The Bible is clear when it comes to Sola Scriptura the two verses below say it all. There's no need to debate this topic. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 "16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."
As a faithful Catholic, who is the son of a faithful Baptist mother and a family member of a huge Southern Baptist family, I want to thank the pastors. and the staff of Livingston first Baptist for putting together such a great presentation. And I want to thank Jimmy and Mr. White for their thoughtful expositions of their views.
Jimmy Akins lost this debate handily. He had no answers and only assumptions he can’t prove. Akin is a talented debater, but he can’t defend a position that is indefensible. White won easily because the truth is it’s own defense
Lmao uh huh. Tell me, give me one verse, where the Bible teaches sola scriptura, since you think Akin lost badly. Show me one Church Father that taught sola scriptura. Go ahead and bring up Augustine, so i can show you how he definitely favored the Catholic Church.
@@davidliu7967 James White needs to appeal to scripture to prove that it is the sole infallible authority. This is logically absurd. James Whites debate against Patrick Madrid on sola scriptura actually led me to come out of Protestantism. I’m currently looking into information on Orthodoxy and Catholicism so pray God guides me through this time.
I learned everything i knew about the Catholic church from James White. Finding out none of that was true, was one of the primary reasons i became catholic.
@@cba4389 Nah we serve god alone sir. Dont make the same mistake i did and believe what Rome’s enemies say without listening to Rome herself. There’s a reason both parties get an equal chance to state their case in any fair legal dispute. How much more important is understanding the nature of god and what he wants from us? I hate to assume someone is being hasty…. Have you actually listened to catholic apologists or just the anti catholic protestants?
@@timboslice980 for myself I listen to both sides in moderated debates from many different positions. I watch for several things, among the top are how the text of scripture is quoted, in context or not, and consistency in doctrine. I haven't seen consistency among Roman Catholic debaters although they claim to know what scripture says better than others do.
@@ChristisLord2023 Ive found the exact opposite. In fact, i think if you type in any catholic youtube channel and “worship mary” “Eucharist” “sola scriptura” “purgatory” literally every single youtuber will use the same bible quotes. We constantly get criticized for using the same “catholic talking points”. Also i def agree we have a much deeper and more comprehensible understanding of scripture than Protestants. I’ll give you an easy example…. Explain how romans 2 and 3 are both true. In Romans 2 we read 7 to those who by patiently doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life, 8 while for those who are self-seeking and who obey not the truth but injustice, there will be wrath and fury.” In romans 3 it says: “For no human will be justified before him by deeds prescribed by the law, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.” And “. excluded. Through what kind of law? That of works? No, rather through the law of faith. 28 For we hold that a person is justified by faith apart from works prescribed by the law. Catholic theology easily harmonizes all 3 of these passages and indeed all of romans 2. From what ive heard from Protestants, they use romans 3 to refute romans 2. Curious as to how you see it. Ive honestly never heard a logical Protestant response. Usually its “ romans 2 is for unbelievers, its for those who perfectly hold to the law, or paul is presenting a devil’s advocate argument in 2 and answered it with 3, or just that romans 3 over rides romans 2.” What’s odd to me is of all the countless Protestant denoms, why have none of you thought maybe works of the law and good works are different categories of works? Paul talks about works of the flesh, works of darkness, works of the spirit, good works, and works of the law. None of these are the same thing and paul never thinks that hes going to have to break down these categories for future christians who will confuse good works and works of the law as the same thing? In matthew 25… christ says: “for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me”. These are all good works. Not one of them is a work of the law… imagine christ saying “i gave you anson and you didnt circumcise him, i gave you food and you failed to wash your hands, depart from me” Adding works of the law into that passage doesnt just feel alien…. Imagine christ added “i was lost and you didnt look for me. It wouldnt surprise me at all. Its a good work. Please tell me you understand.

