Between being told that Heihachi would never return by Harada himself and the addition of Clive, season one has been kinda disappointing. Let's not forget about Eddy's *unnecessary* Gen-Z hairstyle lol
I still say that Heihachi should have stayed dead in canon. Kazuya got a big credibility boost by being the one to kill him for real, and his death actually made things feel like they were progressing. Now, I just don't care anymore.
@@theinfinitywarden7759 It's not Shakespeare, but it was what I would call serviceable, especially around the time of Tekken 4. Heihachi's return completely invalidating the events of Tekken 7 in the dumbest way possible is the absolute low point.
@@theinfinitywarden7759 Tekken 4 was great. And the first 3 games were alright considering there wasn't a lot of detail to it. Old simple character presentation in fighting games from 90-s worked well. It progressively becomes more of a joke the more details they include into the story telling. Back when Tekken didn't try to be a full screen time anime it was good.
@@JunKazamaFan Funny thing is, Tekken 4 is when Namco hired more writers, resulting in the characters having these drastic changes in their design. Tekken 4 is solely disliked for its gameplay, not its story and character designs. That is the best aspect and what introduced me to the story of Tekken
Bamco said that the “free” winter stage for “character pass” holders was an exception to apologize for misunderstandings with the Heihachi's stage. So no, they did not learn anything, they will continue on the same path.
If they had learned the lessin the stage would be included in the character pass now, it would take them 10 minutes to implement. Why do you think they learned?
@@thechugg4372 i can see that point but including Heihachi’s stage would be a little scummy for the people who ended up buying the stage separately anyway, and they did learn their lesson because they included Clive’s stage as part of the character pass this time
The whole season is disappointing. Eddy and Lidia should’ve been base roster. Heihachi was done for shock value and just makes the Mishima story even more tired. Doesn't help that the explanation for his revival shows the writers have the combined IQ of a side mirror. And idk anything about Clive but guests fighters are gonna guest.
@@CrystalMang0bro they gave us the same characters from 7 they knew what they were doing and I do agree heichi is dead why is he back clearly for shock marketing. Why give us characters like Leroy as base rosters they shoulda made him dlc it doesn’t make sense.
@@gus439Every single fighting game has paid additional characters, this is not going away. Or if it does, get ready to pay more for base game. But you'll probably bitch about it anyway
@@C.R.Cole331 I think the 1st four should have been unlockables to begin with than DLCs. And when I say unlockable, it doesn’t matter how: just update the game like valve does on tf2 and we’re good as consumers.
@@wulf8889 Yes but not to a point where it became that important, it was only an annoyance that they used that same hairstyle. I honestly don't mind because I think it fits the character, but they immediately moved on from it after like a week of complaining, while other problems stuck around for months
@@Matt_Underwood did they really? Lidia's faded away. Eddy being dlc also did his hair the bigger deal. Heihachi? The positive comments eclipsed it. Clive? High viewcount for the trailer. Might end up having high usage rate as well like Noctis or not being a big deal in competitive.
@@Thisaintcarter The thing about Clive is he's a sword fighter, Tekken is a very hand-to-hand game. Tifa fights hand to hand, so she's be PERFECT. But I can imagine the IP for Tifa being...expensive but even then there'a a good number of martial artists in Final Fantasy as a whole. It'll be like if Sephiroth was added to Street Fighter, sure it's cool, but...he doesn't fit in.
I'm still a big upset that Heihachi's back mostly because of story reasons. Yeah, his gameplay's fun, but I feel like just having Heihachi back makes Tekken 8 no longer feel like this amazing evolution of Tekken. Plus we have Reina already, who was basically the evolution of Heihachi, but now that he's back it makes Reina feel a little obsolete
Am I alone in this? "Clive being balanced?" Clive feels like I'm playing against a boss character. Dude enforces absolute 50/50's by existing on the screen no matter where he is, his armor is hard to punish, and telling someone "Just sidestep left" Is like telling a homeless person to "Just get a house." easier said than done
No you're not alone. Bro has a parry that's a guarantee follow up. Side stepping doesn't work if everyone has insane tracking and if the hitboxes are janky
I think people are just way to in love with Clive’s design to realize how broken some of the stuff he has is. Is he the best character in Tekken 8? No, that easily goes to Yoshi, Nina, Drag. But he is still one of the worst characters to fight in this game and I have no idea why people are saying he’s balanced lol
No one expected him since he "died" in 7, and personally it was hype..i much rather paid for Heihachi in T8 than Lidia/fahk/Marduk/Lei/Kuni/many others
Not only is it generic but it’s starting to become a black stereotype. As a mix man black and white I’m so damn tired of seeing the Killmonger cut☠️ like the only time we ever seen that haircut EVER was in Black Panther and Michael B probably the only black man in real life who had that but every game past 2020 has a Black character with that same EXACT WORD FOR WORD hair cut 🤣🤣 like could they at least switch the side from left to right or something like dyed colors I SWEAR it’s always the same hair design 😂
The main problem i have with heihachi is that by him being alive again so soon, not even missing out a game, means any impact tekken 7s plot had is gone, everything that happened in tekken 7 can be ignored, you can play the campaign of tekken 6 and the story mode of tekken 8 and miss basically nothing. Its a joke how tekken 7 is now a filler game because everything it did outside of just having afew new characters is in 8
A base roster with hidden, unlockable characters would have been wiser. Clearing arcade mode with different characters would reveal more playable characters in the base roster. If that's taking too long, throwing in a classic Namco arcade game at bootup would work. If a perfect bonus is obtained in the bootup mini game, all of the hidden characters can get unlocked that way.
