All the talk about "you need weapon for Smite" reminds me of an issue of the comic "The Weekly Roll", where the party's Paladin had his sword broken so his enemy start gloating about how he was now defenseless and had no hope of defeating him. So the paladin rummaged through the rubble of a nearby broken wall, picked up a brick, and SMITED the ever loving shit out of the guy.

Suggested class: Debris Fighter. A fighting type that specializes in gathering materials of a specific type around their body as a golem like outer shell to fight as. They'd specialize in a specific category, but could potentially get other materials as an outer layer of armor to also gain limited capabilities with skills tied into those materials while the outer armor lasts. Knack may have been the first one I thought of for this, but there's been others as well, though some are boss types, there's been others too. Like, I guess you could consider Overhaul as a flesh type debris fighter. The doll from Slaughterhouse uses furniture as its focus. There's a number of possibilities. Likely with sub-abilities to choose from: either compressing the materials for stronger armor, or leaving it loose for adaptability. Compact ones could be good at regenerating armor, like the golems from Trollhunters, or loose ones could shapechange their outer shell for attack and function, like Knack and to a limited amount Technus from Danny Phantom.

Could you make a ‘How to play Skulduggery Pleasant in d&d5e’? Also love this, totally the vibe of a paladin I am playing who’s oath of glory and the GM is letting me smite unarmed and take the unarmed fighting style as a paladin. He also shouts a lot before battle already as he is a gladiator and likes to hype up crowds.
@@DParkerNunya its a whole series, like 15 books at this point. Feels more like an anime than a novel seires, but its fun. I doubt tulok would build it though, no footage for b-roll. Same reason he hasnt done gilgamesh... yet.
Back when in ye olden days when spells went off at the end of round, it was the fighter's job to make sure the wizard got his charge time safe and uninterrupted. With the change of spells, the idea of a windup was left fallow, which is too bad cause you're right it's fun from both sides. I'm glad this class adds it back, albeit on probably the class you'd least expect.
The reason you made this whole subclass is basically the same reason I created my Oath of the Witchfinder Paladin, which can choose to swap their second level fighting style when they gain the subclass to a fighting style that lets them use their smite with ranged weapons.
I may have actually figured that out. Warlocks are supposed to have an "Otherworldly" Patron, and pretty much all of the current ones are just that, otherworldly or otherwise unnatural. Dragons, on the other hand, are very much "worldly". In fact, after having gone through Fizban's recently (I'm also very new to the grander lore of DnD), dragons are clearly the most "worldly" creatures on the entire Material Plane, having literally been created to be the world's first occupants. It seems like a dumb reason, but then again, if we were ever going to get an official Draconic Patron for Warlocks, it would have been in the dragon-themed book.
tbh, I think a dragon-themed warlock would be kind of redundant. Any special powers and abilities a draconic patron could feasibly grant are already covered by the draconic bloodline sorcerer as well as various spells, unless I'm missing something. Guess I'll have to wait and see what Tulok came up with.
@@OrangeyChocolate I disagree, look at celestail warlock vs divine soul, great old one vs abberent mind, undying vs shadow. All three are similar theme, but mechanically very different.
If you get tavern brawler on your way to Lvl 20 with this subclass, you could do the "High" build from 6 months ago, although with all the damage you can deal with your spells and smites, it kinda of makes the fall damage redundant. Best if you grab your enemy before they hit the ground, great interrogation tactic. Also, as someone who can't donate to the patreon, hoping that festival cleric wins, solely for the fact I KNOW Tulok well use Dionysus from Hades for footage.
