My best advice for anyone who finds this matchup annoying is to just straight disrespect his stances. The pressure is mostly fake and you can option select most common flowcharts. He's very straight forward as a character so labbing him really isn't that tedious compared to others
A good victor will absolutely destroy you for doing this. Any Victor that goes into IAI or Perfumer on block is either really bad at Victor or is disrespecting your reactions like crazy, which only three exceptions. The first is Monsieur Samurai, which is usually done after a wr2 or a heat engager, and leads into plus frames. This is the main way any good victor will ever enter stance on block. If you press, the 4 option will win as well as potentially deleting your HP if you're back is to a wall. 4 also beats power crushes which is why you can't spam power crushes vs the stance. The 1 cancel into IAI stance is often used to loop pressure against turtles and get free counterhits into damage and oki against people who mash. The other two are perfumer 2,2, into IAI, or u1, into IAI, both options threatening an extension that gives good reward on counterhit. Long story short, disrespecting Victor's stances will only work against a bad Victor. And if the opposing Victor is bad, then by all means, do so. But don't make it a bad habit. Learn what good ways Victor has into his stance pressure, and adjust accordingly.
@@AbsolutelyAbsurDDD one of my favorite checks for how competent or experienced in the match up someone is is trying to bully with the stances in round one. The thing that sucks the most is that this was my first tekken that I decided to take seriously and what's the number 1 thing FGC content creators always say when it comes to you picking your main? "Pick someone who looks cool to you!" So following in their advice, I see the victor trailer and go wow this character looks cool asf I'm gonna main him. Fastforward to after the game releases and I constantly see victor mains getting shit online. Ik myself and Ik I dont use any of the Victor "cheese" so imma keep it pushin but goddamn the victor main slander is tiring sometimes.
the only reason im having the greatest of the funs with tekken 8 its because of every single character is broken. mostly like kof 13 but with tekken. thanks for the content, we needed this.
EXPULLLSSSSIIIOOOONNNNN. I liked him from the trailer drop last year alongside the Paris theme. I enjoy the French Wick. People complain about him being too strong however at high level, other characters straight up out perform him.
Tekken King Victor here, and I will say Victor is extremely frustrating to play against in lower ranks. During my climbs with other characters, such as Steve, Hwo, Law, Drag, etc (to Fujin), i always hated running into Victor, but the problem is just that he's gimmicky. I will admit, Victor is an absolute free pass all the way to Fujin. Below Raijin, nobody knows to fuzzy duck f4, 1, nobody baits expulsion, appropriately checks b1+2 and most importantly, nobody sidesteps, which is Victor's main weakness, which makes the character feel impossible to fight. But once Victor mains start facing players who play the matchup even decently, Victor becomes entirely fundamentals. People use tighter frame traps which make expulsion not really work consistently at all. B1+2 gets check by low-commitment lows or gets checked with a jab into a duck and launch (this move is still godlike, don't get me wrong), f4, 1, gets fuzzy ducked, your pressure gets sidestepped all the time, and then you realize against strong opponents Victor has a to play a very honest poking and counter-hit game, whilst only being able to force offense against opponents that are conditioned to stand still, whilst also not having good lows for opening up opponents. and I'd say at higher ranks Victor plays more honest tekken than a lot of other characters. I'm not saying Victor is bad and am in no way trying to downplay. He's solidly A tier and in the top 5 easiest characters to pilot imo. After a heat engager, his offense can get extremely degenerate, but that's most characters tbh. I'm just saying once you reach Raijin, the carry stops, and you have to start actually playing extremely honest, and the character becomes much lest frustrated to face. My second highest ranked character is Eddy in Kishin, and when I play vs opposing Victor's it feels like solid Tekken because the opposing Victor knows bettter than to spam expulsion or b1+2. I'm still working on the fuzzy duck though.
@@AbsolutelyAbsurDDD thanks for filling my curiousity. personally I’d replace eddy with dragunov but that’s just me and my poor skill to pilot him( could be because I find him boring to pilot)

