I'm replacing 2 window motors because they went out within a month of each other and I chose not to use the others. I thought the window fell out of the track/holder (happened on my older autos). When I went in to fix it I found a mess of wire coming out of the motor. Asked my brother-in-law about it because he has had several of my make and model and he said they wouldn't have done that had I kept my tracks lubed as this video suggests. Well I never knew it was a thing. So after replacing them I am going to clean lube them just like this video instructs. Thanks Sweet Project Cars!

I hadn't really given a thought about making sure that you exercise your power windows like this - to help keep the motors from going bad. Been there, done that - replacing the motors is NOT a fun time! So I shall add this to my list of things to do on our mini-van. And after driving down to Florida and back and experiencing the "love bugs" I think that I shall invest in a removable screen / bra for the front of the car so I can remove it and clean it. Right now the headlights need a good cleaning - just like you've taught us in the past. Cheers, Mike.

Just tried this trick out, and it 100% worked for my window! My passenger window rolls up as fast as my driver side now. I was hoping this would also fix how my window is slightly crooked when fully rolled up, but that's probably a different issue.
Just did this, windows work like new. Only we skipped a few steps. We used a thin cloth over a plastic trim panel remover and stuck that between the rubber, moved it up and down to remove the dirt. Then sprayed inside deep between the rubber using dry silicone with a tube/straw attached, then rolled the window up and down a few times and all the windows are good as new.

I changed the motor assembly in all the windows, except the drivers, in a 97 Honda accord. With the new motors, the windows moved very slowly. Now I know why the motors burned out. I need to do what you have suggested, maybe twice. Thank you.

I don't have a window problem but it's great to learn something anyway! Would love to see what you do behind the door panel just in case haha I have a coupe which has frameless Windows ;)
The window tracks are an important component to keep clean and lubricated, but newer vehicles that have cable operated regulators also have metal slide rails that need to be lubricated and the steel cables that pull the window up and down also need to be lubricated. Rubbing a wax candle on the cables does an excellent job. These steps do require disassembly of the door, but the motor and regulator will outlast the life of the vehicle.
We use this now on all of the cables/tracks tinyurl.com/bdf6a6ky it's a phenomenal lubricant and you are correct, the motor/regulator will outlast the vehicle doing this lube process! Thanks for the view and comment, have a great rest of your week my friend. mad Mike
Yo cuz ,another great tip ,when I detail some of my family or neighbors cars I'm going to do this for them weather they need it or not along with all your other great tips you shared with us all on detailing...YOU ARE THE MAN...can't THXX U ENOUGH ...KARL
WD40s PTFE Dry Lubricant. Guide the straw by running your fingers along the edges of the rubbers inner and outer so that the lube doesnt just go into the deepest bit of the groove but lube the sides too. For an even better job remove the door card and access the lower guides and lube those too. You may see down to them through the window aperture using a torch and this will save door card removal. Dont use regular grease or WD40 or any old lube. Use the dry PTFE type. An air gun is ideal to blow any tiny bits of grit out the runners too if the glass sounds a bit scratchy.
And the faster it rolls up the better because If someone reaches in to steal something while you’re at a light, the better chance you’ll have of locking their arm in and dragging them down the street.
Not trying to be rude any doing the lube might work but you are not getting enough of voltage to the window motors with the vehicle off. You should have the vehicle running. Most likely you will have about 13-14v when running under draw without running you might be 9-10
thank you very much, but the window did this weather the car was running or not...we talked to the customer about it and we were correct in our assumption, their son always sat in the back on the passenger side of the car so the back drivers side window was not used whatsoever that's why they all worked well but the one we did the video on. thanks my friend for your great comment

Doesn't matter if the vehicle is running or not. Same voltage go's through that circuit no matter what. Only difference would be if the battery was low and almost dead and you tried to run the windows while the engine was not running.
I thought the same problem but the window was operated under the same voltage both times. And having said that I am doing all my windows this weekend. 👌🏼
Hello All our Great Sweet Project Cars Friends! We have a great way to help take the load off your window motors by allowing the glass to move more freely and in turn last longer. We hope You enjoy and find great value in it. Have a great Weekend everyone. Also, Check out our Newest Channel for motorcycles... Sweet Scoots
As long as we are on the subject of power windows... I have an annoying issue that you may have a trick for! When it gets super cold out (Northeast Winters) my window likes to freeze shut. You have to wait for the cabin to warm up on the truck so the window "thaws" out and will go down. It sure would be nice just to hit the switch like summer time and have the window go down! Any suggestions? I am sure I am not the only one with this annoyance, maybe it's video worthy if there is a simple solution?
This vid should help with that freezing. It acts as a moisture barrier. Also make sure the rubber weather seal surrounding the upper window is well conditioned so as to NOT trap water to freeze.
I love your videos. I have a power window that goes down fine but comes up a few inches at a time. Any suggestions??? Ps- we love Rottweilers in our home :)
Gotta love it, how to make window fast but the line @2:40 "Now "YOU" take the special lubricant "WE" use and it is not an oil base by any means it is a dry lubricant" ...AND doesn't share what the lubricant actually is??? I could make out it's a product by WD40 but WTF couldn't manage to show it/or say the name of this "special lubricant" which I suspect is a major part of this "how to Video"
He did. It's wd40 dry lube. I guess if you don't know wd40 products it might be confusing but come on all you have to do is type wd40 dry lubricant into Google and bam there it is. Would have taken you alot less time to do that than it did to post this pointless comment. ☣️
Wow never thought of doing this! I’ll be trying this tomorrow on my weak 98 XJ windows see if I can get them moving faster! Thank you for sharing your tips!
@@SweetProjectCars like a good bit of your advice, I don't have immediate use, but try to file it away mentally for future use. This is one of those. It still squeals a little bit, but it goes up and down nice and smoothly now thanks to Capt. Mike!

