Great scene from a great movie but such fight never took place in Bruce Lee's life. He injured the very end of his back warming up with weights before a training session and had to undergo Physiotherapy for a very long time because of that. Linda Lee stated that the fight with Wong Jack Man ended up with this guy running away from Bruce therefore if Johnny Sun was sort of representing Wong Jack Man in the movie this was very much misleading. Ciao!
Jason Scott Lee was originally supposed to play Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat instead of Robin Shou but he turned down the part evidently. Which by the way would have been a good fight between those 2.
From Bruce"s personal experience, this is where his infamous teaching of: "Never take your eyes off your enemy even when you bow..." hails from...he learned a great deal from it, where he almost became a paralytic....
Except this didn't happen in real life. The fight did. But Bruce's back wasn't injured in it. What really happened was that Bruce badly strained his back one morning after an improper warm up while lifting weights.
Thing I hate about this scene is most can’t distinguish what actually happened vs the film. They didn’t fight in a disclosed location. Jack came to Bruce’s school and ran for 3 minutes until Bruce finally threw him on the floor and made him give up. Bruce got injured lifting weights not getting kicked in the back. I love the movie though.
Somehow I don't think this in real life was even this close lol or was it after his injury that Bruce really went crazy with martial arts and started doing the movies? Also Chuck says Bruce's back got hurt from a weight lifting accident so which is true the fight or weights?
ruger51995 definitely not true he wasn't kicked in the back. Idk why Hollywood does this stuff. He was injured doing the exercise known as "good mornings" which he hyper extended his lower back. And he faced Wong Jack-man not a Johnny/Jonny Sun. I loved the movie as a kid but as researched Lee growing up. They should've done this fight scene strictly with him using Wing Chun. But, Jason Scott Lee did pretty good in his portrayal of Lee. This new version Birth of a Dragon...smh man they should've left it alone.
D hi D, so there's alot if mystery aroudn this and I've been told many things, and Chuck Norris( I'm a bit skeptical if he's biased) but Chuck also said it was a work out. (Let me know if u watched that new autopsy some guy did) Anyways so obviously Bruce was very good at martial arts when he fought the guy who challenged him but was he as focused in martial arts before the injury? Well I don't think he has the injury during his first few movies and he was clearly just as skilled as to his later movies, but was when he fought wong Jack did was he as good then or was it after I heard that Bruce had beat him but he just wasn't satisfied with the limits of wing chun or something? I think wing chun is a cool style and I'm considering taking it. But what other styles did Bruce incorporate in his jkd what style did he know? Or he self taught after wing chun?
ruger51995 Lee was disciplined in a variety of different martial arts/combat training. His first that is often overlooked was from his father. Which was a Wu style of Tai Chi Chuan called "Ng-ga" in Cantonese. Then of course Wing Chun (under Yip Man), Western boxing, fencing (from his older brother), Dan Inosanto of course introduced him to Pilipino styled fighting with weaponry of Escrima( kali sticks/escrima sticks/arnis, tonfa, Bo staff, and nunchaku). They also credit him for various other Chinese arts. He may have picked up in Hong Kong before coming to America or along the way. As he moved between San Francisco, Oakland, and Seattle from other martial artist's he came across. That traded ideas as they trained. Some of those are Hung Gar, Choi Li Fut, Buk Pie, and Tam Toi. He obviously took in some Tang Soo Do with Norris, Kickboxing concept with Joe Lewis. A lot of his student's had prior martial arts training and were certified in their own right from martial arts teacher's in Shooto style wrestling, Jujitsu, Muay Thai, Kempo, boxing, Hapkido and variations of Japanese karate disciplines. The Rhee family/brother's with Korean based Tae Kwon do, Hapkido, Tang Soo Do. People like to credit judo/jujitsu to Gene Labelle. But, Nakamura and other student's of his were avid jujitsu practioners. That achieved instructor status prior to studying under Lee. So, it's clear he had a great wealth of knowledge about ground fighting around him. With all that experience from his pupils. The Wong Jackman fight he wasn't pleased with the results although he won. He noticed his conditioning as far as breathing. As well as his limited ability to cut off Wong which resulting in him chasing after him. Wasn't sufficient to his own standard/outlook of fighting. He blamed it on the fixed stances of Wing Chun and traditional arts. This is what resulted in him reinventing his fighting methods. As well as conditioning with physical fitness. The 3 minutes their fight lasted he felt was too long. He injured his back afterwards of course due to his intense training regimes. Which incorporated weight training, cardiovascular endurance, calisthenics, isometrics, and so forth. He was a very fast learner and kept an open mind towards martial arts. He didn't rule out anything that would help you in a fight. Or a way to defend yourself. He pulled and added what worked for him from other's. I believe his injury only forced and motivated him to become the renowned martial artist we know today.
Cool entertaining movie but it's not the actual Bruce Lee story. Specially this scene. Bruce Lee hurt his back while weight training. He was performing a set of good mornings. To incorporate this part of Bruce Lee's life as if it happened in the fight that took place with Jack Man is a big let down. By the way Bruce Lee's wife witnessed the whole fight in real life.
Aliko Smertanoz ... Not according to the books written before the 2000s tv series and Linda Lee's own words. He hurt himself performing "good mornings" exercise with a barbell across his shoulders. Which is surprising to me because even Linda has said the same thing.