@AbsolutelyAbsurDDD man can you check out some of my matches with Victor? Im only mighty ruler with him but everything you said is spot on and him being linear its a pain to work around that weakness...against the stronger players his wr2 and u1+2 in heat only gonna get you so far
Victor loyalist here. As someone who competed in Soulcalibur, he was easily the newcomer I was most interested in from day 1, and indeed things like the reach on his weapon attacks felt familiar to me (his df2 is an especially good example). I gradually learned how valuable his cheapest moves were, especially when coming across other Victors online with what I'd call a more, uh, "shameless" playstyle. Speaking of SC, I ended up maining 2B in that game, who was also notorious for having her own flavour of cheese that was widely hated, so even the fact I'm playing a character with this kind of reputation feels like already trodden territory to me XD Even if his most annoying moves get nerfed - and I'm sure they will - I can't see myself dropping him any time soon. Vive le France lmao
I refuse to call myself an ex-SC player because I'm still huffing industrial-grade copium that we're getting an SC7-- and I swear to god half of Viktor's attacks look like they got pulled off either Mitsurugi or Haohmaru; I wasn't even thinking about 2B bc I rarely saw people playing her lmfao
The funniest thing about Victor is that he's firmly mid tier. He's an absolute scrub killer that thrives on brutal counter hits. But against decent players his linearity and lack of abusable lows makes it really hard to open people up.
He is a scrub character itself. Victor players are carried. If they switch to other non bs characters they will have difficulty to rank up as their victor.
@@jkdman2007 L take and fanciful cope. But if it makes you feel better then keep telling yourself that. Maybe if you didn't mash Victors wouldn't walk all over you.
I mean it also depends which character your playing. For me playing Kazuya which whom you have to read and carefully counter attack is hard because most of my moves are slow and have zero poking.
They're especially bad in this entry. Sometimes you sidestep a move, it looks like it completely missed you yet you get hit. Some move in this one also have incredibly broken tracking. Yould be behind a guy and his move would still make him do a 180 to hit you.
I recently discovered your channel and I just wanna say your videos are super informative especially for a newbie like me! My only nitpick is some of the videos you use in the background have a very low bitrate (most notably at 1:50)
I'm a Victor main and in my overall playtime on casual and ranked matches it is incredibly rare for me to see another Victor player. I think his silly dialogue in combat is something I really enjoy while using him and he's just overall fun to use.
Steve main here ..... sometimes Steve looks at me and says "I'm tired Boss". Some characters do take more effort and deliberation to pilot...you actually have to think about and assess every situation unlike some characters that dont require much thinking or execution...that's how the term brain dead came about. Characters like victor will only take you so far with gimmicks ...wanna have fun then its ok..but when you reach that ceiling you will have to put in the due effort...and that varies for each character ,some characters reach that ceiling earlier and some dont even have one(they do but kinda don't ykyk).
I think he has the second best character design of any new Tekken character to have come out, Reina being number one. You mentioned "character identity" and I heard that term thrown out a lot but not sure exactly what it means. Can you make a video on that?
I'm a hwoarang main in blue ranks currently, he has a huge moveset and stances with unsafe moves that many players don't punish in red and lower ranks but once u hit purple and higher it becomes a lot more difficult for hwoarang to keep pressure without getting launched, all your opponent needs is one good read while you're in flamingo and boom, 70+ damage taken, not to mention the fact that he has weak pokes and lows (except for d3,4).
@@selmathers5830he is a lot safer than he used to be. 4,3 being safe nh string is ridiculous. He has a ton of power crushes one of which jumps over lows and throws LOL He has a lot of tools to cover you up so you don't have to use your brain too much. And they don't.
Victor is the character I feel I've truly meshed with in my experience playing Tekken. Nothing more satisfying than landing a CH1+2. Plus his design itself is just awesome af. I will say WR2 is lowkey kinda problematic with its tracking but other than that I think he's fine (but a buff to the tracking on his pokes could be cool). I hit TGS with him today. Really looking to see how far I can push this character to hit GoD.
I name the counter hitting db4 for maximum satisfaction. You get that moment as they crumple when you both know you're about to take them for a ride and the cost of admission is 50% or more of their bar. No joke more than once I've literally won a round right off the start with one touch via a cheeky db4.
This is exactly how they are , I don't find him difficult cuz I used to play with him so I know how to counter him , no Victor ever rematches if they lose. Nothing wrong with playing him I just find Lee way more fun.
To be fair a lot of "Flow Charts" can be dodged by just backdashing unless it's got some lows involved. When Victor dissapears but he whiffs, he's toast. Backdash into launcher stops Victor in his tracks, not keepout - which is why a lot of people struggle... For a bit.
I played a lot of Victor at the beginning and didn't realize his WR2 and power crush were so schnasty. I got to Garyu mostly playing FF2, DB3, and of course U1+2. He's got a lot of frame trap stuff that is super good at low level stomping when people are incentivized to just run their offence and mash every interaction. Once I was playing against people who wouldn't mash I hit a huge wall, and probably would have needed to understand his plus frame moves in order to progress much. I did switch to Alisa, so you're 2 for 2 on your bingo card with noob stomping easy to pilot characters. :)
There’s a lot I like about Victor. His design is dope, he uses a sword and a gun, he’s voiced by Vincent Cassel - the fact he’s on the more simple side to play as was pretty lucky because I wanted to try him out even if he was difficult …Though the biggest reason I play Victor is because I love Noctis and I miss him and this is the closest we’ve got in Tekken 8 to Noct
When i first started playing Tekken 8. And this is my first Tekken btw. I wanted to play Victor simply to cosplay as Vergil from devil may cry. I didn’t realize how braindead his play style is. I didn’t feel like i was learning the game it felt way too cheesy. So i switched to Lars and yea he was way more challenging and it felt so good getting to Garyu with him. I felt like i was actually learning how to properly play the game. I kinda regret not picking Paul though because i think i would’ve improved even better. I think I’m going to play some more Victor for the fun of it. And Paul of course.

