- The ZTZ96A (P) is a Chinese tech tree main battle tank that currently sits at 9.7BR and comes in a premium pack that costs $60. I go over if I think that this tank is worth purchasing or not by going into how it plays, how good it is in certain categories, its strengths and weaknesses, and more. While this is certainly a powerful tank, some could make the argument that it isn't worth purchasing, at least not when compared to other MBTs, like the T-72AV Turms or XM-1. From personal experience, the WMA-301 is amazing! Only get it on sale though, when it's 50% off!!
I have a theory.
This tank was added to see how much interest there is in the Chinese tree. If it sells well gaijin will definitely put out a lot more Chinese vehicles in the future.
It was already proven with the WMA301, which is an 8.3 cancer machine due to the spam and OP gun.
The reason why china is behind most nations is because source language barriers, and their difficulty to acquire due to the confidentiality policy (according to Smin)
Chinela definitely has lots of tanks that can bee added. They could possibly be like one of the big three

Might be a point, but at the other hand i wont buy a 60€ tank for a nation with not even 3 good line ups and not one 11.0
FIRST they have to update the whole nation and THEN i might buy it
it is also worth adding that the apfsds which the ZTZ96 uses is not only has a little better penetration than the 3BM42 Mango, but it does much more damage after penetrating the armor
Can you provide proof that there's a damage difference?
Been playing quite a lot of 9.7 since the new update with ussr and I must say im really impressed b the performance of this thing. I havent been killed by one yet but its armor performs excellently against 3bm42 taking a couple hits on long range, maybe I just havent figured out where to shoot yet but so far this has been a pain to kill, i can only advise all non chinese players to check where they can destroy this tanks important modules reliably. Also thx for the great concize video as always, keep up the great content!
1 shot to LFP and its gone. Laser rangefinder helps alot.

Great video! This tank is being “generic” isn’t a downside, it means that at least from my experience it’s extremely versatile and the gun it uses is actually better performing than the turms making it better imo (yes the turms may be more survivable, but at top tier that doesn’t mean all too much since lots of the times you end up getting one shot anyways) . Also the crew members are spaced differently than the turms making it actually more survivable in the ztz96a
Definitely worth it if you want to grind out the Chinese tech tree, and it’s all around a good tank

It’s pretty good, but I prefer the 8.3 lineup for Premiums for CN for grinding. Much better lineup overall.
Th best way to describe this things speed is like: "Do you like to go 24 mph? Good, cause no matter what, you're gonna go 24 mph."
If you don't mind answering, why are you using the IR light? Wouldn't you just be giving your position away to anyone running NV?

Would you say T 72 turms or even leopard 2 PL is a better choice then this?
imo the t72turms is basically the same vehicle exept maybe armour? leopard 2pl is better because of dm53 and armour (i think)
Can you review the turm 3 next and also the Israeli merkava I know you already reviewed it but that was before the ground tree came out.
Turm III review coming out in a few days. Before that, though, I will tell you that it feels like cheating. Fully stabilized and a 5 second autoloader at 8.0 BR - AND it has a 30mm autocannon.

I might be able to, but I would need to figure out a way to do a full review of the tech tree in a relatively concise 10-15 minutes. Plus, I don't have access to every vehicle in the tech tree, so I would need to petition Gaijin for it, haha.

