What's that big azz screwdriver for?.. Knockin food out? Last time I saw one of those was back in the 60's and we used them to tighten hi voltage A/C wires to the house 🏠😁
I have had fun diagnosing some interesting problems as well like a aftermarket a/c system having a parasitic drain every 128 ms it would spike causing a battery to die in a few days (bad a/c ecu circuit board). As well as a blower fan going nuts because of a resetable fuse. Keep em coming
I had a mid seventies XJ6 in for wiring problems. Most of the wires in it were tan with different color tracers. All the tracers were no longer visible and many of the relays didn't have a unitized connector. Just individual spades. Someone else had pulled all the wires to the relays under the dash for the lights chasing a parasitic draw. Right after that one, I worked on a mid fifties Jag. One of the ones with aluminum instead of copper in the harness. Multiple breaks in the harness with no damage to the tan insulation... The whole harness was like a massive fuse link. Count your blessing! Just say no to Jag ;-) When I saw your purple wire that was actually blue I had a flashback. I have to go to the bathroom now.

@scannerdanner talk for a minute on how you or those with sharp diagnostic skills charge for their knowledge and repairs. I've been taught coming up, that you if you are the 3rd or 13th guy that's looked at an issue, and you are finally the 1 who has the training, knowledge and ability to diagnose and fix a problem no on else could you should write your own check (to an extend). I think in this modern world of most being parts cannon loaders, this is the correct way. I teach my Techs that if you train and get yo that level of confidence and results in your diagnostics, I'll charge every penny I can for you in those situations. Your thoughts? Thanks for the continued great content.
I just had a an 05 Ford freestyle with I intermittent throttle body codes. I spent my hour trying to recreate the problem with no luck. The customer decided to try a throttle body based on codes. Well a couple of days later car is back. I was finally able to recreate problem after 2 hours driving. I had what looked like secondary ignition waveform on my ground circuit at the tps. Turns out number 2 ignition coil was bad. We charged 3 hours diagnostics and a coil set of plugs. I think he got a bargain. You will not find that in any flowchart.

So close on the like count! But 12k views and only 903 likes? WTF, peeps! Get clickin'! 😁 See I never would've thought a trunk latch would cause a parasitic draw. Back in the day, you'd have got some real funny looks if anyone suggested that, lol! Long before there were motors, wires, and modules related to a latch. My mind is forever in those days. So difficult to get my mind out of that era! I think part of the reason I lose my patience so quickly doing interior work is the fact that I'm not 20 anymore, lol. Used to be able to contort myself in any position to fix whatever I needed to. Now I grunt and groan worse than you were (you're in alot better shape than I!), and I'm swearing my head off trying to reach whatever components I need to reach. Then there's the fact that nobody engineers anything to be intuitively disassembled anymore. On alot of vehicles, you need service data just to remove a dash panel to keep from shattering it in 6 pieces. There I go ranting again! Anyway, I'll be watching for part 2. Great stuff as always, Paul & Caleb. Camera is SWEEEET!! Perfect for this kind of work. You can make a 22 gauge wire look like a 2-ought wire, LOL! Awesome. Customer drives a Lincoln, trunk not closing completely, water gets into the trunk, why did they not just replace the trunk closer? Solves the water-in-the trunk issue, it may solve draw issue, if the trunk closer turns out to be the cause and the car would not be in the shop for this draw issue. To me, for a Lincoln owner, money should not be an issue to put off simple repairs. How much does a battery cost compared to the trunk closer? Is the closer a $1000 + part ?
I should have watched the entire vid before my commenting [above]. Of course, if they had replaced the closer and the trunk still did not close [parts changing], then maybe we would be where the video ends. I wonder where the dead battery issue started in relation to the trunk issue?
Scanner Danner! Where do you get your service data? I have heck trying to find service manuals for my cars! I need service wiring data as you show in your video! Also, can I buy a $50 license and update my car software as you did? I am an old gear head, and former radar tech, advise me !
WARNING! MKZ's have a $25 piece of plastic shield installed under the corners of the upper trunk lid. The water leaking into the vehicle inside the trunk issue is caused by water leaking through the cheap round plastic push tabs., which under heat, frozen weather, etc, pull away from the body of the car, allowing water to drain into the trunk. Why Lincoln would install a piece of plastic in the water channel for the "look", and not waterproof the push tabs that hold it in place is the destroyer of all electronics. On the passenger side of the upper corner of the trunk lid, the water will drip directly onto the audio amplifier, killing it eventually. On the driver side, it drips, on the hybrid, dangerously close to the Liftgate control module. Lincoln, in a confirmation of stupid, drilled holes into the water channel, held it in place by push tabs only. You have to remove both of the plastic pieces, clean the entire area and properly seal, with a proper adhesive, (I used 30 year rated black silicon high stretch sealant) and with additional sealant when you install the push tabs, this will prevent the water channel draining into the trunk.
For something with decent module coverage and bidirectional controls, you are going to be at least $1000. Since I don't use these scan tools, the OTC Encore is the only one I do have but it is just too damn slow between the time it takes between screens. I'm used to fiber optic speed and it takes me back to dial up BUT it is capable if you have patience