Thank God for our former episcopal minister who revealed she didn’t really believe the Bible was true and from the top down the episcopal church leadership condones, promotes, and even celebrates sins, such as; adultery via divorce/remarriage, murder via abortion/a woman’s right to choose, and homosexuality with many of the episcopal ministry in same sex relationships.
The more James White debates, the more Catholic conversions he will help foster among the increasing number of protestants who are open to considering the Catholic Faith. I watched all of White’s debates with Catholics in order to help me avoid converting. They did the opposite-and the reasons why are abundantly obvious in this debate as well.
What incredible objectivity for a Protestant church to host a debate and tell the faithful to come to their own conclusions. True faith should not fear controversy. Amazing
Catholics equate Mary and the Saints to God. They say and/or imply that they are omnipresent, which is an attribute that only God has. Please don't fall for it, they have false gods and a very false doctrine.
Billy, we welcome you with open arms, and pray that one day, we "may all be one as" Jesus and the Father are one (John 17). I pray that the Lord use you to draw many others like you back into the one and only Church that Jesus Christ himself founded. I think we are witnessing a tidal wave of conversions brought about by the Internet. It is no longer possible to claim that the Catholic Church teaches something when one can easily research to discover what the teaching actually says and means. That is why White's scare tactics just feel so dated and tired. What may have worked in the 80s simply doesn't pass muster today. Anyway, praise be to God. God's grace saves us as individuals and it protects and guides Jesus's Bride through the power of the Holy Spirit. Come, Lord Jesus!
This was not just a game changer but a game ender! As soon as James White admitted that the doctrine of sola scriptura is not scriptural it was all over. That was a very clever move by Jimmy Akin.
He stepped on a similar landmine in his debate with Trent Horn when he stated there was no agreement on the biblical canon prior to the reformation. Nuked his entire argument.

I am a former Reformed Presbyterian. I have watched all of White's debates. I used to cheer him on for simply being on "my side". Now that I am Roman Catholic and not blinded by prejudice, I see right through his cheap tactics. Somehow White's hatred of Mary and her dogmas always gets brought up no matter the topic. He was completely outclassed here in this debate. Jimmy Akin did an excellent job answering questions posed by James White, and Jimmy had James White stuttering multiple times while he was cross-examining him. It was great.
" I am former Reformed Presbyterian", people like to say things like that as if It means anything, but the truth is that in any given denomination 90% of Christians don't know almost anything about their traditional believes and how to defend them, including in Cathocism. And it says a lot to me when a former Presbyterian says that he used to get his apolegetics from Baptists, which is a whole different tradition (even if it is a 1689 Baptist) lol. White does not follow Presbyterian's Confession of Faith and Cathecism. It is like a Catholic saying that he used to learn from an Eastern Orthodox about his faith.
You may have changed denominations, but the “blinded by prejudice” stayed the same lol Everyone things their guy does good, just like u did when Protestant

