The power window switch was changed the next day at the shop and I double checked the draw with her OBDII dongle (from Progressive not a sponsor) plugged in and it settled at 38ma. Dongle unplugged it was 9ma. Problem solved 😉. Remember folks, follow the data and you will get to the answer faster than Google, guessing, past experience, common failures or just flat out guesses. The data/facts never lie!

Hey Mr O
Mrs.O looks gorgeous like always we want that food channel tell her!
Window switch or lock switch?
@@met6490 i guess i overlooked that. Makes sense now
Got to love those Hondoos Watching this while waiting for mine to enter sleep mode to check for a draw. Thank you for all the great videos learned tons from them!
Heavy Equipment field mechanic here, 25 years experience, dealer trained, dealer certified, and even carry d1 welding certificate. I have watched This channel for 2 years and only click the like button when I learned something, I have never not clicked the like button. This channel teaches so much, Mr O is a good mechanic, but a master teacher. In life we never stop learning and I am amazed that all this knowledge is here for free. I hope people take advantage of the teaching that Mr O and others offer. One day they might realize how valuable it really is!
Kevin, sadly many of Mr. O's viewers will not have the level of appreciation that you, or I, or several others have for the absolute "Gifts" he bestowes on the masses. It pains me to know that, and yet he willingly gives. We cannot stop him from giving away his knowledge, it's in his nature....We can only hope they give something back, by supporting him any way possible, and keep him off the street where Mrs. O can keep an eye on the lunatic. -Cheers!
Great replies Kevin and Daniel I am in the same boat. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, there are so many that boast how long they’ve done something for and that they shouldn’t be questioned because of this but there are many times and people that I’ve worked with over the years that yes, they’ve been doing it for a long time, but have been doing it wrong. Eric is a rare breed and lots can learn from him. Glad that’s he’s from little ole Avoca, proves that you don’t have to be from some recognized giant corporation to show someone a thing or two.

I hear his head swelling all the way to Ohio from NY :))
I will say i already knew how to do this stuff...from SMA ..ans Pine Hallow Auto ..and Scanner Danner .. yep all free and I love it..gain more knowledge from these channels then 2 years in tech school
It's always a ray of sunshine when Mrs. O. makes an appearance.
She's prettier than he is. 😂😂😂
You've been married a while and are smart in non-mechanical fields, there was no hesitation to answering the "don't I look beautiful every day" question.
I was blown away when you said you might not get the job! After being able to figure out the problem, I would not only have you replace the switch, but going forward you be my new full-time mechanic!
All those marks on the switch were from someone using a coat hanger to unlock the door when the lady locked the keys in.
Aha! I was trying to figure that one out. Thanks! I could only assume it was damage from someone else trying to figure it out.
Pull the switch apart & repair it, "Russian style"!
No parts required!
@@TreyCook21 you are absolutely right. I locked my keys in my car and had to call a service. That's what my window switch looked like after they got my door open. Next time I'm calling a locksmith. They scratched the crap out of plastics and the switch.
I thought Honda's had a thing where you had to lock the driver's door with the key to prevent that from happening? They used to have this anyway years ago.
@@loopy4517 I've had 2 experiences with locksmiths that literally just did the same thing with a metal coat hanger like grabber, still scratched the switch, would suck in my current car if I locked keys in, the button is on the side by the door handle lol
Dr. O has been killin’ it lately. Best mechanic out there.
I’d qualify your statement with “...on RUclips”. There’s many mechanics around the world as good. Not taking away from EO’s rep. It stands on its own 2 feet.

@CJ Malone Do a video so we can pick yours apart as well.
The essential tool every mechanic needs is a good power of observation. You are amazing.
NAPA Legend - still not a sponsor. 😂🔧
BUT................AFAIK, the NAPA sign is still on the shop????
lou faiella Yeah, I guess some kind of in-house standing joke. I’m guessing it’s just that NAPA will deliver there if the owner will put up the provided sign. Just a guess.
Napa will deliver to anyone with a commercial account with them. Eric pays less than the average walk-in joe for his parts because he's proven that he will buy a lot from them, and because they anticipate that A: his returns will be lower because of competence, B: because they will make up the discounts with volume of sales, and C: They anticipate that he will apply his own markup to the parts as part of his own bottom line.
Lammergeier350 Interesting! Thanks for clarifying that. 👍🔧
I love that you picked up that the horn didn't beep. Good situational awareness.
Also he caught the driver's switch not working, but the passenger one did.
Did the horn beep after disconnecting the harness?
As HVACR VIDEOS would say "big picture". But also notice that he ignored that until his diagnosis started to point toward that module. Otherwise, he might have spent time trying to fix things the customer didn't care about.
In the electronic world,I always called it "Milking the system." for clues. You need to know what works or doesn't work, to find direction in your troubleshooting.
@@stealthg35infiniti94 and to add to that you have to also know how it’s “supposed to work”. I work with guys that don’t even know how the thing operates and the features it has. Makes it hard for them to know if anything is even wrong during the test drive.