I don't think Tekken 8 is a Bad Game but there's so many Idiotic Decisions made by the developers and writers just keeping the game from being enjoyed. that ironically that said I find Clive to be best character in the season 1 pack compared to the other characters that either should've been in the roster or in Heihachi case made the Last Game a Pointless Beta or Just thought what so ever. I get Heihachi is Iconic but the way they brought him back just looks like they don't give a fuck about our Intelligence cause fans eat anything they shit out.
Because they sold us Heihachi, one of the iconic characters in Tekken's history, as dlc (same thing applies to street fighter's bison). Also, they made that stupid ass story chapter where they explained us how he "survived" being thrown into a volcano. Special mention to Eddy, another iconic character (not at the level of hei) sold as dlc too. "Oh but look how successful the dlcs have been on season 1" , you released one of the main characters of the story of tekken, ofc its going to sell a lot, try releasing paul, yoshi or king as dlcs; they'll get similar results.
Eddy's 333, Lidia's resell, Heihachi came too early (turning the whole story into a comedy really), and Clive belongs in Soul Calibur. Season 1 was a disaster imo.
My biggest issue is that making all of them stacking power-up characters has felt very samey. I wouldn't be surprised if Anna got a stacking power-up that affects her Chaos Judgement stance or something.
Yeah. Eddy’s feels a bit different, though I think he shares the same issue as Leo’s power up where it just gives you like 2 or so stronger combo enders that you have no reason not to use.
was still different after T7. There was more impact when Kazuya came back in T4. They didn't even manage to leave Heihachi dead for a game, and that was after the gigantic story mode that was all about Heihachi in T7. Big middle finger of all to just bring him back as DLC and not even include him in the story. Cheap and laughable. He didn't even manage to appear as the very last DLC character.
@Fuchsfeuer 80 plus years of Marvel and DC comics gave taught us good villains never stay dead! Look at Geese Howard in SNK games- how many times has he fallen off that tower now?
They actually made me care about him in Tekken 7, gave him some depth....and then they couldn't help theirselves, brought him back entirely too fast, and now I'm back to not caring about his character. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't mind if Harada got the balls to somehow wipe out ALL the Mishima's for just ONE game (since they'll just come back anyway).
with the current state of the tekken community, I feel like even if we'll get the fan favorites like AK or Ogre, we'll always end up finding something to bitch about, warranted or not.
@@charlieharrington9555 I get you love the game and I'm happy for you but let's not pretend there aren't any issues. Community is divided, Street Fighter is on 4 million sales. Tekken still hasn't announced it's on 3
I think one of the reasons why Tekken 8s season 1 DLC feels underwhelming is because the majority of people who are legacy players and new from Tekken 7 didn't pay attention or frankly didn't care about Tekken 7s arcade release so they don't have the perspective to understand that Tekken 8 having 32 characters on Launch is the biggest launch roster since Tekken 6.0. Tekken 7.0 launched with 16ish characters with Yoshi , Jack , jin and Devil Jin all being DLC for the arcade version released throughout its year and a half of its lifespan, fuck when Devil Jin dropped people flammed his Rage Art so hard they gave him a new one in Fated Retribution. Tekken 7 FR added akuma also added Nina , Eddy , Bob , Master Raven , Lee , Miguel , Kuma and Panda. Adding all of these characters back into the Second Version of the game made it so that when T7 released on consoles the roster felt more complete out the gate but people don't realise even in the arcades people had to wait for characters to be unlocked through time release which is the same process as waiting for the next DLC. In a lot of ways T8s base roster is just too well rounded to have an obvious here's who's going to be DLC and it boils down to do you want DLC Dragonuv or Raven or would you want DLC Eddy and Lidia most people would choose the former rather than the later
@pheonixrisingx2560 that's the joke those three characters don't have the staying power to generate enough hype to do a mid season rejuvenation through a DLC release , the only reason why Ganryu was added in T7 season 3 was literally because of all of the memes and Harada liking him enough to bring him back. Even after the redesign and flashy animations Shaheen can't beat the allegations that he's a boring character and it REALLY doesn't help that 4,3 jailing in T7.0 made that games meta a JOKE damn near killing the hype as much as Bob mirror matches at the end of T6s cycle. The only legacy characters who I think can generate enough hype for both Tekken 3/ Tag1 OGs and New Era veterans from T6/Tag2 is Bruce and Ogre. At this point making Armour King a Season 2 DLC will just piss people off more than it will get them excited in the same way Lidia being a Season 1 DLC character after being the final character pissed people off.