It's concerning that James White didn't seem to want to stick to the topic. He brought up Marian dogmas, purgatory, papal infallibility, the Synod on Synodality, Fiducia Supplicans and implied in his closings that Jimmy Akin should have defended these things when none of these things were the topic of the debate. Akin by contrast stuck on point and focused on the New Testament and the immediate apostolic age
Exactly what I noticed as well: James White spent the majority of his time attacking Catholic dogma (with some ad hominems sprinkled in) without actually defending the doctrine Sola Scriptura, and he didn't even have the honesty to admit that he was assuming to be true what he had to prove, indeed he constantly begged the question.
You're correct. That's part of why Akin won on the merits. BUT, _Sola Scriptura_ isn't really winnable on the merits unless the opponent is an inferior debater, because it's an intrinsically self-contradictory and anti-historical Epistemic System. Given this, James White has gradually evolved a tactic which serves him well: 1. Pretend that hot-takes by the New York Times or various other leftists represent an accurate depiction of Pope Francis's papacy, and remind the audience of those caricatures, however inaccurate; 2. Bring up unfamiliar or oft-derided dogmas that the audience doesn't understand, to create a negative reaction in the audience for emotional-association reasons. That way, when your opponent wins on the _logic of the thing_ (as he will typically do, with _Sola Scriptura,_ given its deficiencies) you can still be sure that an awful lot of _the audience_ wasn't persuaded by the arguments, because they were already tuned out for emotional reasons. It's not good arguing, but it's a good ploy.
From what I heard Mr. White was bringing it up largely because Jimmy Akin was arguing for apostolic tradition thus White was responding with the point that these are not apostolic tradition but later developed doctrines. Catholics usually admit much of this. No Catholic to my knowledge has ever argued that Marian dogmas are apostolic tradition (instead they appeal to the theory of doctrinal development of Cardinal Newman and authority).
@Adam-ue2ig that's his logic yes, but it would've been inappropriate for this debate to turn into a Marian dogma debate when that wasn't the topic. If James White wanted to debate the Marian dogma, he should have debated that instead. There are still apostolic traditions not found in the Bible which protestants recognize, Jimmy identified 4 and James White only interacted with that argument when forced to during cross examination.
Did we watch the same debate? White literally claims that he wasn't "overloading" even though right after claiming that he says "purgatory, Marian dogmas, papal infallibility" when this debate is not about any of those. James was very dishonest as well, especially when he claimed that no one believed in papal infallibility because of Pope Honorius without including the context that the same exact council taught that all previous Popes (including Honorius) never taught heresy and cannot based on the promise of Christ which was completely affirmed by all attending. Please read the 6th ecumenical council and Pope Agatho's letter which was presented at the council and read allowed to all present and affirmed by all present. James simply lied.
White didn’t even go into the topic of the debate. His entire argument was a red herring because instead of trying to disprove the necessity of an infallible tradition he instead goes to attack Catholic tradition.
I've got a serious question that, as far as I know, never gets brought up in these debates. How could Christians conceive scripture alone as completely sufficient when for the vast majority of Christian history the average man could not read or get access the the number of copies of the Bible we have today? if the Bible was indented to be taken alone, traditions rejected and the church had no authority to teach the Bible then how could anyone except a very few educated people ever come to learn it?
@@fortknox4740 And that is what in fact happened...by Catholic Priests...I guess my point is that the common man needed to be able to trust what was being read and who was reading it.

@@scotthix2926 That's not how Church define the Doctrine. The Doctrine is defined by carefully looking at Holy Tradition & Holy Scripture bcz not everything is written in Holy Scripture bcz our Church Fathers is the one who compiled the Holy Scripture. ★ The New Testament canon was not determined until the late 300s, books the Church deemed sacred were early on proclaimed at Mass, and read and preached about otherwise. Early Christian writings outnumbered the 30+ books that would become the canon of the New Testament. The shepherds of the Church[Church Fathers], by a process of spiritual discernment and investigation into the liturgical traditions of the Church spread throughout the world, had to draw clear lines of distinction between books that are truly inspired by God and originated in the apostolic period, and those which only claimed to have these qualities. Apostles didn't gave the Bible the Church did. ★The process culminated in 382 as the Council of Rome, which was convened under the leadership of Pope Damasus, promulgated the 73-book scriptural canon. The biblical canon was reaffirmed by the regional councils of Hippo (393) and Carthage (397), and then definitively reaffirmed by the ecumenical Council of Florence in 1442. ★The Old Testament books were written well before Jesus’ Incarnation and all of the New Testament books were written by roughly the end of the first century A.D.But the Bible as a whole was not officially compiled until the late fourth century, illustrating that it was the Catholic Church who determined the canon-or list of books-of the Bible under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Indeed, the Bible is not a self-canonizing collection of books, as there is no table of contents included in any of the books.
I think Dr. White has forgotten about the Orthodox. Scary Rome argument doesn’t really work against the fact that there are other Apostolic Traditions. He needs to realise no one taught sola scripture for 1500 years and it isn’t just Rome he is debating.
As a catholic living in a community that has several orthodox communities, I deeply appreciate your perspective, it’s always bothered me that so many of the “anti-catholic” positions are also anti-orthodox, but that never gets brought up and contended with.