@@remigusker6024 I think it'd be cool if the two moves had similar evasive properties so yoshi vs victor matches can turn into alternating the two moves until someone mistimes and fails to dodge XD But on a more serious note it really does seem like yoshi still has an invisible hitbox that opponents can jab float him out of u12 even when he's well above their heads. It's annoying cuz uf2 does a similar jump but Without turning invisible/vanishing, so it feels less evasive but in reality when yoshi's above your head during uf2 you really will miss the jab float.
i never really thought of hwuarang as a difficult character to play, so i feel like there is a ton im missing, can anyone fill me in on how he is considered hard along side yoshimitsu?
I have a friend who played this character until he reached purple and challenged me for an offline match he got destroyed, with no fundamentals and just spamming the moves over and over until he got predictable and after he lost 16-3 he said Kazuya was just broken. LOL
I've wanted to main Victor since before Tekken came out. He's my favorite character archetype with his guns, knives, classy style etc But after the game came out, I heard about how much people hated him, so I swapped to Raven and got him comfortably in Blue Ranks. Raven is cool/fun and all but I do miss playing Victor, I just really like the character and his movement, but I'm worried that people are just going to hate me for it... what should I do?
I agree the up 1+2 could be toned down, but the WR2 is not a problem, maybe the chip could be tweaked, but ultimately it’s a knowledge check to know about the possible frame trap after

