- Fun project, for an old friend. I don’t often work on “H” bikes, so it was nice to get the opportunity to turn wrenches on this one. Thanks for watching, as I go thru the process of assessing the stuck engine and bringing it back to life. There will be one or two follow up videos on this bike. #HondaCT70 #Trail70
I live in Germany and I‘m a big fan of this channel. Thank‘s Mike
Thank you! Crazy how far a little channel like mine can reach. Thanks for watching!
My first real bike was a 1970 blue green ct70H I bought from a Honda dealer in 1977 for $75 dollars. I still remember that day very clearly. I was 14 years old. Good times for sure.
I admit, the "Will it Run"s are my favorite videos. I can't tell ya why Mike. But they are
I’m with ya. Most of the channels I watch on RUclips are revival type shows. There aren’t many for bikes, most concentrate on cars/trucks.
I agree. I love seeing these old bikes start!
I'm currently restoring an 81 Montesa Cota 248. I wish my Dad was here to help. Even though years ago He hauled off a Bultaco 125 a CZ and an old Triumph Cub of mine to the dump. All the parts were greased, wrapped and in Boxes. I did find the CZ swingarm over the hill forty years later. I'd give up all of it for one more day with Him.
A friend of mine had a blue/green “H” as a kid… after 3 cylinder rebuilds and 14,000 miles the bike was sold and he got a SL-70.
As an adult, he found another blue/green “H” on eBay, drove from SE Michigan to near Boston, Massachusetts for the “Local Pickup”.
On the return trip to Michigan, his wife caught him “cranking” his neck around to look at the bike laying in the back of a Honda Accord with the rear seat folded down. She said to him… “Your about to pee your pants… aren’t you!”
Thought you might like a funny Trail 70 story Mike (and followers). 🤣
Love a good Trail 70 story.
Never had a doubt you’d get it running!!!
Thanks Scott!
I live in central Louisiana and I just got a Honda atc 70 going again after 35 years I like bringing them back to life good job
Im in the process of restoring my dads old 78jr50. He got it used for his kids but the cousins messed it up back in the 90s. Bent forks and not running. Ive been using motorkote for all the bolts and nuts. And heat. Almost all have loosen with ease.
It's nice to see a master at work.
Its definitely awesome seeing a locked up barn find or neglectd bike purr again
It really runs well. After ending the video, I aired up the tires and took it for a spin…..it’s a nice little bike. Thank goodness it didn’t put up too much of a fight.
@@MiniBikeMike I bet your old neighbor is gonna be excited to see that
Another Trail 70 has arisen from the smoke and ashes!
I like the methodical way you investigate what should be the right way everything should work, identify what’s not right, and even surmise a theory as to what someone else attempted to do as a fix. Nice work as usual and typical of you Mike.
Thanks Don!
Another Trail 70 brought back to life! Great work Mike. Love to see it out next year on your big ride out 👍
My first bike was the Honda CTH70. It was Green. My relatives had bought two brand new identical bikes. Later, my family acquired one of the bikes. Which I rode growing up. Sold it just a few years ago. The buyer was going to do a complete restoration. But it was already in decent shape. Needing little to get back in pristine condition.
Awesome took me 9 months to free up the piston in my 70 H then i found out the clutch plates were rusted together but all worth the fun working on these bikes
You’re more patient than myself. Mine would’ve had a Lifan in after 30 minutes of trying to get it unstuck. Luckily, this one didn’t put up much of a fight.
Already looking forward to the next one Mike.
Me too! Owner wants me to strip it down, clean and rebuild.
THAT'S A SWEET .. ONE LIKE THE 4 SPEED MANUAL 👍👍
Thanks. Runs and rides pretty well.
AWESOME, Love this channel.
Thank you and thanks for watching.
That video was right on time. I have the chance to pick up a couple of engines, a z50 and a CT70, both of which are locked. At 64 years old, I'm trying to start a "spare parts collection," and so far only have a running z50 engine. Great video, Mike. Thanks.
That is my old Honda 70, Very sentimental the family and I have had great times on that bike ! Thanks for working on it Mike, I was hoping you would do a video on it.