Your troubleshooting techniques (thinking logically and following the data) and whiteboard presentations skills are actually... far better than a frightening large percentage of my colleagues. Which is really saying something, considering that I work at a high tech company in Silicon Valley where everyone has engineering degrees. Love watching your show, I’ve learned a lot!
Fine products of years of university. America has lost so much 'common' sense on every level.
Thats cause, those are government brain washing camps
"There's you're problem, lady" -Eric O. Love this
This is way better than how I was taught by my automotive school instructor
Was your instructor also a Dorman parts salesman?
He is a lot better than any teacher I ever had.
Nothing beats learning from an experienced mechanic. Thanks for the knowledge
Experienced doesn't mean knowledgeable in many cases. But in Eric O's case, it does.
Man you are great at diagnosin problems thats why you're the Dr!
More like professor legend he should have doctored certificate sometimes I would get frustrated 😤 with diagnostic problems.a powwr probe is an amazing thing and a multimeter to get the job done.👍

Mannnn, so refreshing to find someone that knows about so much about the cars electrical system. I love troubleshooting this kind of issues and never had any help. So, I had to learn the hard way which help me get and understand everything so much better.
Was watching this on the TV and the wife asked me "Is that AVE?"
I said "no, why you ask?"
She replied "Because he was drawing a nipple on that paper"
I'm dead 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
As always, you are one of the best troubleshooters I've come across and I spent my career in automotive (software, electronics, and electrical).
Me too. I work on electric forklifts every day now for 25 years and use these techniques but also have learned a couple tricks from Eric and I’m telling you he’s a rare breed there really aren’t that many good electrical trouble shooters out there and some will just never be able to get there because of years of bad habits and inability to get any further than where they are right now. Not trashing anyone just stating “observations” as he would say.
I suffer a big parasitic draw every April 15th.
This was helpful! Thought I had a parasitic drain, but turns out only 15ma being drawn. From my tests, current was back feeding to alternator while engine off and diode(s) seemed to be blown. Pulled it and had it tested. Was right. Got new alternator. Will install tomorrow.
I love these kinds of video on battery dies over night and no crank no start. I’m not mechanic but love to watch it
I used to use a test light in series from the negative cable to the negative battery post If the lights comes on you know you have enough drain to make the battery go dead. Pull the fuses one by one till the light goes out. Mr O went further and followed the drain to the exact circuit causing the draw. Nice and efficient job Eric
I would love to see customer reactions to your videos. Just see them realize what was wrong and what went into finding the issue.
Mr. O the science teacher, follow the data trail. Mrs. O is always a ray of sunshine on your channel.
I always called it "chasing wild geese". or a wild goose chase. that trips up a LOT of people....also... the "unknown black box" people get off track that their problem just has to be that and they miss something very simple, end up getting a new black box and that don't fix nuthin.... and this way of thinking works will most anything electrical when being trouble shot. I actually taught this in an apprentice class I taught. I was an elevator repairman (40 years of it) ... now retired fleet bus mechanic.... old gray haired guy..lol love watching the videos!! Thanks... never too old to learn!!
The sad part about an awesome diag/repair like this is all the customer asks is “Why did it take you so long just to replace my lock switch?”
Yes Mrs O always looks beautiful...
I know nothing about auto repair. I just spent almost 30 minutes on this and loved it!
Man, spotting that horn honk being absent and going to the lock switch was a thing of beauty. Powerful deductive skills there. Great class. I've watched this video a few times now and I have taken down the target diagram in my notes. I just hope I can pull it off when the time comes. Thanks Eric!
That was an awesome tutorial and I greatly appreciate it. Love when you get all whiteboardy on us. Thanks Dr. O!
Haha- “The Legend “. I say the same thing when I install one. Only better saying is “Duralast”. That darn commercial is locked in my mind.
HI ERIC,I once had a parasitic draw, then i divorced her and got another model with LESS draw BUT way higher MAINTENANCE!!!
Then low and behold ,WE had and ACCIDENT !! and now WE have 2 more smaller parasitic draws,ALMOST like horns that get stuck in the on position.I'M now looking at just calling for AN UBER driver, only when i feel the NEED.I think it will be less costly in the long run, haha
Eric your diagnosing skills are awesome! I look forward to your videos each time you put them out. Keep up the GREAT job!
Good video!Crazy parasitic draws drive me crazy! Oh, +1 on Mrs. O!! Love her long hair!
Fantastic job great class teacher!
I got it this time 😉
All the right steps in this class !
You rock tech ..... Mr O !!!
The commentary on this channel is priceless. Thx for keeping me amused and the educational stuff.
In all the years turning wrenches I never could fathom how some so called attomobeel teknishigans could fuck up a wet dream working on someone's vehicle be it a car or motorcycle and deliver it to a customer without a bit of care or concern about the quality of their work and the safety of the person(s) operating it. Thankfully I was taught by and listened to the "old school" techs. You can do the best job in the world but leave a greasy fingerprint on the dash or door handle and that is what the customer will see and bitch about, not the quality repair you did. God I love this job!! Eric, you are without a doubt one of the best I have seen and an excellent teacher and roll-model for the newer generations of technicians coming up. If they absorb any of this info, well that's a different story....... Greetings from Nastyville,Tennisshoe!! See Ya!!......
Nicely done, sir! 👍👍
I'm a Computer & Network Tech and use very similar processes to track down and resolve issues. It's pretty interesting seeing other techs using a similar process and you stepped us through your logic quite well. Thanks! 😁
Great video as always. Thank you for this one.
Well done, clever observations, and playing a hunch(based on obvs) to get straight to the problem.
I have always taught my students that without a scan tool you can NOT be a great auto electric tech. Data Data... and know what your looking at.. Awsome video keep them up.
But he *did not* use a scan tool here, only a multimeter with graphic display.
@@davecc0000 at 14.10 min in you see the scan tool in the seat.... and a few min after he see door lock said on and should have been off

