I tried listening to this pod on Spotify and I genuinely couldn't tell the difference between Robbies and Joe's voices for a good chunk. I always realised how similar they looked but not how similar they sounded 😂
Joe as the postie in After Life reminded me that when I was driving for Parcelforce back at the beginning of the 90's, a young woman once asked me if I wanted to come in and play on the Megadrive pinball game (Devil's Crash? Been a long time.) I saw on her TV as I passed the front room window, and asked her if it was a good game. I was actually very busy so I politely declined. But it gave the rest of the driver's a good laugh as an anecdote down the pub later that night. With them commenting that knowing how into my video games I was, they could imagine me still sitting there playing the game on her sofa, cup of coffee in hand as her husband arrived home from work later, to find a Parcelforce lorry blocking his driveway.. lol
@@toasterboy708 It sort of did actually. But I do genuinely think with 30+ years hindsight that she was just offering to let me try out the pinball game. Video games were just becoming popular amoungst the masses at that point. But also in hindsight I agree with my pub mates. I'd have been there for the pinball. lol

I love this reply, sorry for sounding so arsy! no offence intended. Just wonder if a few notes may come across more comfortable. Either way doesn't effect the audio. though you all seem to sound more confident when asking questions from your heads rather then from the screen.@@HappyHourPodcast
I've loved Gervais since The Office but the writing of Afterlife is horrendous. People are moved by the emotion which is fine. But Gervais' writing has been so much worse without Stephen Merchant

Ricky gervais beautiful Guy but be careful he's got the ultimate Fighting one inch death touch. Pinky finger as if he's holding a tea cup with thump and forefinger you got to see it.

I tend to agree. It’s got so much potential but it’s patronizing and the tone is just terrible. It’s real but also so stupidly unreal. Some great moments but so much that’s just awfully done.
It's just a shame After life was so badly written. It was lazy. Repetitive, kept going around in circles. Stephen Merchant was the driving force behind the depth in the writing duo and without him, Ricky just has a show where his views are parroted in such a caricaturistic manner it just becomes crass. I was so disappointed by it. Season 1 was brilliant, then it went downhill.
@@davidb5173 Actually no, he really isn't. He's pointing out glaring hypocrisies, which is why it's funny and that is what comedy is for, in part. This idea that people cannot say anything that goes against the (evolving by the day) trans ideology, lest they be labelled a transphobe, is extremely tiring. Very few people now associate that word -- transphobe -- with an actual nasty/evil/bad person. It's lost all emotional power. Nobody cares now. And that's not to say that it's good to be horrible to transgender people. It isn't. It's just to say that the overreach has been so extreme that it's lost all meaning as a pejorative.

Why would actors be accustomed to speaking into the mic? Be it set or theater they dont speak into mics.
They are probably used to having boom mics above their heads.