I hate the new direction tekken is going post 6. It feels like its tryna be a flashy anime fighter but not ready to fully commit to the idea. People say that tekken was always unrealistic. But the gameplay was always grounded (except for boss and joke characters) martial arts and close quarters fighting was always the appeal to me. Yes we had bears and aneroids and demons. but they were boxing. not flying across the screen
This. I personally feel that - on a scale of Virtua Fighter to Guilty Gear - Tekken 1 to Tekken 4, and perhaps Tekken 5, were some of the least "anime" Japanese-made fighting games of their time. Anime-inspired, yes; but distinctly video game in execution.
It’s easy for Tekken casuals to make fun of us for our reasons of being upset but they have to understand that guest characters are not just about putting someone in cuz they’re cool. Guest characters have to align with the franchise’s identity, this is why Mortal Kombat succeeded with it even in a bad game like MK1, bringing in slashers and brutal fighters that would fit MK’s identity. Simple as that.
So Clive doesn’t fit bc he has a sword ? I’m sorry are we forgetting yoshi, and victor mf has a gun also and teleports , Nina potential best char in the game also has a gun mishima and their blood line shooting eye lasers flying and have super powers and don’t even get me started on Alisa but we drawing the line with a char that had swords and magic ,cool
@@mr.upcoming7888 Yoshimitsu still has a martial art style. He still executes punches and kicks. Alisa still uses combat, Victor still uses a martial art. Yes, all of these characters still have weapons, but they use fighting styles. Clyve just uses strict swordplay and special moves. It literally looks and feels like he belongs in Soul Calibur. He dosent fit in Tekken. He’s not unlike Negan and Noctis where he lacks flow and any martial arts. Tifa is a better choice in Tekken hands down.
@@Flungz_99 if you’re just gonna ignore all alisa antics with she still used combat I could say the same with Clive he still has punches and kicks and people on the internet hate to admit their wrong and I’m not even asking that all I’m saying meet me halfway here devil Jin can fly and use laser beams yes the have combat but they got super powers too
Maybe I got bored with Tekken overall... But Im not hyped by any of these characters, luckly I didnt buy season pass. Tho the biggest L was Heihachi's stage as separate buy, it's peak bs
I was about to buy Tekken 8 on sale, it's currently 50 percent off, and every review I've seen has turned me off of it. Most modern fighting games have gotten so greedy, that it's turned me away from buying them.
Haven’t spent a dime on this season….absolutely insane how people just cough up money for blatant bs. Too many goofies payin for ish. We speak with dollars and people just still simp man. Anyways VF6 and City of Wolves is comin so there’s still hope
you can be disappointed and dissatisfied. I have my character but disappointed with how they’ve handled tekken 8. way too offensive too many plus frame dribble but i still love me some tekken just disappointed cause it could be so much more. clive is not hype imo. he’ll just give us quick match infinite rematch at least. idk but season 1 is critical to the health of a game. the it didn’t release in an arcade isn’t a viable excuse anymore. i main shaheen btw. not that it matters but i haven’t spent a dime since the base game, i don’t do customs, i just want good games thats it
Season 1? This games celebrating its 30 year anniversary what are you on about? I don't even hate this s1 dlc but your comment is forgetting Namco have 30 years of seeing what makes customers mad and you're just saying "guys chill", cool I'll just chill then
I’ve had the theory that eddy and Lidia were base roster characters that BAMCO pulled them out and released them over half a year to work on the Heihachi and most of the time developing the animations and stage for Clive.
This totally adds up. You mean to tell me that after the super credible Marduck and Fugck-you-ram leaks, you were able to release not only a totally revamped Heihachi, but also a whole ass side campaign? All in the span of… how many months was it? I hardly care enough to check lmao. But all this content in so little time is pretty suspicious.
I'm hopeful for the future, mostly because my true main Anna is finally coming back. If she wasn't coming back i would be singing a entiely different tune right now.
They sold the same fundamental design 3 times now. I will crash out if i see another character with stance mix, poor pokes, only a -13 low poke and the rest death on block, extremely op Aids heat, and some "gimmick" that requires no change of one's playstyle yets gives ridiculous abilities
@@9773an lmfao what? They should be releasing DLC that already existing players want because that means money. Releasing a character who might bring a few new people in but isn't popular with the existing fans that already own the game isn't a good business strategy at all.
They may not have asked for Clive, but I want him to stay 1000%. One of the most badass game characters in one of the most badass franchises? Fix him up and what's not to like?
This game is shooting itself in the foot at every single possible turn. Day 1, no dc penalty. Then they added a tekken shop a few weeks in and banned a bunch of modders. But I can still download auto parry hacks no issue if i wanted. Heihachi didnt come with his stage, the season pass is more expensive than individually buying the characters. Tekken 8 is garbage, tekken 9 will also be garbage. IT WILL TAKE the craziest most impossible fixes in season 2 to fix this game, watch it not happen. Bandai screwed us on this one.
