Can a person become a Christian without the Bible? Obviously yes. There were Christians without a Bible in the first 400 years after Christ. They were taught by the Apostles and their succeeding bishops. God has always had a priesthood to guide His people to right worship of Him. The New Testament continues the Priesthood starting with Peter. The Priesthood has the authority and guidance of the Holy Spirit to interpret Scripture.

Time given to replyibg questions are too short. Thus many of the answers given by both parties are incomplete and frustrating to listen. I would think that both debaters did not fully answer all the questions and also questions arose from their incomplete answers. I hope that a better debating organizer would be used and perhaps an outstanding protestant christian apologetist would be invited to future debates.

It seemed to me that Mr. White was arguing against what most Roman Catholics have believed and I think many still do and Akin was bringing clarity to essential doctrines that Protestants and Catholics are in agreement or near agreement which both Protestants and Catholics arent always as knowledgeable about as we could be on which Mr. White was taking a very firm stance on and also not seeming to appreciate the progression that has been made. In spite of or maybe in part because Mr. White was very firm I think the underlying unity in Christ of all believers was being revealed. I see it as a win-win overall. I do agree that Mr. Akin seemed more gracious and I felt a tenderness of heart within myself towards him. Being a Christian Universalist from a Evangelical background now outside the institutional church and what many would call a "Buffet table" type Believer who has been influenced by teachings from the likes of Meister Eckhart, Karl Barth, Martin Luther, Tuomo Mannermaa ("Christ Present In Faith: Luther's View of Justification"), David Bentley Hart, Father Thomas Keating, C.S. Lewis, Robert Capon, Gene Edwards, George Fox, Hannah Whithall Smith, Anthony DeMello, Bankei, etc. I have a rather ecumenical outlook.

Wait, I came here looking for answers. Read the comments and saw a load of catholics throwing insincere, passive aggressive comments like "Thank God for James White. Because of him, I’m now a convert from the man-made Protestant religion to the Church Jesus established ". Yet this debate isn't as clear cut as those who have a bias towards their own views being right. I'm actually seeing Mr Akin, avoid answering very valid questions that Dr White is addressing. Instead of addressing them he's throwing out statements like " he's overloading". Ironically, he spent like 20-30 seconds wasting his own time to make this point. As someone who has an honest, sincere interest in Catholicism and is exploring it, all of your comments and what I'm seeing in this video aren't helping. It's like seeing how Muslims respond in the comment sections to debates on the trinity. Brothers, sisters - keep in mind that how you speak and conduct yourself online is acting as a representation to what you believe. So for someone exploring with a sincere heart, it's a bit of a turn off. Edit: I also find Mr Akin to be very lacking in grace and very condescending. Catholics make and bow down to statues. Bible says do not bow down to graven images (statues). Deut 4, Exo 20:4-5. 8. Catholics sprinkles “holy water”. But NT Church of the Bible mentioned nothing about “holy water”. There was no record of any Apostles sprinkling “holy water” on believers. Catholics claimed “holy water” came from OT. Yet Num 5:17 says “holy water” was water used to test adulterous women in OT temple. Hardly the same. Those were for Old Covenant Jews. Not New Testament Christians. 9. Catholics say Peter was pope - bishop of all bishops. Yet Bible says Peter was just a leader of the Jerusalem Church. Bible says nothing of the office of bishop of bishops. Gal 2:9, Mat 16:18. 10. Catholics say there is a seat of Peter. Yet BIBLE says nothing about it. Jesus said “not to lord over others”. 11. Catholics has clergy priesthood. Bible says clergy priesthood was done away with in New Testament. There is no clergy priesthood in NT. Heb 7:27, 9:12, 10:10. 12. Catholics preaches Works Salvation (faith + good works + partake R sacraments + submit to R pontiff + be in R Church + devote to Mary = to be saved). Yet Bible says “believe in Jesus to be saved”.