Oooh, sword beams. I loved everything about this sub, but sword beams always makes me happy. I love being able to use Unarmed Strike if you want to, but I'm happy you van still use a blade if you want to
Good morning sir. You've earned another Patron. I've gone too long without subscribing to it, and I love every subclass you've made so far. Gonna run an Oath of Brilliance paladin in my next campaign ;D
Consider: Oath of Brilliance Paladin with the great weapon fighting feat. With everything maxed, you can get 5 attacks per turn, all with guaranteed +20 to damage and +5 to hit, plus 5d8 Divine smite damage, 1d8 from improved divine smite and 2d6+5 weapon damage with a greatsword. So, in a single turn, assuming all attacks hit which they more than likely will with +5 to hit, and with median rolls that’s 319 damage in a turn. Oh, and that becomes doubled with Action Surge if you take a level in Fighter, for 638 damage in a turn. Yeah, I love this subclass
I feel like someone who leans into the role play a lot would make "Brilliant!" their character's catchprhase. They spam it so often that everyone in and out of character gets sick of the word.
This is amazing!! Great abilities, flavor and options!!! I hope I can play this some day!!! Going champion fighter with the unarmed fighting style would make you a true loud fist! Lol
Actually the necessary build-up makes sense from an anime point of view, usually the protagonist only uses his full power against the BBEG when all his friends fought before and are knocking on the Heavens's door, just take Goku for example in the Sayans Arc and Freeza Arc, he only saves everyone when everyone else fought and were killed or badly beaten. (ᗒᗨᗕ)
Hey Tulok. I have Ligma… Lig ma This is really great content and I really appreciate all the amazing work you do and this is my favourite channel on RUclips.
Other great multiclass options for Brilliance Paladins would be Battle Master or Rune Knight fighter, Masked Champion or Beast Barbarian, Swords or Valor Bards, or even Swashbuckler Rogue. Hopefully I can see these subclasses all put together in a book someday soon😁
Oh fuck yeah, building a Dex Paladin for this! Might dip into Monk for unarmored bonuses & extra attacks. I’m a sucker for Dex based alt builds, and with all that speed, all those spells a few feats, and a little bit of multiclassing… Can’t touch this~!
I love how this sounds, I just don’t think it’d be fun to basically skip 3-5 turns to get the most of my abilities, considering combat usually lasts around 4-7 turns normally
Agreed, but 3 turns would still confer the benefit of essentially a +3 magic weapon *to your unarmed attacks,* which is pretty nice. The hard part, in my opinion, is managing to maintain concentration when you're _clearly_ a shouting paladin who is getting stronger, which the enemies are _definitely_ going to focus fire on if they're smart.
Essentially have a friend sanctuary you while you're shouting, get the +10 and be invincible. Or if you know a boss is coming up start shouting outside the boss room, go super with the ultimate ability and then hand out serious assbeatings
My beef with a Crawford ruling is that the custom linage from Tasha's cauldron, only allows us to be a generic custom race; Which nothing in 5e is built around or for, and continues to reinforce the bioessentialism of the game. Even though it was implied for months as something we could use to play an orc raised by elves, and there for could take things like the Eleven Archery feat but in fact we can't do that.
If I were to critique/suggest a change. I'd recommend Shout Of Courage to be reworked in some significant way. Considering the Saiyan Inspiration, I'd say a Channel Divinity option replacement that you activate as a bonus action and gives you a +1 to attack and damage for each time the paladin takes damage with a maximum of either 10, your Proficiency, or your Charisma. It would synergize better with the All Out Offense ability better & help make the Oath of Brilliance a bit less likely to ruffle feathers among parties that might not be cool with the oath's wind-up shenanigans while still following the source material. Edit: to his more on the thematic core, I think the Brilliance Paladin should in all ways benefit charging directly into the center of combat, rather than the "Hiding in the back while you power up" style this gives.
@@fredrickdogbe7297 You have to Concentrate on it like a spell, meaning every hit you take risks dropping concentration early. Also the fact that it'll STILL turn into "Everyone Protect the Tank" rather than the tank protecting everyone else.
I also have a beef with one of his rulings: that Magic Missile is, RAW, a single 1d4 roll used for every missile. Problems with this include that the rule he cites would only apply if you are targeting multiple enemies, the wording of the spell implies that each missile is 1d4+1 not that you only roll once and apply it times, and that it goes against literally decades of precedent of every single D&D edition always rolling each missile separately.