@@Superfoodcookie ok? Is what i said incorrect. NO. Why is this game made for casuals who will quit this game, when its the die hard fans that stick with it. Aint no one whos played tekken for the past 12 years want a battle pass. YET we are the guys stuck with it. Window shopping sucks for fighting games. Will i be playing tekken 8 3-8 years after release, OF COURSE they're gonna fix it by then. But there is still damage to the game for the people WHO STICK AROUND LONG TERM. Not casuals who love final fantasy, theres a new game every 2 years for them. And another of their favourite games. Fighting games stick for a long time. Mortal kombat is the exception.
@10du16 lol its has a bigger player base then tekken 7 ever did. Sorry if facts hits ur feeling. If you hate tekken 8 then leave? Don't play it again. Leave the tekken community base and go back to sf6 or mortal kombat. Sales and data all point to it being stronger than 7. It is what it is.
It’s disappointing because Eddy and Lidia should have been in the base game, Heihachi should’ve stayed dead, and it should have been Tfia instead of Clive. Not only is Tfia more popular, it makes more sense for her to be in a FIST FIGHTING game compared to Clive who used a sword. The only other character with a sword is Victor and honestly he doesn’t really belong in this game either. This way we get Tifa for hype and is a good fit for the game, while having three extra slots for characters who would make a better DLC like Anna for example. Most people would rather pay for Anna over Eddy and Lidia any day.
Yes, but that's fine since I'm not hardcore and apparently not the target market so the lack of Lucky Chloe or Alex or Roger will just be how things go. At least Panda is still here but I kinda hit my Panda limit after the first month.
@@arvinsim Prominence is too op and would probably be nerfed, either in tracking or frames, but if you're fighting a Clive that's abusing hellsweep, that's your fault for not block and punish the shit out of him.
IMMHO, bringing back Heihachi is the nail on Tekken's coffin if it ever existed. You don't kill someone just to bring him back unless you're telling a past story or you've gotten him from another universe.
@@raptorate2872 Long time ago, I played Tekken "I forgotten which one I played." That game expected you to NOT HAVE A LIFE. And I couldn't hand my soul to it. So hey.
Great video overall and i think you covered the key topics but this was actually too short for me. You left out that Heihachi didn’t come with his stage which was HUGE for people especially season pass holders who didn’t receive the stage. So bad that Namco Bandai had to reverse the decision for future characters. Clive is also considered to be an overpowered character by many because his moves track too much. This frustrated players because Namco Bandai has shown they’ll fix tracking issues but then release a character with major tracking issues. Thank you for uploading, it was entertaining and got me to think.
People really hated that Clive was being included because they believe a sword character shouldn't be in Tekken even though Yoshimitsu has been apart of the series since the very beginning
Out of all of these, Heihachi has been the only one that makes me angry. "Completely Dead" my ass. 😡. It renders Tekken 7's story pointless and lessens Reina too.
Don't care about Tekken bad writing, I'm disappointed they took away Heiachi, a sort of protagonist always appeared in all the entries, from the base game. But my real issue is Clive. Listen, I'm not saying bullshit like "Tekken dead, Tekken sucks" as some ppl would think. I only say, I like Tekken for its gameplay, and I will always like Tekken ONLY for its gameplay. Because this game have no style and no art direction, every bullshit could be thrown into the cauldron. It was the case of Tekken 7 and seems like the case of T8. Is basically Smash with Tekken. So it's ok, put every random stuff in this generic game, I'll keep playing it as soon as the gameplay will continue to be good, and normies will be excited and surprised because random stuff is thrown into the game. Everyone is happy. It's just a shame that this amazing gameplay is used for a souless marketing game, and not a true piece of art
Clive is the worst DLC ever. I dont even like the stage with all the things that are going on the background. All the swords, magic, wolf and summon demons and control ice and fire. I just want legacy characters.
Clive is cool. Noctis was the most played character in T7 history cuz he is cool as well. FF just a bigger brand, so more people know the characters and buy game. Casuals and gamers of other genres only know T8 as some mashfest compared to the cooler SF6. So T8 needs the guest characters to increase their cool factor. Hopefully the explanation was cool. Stay cool
I think as a person who was burnt out from Tekken, the most divisive thing is still the heat system. I don't know how they've improved it since then, but issues around this specific mechanic were consistent and polarizing.
I'm new to Tekken (Tekken 8 being my first ever game since it was on sale for playstation) so I can't speak about the other characters, but I find some of the Clive arguments to be weird once I played through the story mode (And yes, I'm a Clive fan). I've seen a few comments saying he shouldn't be in Tekken because he has a sword, but Yoshimitsu has a sword and is in the story mode though...Clive having his sword and powers fits the game perfectly imo after playing through the story mode where characters have demon powers and swords.
I bought the season pass because I was stupid and still trusted Bamco to make a good game. Never again. I'll check back if they add Lei. Until then, they just lost a customer that had played the game since 1995. It's VF time now.
Worst DLC season I have ever seen and I wasn’t a fan of SF6 season 1 thought it was bad but Aki, was something good and Akuma is fun but I just really hate re selling characters this whole pack is just reduce reuse recycle.