RUclips doesn't stream in 4k and we didn't render the final video in 4k, but shooting in 4k gives us so many things that we can do while keeping the video quality at maximum. Unfortunately on this one (first time using this camera), we didn't have the audio dialed in the way we wanted it. It will be better the next time.
ScannerDanner render in 4k bud. Although you have a massive following. RUclips will always put a 4k video before a 1080, if both videos were identical in every other way. Even if you shoot in 1080 I'd suggest rendering in 4k due to RUclips's compression
RUclips doesn't stream in 4k at least as far as I know? The advantage of shooting in 4k and rendering in 1080 is it allows us to zoom on screens with zero loss of quality.
ScannerDanner trust me bud, there's a HUUUGE difference. As things progress, those rendering in 4k are a step ahead of the technology curve. Once everything else catches up, you'll be right where you need to be. I couldn't see a real difference until i went full 4k with all my stuff(apple tv, and actual tv) Quality will still be phenomenal regardless, but there's absolutely zero negatives to rendering at 4k. You are spot on with the zooming in part. Either way, love the new production level!

I need some advice please!! My car is identical to the Lincoln that SD just did. I had the battery replaced at Sam's club a month ago. A few days later I had to check engine light in my car wouldn't start with the push button. I then began getting several communication issue codes. Last week they told me that I needed to replace the fuse box under the hood. I went to pick up my car todayand now they are telling me that I need to replace the PCM and BCM!! How can a computer and 2 fuse boxes fail simultaneously? It's at the dealer, I don't have $2000, and none of this makes any sense. Could someone who knows this stuff please give me some advice? Thanks
Personally i don't like to use current clamp on Parasitic drains. Its so easy to get miss info from it that its just waist of time in my mind. Its great tool when you don't need it to be low accurate current measure, but on Battery drain its so easy for it to give you middle finger that its not even funny. Today i use dvom with removable front face. That whey you can look at your reading and count on it what ever you do. That is if the there is no high current spikes in there to mess it up and blow the fuse in metter.

Hi Paul do the verus scanner gives the diagrams.
Danner good job
So how accurate is the large jaw low amp clamp from pico? I've been looking for a larger jaw low amp option.
**Son, your gonna drive me to drinkin' if ya don't stop diagnosing that hot rod Lincoln**
lol
nice video as usual Bananadanner :)
Man what city are you in? I'm having this problem 😢😢 Battery keeps draining! Please help!
some trunk buttons require you to hold button for 2 seconds to pop the trunk
thanks!
I got 4 likes in there, I wonder how many channels :yt: will let me start LOL
Paul danner what is a decent affordable scan tool for a diy?
For something with decent module coverage and bidirectional controls, you are going to be at least $1000. Since I don't use these scan tools, the OTC Encore is the only one I do have but it is just too damn slow between the time it takes between screens. I'm used to fiber optic speed and it takes me back to dial up BUT it is capable if you have patience
You need the optional Trunk Monkey!
Danner & Danner? Thought it was Abbott & Costello, lol.
SD, do u know of a source for diagrams outside of snap on?
mitchell ondemand, alldata, bbb industries (free) to name few!