We use this now on all of the cables/tracks tinyurl.com/bdf6a6ky it's a phenomenal lubricant and you are correct, the motor/regulator will outlast the vehicle doing this lube process! Thanks for the view and comment, have a great rest of your week my friend. mad Mike
I don’t believe my eyes

Sweet Project Cars
Thank you much appreciated.

Thank you Bernardo g we thank you for coming here to watch :)
An air gun is ideal to blow any tiny bits of grit out the runners too if the glass sounds a bit scratchy.
thanks for sharing
🤷🏽♂️And just think the whole time I
thought the saying was, "if you don't use it, you lose it"🧐🤣
Thanks for watching. Have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Both GM and Ford make a dry lube for body/window seal conditioning. Great stuff!
We found this tinyurl.com/bdf6a6ky and it's all we use now! Thanks for the view Scott, have a great week. mad Mike & team
And the faster it rolls up the better because
If someone reaches in to steal something
while you’re at a light, the better chance
you’ll have of locking their arm in and dragging
them down the street.
LOL, that is true!! Thanks for watching and for the chuckle this morning. Hope you have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Grind the legs off those thieves
I did this to my newish car and now the windows popped through the rocker panels that's how fast they went.
Sean
I always thought it was the motor. This is way cheaper then replacing that part! I'm going to do this on my 04 Civic Ex.
Great to hear Eric! Thank you for watching and sharing my friend. Have a fantastic day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
SGT you nailed it my friend thank you for your great comments and being here with us :)
Harry you will love the results thank you for your great comments and being here with us :)
This also takes load off the motor which will prolong its life. Good tip!

Can you please do a video on how to fix slow seat belts? When I get out my car its really slow to coil back in. Thank you
As long as we are on the subject of power windows...
Why do you use rainx water repellent? Just curious..
Thank you so much for this. It fixed my window and was a huge relief. I will definitely do this from now on.
Glad it helped! Thank you for watching and sharing, we truly appreciate it my friend. Have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Make the video of door apart yes
that video is coming up my friend thank you for your great comments and being here with us :)
I like it , cheap and cheerful with a little bit of effort = big rewards . That's me
Right on Robert! That's how we roll and what we like to share with our great subscribers :) Hope your day is the best! mad Mike the hammer SPC
LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERYDAY IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT 👍
Glad we could help! Thank you for watching and commenting, we truly appreciate it my friend. Have a fantastic day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Never seen something like this done before. Do you think this will stop my windows from squeaking everytime I put them up and down? Lol
Sure will! Thanks for watching and asking. Have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Use superglue, it will lubricate the rubber trim better than wd40 or anything else
@@BMW_nation maybe blinker fluid after that 🙄
@@BMW_nation 🤣🤣

SOME BAD ASS SHIT. MONEY SAVER. LOVING IT THANK'S!😆
soul thank you very much my friend :)
Great video, tomorrow I’ll run to auto parts for the cleaner and lubricant to give it a shot. I was thinking it was the motor that was bad.
Glad to help Ricardoso! Thank you for watching and sharing, have a great day and all the best on your project my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
The saying is use it or lose it lol
Simple but effective! But then that's the way Sweet Project Cars rolls!
leonard you are very welcome my friend, we are very glad to have you here with us !!
@@SweetProjectCars like a good bit of your advice, I don't have immediate use, but try to file it away mentally for future use. This is one of those. I just brought a 2002 motorhome and the driver side window was working really hard to go up and down and it squealed like a pig. It still squeals a little bit, but it goes up and down nice and smoothly now thanks to Capt. Mike!
Great idea! My Toyota Scion XB is REALLY slow.
_But I'll use a 'chop-stick' because screwdrivers always seem to poke through._
*THANKS!!!*
They are surprise to do something similar to this in your logbook servicing. Goes to show thry skip a few steps in the servicing. Thanks for showing everyone this.
Our pleasure John! Thank you for watching and sharing, we truly appreciate it. Have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Thank u Mad Mike. We used this on our 87 SS ElCamino & 01 SS Monte. Yeah, but now we lost our “gangsta slo mo” window like the bad 80’s movies :( haha.
And the name of the special dry lube is in the description bar
LOL, great to hear my friend! Thanks so much for watching and sharing, we really appreciate it. Have a fantastic weekend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