Tekken8 is not what Tekken was, they diverted towards a game easy for button mashers to keep more people attached in long terms with game and added DLCs and other stuff, but most loyal players are not happy as they think its not what Tekken was. I think they will try to fix but in general Tekken legacy and hype as best fighting game is now coming to end. R.I.P Tekken we will miss you.
Eddy and Lidia were fine, Hei should not have returned, especially since his death meant that the story was finally developing Clive just don't feel he belongs in Tekken, and I know people would bring Nactic , but Nactic also didn't feel that he belongs and no one actually from my experience were hyped with him
Clive’s pick rate this week has been absurd, which just fans the flames. I thought he looked cool in tekken until I fought Clive players for an hour straight. Despise the character now, honestly
I just don’t see hype in any of their character picks. Maybe I just don’t like Tekken or something but it seems like all of their dlc characters just don’t have any actual sauce. They have flashiness but it all feels empty and without substance. Meanwhile SF6 is consistently knocking it out of the park with fun new characters and hype crossovers in Terry and Mai. Clive is fine and all but I don’t see much intersection between the audiences of whatever FF game he’s from and Tekken. Maybe that was by design to try and rope in exclusively new people, but when it comes to stuff that will get the tekken community itself excited they don’t seem to know who to pick. I’m no expert on it either, being more of a street fighter guy, but my first thought would be something like a VF, Soul Caliber, or DoA character. If not that, I’d pick something so out there that it’s bound to get eyes on it, like what Negan was for T7 or whatever Ronaldo and COTW are doing. Clive is such a middle of the road, boring pick. It feels like adding a pokemon to smash brothers. Sure they might be fun, super fun even, but at the end of the day it’s a pokemon, not master chief or goku or whatever. The fact that everyone saw Clive coming isn’t a good thing. As for Heihachi, I wish he stayed dead or if he would’ve gotten brought back do it way later on in the game’s lifespan and make him some kind of cyborg or demon or ghost or whatever, something like what happened to Charlie Nash in SFV that could serve to freshen up his gameplay, maybe make his already high skill ceiling even higher. Something other than “hes back with a big fist on his chest and is mostly the same but there’s heat and stances and whatever.” Feels lazy. As for Eddy, that was the scummiest of all. The one two punch of showing people all of these new replay features and the training mode and how easy they can make learning how to beat characters before pulling the rug out from under everyone by forcing a paywall to use any of it against Mr. Gimmick himself is just shitty. 3ddy is hilarious but also extremely depressing because of this. Meanwhile in SF6 town, rental fighter passes exist and just work. The choice is clear to me for which game I want to spend my time playing. As for Lidia, maybe it’s just me but I don’t get the appeal at all. She’s always struck me as an intensely boring character. In design she reads like a less interesting Ryu that happens to be Polish and female. Her personality is just “the answer lies in the heart of battle” which works on Ryu bc 1. He’s not DLC, 2. He’s the introductory character, and 3. Capcom is aware of how boring he could potentially be so they bounce other characters off of it in stuff like world tour where he talks about Chun-Li taking him clothes shopping and stuff like that. Lidia is just pure seriousness all the time and has the personality of a plank of wood. Characters in Tekken that are popular generally aren’t boring protag types, they’re shitheads like Kazuya, Heihachi, and Bryan. They’re lovable dopes like Law and Paul. They’re a fucking bear or whatever Yoshimitsu is. Even Jin’s done some fucked up stuff. Lidia doesn’t have any of that sauce. I really hope the next season has better picks, ideally all new faces. It’s also desperately in need of more characters per season, 4 being the standard is criminal. Again, If there’s crossovers, make them wild or something existing fans would appreciate. Give us Akira or give us fucking Dr. House or something, don’t give us another Clive. Hell, don’t give us Tifa either. It should feel as natural as Terry does for SF6 or as unnatural as Gon does for T3, avoid anything in between.
Modern gamers have allowed DLC, patches for unfinished games, season passes, always online and DRM to become industry standard- then they complain about it. What did you all think was going to happen?
6:25 there's a sentient training dummy, two bears, the devil, an angel, a robot fairy, a vampire, a kangaroo, a dinosaur, and a red monster with tubes in the series yet swords and magic is where they draw the line 😭😭
Fr, most of the people bitching about Clive just wanted Tifa so they could goon. I honestly don’t remember this being an issue when Noctis was put in 7.
I didnt buy any of the characters, stages, or battle pass. Eddie was annoying, lydia was weird and apparently a bad character, heihachi was part of the main game and put as dlc, and no one asked for clive and hes pretty busted with good wall carry. Vote with your wallets. I still love the game. dont get me wrong i just dont like the dlc content or practices so far
The thing about Clive is that I don’t hate his inclusion, I think it’s cool, however, it’s having to play Clive after Clive after Clive for the past week, it just becomes so repetitive to even play rn (To me at least)
heihachi should have stayed dead canonically but other than that this was great dlc with a lot of love put into every character they obviously are trying to make lidia and eddy more important for the modern story which is cool because they're great characters
They ruined this game. I used to play Tekken 7 all day, every day during the pandemic; I was literally addicted. From the moment I woke up until I went to bed, the gameplay and the rewarding feeling of using a slightly underpowered but skilful character like Armor King were incredible. The defence mechanics were amazing. Sure, there were some annoying characters like Noctis, but for the most part, I really enjoyed it. Fast forward to Tekken 8: after 100 hours, I stopped playing this game because I found it boring and frustrating. The rushdown tactics and 50/50s were incredibly detrimental for legacy players. I miss the days when I could have intense matches, repeatedly facing off against a skilled Bryan or Kaz now you get 3 games max before you gonna vs some annoying character whos extremely overpowered like Renia appealing to the woke crowd and just spamming random crap. tekken is dead.