i really hope that victor is balanced not nerfed in the upcoming patch. he does have his really strong moves and gimmicks but once they're gone he doesn't have anything else so seeing the rest of his kit be useful would be sick as a victor main. if he does just get nerfed though i will keep playing him cause i do find him fun
I don't main Victor. Never played him save for his character episode. Absolutely hated going up against him at him, but welcome the challenge anytime I see him now. Even when I hated fighting him I knew I'd be absolutely gutted if I didn't see him in any future Tekken games
I wanted to play him because he looked really cool and his moves looked cool and his music was probably my favorite in the game. And i mean his stage music is good.
When they add Noctis back, i can’t hate Victor due to him being flashy. Since, Tekken 8 is still in it’s beginning phase, I can see Victor getting nerf to the core by time the time Tekken 8 be on sale for 20$
Something you dont see people talk about is he has some alpha peter moves from soul calibur 5 without the harder inputs and they have bonus hits or mixups.
Glad to see this said. I don’t think it gets much attention because at a high level he’s handled pretty well. But the design is so toxic. B1+2 is so fast and so long range it doesn’t matter that it’s a high. You can low profile it, but you’re not ducking it on reaction or anything and on a read you’re risking ff2 and wr2 mids hitting you. The range means you’re never going to be jabbing him where you can hit the armor then duck (like say Jin’s zenshin 2) and punish. It’s going to be eating like a 16f mid poke that it will counter. He reminds me of Honda in SF6 a lot where he can unga bunga in for free and you can’t really punish it at a low to intermediate level.
He’s really easy to deal with when you know the matchup. My advice would be to sidestep and don’t duck. He has really weak lows and mostly all of his “pressure” can be side stepped to the right
tekken 8 is my first tekken and i picked victor for a mixture of reasons. first i saw bits of gameplay and thought his design was super dope, and also i heard he was a good beginner character. this was great to hear considering how notorious tekken’s difficulty is. after about 175 hours ingame and getting to orange rank i can definitely say he is overturned. i believe his lack of strong lows is a good weakness to have for this kind of character but really not enough. i think some attributes for his strongest moves should be removed, such as the insane versatility of b1+2.
Fun fact, if you either have the read or are very fast on reaction some characters like lars and Shaheen can scoop his expulsion out of the air with their orbitals or superman punch style moves........oh it does pitiful damage and you get no combo and it doesn't cost him heat
Man U just gotta be ready to hit his teleport it’s very interruptible online but I needa video on devil Jin and Alissa these mfs be flying around crazy
I play Viktor for the most part, as he was easy to pick up for a beginner like me when it comes to fighting games. I understand he's frustrating to other newcomers but once you do play him, he's a pretty fair character with clear weaknesses. I do think his WR 2 and 15f powercrush needs a nerf but he really isn't all that big of a deal if you know what you're doing. Pro tip if you're new, Victor's lows are horrible for the most part, the only two decent ones are perfumer+3 (if you get hit don't duck as it will crumple you if he does 3 again) , d/b 4 (watch out for this as it crumples on counterhit) and even those aren't all that amazing if you expect them. Respect his heat, his moves don't track as much as certain other characters and if he spams 2, you can launch him for free if he finishes the string which a lot of beginner Victor's do. I can understand his pressure (or rather fake pressure from his stances as someone mentioned) can be overwhelming at first but he's really not that bad. I'd rather play 50 Victors in a row than a single game against Feng Wei or Azucena. I am now trying to put my time into learning Leo and Reina, both being very difficult for me but I'm doing my best. Remember that games are used for fun, so more fun for you when you beat a character you don't like!
For so long I've been on the nerf train. But you know what? How about we buff the shit out of everyone who didn't get enough t8 bs? This way, we sll have stupid shit and EVERYONE sees what their enemy sees and we can finally normalize the cheese or understand it and tone it down universally
"BS" command list character like Alisa and Victor, in ranked, could be overly annoying when guys spam easy broken move like the ones mention in the video. Of course you can learn to counter them, but the thing is, IF YOU DONT know your opponent character MU well, I really believe Victor and Alisa are WAYY more tough to deal with that Feng or Dragunov for ex. If you know all the MU of course those two are much stronger than Victor/Alisa, but there is tons of thing to learn in the game and until you find the time to have decent knowledge, you will get bodied by those BS character by rank scrub that will spam you and leave after 1 game, leading to the frustration most people feels playing against such character. No other choice but to lab them properly but even so they are not useless afterward either and you are never safe of a panic "EXPULSION" move for ex, that is fucking overly evasive safe on block mid, and actually tough to step in real time due to the commit you have to do on this step. A good player could surely play him until blue rank with only 25% of his command list and with barely no execution skills, so yes most people hate that type of character.
I actually love playing vs victor is pretty challenging and not annoying I can tell you 6 characters which are more annoying 1. zafina 2. eddy 3. xiaoyu 4. lars 5. eddy 6. hwoarang
You don't find much Victor players right now. Well, at least for me I don't see many. I was a raven main, used Master Raven in Tekken 7, probably the hardest character in tekken 8 rn is zafina even with a small buff and her usage rate is still the same. Probably my new favorite character next to Maven. Bamco removing moves to fit as heat engagement imo was just a piss poor decision. Especially for RAVEN.
At blue ranks and above no one falls for victor cheese anymore. Most victor players at those ranks just play keepout, and once u respect their range start to wr2 u. His mixups really arent that good and his low pokes give up his turn. So hes really not that tought to deal with if you arent bad at the game. His range might need a bit of a nerf tho lol.