Thanks for the info! ScannerDanner troubleshooting book owner here!
We are 320 likes away from part 2. Tell your friends lol
4k yeah baby
The advantage of shooting in 4k and rendering in 1080 is it allows us to zoom on screens with zero loss of quality.
just looked at your channel and I was wrong! They do stream in 4k, but to be honest, I could not see a difference between that and 1080.
ScannerDanner trust me bud, there's a HUUUGE difference. As things progress, those rendering in 4k are a step ahead of the technology curve. Once everything else catches up, you'll be right where you need to be.
I couldn't see a real difference until i went full 4k with all my stuff(apple tv, and actual tv)
Quality will still be phenomenal regardless, but there's absolutely zero negatives to rendering at 4k.
You are spot on with the zooming in part.
Either way, love the new production level!
Yes from Aleskyfinis
Thank you Danners cubed. Good job. Have a blessed and safe week. Like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like 😁. Do these count?
Did JD play Hamish in the movie Braveheart? 😆Just add kilt
Is SD premium worth it?
I'll let others answer.
I was hoping people would, eager to learn more about auto electrical and your free content is hella good so id assume premium content is even better
What is the part number on that amp clamp
It is listed on my tools page (link in the description)
You know what mean? 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍📌
FordTechMakuloco just did a similar video on this.
that is what I am hearing in the comments, thanks!
You. Better learn how too shoot video before your son moves out. Or pay for this master of video media.
Yes, an awesome job of camera operation.
I once dropped my phone into a running engine while recording, it fell just next to the engine fan, hanging by the charge cord. I thought it was funny, so I took another sip of my cold snack.
btw, Caleb does work for me now. It is his full time job and unfortunately I pay him so much that he's moving out in Sept and getting married :-)

That is awesome, 👍👍👍
I must be getting old, who says awesome anymore. 😆
Haha me! All the time
Wow I never noticed that the pins aren’t drawn in order on those wiring diagrams, I wonder if that ever gave me trouble without realizing it lol
If it is a partial view (dotted box) of a component, they will always be that way. A full view (solid box) will be in order.
ScannerDanner got it, thanks. I’ll have to keep that in mind in the future
@@jonathanhart54 it really cleans up the diagram when they only include what's relevant to the circuit you've looked up. Hence the partial views
I’m so confused.. so was it plugged in or not
It came in unplugged for my brother. Part 2 will clarify things. We have a no com to deal with now
I know.. it’s getting interesting
Can’t wait for part 2 plus lmao for the dumb & dumber comment
Also I hope your not going down the rabbit hole with the whole latch thing I mean your already know the end result but just seemed like you followed the helpful hint too fast instead of following your routine
It happened to me the other day @ work I should have just done my normal diagnostic routine but I jumped the gun and chased my tail for a day lol
Thanks
And I have a really bad parasitic drain
How was it for the next two days after the battery was replaced? Did it get some battery terminals replaced?
4A worth of parasitic draw just because the BCM can't talk to the trunk module... ouch! I'll stick to cable-release and a dumb light switch.
ZZ Top?
😂😂😂👍👍👍
ford tech macoloco has already done a vid on lion trunk parasitic draws.
So I'm hearing in the comments. Thanks, he does great work too
this is kind of like "beavis and butthead" lol
Waiting for the part 2. Sir
What does CAN mean in a CAN network?
Communication Area Network. Just a fancy term for the data network that all the modules talk on
CAN = Controller Area Network