Well, I am not saying that James is wrong at 43:26, But St Augustine did believe in the Seat of Peter. Here is one of many examples.:“For if the lineal succession of bishops is to be taken into account, with how much more certainty and benefit to the Church do we reckon back till we reach Peter himself, to whom, as bearing in a figure the whole Church, the Lord said: ‘Upon this rock will I build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it !’ The successor of Peter was Linus, and his successors in unbroken continuity were these: - Clement, Anacletus, Evaristus, Alexander, Sixtus, Telesphorus, Iginus, Anicetus, Pius, Soter, Eleutherius, Victor, Zephirinus, Calixtus, Urbanus, Pontianus, Antherus, Fabianus, Cornelius, Lucius, Stephanus, Xystus, Dionysius, Felix, Eutychianus, Gaius, Marcellinus, Marcellus, Eusebius, Miltiades, Sylvester, Marcus, Julius, Liberius, Damasus, and Siricius, whose successor is the present Bishop Anastasius. In this order of succession no Donatist bishop is found. But, reversing the natural course of things, the Donatists sent to Rome from Africa an ordained bishop, who, putting himself at the head of a few Africans in the great metropolis, gave some notoriety to the name of ‘mountain men,’ or Cutzupits, by which they were known.” To Generosus, Epistle 53:2(A.D. 400), in NPNF1,I:298
Here’s another where he mentions the Seat of Peter: “For in the Catholic Church, not to speak of the purest wisdom, to the knowledge of which a few spiritual men attain in this life, so as to know it, in the scantiest measure, indeed, because they are but men, still without any uncertainty (since the rest of the multitude derive their entire security not from acuteness of intellect, but from simplicity of faith,)- not to speak of this wisdom, which you do not believe to be in the Catholic Church, there are many other things which most justly keep me in her bosom. The consent of peoples and nations keeps me in the Church; so does her authority, inaugurated by miracles, nourished by hope, enlarged by love, established by age. The succession of priests keeps me, beginning from the very seat of the Apostle Peter, to whom the Lord, after His resurrection, gave it in charge to feed His sheep, down to the present episcopate. And so, lastly, does the name itself of Catholic, which, not without reason, amid so many heresies, the Church has thus retained; so that, though all heretics wish to be called Catholics, yet when a stranger asks where the Catholic Church meets, no heretic will venture to point to his own chapel or house. Such then in number and importance are the precious ties belonging to the Christian name which keep a believer in the Catholic Church, as it is right they should, though from the slowness of our understanding, or the small attainment of our life, the truth may not yet fully disclose itself. But with you, where there is none of these things to attract or keep me, the promise of truth is the only thing that comes into play. Now if the truth is so clearly proved as to leave no possibility of doubt, it must be set before all the things that keep me in the Catholic Church; but if there is only a promise without any fulfillment, no one shall move me from the faith which binds my mind with ties so many and so strong to the Christian religion.”
James lied multiple times in this debate. He cannot be trusted, you've just shown an example of him falsely claiming something that St. Augustine believed when he didn't. Another example is when the he brings up the example of Pope Honorius claiming that because he was excommunicated no one believed in Papal infallibility even though that same exact council AFFIRMS papal infallibility with Pope Agatho's letter which was read allowed and accepted completely by all present at the 6th ecumenical council. There are just two examples of him baring false witness or at the very least excluding context to work for his agenda. Anyone who knows about history knows that James told multiple lies. John 8:44 seems to me what James is following. Not the truth.
@@SevereFamine Just because Augustine believed that (I concede I don't know one way or another) doesn't mean the belief was shared amongst the Apostles or the early church. Without a solid scriptural basis (God's word) it's irrelevant to the body's well-being what Augustine believed if his beliefs were in error and detached from God's instruction, the Word.