Suddenly I have this idea to think of issues in my life as concentric circles! Thanks, Dr. O! 😁
Again you have shown how difficult auto electric can be, but you are an extremely logical troubleshooter and through diagrams and great meters and scanners you mage it look easy. Thanks Eric.
I had a parasitic draw diagnosed but unable to fix. Draw was confirmed to be my wife.
Well, you know, once you've found which component is responsible for the draw, junk the old component and in with the new :)

@Chuck Kirchner WOW I know if I divorced my parasitic draw it would cost me A LOT!
DC clamp meter is much better at reading current draw than connecting meters in series and risk blowing an expensive fuses
He used the clamp meter to make sure the draws would not overload his meter internal fuse. Then went to the meter for accuracy at such a low draw. That's what i understood.
@@davecaselli1957 you can get clamp meter with 10mA accuracy for very cheap. so even bother with attaching other meters in series?

hi just a idea if you put a 5 amp fuse in the test line it will save your meter fuse blowing scott in uk
Even better, if you have a 5 amp draw. they have those 7.5 amp fuses which are easy to find. You can probably even do 10 amps if it is a fast blow fuse and the meter uses a slow blow fuse, but that still puts the meter fuse at risk. Easiest, just get a clamp meter like he suggested and not worry.

Yes to more parasitic draw fixes! Thanks for another great video.
most drivers dont know leaving a battery in a state of discharge destroys it pretty fast.
Because the acid starts eating at the terminals. That's what some chargers do with "desulfating" options - it uses electrolysis to try and break the corrosion up off the terminal plates - usually does not work. Just a gimmick.
Great. The money you "may" save on insurance being snitched on can go towards a new battery/repair work.
It blows my mind how our society can be so easily brainwashed to give up their privacy!!! Those things creep me out!

Some of those 7th gen accords did come with a group 51 battery. They did seem out of place because the plastic shield would be for a group 35 as well as the hold down.

Progressive snapshot. For their insurance. Their insurance is tracking the driving habits.
Mine would at least triple if they didn’t dump my policy.
Had one and it was terrible. It thinks you're driving in a perfect world. Here in NJ that shit ain't happening. It would beep at least a dozen times a day.
So when I switched to them because I was paying too much for a vehicle that isn't operated 5 or 6 days a week on average. They even made use it but I told them I didn't drive the truck. Well they soon understood. When the truck only drove like 60 miles a month. Its a 2016 and only has 35,000 miles on it.
what have they been using on the door-switch, a claw-hammer?🔨
Wear and tear is a powerful force.
The state of that switch would of had to be an observational note on the initial walk thru just like those fuses under the hood. Somebody or something (claw hammer) had been there before. Actually compared to the rest of the door and interior that switch looked like a replacement from another vehicle.

Thank you for this method. It will really help me in the future. Sometimes when I get a current draw vehicle to fix I get really mixed up.