@@priv8_nobody359 I might for go the ztz then, is 6 armour looks amazing but lack of penetration is bad because it is the most vital in a tank. Thanks for helping!
@@MrPhoenixWT I know I’m late but the Ztz is really good. I have it and it can kill almost anything while also taking a lot of damage to the front.
Are Russian/Chinese tanks having only 3 crew members really that much of a downside to survivability? I've played China and Britain and I've found that usually, with the commander being sat directly behind the gunner on the challenger, if the gunner is going to die the commander will too whereas on Chinese/Russians they're sat on opposite sides of the turret which means you're always gonna have the gun up if one side gets taken out. They also don't have to worry about the reload being extended drastically by losing crew.
96A P looks great anyway, really enjoyed the Chinese ground tree!
Its mostly because of the weakspot of Chinese/Russian tanks are the driver's viewport which almost always kills the tank. The spalling more often than not kills both the gunner and commanader, and at the very least gets the breach.
Ive had harder times one-shotting Leos, Challies, etc. Not to say Russian armor doesnt eat my shells
@@tonsonlorencedanield true but all tanks usually have similar weakspots, Russian tanks usually have less of them and are much smaller though. I feel it's more useful to prevent the round penetrating in the first place before worrying about the damage it's going to do after it gets through which Russian tanks do better in war thunder imo.
Russian tanks are a bit wonky too, when they don't spall or the Fuel tank consumes the entire round. Also the challenger would be better if it didn't have ammunition everywhere in the hull begging to be shot lol.
@@bearisland7200 but overall i hate fighting russians at top tier. Sincerely a Japanese/German main. Also IFVs generally have it rougher against russian tanks (side armor)
@@tonsonlorencedanield I main Britain and I kinda like fighting Russia tbh, I've gotten decent at knowing the weakspots and I've found it satisfying to kill the breach on a Russian tank and watch them try to retreat at -2mph as I line up the second shot lol. The side armour is something I'd like though, it's impossible to side scrape in the challenger.
@@bearisland7200 exactly i find it funny when people say oh these Chinese and russian tanks got this large driver port weak spot and omg look their lower plate is such a weak spot LMFAO. its like they completely ignore the fact that basically, every single MBT from the other nations have completely useless upper AND lower frontal plates. making russian and Chinese tanks THE best-protected tanks from the front period.

Well yes, but it depends on the tech tree you want to go with. I don’t have Chinese top tier so I like the ztz 96 right now
This is pretty much a Chinese turms, similar ammo pen and armor values, I wonder if the us and Germany will get a 9.7 premium as well
The US already has a 9.7 premium but no skill noobs make it sit at 9.3 lol
@@TheTryingDutchman so compared to this thing and the TURMS the XM1 is no where near 9.7. Worse thermals, prodection, reload, penetration and no smoke launchers the only thing that it is better at is mobility.
@@gef5133 So couple things wrong with that:
1) Mobility is the most META aspect a tank can have in War Thunder you're underselling that. Also, the T-72AV TURMS and this ZTZ-96 have pretty dogshit mobility for 9.7 vehicles.
2) Reload isn't worse, it's the same/better depending on crew skill.
3) XM-1 also has superior survivability.
4) XM-1 also has superior turret traverse.
5) XM-1 also has superior gun depression.
Anyways, XM-1 is fine at 9.3, the T-72AV TURMS and ZTZ-96(P) are mediocre at 9.7.

ZTZ96 ap feels like a t72 turms with much better frontal upper plate but much worse FCS

@@cristobalalvarez5491 T-72AV has a piss poor UFP, its only the basic T-72A array with some Kontakt-1 slapped on it, a Leo A1A1 L/44 can lolpen the UFP.
@@roadhigher turms blocked a couple of 105mm dm33 from my Japanese vehicles, i wouldn't call that piss poor.

@@roadhigher You would be right if it was not for the fact the ZTZ-96 has a huge LFP that makes the UFP protection irrelevant most of the time. While Turms LFP is extremely tiny making turms the more armored tank despite its UFP being slightly weaker.
this thing is better than the Turms. It's better reverse speed. Better armour and Era (basically chinese copy Contact 5).
And it has more capable team mates.
Turms have huge issue, its low win rattio coupé evwryone has it and quit hangar after they die once lol

they shoulda gave Britain a proper premium tank instead, why the fuck give china something and not Britain? The british line is such a slow grind and the best tank uses wheels and has no armor! I do love the rooikat but its not good and if you didn't buy the Sho't Kal Dalet before they removed it from Britain well you only got the rooikat to grind with now

If you mean it should be placed at 10.0, that's absurd.
It's basically mediocre at everything, and placing it at the same BR as a T-80B, M1 Abrams or higher than a Leopard 2K is laughable.
Both the T-72AV TURMS and this thing are really, really quite mediocre tanks.