I converted from generic protestant churches to the one holy and apostolic Catholic Church several years ago. James White just confirmed I made the right choice.
You guys are all copy pasting the same comment that James white made you catholic. Is that a tacit admission that the other guy did poorly and was himself not convincing enough?
I don't know why I even listened to these two characters but I had a long drive. Honestly I don't know the catholic guy but White I've heard and don't agree with his theology but he did fine in defense for Christianity. Catholic beliefs about the sacraments, the roles of the Bible and tradition, the importance of the Virgin Mary and the saints, and the papacy are contrary to what I know to be Christianity. I find way too much idolatry going on & justified. If you visit the vatican will you see any scripture on the walls? No, just statues and paintings and many are quite evil. Does this explain why the catholic church does not really support the Word? History showed us they didn't want us to have it & after the reformation they tried to smooth that one out. Mary, the rosary, the eucharist and the complete love for the church baffles me. The other stuff is not scriptural but man made the dedication to the church is more idolatry. The Church is the body of Christ not a building or particular denomination. We have always had false churches as we still do today. I have left a certain denomination after the Lord matured me in His knowledge of the Word. If I was a catholic & realized it was wrong where would I go? They claim it's the only church, I'd have to submit & justify it's wrongs. What I have is God the only Father through Jesus Christ who sits hand of the Father and has sent me his Holy Spirit. I have Christ in me & I in him because of that. The precious blood of Jesus Christ on that mercy seat is the blood of the final sacrafice. I can enter into the throne room of God now & make my petitions known, I don't need a church to do that, I don't need a man of flesh to do that for me, I won't give that to a priest, Jesus Christ was the last & final priest, God's Word is now written down by the power of God, He & He alone has made that happen. We are destroyed for a lack of knowledge so "I" will stay in His Word & constantly study it as lead by the Holy Spirit. I will also hear the Word of God by a pastor & preacher that I believe we're called. No traditions to follow except what is written and when something is said & done outside what is written it is time to Protest & leave. Unlike you I don't make choices on a single man especially when I have the Word, the Lord & husband Spirit. Especially could I not run to the catholic church that has not only bad history but doctrines of men & some I believe are doctrines of demons. I realize their is the human characteristic of those who prefer to be led, those who rather submit to man rather than God. In order to do that we need to have the ability to want to think for ourselves with the Holy Spirit. The man made doctrine of the justification of Mary should alert you. They claim Mary is not their mediator but they always go to Mary first especially the women. The way y'all adorn the statue, that doesn't tell you something? And what does that do to Christ, leaving him back there for later? The weak minded will always flow to something of the flesh or evil that will do all the work & thinking for them
Thank you Jimmy for that wonderful and clearly expalination,I love being a Catholic praise be Jesus Christ.. God bless you.hope many protestant fully understand and embrace the Catholic faith.
James White: I can't support or demonstrate the topic of the debate "Sola Scriptura", so let's talk about Pope Francis, Mary's assumption and Trent Horn.
That was powerful in the cross examination segment. Mr. White repeatedly asked questions to Mr. Akin, and Mr. Akin repeatedly rebuked him, the 4th time around Mr. Akin looked to crowd knowingly and then repeated that we were talking about a supposed thing in the future not something that has happened. Mr. Akin, you did an excellent job presenting your beliefs.
Well it helps to get the other anti-Catholics all fired up, like the host church. Did you notice that the moderator put in a plug for sharing the Baptist faith with the Catholics? Pretty cheeky.