Heihachi was the highlight of season 1. Even though bringing him back didn't make much sense story wise, the hype was pretty crazy when he was revealed. Plus its Heihachi. But I think the majority of the characters this season should've been on the base roster
An underwhelming dlc season yes, the death of a franchise no. Tekken 8 is my first Tekken after playing plenty other fighting games and I gotta say Tekken fans complain way more than any other fg community that I’ve seen, every fg resells legacy characters even if they were in the last one: sf6 literally had Akuma, bison, Ed and then Aki (all of these characters apart from aki were in sf5). MK1 had takeda, quan chi, Ermac, noob, cyrax and sektor (all characters who were in mkx). The fan bases of those games may complain but not on the scale of tekken fans. Tekken fans honestly just seem to hate their games and the people that make them because they throw a tantrum at every opportunity.
Have you considered that they're the last ones with some sort of self respect. The rest of the fgc just seems to lie down and take whatever dribble is lobbed their way, because as you said, they continually buy and buy like good consoomers.
"No one hates a game more than it's own community". There were problems. The character choices are what they are. At least they were fun. As much as "Reselling what we had" is, they ARE different enough to play and enjoy in Tekken. Clive, as much as a pain in the ass he is to fight against, is a really fun character. That's all i ask for, and that's all you should expect. Never be mad about a crossover, because it can bring a lot of people to you game - GBVS players know this.
Making Lidia a dlc character twice back to back is a shit move, i remember doa did the same with nyotengu, if anything it just an easy way to make her have a bad usage rate.
I am firmly in the Clive haters camp, but one thing I commend them for is releasing him only a few days after the initial announcement. I remember being hyped for Lidia and having to wait for almost 2 months to check her out. Then Heihachi is back, I'm excited beyond words and then I have to wait 3 months and I don't care that much anymore. Ridiculous move imo.
I just don’t think Tekken 8 is for me. One of my mains isn’t in the game, when I played it I didn’t really like the heat system, its a little pricey and this dlc was all misses for me mostly for the reasons you listed. I’m happy new players are attracted to characters like Clive but unless season 2 is all bangers I think I’m sitting the whole game out, regardless of a sale
Imo, The fact that leroy, victor, azucena (love azucena but i need to be real) are in the base game, but fahk, lidia, eliza, kunimitsu, some of them newcomers in the franchise and were very popular in T7, are not in the game, its beyond crazy, it's dumb. They really messed up with the roster in that sense, for me, it would be better if they put those newcomers in the game first, and then putting some key-legacy characters and collabs after, less people will be dissapointed with that and you actually could do more following that idea, now you need to mix everything in one season: characters introduced in T7, legacy, new characters and maybe collaborations. namco are doing really bad decisions.
People here don't either own clive or take time to actually study him lol. He's not op. Every single tekken fanatic screams op per DLC release. Tekken 7 they released almost S tier every single time. We have yet to see anyone dethrone Drag, Jin or Nina. Theyre still by far the best characters. Clive is flashy but he's very punishable. Fun fact every single launcher he has is punishable. Hence you can't throw it out for fun and hope it hits with no worry. His strongest move which does need a nerf is f1+2, its true that move is stupid af. But otherwise I just power crush every single time he tried to shift for his 50/50 forcing them to use his low damage leg sweep more often which i then block a lot more often which leads to a full combo. People haven't figured him out yet and no wonder, its only been a week. He's already being placed in A tier at best. Means he's along side other characters like Bryan, Steve, Kaz.
New virtua fighter is coming. Idk why I'm so scared about tekken8 if they mess up future season. But i still have my trust in tekken and I'm happy another 3d fg legend, VF is back
Uninstalled this game and never coming back. I don't care if season 2 is great and this game improves to be the best tekken ever - its too late, trust has been broken, and the damage is lasting and permanent. I'm done with Namco and their greedy monetization, baselessly taking down and striking harmless mods, DMCAing content creators, poorly treating its employees and being completely detached from the community. They have ruined the image of Tekken and I'm looking solely towards SEGA and Virtua Fighter to pick up the slack for 3d fighting games. The only thing that would bring me back is a re-release of 5DR with full rollback and crossplay. Otherwise, this series can burn in hell.