A friend of mine made me realize The Power of Friendship CD can be insanely busted if you have a summoner in your party. Cast Flock of Familiars and you can rapidly increase the number of allies you have then have your Paladin of Brilliance CD and now everyone in the party has a +20 to your saving throws, have fun with that 😀
@@tulokthebarbrarian2033 I got the multiclass idea from a comment I can no longer find. The joke is the only original part. *"Ten combat rounds...* will give you such a crick in the neck!"
Thank you, Divine Smite with Unarmed Strikes isn't overpowered, it just seemed strange at the time when it was written, when Monk was the only way to attack with a character's body rather than a weapon.
@tulok What happens if a caster drops Silence on a Pal using the Saiyan-esque Shout? It's not a spell, right, but it's dependent on other creatures being able to hear it, right? Does that just negate the power-up or does it still go through?

His Wire Weaver was essentially Spider-Man, it was really good!
Batman Ranger: Literally gloom stalker
Hulk barbarian: Is this not just berserker?
Ironman Artificer: Armorer Artificer would like a word.

You realize that translating fictional characters into D&D builds is the whole point of this channel, right?
This class is hilarious. Good build man!
Some of these abilities are high risk high reward, I love it
Yay! You finally talk about the Goku and his God power. Love it! Love your channel bud!
YOOOOOOOOO I THOUGHT I IMAGINED THAT BOOK
@@DParkerNunya its a whole series, like 15 books at this point. Feels more like an anime than a novel seires, but its fun. I doubt tulok would build it though, no footage for b-roll. Same reason he hasnt done gilgamesh... yet.
@@DParkerNunya well ya didn’t 😅 it’s a great series that recently got some new additions! Might be time for a re-read and a binge?
Back when in ye olden days when spells went off at the end of round, it was the fighter's job to make sure the wizard got his charge time safe and uninterrupted.
With the change of spells, the idea of a windup was left fallow, which is too bad cause you're right it's fun from both sides.
I'm glad this class adds it back, albeit on probably the class you'd least expect.
This is dope! Finally my dreams of becoming the legendary Super Saiyan can be real!
These subclasses are fucking awesome. Next time I'm playing in a campaign I'll have to support you on Patreon to get these subclasses for a character.
The reason you made this whole subclass is basically the same reason I created my Oath of the Witchfinder Paladin, which can choose to swap their second level fighting style when they gain the subclass to a fighting style that lets them use their smite with ranged weapons.
Cool Homebrew on my birthday (Nov 14th, I'm late seeing this video). Thanks Tulok! Aweosome video as always!
I was just thinking today “why is there not a dragon themed Warlock subclass?”
@@alphaxtitania5597 I can see your point there. I say dragons from another universe count as otherworldly, but idk. It's up to Wizards I guess.
tbh, I think a dragon-themed warlock would be kind of redundant.
Hype! I love the balance of this subclass, at least on paper.
So this subclass is what if someone combine Z Fighters, superheroes, Jojos, a little bit of Sonic, and a lot of vanity.
This is amazing!! Great abilities, flavor and options!!! I hope I can play this some day!!! Going champion fighter with the unarmed fighting style would make you a true loud fist! Lol
This has to be my favourite Tulok subclass so far in terms of flavour. This and Wire Weaver artificer are the ones I'd be most interested in playing.
(ᗒᗨᗕ)
Hey Tulok. I have Ligma…
Lig ma This is really great content and I really appreciate all the amazing work you do and this is my favourite channel on RUclips.
I am very hydrated, thank you, Tulok
Yo, imagine the Dexadin build you could make with Mage Armor
I love how this sounds, I just don’t think it’d be fun to basically skip 3-5 turns to get the most of my abilities, considering combat usually lasts around 4-7 turns normally
Agreed, but 3 turns would still confer the benefit of essentially a +3 magic weapon *to your unarmed attacks,* which is pretty nice. The hard part, in my opinion, is managing to maintain concentration when you're _clearly_ a shouting paladin who is getting stronger, which the enemies are _definitely_ going to focus fire on if they're smart.