I do too. It's because a different gospel is presented by the catholic church. If you studied your Bible, you would see this. The church sacrifices Jesus in mass weekly. This is abhorrent and blasphemous. Jesus died once for all and His righteousness placed upon us to present us holy before God. This is clearly written in Romans and seen throughout the Bible. The catholic church do not believe this. "Blessed is the man whose sins are forgiven; whose transgressions the Lord will never count against him."(Romans 4:7, 8). "we have been made holy through the sacrifice of Jesus body once for all. Day after day the priest offers the same sacrifices that can never take away sins." Hebrews 10:10- 14
@@vaekkriinhart4347 First, you should not hate another Christian brother/sister. We should pray for others. A different Gospel is not presented by the Church. Please read John 6, Jesus does not describe his body as a symbol to be offered up. We practice the Mass today the same way that the earliest Christians did. The offering of the Eucharist is the new passover and new covenant which is shown in The Last Supper as well. The Old Testament directly correlates to the New Testament.
He’s deceptive. He dodged the biggest problems with rejecting Sola Scriptura. You end up with wild doctrines like purgatory, praying to saints, worshipping Mary, believing bread is God and worshipping it, indulgences…should I go on?
So is James’s argument that because Mary’s assumption is false sola scriptoria is true. Sounds like he’s tired of debating sola scriptoria and wants to debate Catholic marian beliefs. LOL
James' error is much worse than that: He's arguing that a Marian dogma is unbiblical, therefore you should believe in the Bible alone! It's assuming his own conclusion. He would have to prove without the Bible that the Marian dogmas were wrong to illustrate the proof by contradiction he is trying to use, but he would only undercut his own position by doing so. If I learnt something, it was to talk politely with calmness and maintaining composure. Thank you so much Jimmy. It was a delight to listen to you. I learned a lot. Such debates are a great opportunity to learn so much about the true faith.
Jimmy couldn’t refute it, he deflected by accusing James of using a debate tactic and claiming he didn’t have time. This suggests White was not lying with the history.
James White is arrogant and has a long way to go. I am not Roman Catholic. I am not a Protestant either. Jimmy Aken has my respect he always has. He is a very smart man who seems to love the truth as far as I can tell. Glory to God for all things! ✝️☦️✝️
Weak arguments by James... Bringing Mother of our Lord Jesus in Debate just to prove his point not even the topic... James exposed the whole protestantism position.
The context of him bringing Mary and those doctrines up was Mr. Akins appeal to apostolic tradition so that presents fair game for Mr. White to argue that those doctrines are later developments not part of the apostolic teaching/tradition.
Why does James White always say, "Roman?" Doesn't he realize "Roman Catholic" is only one type of Catholic? There are a bunch of different Catholic Rites, with the Roman Rite being only one of them
I don’t think James White is referring to the Roman rite. When we call ourselves ‘Roman Catholics,’ it refers to submitting to the authority of the Bishop of Rome, also known as the Pope, Roman Pontiff, Patriarch of the West, etc. Catholics who attend the other eastern rites are also Roman Catholics.
I think he wants to Demonize us a bit. Ties us to the Romans... those that did the actual crucifiction. Because, in this mind if he just says Catholics, it just doesn't have that punch. But just a tiny opinion here.
I don't think James really engaged or refuted Jimmy's very straightforward argument. James agrees sola scriptura is a doctrine, and thus needs to be in scripture. But then also agrees that sola scriptura wasn't the paradigm until at least the second century which means it could not have been possible for it to have been taught in the New Testament. This seems to be a simply logical defeater of James' thesis, I don't see any alternatives out of it.
And not even in the second century, the bible was not finished until the five century (councils) so what happened in those 400 years? nobody entered heaven? lol no, not even the thief at the cross "needed it"