Thanks Donnie! It will look much better when I finish it up.
Always easy to fill up half an hour i should be studying with a new MiniBike Mike video!
Thanks!
Great looking survivor. Going to clean up nicely.
That’s the plan. Owner wants me to strip it down, clean everything as best I can, replace a few items and rebuild. Gonna be a sweet little bike.
I've got my 71 sl70 that sat for 30 years and my son got it running I still ride it occasionally
Great jog I call myself a good mechanic but I’ve learned a whole lot from you thanks buddy
I just stumbled across your channel and I am currently binge watching all of your stuff. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge
@@kevinriddle9829 Thanks. My videos aren’t very polished, but at 60, I’m still trying to learn the ins/outs of making content.
Love that Thrush muffler sticker. I remember back in the 70's that same sticker was on almost everything! I even had one on my old banana bike! I learn so much watching all the things you do and check to get them running again. Excellent video!
Yep. I’m gonna guess this one was slapped on it late 70’s or maybe very early 80’s. We got our drivers license in 81, so it was probably parked then.
It’s great feeling when you make them come to life after so long, could smell it from here. Looks a great survivor too, well done buddy great video
Thanks!!
It’s alive!👍
Good job brother.
Thanks!
As always good job 👏
Thank you!
I finally ordered the Craftsman nextec impact driver... watched you many times and im convinced it is a good product.
@kevinturco9077 Do they still make it? I got that as a Christmas present, maybe 8 to 10 years ago. It sat in my toolbox drawer for at least 3 or 4 years, then when I retired and got my current bike shop, it finally got some use. It may be my most used tool.
@@MiniBikeMike
I found it on ebay it is used but looks new.
I am happy that I landed on your channel. I have 70cc 1986 Japanese build (for Pakistan). :)
Hey that's my dad's bike 🎉
5:51 it's been about 20 to 30years since it was rode my older cousins road it when it was at my grandparents house
Good to know. I’ll update info on the next video.
Loved the video Tks Mike!
Thanks!
great work
Thanks!
Saludos mike que lindo modelo H
Thanks.
Awesome job buddy
Thanks Brian!
My Green 70H was in a similar shape, except my engine would still turn over and my cables all worked. These bikes are so much fun to bring back, I need another one!
You can get a key by using the numbers on the switch or helmet lock. 10 or 15 bucks online
I done that a few times in the past. I wonder if the keys are getting scarce, no one had a matching key blank for the last couple I tried. I purchased a bunch of repop K0 switches in bulk and got them for about as much as a key would cost.
👍👍😎
Always like the resurrections. Question… Does anyone sell the dust boot for the front brake cable? Thanks for any help
Good question! I don’t know, I always replace the entire cable.
Curiosity, you use ethanol free gas in the old 50s and 70s? Im sure with those lifans it doesnt really matter either way
No, I’ve never used ethanol free fuel.
The CT70 K0 Owner’s Manual, Fuel Note, says to use “Premium grade fuel…”. Back in the day (1970s) when those bikes were sold, the fuel was leaded. I’ve always added ‘Lead Substitute’ to 91 octane or higher unleaded for my originally owned, Candy Gold, K0 (4/70). Without the leaded fuel the intake valves suffer prematurely and lose of compression due to the lack of lubricity with unleaded fuel.
The engines designed to be fueled with unleaded have valves and valve seats able to “hold up” to the lack of lead lubricity.
Wow almost 100% of ur subscribers have like this already.
🤣🤣🤣 I don’t think so, but that would be awesome. Typically, around 2% of my subscribers comment or like my videos.
Not sure this would be the right way to ask you but I have been working on a Honda CT70 motor and there are 4 wires coming from the stator black, red, blue and gray I know the black is for spark but I don't know witch one of the others are for lights or if it is a 6v or 12v system any help would be much appreciated.
If it’s a 1982 or older engine, it should be 6v. The newer bikes, from the 90’s were 12v.
If it has four wires, the black is for spark. There should be a green/red wire for neutral indicator. The remaining two wires are for lighting/charging.