The back 1+2 doesnt just destroy mid level players. Farzeen was having really early heat engager during combo breaker thanks to that. And he basically beat Anakin bc he was having a lot of trouble predicting his power crush. Victor is an S tier. From watching Farzeen matches during combo breaker, the only way to beat an extremely strong Victor is extremely high movement. AK and Arslan was having movement like crazy

the only reason im having the greatest of the funs with tekken 8 its because of every single character is broken. mostly like kof 13 but with tekken. thanks for the content, we needed this.
😌always great to see a fellow kof xiii enjoyer
It's like every character absorbed a bit of Hwoarangs soul
EXPULLLSSSSIIIOOOONNNNN. I liked him from the trailer drop last year alongside the Paris theme. I enjoy the French Wick. People complain about him being too strong however at high level, other characters straight up out perform him.
Yeah he's just another a tier character in a game where pretty much everyone is a tier
Who do you think is top 5 easy to pilot?
@@hands-ongaming7180 In no particular order, Victor, Azucena, Bears (because nobody knows the matchup), Asuka, Dragunov,
@@AbsolutelyAbsurDDD thanks for filling my curiousity. personally I’d replace eddy with dragunov but that’s just me and my poor skill to pilot him( could be because I find him boring to pilot)
@@hands-ongaming7180 He isn't super far from it tbh. I don't blame you for having him in you top 5 easiest. You can literally hit Garyu by just spamming 3 lmao
Speaking of SC, I ended up maining 2B in that game, who was also notorious for having her own flavour of cheese that was widely hated, so even the fact I'm playing a character with this kind of reputation feels like already trodden territory to me XD
Even if his most annoying moves get nerfed - and I'm sure they will - I can't see myself dropping him any time soon.
@@JFirecracker honestly I want to believe it'll happen too 🤡
Also yeah, Relic and IAI are basically the same thing
As a Frenchman, I think you pronounced his first and last name very well.
I never liked that they gave him a sword. That's Yoshi's thing. And with him wielding two knives and a gun, it felt like a hat on a hat.
yeah the weapon creep in tekken is getting silly
The funniest thing about Victor is that he's firmly mid tier. He's an absolute scrub killer that thrives on brutal counter hits. But against decent players his linearity and lack of abusable lows makes it really hard to open people up.
He is a scrub character itself. Victor players are carried. If they switch to other non bs characters they will have difficulty to rank up as their victor.

One thing I hate about Tekken is its wonky hit boxes that make absolutely no sense sometimes.
Its not rare. He's all over the place. Now seing Zafina that's rare
New to Tekken, and Victor was the first character I gelled with, he's pretty simple to get the basics down with, really enjoy the game with him.
I could listen to Boogard talk all day, great video as always
I think he has the second best character design of any new Tekken character to have come out, Reina being number one. You mentioned "character identity" and I heard that term thrown out a lot but not sure exactly what it means. Can you make a video on that?
Whoreang difficult to play is the funniest thing ive heard today
Yeah i couldn't believe he said that 😂
And Xiaoyu... Lol.
He has a ton of power crushes one of which jumps over lows and throws LOL
He has a lot of tools to cover you up so you don't have to use your brain too much. And they don't.
@@Mr440cwhich of his power crushes exactly jumps over throws?

Victor players seem most likely to run a flowchart in ranked and then quit mid set once their gimmicks stop working
This is exactly how they are , I don't find him difficult cuz I used to play with him so I know how to counter him , no Victor ever rematches if they lose. Nothing wrong with playing him I just find Lee way more fun.
Bro thats literally every character in the game? Every character has a flow to them.
YUP😂😂 made a victor quit
To be fair a lot of "Flow Charts" can be dodged by just backdashing unless it's got some lows involved. When Victor dissapears but he whiffs, he's toast. Backdash into launcher stops Victor in his tracks, not keepout - which is why a lot of people struggle... For a bit.

