the ECBP B522 and have a backup. My local store still has about ten bottles on the shelf. The Sagamore DO and their other offerings are so nice! I have a four square indelible that’s really nice and the Bardstown collaboration 4[] is great also! Jack Daniels squat bottles are all great:)! Cheers!

    Love these videos and the work you put in. 500+ bottles is a cool accomplishment. Question for one of you "answers" videos: What method do you use to keep track of your tasting note, scores, inventory, etc.? I've come across a few apps that seem good but love learning how others do it. Do you use an app, notebook, nothing? Thanks!

    • @mattschmitt9924

      Just last night I was having a pour and thinking that I need a way to track my personal ratings on bottles. Recently started having the wife blind pour me a sip to really analyze them.

    • @stuffandwhiskey
      @stuffandwhiskey  6 дней назад

      Great question. We with the answer were more elegant but it's just a Google spreadsheet that we add to weekly with the pour, price, proof, type, our scores after price is taken into account, and a link to the video. We don't tend to track scoring (or score things at all) off the channel.

    My 2 👍 up bottles would be Hardins Creek Boston, I didn’t believe in buying allocated hard to find bottles until I tried this Jim Beam gem, it’s my special occasion pour that I hold onto now. Another more common pour is definitely Rare Breed and Peerless DO both in my regular rotation. My favorite international pour has gotta be the Powers John’s Lane 12 it’s one that doesn’t get the hype but man does it hit up there with Red Breast and Yellow Spot!

    Thanks for the great video! I love what y'all do for the whiskey community.
    I suspect that the reason for y'all having a slight preference for the Rare Breed Duty-Free Exclusive over standard Rare Breed comes down to yours being a slightly better batch, rather than for any difference in production. In an interview with Whiskey Advocate, Jimmy Russell said every single rare breed is un-chillfiltered. They just put it on the label in duty-free areas because the international whisky market cares more about seeing it stated explicitly.

    • @stuffandwhiskey
      @stuffandwhiskey  15 дней назад +1

      Batch variance is very fair. Eddie and Bruce are more involved in operations at Turkey than Jimmy these days and have said that his statement on NCF Rare Breed in that video isn’t true, for whatever that’s worth.

    I don't think Sagamore Spirit can make bad whisky. Their regular bottle was the best rye I'd ever tasted, until I tried the Cask Strength. Now I've had the Hard Truth Sweet Mash Rye, which is *fine* whisky, but I think the Sagamore Cask Strength still beats it by a bit. I've not had the Sagamore Spirit double oak - I'm not sure I've seen it here - but I have to believe that it's fantastic. 🙂

    Definitely 👍👍on the Sagamore double oaked rye and WTRB. The JD single barrel select is a good mixer too, but I just tasted some vs the Woodford 121.2 because I picked up the char on the Woodford. After that sip, the JD felt so thin. I may need to get a barrel proof JD instead. Another 👍👍for me is an 8 year + Baker’s 7. I have an 8y6mo that is delicious.

    I always wonder if what I consider the best stuff I've tasted would hold up if I had been able to A/B it against something I'm familiar with. So often it's hard because they were one offs and it's hard to separate they experience from the spirit.
    My current top stuff would be:
    2006 Pappy Van Winkle 15 (Stitzel-Weller, none of the more recent ones I've tried have held up to the memory of this)
    2005 Noah's Mill 15 year (I should have bought cases of this)
    1947 Colonel Taylor
    Booker's Rye
    Four Roses Al Young
    Kentucky Owl Batch 1 Rye
    Wild Turkey Traditions 14
    Russel's Reserve Single Rickhouse CNF
    Bruichladdich Black Arts 9.1
    Red Breast 27
    Heaven Hill Heritage 20 year corn whiskey
    2014 William Heaven Hill Bottled in Bond 11 year
    Doc Swinsons 15 year Batch 9
    Four Roses LE 2015
    Four Roses LE 2019

      Fantastic list! Funnily enough, some of our favorite tasting whisk(e)y may not actually get two thumbs up in a double blind format simply due to value being off, but a Top 10 Things We've Ever Tasted would be an interesting video. I've thought about it several times and it would be a tough list to put together.

    It is fascinating how different tastes can be. I’ve picked up a few bottles after your videos and my wife and I loved them (SagamoreDO, Michter’s Toasted, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof). We like the Penderyn too, but are much more single malt fans anyway. My wife and I have over 200 bottles of Scottish single malts and the classic laddie might be our least favorite. We may have a bad batch because I see a lot of favorable reviews, but my wife and I describe the tasting notes as rotten fruits and lactic baby puke. Similarly, we dislike Rare Breed. It reminds both my wife and I of artificial cherry flavored cough syrup. I don’t think you two even noted cherry. We’ve even tried both the Laddie and Rare Breed in blinds and disliked them. Whisky is fascinating in how different it can be perceived, but sometimes completely aligned in perception. I like your videos a lot particularly to see how differently you two can perceive things. I thought the premise was sound that if both of your palettes aligned that it would be good for the general audience. However it was interesting to have two of our least favorites be in your top (but I did expect Rare Breed based on past videos).

    • @stuffandwhiskey
      @stuffandwhiskey  6 дней назад

      Those tasting notes in The Classic Laddie do make me think it might be a bad batch or tainted bottle, but it’s always so hard to say. We certainly don’t get those on ours, and it’s a whisky that’s been well reviewed elsewhere too. Definitely could just be that whisky and your palate not jiving too. Either way it’s certainly interesting as you said!

    What I think is funny about the ECBP is that they don't seem to care about criticism ... they just do what they do, and they get people to talk about their booze anyway 😉I've never had one that I thought wasn't worth the price, but that's just me. In the spirit of full disclosure, though, I don't buy them all. Just most of them. I also think that, top to bottom, Jack Daniel provides the most value for the money as well. They may have been caught a little flat-footed by the bourbon craze we're in now, but they sure caught up in a hurry.

      Whether you can or cannot get them, it doesn’t change the fact that they scored what they did completely blind. To say otherwise would be dishonest.
      Shame you didn’t stick around as over half the bottles on the list are readily available. The fact that those also scored great along with these allocated bottles speaks volumes to how good they are, hence why the list was presented in the order that we chose.