Man this subclass is...[puts on sunglasses] Brilliant! YAAAAAAHHHH!!!!
Great job on making this subclass, it sounds interesting to play this subclass.
Holy shit you actually turned the DBZ shout into a D&D mechanic. I am beyond impressed.
Essentially have a friend sanctuary you while you're shouting, get the +10 and be invincible. Or if you know a boss is coming up start shouting outside the boss room, go super with the ultimate ability and then hand out serious assbeatings
I think barbarian rage plus the short would just be great combo thematically. Just getting punched, getting madder, and getting stronger.
What if you stand in the front and take hits while you're powering up
@@fredrickdogbe7297 You have to Concentrate on it like a spell, meaning every hit you take risks dropping concentration early. Also the fact that it'll STILL turn into "Everyone Protect the Tank" rather than the tank protecting everyone else.
I think I personally would've called it the Oath of Pride, but Brilliance works too.
This is such a damn good class
Bro that shout is soo cool!
I have to use this on a team with my hombrew oath of silence paladin that's all about rejecting glory and trying to be forgotten
This might be my favorite subclass EVER
Think about it, the enemy dimension door’s away but you still able to catch up to them
Thanks 4 the hard work
I also have a beef with one of his rulings: that Magic Missile is, RAW, a single 1d4 roll used for every missile.
Problems with this include that the rule he cites would only apply if you are targeting multiple enemies, the wording of the spell implies that each missile is 1d4+1 not that you only roll once and apply it times, and that it goes against literally decades of precedent of every single D&D edition always rolling each missile separately.
tulok is such a delight
I love all of these subclasses but this is definitely my favorite.
A friend of mine made me realize The Power of Friendship CD can be insanely busted if you have a summoner in your party. Cast Flock of Familiars and you can rapidly increase the number of allies you have then have your Paladin of Brilliance CD and now everyone in the party has a +20 to your saving throws, have fun with that 😀
Multiclassing a level in Genie Warlock and charging up in your bottled respite be like:
*"OooooooOOOIII!"*
This is a rad idea
@@tulokthebarbrarian2033 I got the multiclass idea from a comment I can no longer find. The joke is the only original part.
*"Ten combat rounds...* will give you such a crick in the neck!"
Really want to see the subclass before buying it but I'm totally invested!
Thank you, Divine Smite with Unarmed Strikes isn't overpowered, it just seemed strange at the time when it was written, when Monk was the only way to attack with a character's body rather than a weapon.
Fantastic video my good sir!
@tulok
What happens if a caster drops Silence on a Pal using the Saiyan-esque Shout? It's not a spell, right, but it's dependent on other creatures being able to hear it, right? Does that just negate the power-up or does it still go through?
Tulok: combing Paladin with Barbarian is good since you would get a -

I feel like there should be like a damage threshold ability(probably comes at like lvl 10) and when you hit it, party members with X ft get a d6 inspiration
This sounds like my new favorite class!
Cast time stop as a sorcerer and make it so the paladin has time to power up. Then just release them as a human missle, maybe using your haste to end it so they can still use other spells.
You do need two people
I could see sora just yelling light the entire time this is amazing
If only I could be so grossly incandescent
This needs to be a official thing.
I home brewed a own Artifier Subclass inspiered by this series. The Class is based on the Ligth Bariier from the Web Toon or anime Tower of good. Maybe when you finished this series you can make a serie wher you introuduce class from your audience. And talk about what you think would be problematik and what would you change when some one brougth this subclasses to your table.
You could also build a Dexadin, and only use the heavy armor to trigger AOO. That would also synergize well with Monk
this is my fav subclass so far
Have this, a wizard, 2-3 clerics (or possibly your home brew medic rogue), and this will definitely steamroll.
I would love to see him release some of this on the Dungeon Masters Guild. I would buy it.