Yeah you only play for the cheese and easy wins, go play fortnite
His design is dope, he uses a sword and a gun, he’s voiced by Vincent Cassel - the fact he’s on the more simple side to play as was pretty lucky because I wanted to try him out even if he was difficult
…Though the biggest reason I play Victor is because I love Noctis and I miss him and this is the closest we’ve got in Tekken 8 to Noct

Harada San, How many weapons do you want Victor to have?
Harada San: Yes
When i first started playing Tekken 8. And this is my first Tekken btw. I wanted to play Victor simply to cosplay as Vergil from devil may cry. I didn’t realize how braindead his play style is. I didn’t feel like i was learning the game it felt way too cheesy. So i switched to Lars and yea he was way more challenging and it felt so good getting to Garyu with him. I felt like i was actually learning how to properly play the game. I kinda regret not picking Paul though because i think i would’ve improved even better. I think I’m going to play some more Victor for the fun of it. And Paul of course.
Respect for being real.
I'm surprised how many fans this character has. I find him visually banal, just a guy in a suit, and I deeply hate fire weapons in fighting games.

As a yoshi main, Victor’s up 1+2 makes me green with envy with how much more evasive it feels than Yoshi’s up 3+4 😂
I feel so rude in the match up too because every yoshi is trying to do flea shenanigans and I'm just like EXPLUNOPE!
@@remigusker6024 I think it'd be cool if the two moves had similar evasive properties so yoshi vs victor matches can turn into alternating the two moves until someone mistimes and fails to dodge XD
But on a more serious note it really does seem like yoshi still has an invisible hitbox that opponents can jab float him out of u12 even when he's well above their heads. It's annoying cuz uf2 does a similar jump but Without turning invisible/vanishing, so it feels less evasive but in reality when yoshi's above your head during uf2 you really will miss the jab float.
Honestly, it feels pretty good to counter him when you know how he fights.
The move when he hits the ground and the explosion happens…. I’m surprised that didn’t get brought up lol

He's my favorite character archetype with his guns, knives, classy style etc
But after the game came out, I heard about how much people hated him, so I swapped to Raven and got him comfortably in Blue Ranks. Raven is cool/fun and all but I do miss playing Victor, I just really like the character and his movement, but I'm worried that people are just going to hate me for it... what should I do?
Play who u like who cares unless his banned in a tournament go for it get your rank up
Sooooo true... one guy beat me with that one move over and over even blocking he still did damage it was really annoying

Victor is not good in this game. But you don’t have to be a good character to be annoying.
Exactly. People hate bears, and they are low tier.
Check the pakistan tournament and tell me he is not good.
"weak lows" what about his sweep that is +6 on block that is a juggle starter on CH? it's a expressive low that forces you to take the next attack.
The only element of Victor I really have beef with is EXPULSION while in heat, that shit is nuts. Outside that I really don't mind fighting him
He’s really easy to deal with when you know the matchup.
This is a good video. I’ll sub

Watching this victor gameplay makes me want to go play victor. He’s a badass.
Yes, I just lost the first round of an Esl World Cup final because of victor

I think he’s actually pretty cool, it’s the players I don’t like. That and the noise he makes when he does the uppercut thing with his knife.

You but Eddy twice, but I got a feeling that was on purpose lol.
Thanks for speaking about this 🙏🏻 ❤

The back 1+2 doesnt just destroy mid level players. Farzeen was having really early heat engager during combo breaker thanks to that. And he basically beat Anakin bc he was having a lot of trouble predicting his power crush. Victor is an S tier. From watching Farzeen matches during combo breaker, the only way to beat an extremely strong Victor is extremely high movement. AK and Arslan was having movement like crazy

Havent played much against Victors but when I do, its a patient game. He has more time intervals between major moves than most characters. Study his timing and youll find an opening soon after
I could be tripping but im pretty sure that the fact that his kit is 90% weapons it means he's bordeline unparryable? (Which would be pretty much my only gripe with him considering hes easy and being unparryable is just too much enabling for the lower skilled player-base IMO).