Heihachi there always has the issue with the character 1-harada say heihachi 100% dead and that sh't didn't happen 2-he almost make the story right like making heihachi change his way and turn good and harada did not want heihachi to become good and stay evil SO WHAT IS THE POINT THE STORY TO EXIST TO BEGIN WITH
Worst season 1 in the history of modern fighting games and worst dlc picks as well.. tekken 8 does not have many redeeming factors sadly.. we are assisting the death of tekken right before our eyes.. the next seasons will be even worse.. assume the CURRENT tekken is the best tekken we will ever get going forward. Oh well its really time for a serious contender to spawn, im tired of this shit game
honestly, it's kind of sad as he is definitely my number one tekken 8 guest character pick, but i dont think kiryu kazuma will get in. Not only has there been several times where we've heard rgg say they dont wanna do yakuza crossovers, but also rgg is now making the new virtua fighter, which means he is very likely to be in that game if any fighting game
What’s even totally worst , I think given we’re only getting 4 DLC characters per season is technically not enough that you’re pretty much leaving out the rest of the missing Tekken cast characters. And shoehorning guest characters can be felt like it’s a wasted spot for a said character. So yup, the last two is what left a lot of fans very sour to this first season. P.S. season two dlc better not be four only characters please!
I didn’t purchase the season dlc without knowing what is in it first. I learned my mistake from believing in t7 dlc without knowing who was in it first.
I understand that this is a very experienced franchise, but i feel like the community needs to cut them some slack and be able to understand some things even if it is a tough pill to swallow. First and foremost, the approach to tekken 8 is unlike what they have done before, so it will take time for it to become great, or even good. Secondly regarding Clive. I understand why people wanted Tifa, but its not that hard to see that this was done from a purely financial standpoint. Not only for tekken but for their newest edition to the final fantasy franchise. Thats why Clive is here. And to illustrate my point, some well known tekken streamers started playing final fantasy XVI shortly after he was revealed or they had played him. My point is, be patient. It will take time, but it will be worth the wait.
During the dev videos with the Tekken and FF16 devs talking about Clive and his development, Clive was being planned to be a DLC character since about January 2023, or about 6 months before FF16 even came out.
I'm glad someone finally said it, but with yoshimitsu in the game people won't really care, Clive is just too much though he's such a pay to win character.
Because its pathetic : 1. Eddy a regular character could have been in initial roaster, instead of having two bears or having two chease characters ( azucena and victor). Eddy also a chease character himself. Why so much chease and then regular same old chease as DLC. 2. After Eddy (regular chease as DLC) Lidia failed to hype. Why would she what new she brings great personality, style, strength, uniqueness…yeah nothing. 3. Developers realise DLC is falling flat on face, make a u turn bring back hiehachi. Great iconic character but changed a lot from what it used to be. 4. Clive, now comes real shit…one match quit is how I deal with such shit.
Such bullshit, imagine having to pay for characters you've played a million times already. It makes sense to pay for non tekken characters, but Heihachi has been in it since the beginning. Classic bamco.
Personally? I was disappointed with Eddie; they really did him dirty in this game, and it's only gotten worse for him after they fixed the dodging mechanic. Lidia I was mostly neutral towards, as they did improve her and fix some of her most glaring issues from Tekken 7. Heihachi was genuinely excited about, even to my own surprise - and they made him different enough that I actually had to put some effort into relearning him from the very beginning, which was fun. Clive? Clive on the other hand I genuinely dislike. Don't get me wrong; I agree that he's been amazingly well designed aesthetically, gameplaywise, and has an gorgeous looking stage - but the issue I have with him is that he doesn't look like or play like (his stage included) he belongs to Tekken in any shape or form. Yes, we've got people turning into demons and shooting lasers from their foreheads in the game, but the Tekken team at least managed to make them feel like they belong into the game. With Clive they failed utterly to accomplish that same feat - at least in my opinion.
Well that's the point of guest characters. They are to retain their essence while still being integrated into Tekken. No way you can underplay a character like Clive or Noctis just so they can "fit in". Even akuma and geese retained what made them unique.
What do you guys think about the first seasons DLC In Tekken 8?
I wish Eddy and Lidia didn’t exist but the last two I’m planning on playing a lot so they made up for it
@TheCabbageGuy-wr7riEddy and Lidia just seem like base roster in DLC, but its fine that they're in.
I understand bring Heihachi back for gameplay but it completely ruined the story side these games for no reason
pretty "eeeeh".

COULD YOU IMAGINE??
Between being told that Heihachi would never return by Harada himself and the addition of Clive, season one has been kinda disappointing. Let's not forget about Eddy's *unnecessary* Gen-Z hairstyle lol
I still say that Heihachi should have stayed dead in canon. Kazuya got a big credibility boost by being the one to kill him for real, and his death actually made things feel like they were progressing. Now, I just don't care anymore.
Tekkens' story has always been a joke.

Its a joke how tekken 7 is now a filler game because everything it did outside of just having afew new characters is in 8
Not releasing Base rosters is trash. Releasing them in season to earn money fast
Oh, did they announce a Base Roster for season 2? I haven't seen any news about a DLC Base Roster yet
People are dumb enough to buy them🤦🏿
A base roster with hidden, unlockable characters would have been wiser. Clearing arcade mode with different characters would reveal more playable characters in the base roster. If that's taking too long, throwing in a classic Namco arcade game at bootup would work. If a perfect bonus is obtained in the bootup mini game, all of the hidden characters can get unlocked that way.