@jakeh2848 If Jesus is the truth and you cannot know what is NOT written about Him, then OBVIOUSLY, the ONLY way to infallibly KNOW ANYTHING Jesus said or did or TAUGHT is by the God-breathed holy Scriptures. Crazy how James White keeps appealing to his debate numbers as if they mean he won or something. It is a sophist technique and suggests an insecurity in his position.
In Romans 2 we read
7 to those who by patiently doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life, 8 while for those who are self-seeking and who obey not the truth but injustice, there will be wrath and fury.”
In romans 3 it says: “For no human will be justified before him by deeds prescribed by the law, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.” And “.

Oh my, it thought it would be bad but now I've watched this James White was absolutely destroyed. I started to feel embarrassed for him, especially in the cross examination.
Really beautiful that Jimmy standed and took his hat off for the prayer at the end. It shows that Catholics give great respect to prayers said in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ!

Jimmy Akin was amazing! Super grateful to be Catholic now! 😇🙏🇻🇦
White reduced Akin to the ultimate absurdity
The adults who were raped by catholic priests as little kids who commit suicide are not grateful to be catholic.
Were you RPCNA? I used to be RPCOI
Uh, why is pointing out Mary worship always equating to "hating" her.
So you got convinced of a false church narrative and invented dogmas that never existed in the early church till hundreds of years later ?
" I am former Reformed Presbyterian", people like to say things like that as if It means anything, but the truth is that in any given denomination 90% of Christians don't know almost anything about their traditional believes and how to defend them, including in Cathocism. And it says a lot to me when a former Presbyterian says that he used to get his apolegetics from Baptists, which is a whole different tradition (even if it is a 1689 Baptist) lol. White does not follow Presbyterian's Confession of Faith and Cathecism. It is like a Catholic saying that he used to learn from an Eastern Orthodox about his faith.
You may have changed denominations, but the “blinded by prejudice” stayed the same lol
Everyone things their guy does good, just like u did when Protestant
Jimmy is such a treasure. He brought me to the Catholic Church.
As a Protestant, very disappointed in James. His case was 90% “nuh uh” and “but Catholics say Mary was assumed into heaven” which was irrelevant. The question was not about papal infallibility, or Catholic doctrines. It was about sola scriptura.
Everything you described is classic James White.

Ooh I like it
Right! I feel so blind not to have seen it before!! John 20:22-23! How many times I have read it, and not seen that it is a response to the 2 Timothy 3 "God-breathed the scriptures" argument against including Magisterium and Tradition!
And they in turn lay hands on their successors, and they become divinely ordained ministers of the New Covenant Hierarchical Priesthood in Christ Jesus, in order to carry on the Preaching, Teaching. Practicing , Handing down the Gospel of Christ/Salvation, AND the Sanctifying and Salvific work of God in the world.
The apostles were eyewitnesses. Acts 1.
Yeah, and Jimmy still crushed him😂
@Adam-ue2ig that's his logic yes, but it would've been inappropriate for this debate to turn into a Marian dogma debate when that wasn't the topic. If James White wanted to debate the Marian dogma, he should have debated that instead. There are still apostolic traditions not found in the Bible which protestants recognize, Jimmy identified 4 and James White only interacted with that argument when forced to during cross examination.
James White is a better Catholic apologist than Jimmy is
Did we watch the same debate?

@@savagemode.no, sola does not mean solo. It means the church should define it doctrine on the basis of scripture not itself, which is what RCC does.

But, reversing the natural course of things, the Donatists sent to Rome from Africa an ordained bishop, who, putting himself at the head of a few Africans in the great metropolis, gave some notoriety to the name of ‘mountain men,’ or Cutzupits, by which they were known.”
To Generosus, Epistle 53:2(A.D. 400), in NPNF1,I:298
Amazing find. Thank you for sharing
Here’s another where he mentions the Seat of Peter:
“For in the Catholic Church, not to speak of the purest wisdom, to the knowledge of which a few spiritual men attain in this life, so as to know it, in the scantiest measure, indeed, because they are but men, still without any uncertainty (since the rest of the multitude derive their entire security not from acuteness of intellect, but from simplicity of faith,)- not to speak of this wisdom, which you do not believe to be in the Catholic Church, there are many other things which most justly keep me in her bosom.

Jimmy Akin was great, this guy inspires me to study the Bible more and become a stronger Catholic 🙏🙏

Yeah because he wants to be the authority

But just a tiny opinion here.
@AgnusDeiX Makes sense. Different senses of the same word.
I think he's trying to poison the well since Jesus was technically sentenced to death by the Romans.
Yup. It's like I say: If your hermeneutic precludes the first several generations of Christians, it might be time to rethink things.
And not even in the second century, the bible was not finished until the five century (councils) so what happened in those 400 years? nobody entered heaven? lol no, not even the thief at the cross "needed it"

