Peter Gabriel is a visionary and a humanitarian, so many elements to this incredible artist. He started out as the lead singer of Genesis in their progressive rock era before embarking on a solo career. He helped bring world music into the mainstream and a lot of his songs touch a nerve because they deal with the human condition and spirituality.

Peter Gabriel was the lead singer for Genesis. He left the band in 1975 to pursue a solo career. “Solsbury Hill”was his first single! Check it out sometime 🎼 I also want you to react to his song “Shock the Monkey” 🔥

This is an absolutely brilliant song by a brilliant artist.
You’re right, Peter was the singer of Genesis before Phil Collins took his place. If you ever listen to any Genesis, be sure to listen to Peter’s era, because it was superb.
Peter has lots of amazing songs, but I particularly recommend that you watch the song “In Your Eyes” in the Secret World Live version. It’s like nothing you could ever expect.

This was a groundbreaking video - made in claymation (stop motion with modelling clay) by the same people who made Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep. PG's a deep well. For more from this "80s funk" era, try "Big Time" and "Steam". But there's a lot that's fire - from his first solo single "Solsbury Hill" through early songs like "Here Comes the Flood", "DIY", "Games Without Frontiers", "I Don't Remember", "Shock the Monkey" to later works like "In Your Eyes", "Shaking the Tree", "Digging In the Dirt", and "Blood of Eden" - he's just put out a new album, too! And yes, he was the original singer in Genesis.

You simply owe it to yourself to see a couple of this man's live performances. I'd recommend Peter Gabriel - In Your Eyes (Secret World Live) or Solsbury Hill live DNA or probably any other live performances by him with 20 million views or more. His stuff is different. Some of it starts kinda slow. But the vocal quality he and a couple of the others on stage with him bring is top notch IMO. Plus the jumping around and riding bicycles around the stage and such really adds something too. His studio versions are quite good, but his live performances are even better.

    • @waynebrown3266
      @waynebrown3266 Год назад

I did a bit of research. It seems to me the easiest way to find the two live Peter Gabriel songs I recommend is to look for the version of "In Your Eyes" with 27 million views on RUclips and "Solsbury Hill" with 24 million views. There are other live videos but they only have a fraction of the views and aren't the ones that I really liked. I'm not an expert on this guy by any stretch of the imagination, but I know and like maybe 5 of his songs and these have become my favorite versions of 2 of those. Course, just because I really liked them does not mean that everyone will.

There was nothing like a Genesis concert when Peter Gabriel was fronting the band. I was lucky enough to have seen them three times in the early '70s. He really seemed to be not of this earth. There is an incredible video of a Genesis concert from Oct. '73 filmed at Shepperton Studios in London that's available on youtube for anyone who's curious.

Here's a funny Eddie Van Halen story. EVH bought 'So?' by PG. Apparently the last album he ever bought. I forget which exact song but the bass player, Tony Levin, who is a badass, had this double-time bass run. EVH and Tony finally meet up and EVH shows him his version, with EVH tapping into the stratosphere, but it still doesn't sound right. Tony lets EVH hang on it for a bit, try some more, and finally admits he was only doing the fretwork and the drummer was hitting the string with drumsticks. EVH almost duplicated 4 hands using 2. Tony was stunned how close EVH actually got.

Sometimes it feels hard to believe. I mean I tell my kids exactly what he is saying. YOU ACTUALLY, REALISTICALLY, do anything you want.
If you ever need a hand or a pep talk, OR if you need someone to help you get a mountain out of the way of your path, YOU CALL ME.
I wish I had that for myself. He makes me almost feel confident and maybe believe I could do anything too.
People need people. Me plus one other person could equate to the power of 5 people. IF YOU KNOW YOU CAN GET SOMEONE TO SHOW UP FOR YOU ANY DAY OR NIGHT, NO FAIL, you have a
    SLEDGEHAMMER.
Life is hard. But it doesn’t have to be that bad if you have even one solid person!

There’s a very basic yet evidently complex message right here that he’s trying to get across:
You have been given a life. You can do anything you want with it. No matter what you choose, it will be hard. CALL ME. I will show up. And when you’re trying really hard and just need a breath, I will clear your path for you . Depend on it. Like a sledgehammer, it’s undeniable.
NO ONE CAN DO IT ALONE.
And I will depend you too.
THAT is what the song is saying.
The chicken and the egg thing is funny.
“Which came first? The chicken, or the egg?”
The answer is, it doesn’t matter. Neither one of them can exist without the other.
    Kinda like people. 😉

Great song, nothing like it. And the video was groundbreaking and so creative. As others have noted, the song was all about his new sexual relationship with Rosanna Arquette (the actress). Lots of subtle ways of talking about it, the sperm under a microscope in the beginning, the "open up your fruitcake", the egg becoming the chicken and then multiplying (which came first, the chicken or the egg?), the "shed my skin" and "show for me and I'll show for you", etc.