Its hard to believe that his wife witnessed it because his first student jessie glover a black guy from England not jarome said he was there to witness it I don't remember him mentioning her being there
This fight lasted only a couple minutes and ended with Bruce chasing him around the room and beating him in the head as he ran. It was the impetus behind Jeet Kune Do
Technically Bruce won both fights (OK, all 3 if you include Luke while filming The Big Boss in Thailand). Johnny Sun says before their 2nd fight that he beat him before. Nope, Johnny gave up in this fight, then attacked when Bruce's back was turned after the fight was already over. So technically, Bruce won both against Johnny Sun.
This is a true story Bruce was hospitalized for 6 months and that's what they call tradition and culture they did nothing to that coward...but Bruce Prevailed and went on to be the legendary icon he is today...R.I.P...BRUCE LEE...
Not what happened. Lee pulled his back out years later working out. The challenge match took place at Lee's Kung Fu school by the way. And had nothing to do with teaching non-Asians.
I'm a blackbelt. And, you aren't taught to fight with your hands away from guarding your vital points. I think the reason Lee did it, if he ever did it, is because he was so fast that he didn't need to keep his hands up to guard because he could get them up in a fraction of a second to stop a kick.
Coganboy nah, the real fight happened in his apartment. Linda Lee was 6 months pregnant with Bandon Lee. she said it consisted of a lot of running. Bruce put him in a arm bar and he submitted. that's all.
What I love about this movie is how the autobiographical parts and the fictional stuff flow together so seamlessly that only someone who studied JKD and Bruce's life would be able to tell one from the other. That being said, let's fix some of the errors posted here...

Johnny Sun(John Cheung) his acting stage name is Chang Wu Lang had fought Bolo Yeung in Writing Kung Fu, Tiger Yeung in Two Wondrous Tigers, Wilson Tong in Snake in the Monkey's Shadow, & Hwang Jang Lee in Eagles Killer, etc. Wonder if he can actually speak English other than those few lines he had in this film??
I wonder the ame thing but also here's a fun fact him and his brother johnny cheung wa were part of jackie chans stunt team
Favorite fight scene of the movie 💪🏾👊🏾‼️
Good kungfu

This in theaters with some Red Vines....April 🤩
Great scene from a great movie but such fight never took place in Bruce Lee's life. He injured the very end of his back warming up with weights before a training session and had to undergo Physiotherapy for a very long time because of that. Linda Lee stated that the fight with Wong Jack Man ended up with this guy running away from Bruce therefore if Johnny Sun was sort of representing Wong Jack Man in the movie this was very much misleading. Ciao!
@Johnny Moronta interesting, would you tell me more about It? This death match you talk about was against Wong Jack Man or some other fighter? Thanks!
@Johnny Moronta Thanks
Your a real confadence builder haha
He absolutely in true life won this tournament know one knew of for the rights to teach his Martial Arts.... The rest is history
This is how I warm up to take the dog for a walk in the morning
Jason Scott Lee was originally supposed to play Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat instead of Robin Shou but he turned down the part evidently. Which by the way would have been a good fight between those 2.
But Jason Scott Lee is in the new movie "Mulan."
Man never knew he was supposed to play liu Kang
Such a shame he turned it down, he was spot on! Imagine a more Bruce Lee-ish Liu Kang in the movie, just like the game
Regardless as it might be, cowards will always cheat and attack from someone's behind rather than facing them in person.
Original Bruce Lee was something else. Not a joker.
Original Bruce didn't even beat Wong Jack Man u joker.
This didn't come off as a joker to me. In fact it was realistic af for a movie about him
Do you know what happened in the actual fight?
GRANDPA REALLYY LIKE THE WARM UP SCENE. THE ACTOR REALLY TRAIN TO BE THE BRUCE LEE
I was hoping Johnny Sun would say "Your soul is mine!"
Shang Tsung Style? Lmao
@@robertzajkowski9570 It looked like Liu Kang (Bruce Lee "clone") vs Shang Tsung from the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie
Same warm up Bruce used in Way of the dragon before his fight with Chuck Norris
Película
JSL did a great job depicting Bruce
Wow. This version of Bruce Lee is his own chiropractor.
(Let me know if u watched that new autopsy some guy did)
Anyways so obviously Bruce was very good at martial arts when he fought the guy who challenged him but was he as focused in martial arts before the injury?
Bruce lee only weakness is he shows off so much that his body limit itself
The movie was way off.
4:08 is funny.. when bruce fight with him again it also kick him in the balls again
No one can play Bruce Lee
3:28 LOL. thats a good way to express your anger in a fight lol
Bruce Lee is the best fighter and ideal.
FN440 it doesn't all half to be real. This though actually made it ALOT better to me it was so dramatic
It’s a movie lol
I Couldn't Agree More!
It was the impetus behind Jeet Kune Do
4:02 what happened there he kicks his shin and he makes somersault?
Technically Bruce won both fights (OK, all 3 if you include Luke while filming The Big Boss in Thailand).
Johnny Sun says before their 2nd fight that he beat him before. Nope, Johnny gave up in this fight, then attacked when Bruce's back was turned after the fight was already over. So technically, Bruce won both against Johnny Sun.
It makes me laugh how people keep making such a big deal about this or that. It's called a " movie" for reason like seriously let the shit go 😂😂😂
hahah that referee heujoo XD still gets me!!
The name of the guy who challenged him was Wong Jack Man. I'm not quite sure where I found the information as I was using Google at the time.
Bruce put him in a arm bar and he submitted. that's all.
😂😂😂😂
A black belt is only good for holding up your pants.
@@eastside0434 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 yup Bruce Lee's words
What I love about this movie is how the autobiographical parts and the fictional stuff flow together so seamlessly that only someone who studied JKD and Bruce's life would be able to tell one from the other. That being said, let's fix some of the errors posted here...
Lets not, and let it be just a movie.