The status of a book as scripture is determined by GOD
The premisse were clear. You cannot gave doctrine that opposes to bible. And Pastor White used as examples those false doctrines such purgatory and mariology cannot be accepted. Also, he said over and over "Jesus used the Scriptures as secure and supreme fount of knowledge of God's will".
James White's understanding of apostolic tradition is just untrue, and moronic. I was hoping for a good faith debate but he's pathetic.
Let's all reply like you did.
Let's keep it balanced. To say that James White was pathetic shows that you are NOT reasonable. They both made their points through scripture.
Keeping in the spirit of your argument. Let's also say that Jimmy was Pathetic.
@@polokucoch8112 White's points were awful, he did not even attempt to prove the resolution, he spent his tim painting "Rome" as the villain.
Jimmy instead actually stuck to talking about the resolution, and he successfully proved it's false.
It's clear as day that they did not approach the debate in the same way, White was constantly misdirecting the Audience with talks about "ooh Rome bad" knowing that Jimmy couldn't have responded, because it's a discussion about Sola Scriptura and he had prepared arguments about Sola Scriptura.
White even failed to deny convincingly Jimmy's proof that Sola Scriptura doesn't meet its own test, your position is just incoherent pal.
@@tafazziReadChannelDescription Are you DRUNK? What was the topic of the debate? It was on Sola Scriptura. Of course, James would prepare for that!! Are you seriously DRUNK? Just that fact alone tells me that you are waaaay off base.
Did you hear what James said? He said that Jimmy didn't even respond to the points he made and instead, Jimmy made a powerpoint slide that didn't address the points James made. How can you prepare a powerpoint rebuttal without knowing what your opponent is saying??? Again, Waaaaay off base.
And whether you believe in Sola Scriptura or not, if your powerpoint has virtually ZERO scripture to support or rebut arguments then that means that these are Jimmy's thoughts. That's the last guy I want to trust.
Dr. James White clearly defined Sola Scriptura. Whether you want to accept that or not is another matter.
I think this sums it up well :
Jimmy : "God guides the pope so that he doesn't make mistakes"
James White's response - "God guides the pope so that he doesn't make mistakes???"
My response : "Is Jimmy on DRUGS?"

So is overloading, which he absolutely did. The point of the debate is to talk about the topic not add new topics that the other person has no time to address. It poisons the well.

Wow what a burial, Jimmy Akin knew that James White would regurgitate the same arguments he has been arguing since the 90s
And summed up those arguments at the beginning and refuted them
Well put
Dr. White has immensely changed how he presents this topic, from the Bible being the " sole authority", to now being the default. Words matter.
I caught that at the beginning too. Pride is powerful.
... Sola Scriptura MEANS the sole INFALLIBLE rule of faith and practice... It's literally in the definition of the term.
He even states it in his opening statement.
You're conflating the two perspectives he said in his opening statement. Sola scriptura is the sole infallible rule of faith for the church. Sola scriptura is also the default position of scripture itself. Thats not an equivocation.
I noticed that. Basically his argument is that we can’t point to anything else.

This debate filled me with true, profound sadness realizing how many lies are believed by the Protestants about Christianity, as it has been lived and passed down by the one and only Catholic Church for two thousand years. I pray and hope for the reunification of Christians all over the world, that those fallen away may return home. God love you ❤
You worship a false Jesus who cannot save you, you believe you literally eat him to sacrifice him thousands of times a day because his crucifixion wasn't enough nor perfect, then you pray to Mary, call her the first sinless human being before Jesus Christ and make Jesus subservient to her and her whims. You're in idolatry and a slave to the corruption of Rome, you do not follow Christ, as Jesus says time and time and time and time again what you must do to be saved, is to believe and catholics add like 50 extra things to earn, lose, gain, regain and literally sell salvation and somehow you side with catholicism because they said "we are the true church because we have the authority to claim that"
Apostolic Succession and Tradition are doctrines of Christ, sola scriptura is a doctrine of men.

Why is it so hard to understand that Jesus is King? His kingdom is not of this world. We’re all temporary in this world. Jesus is King. He told Pilate. Jesus is King therefore, Jesus has a Kingdom. Jesus is King of the Universe. He left the keys to Peter, now Peter died, Peter will have a successor.
Mary is in Heaven, same as you believe that you will go to heaven if you are a loyal follower of Christ and without sin.
We are so lucky we have the Catholic Church all over the world uphelding the true teachings of Jesus. To be holy and make sacrifices and to love the other children of God. We are all sinners and keep making mistakes, but that is well understood. Jesus said He will judge you at the end, same as He will separate the sheeps from the goats. He said to eat His Body and He will live in us.