Heihachi being/not being dead has been a Tekken tradition since 1994
was still different after T7.
There was more impact when Kazuya came back in T4.
They didn't even manage to leave Heihachi dead for a game, and that was after the gigantic story mode that was all about Heihachi in T7.

(Points at Panda, Shaheen and Leo) You could take panda and any one of the two please.
@goldenthunder1166 Yeah. If I had to compare. Tekken is supposed to be more like Baki or Kengan Ashura. Just over dramatic martial arts.
It’s easy for Tekken casuals to make fun of us for our reasons of being upset but they have to understand that guest characters are not just about putting someone in cuz they’re cool.

Tekken just isn't Tekken anymore. RIP Tekken.
Lol what? We've had devils and other random shit for decades
@@person2795 Yeah, but now every other character has a gun or a sword. It was fine when it was just the mitsus, but now its just stupid.

IMMHO, bringing back Heihachi is the nail on Tekken's coffin if it ever existed.
You don't kill someone just to bring him back unless you're telling a past story or you've gotten him from another universe.
You must be new to Tekken. They killed and ressurected the dude at least 3 times now

People are mad at it cause he's a nobody
Out of all of these, Heihachi has been the only one that makes me angry. "Completely Dead" my ass. 😡. It renders Tekken 7's story pointless and lessens Reina too.
Im in charge of season 2, were getting armor king, mokujin, kunimitsu and sonic the hedgehog as the guest character
Chad detected, opinion accepted
Leroy being in base roster despite both him and Lidia being DLC in tekken 7 was such a major let down.
“Let’s pay for something random then complain when we receive something we don’t like it.”
That’s definitely half of it.
THANK YOU THISSSS
Seeing the perspective of the first 3 DLC characters being in the base roster makes a lot of sense to me now.
Eddy and Lidia were fine, Hei should not have returned, especially since his death meant that the story was finally developing
Clive just don't feel he belongs in Tekken, and I know people would bring Nactic , but Nactic also didn't feel that he belongs and no one actually from my experience were hyped with him
Clive’s pick rate this week has been absurd, which just fans the flames. I thought he looked cool in tekken until I fought Clive players for an hour straight. Despise the character now, honestly
People complained about Clive because he's not a martial arts character, and they called Lidia boring while she's a Karate fighter.
the literally recycled characters from tekken 7 except clive. i need season 2 to make me forget this mess
I wanted Josie Rizal.
Clive is not balanced at all.
Fr idk what universe he been in
Yep and so many people denying it is abusing him rn, crazy range, safe in almost all of his moves, safe 50/50 and so on
Clive is definetly an S tier character and I’m tired of people pretending like he isn’t lol. The moves this dude has are straight up broken.
If you're able to play against noctis you should be able to beat Clive easily
Exactly, he’s not
Modern gamers have allowed DLC, patches for unfinished games, season passes, always online and DRM to become industry standard- then they complain about it. What did you all think was going to happen?
Clive shouldn’t be in the game
Let me guess. Weapons?
clive looks cool dont think i would main him but definitely a good addition to the game
6:25 there's a sentient training dummy, two bears, the devil, an angel, a robot fairy, a vampire, a kangaroo, a dinosaur, and a red monster with tubes in the series yet swords and magic is where they draw the line 😭😭

Eddy and lidia put season 1 so far on the backfoot, that nothing outside of some epic releases could have saved this season pass.
We starting off season 2 strong with another returning DLC character as DLC... again 😂
The thing about Clive is that I don’t hate his inclusion, I think it’s cool, however, it’s having to play Clive after Clive after Clive for the past week, it just becomes so repetitive to even play rn
(To me at least)
heihachi should have stayed dead canonically but other than that this was great dlc with a lot of love put into every character
they obviously are trying to make lidia and eddy more important for the modern story which is cool because they're great characters
@@GCheckCentralna y'all just babies and whiners. SF6 and GG community way better and more chill.
"No one hates a game more than it's own community". There were problems. The character choices are what they are. At least they were fun. That's all i ask for, and that's all you should expect. Never be mad about a crossover, because it can bring a lot of people to you game - GBVS players know this.
Giving base characters as dlc is crazy let alone selling a dlc 2 games in a row (lidia)

The people who say Clive is gonna make them buy the game are the problem
That's me
Imo, The fact that leroy, victor, azucena (love azucena but i need to be real) are in the base game, but fahk, lidia, eliza, kunimitsu, some of them newcomers in the franchise and were very popular in T7, are not in the game, its beyond crazy, it's dumb.

His strongest move which does need a nerf is f1+2, its true that move is stupid af. People haven't figured him out yet and no wonder, its only been a week. He's already being placed in A tier at best. Means he's along side other characters like Bryan, Steve, Kaz.

Better be Six

Soul Caliber bombing is the reason Clive and Noctus are landing on Tekken

Because its pathetic :
Classic bamco.
i honestly just don’t see how clive is orange he looks red to me
Orange aura with his fire moves.
Very very disappointed
