Do you wanna tank? Do you wanna fight? Do you want a class that'll instill fright? Take up some plate and keep the goblins in sight, cause you wanna make sure they eat this paladin's SMITE!
Party I've been dming for for 7 years. Started our current campaign by telling them all "we'll be playing a pretty low magic world, so just keep that in mind" and they decided to play an entire party of Human Fighters named John
I've always wanted to play in a party of 3 paladins and 2 clerics and RP either a religious battle against evil, or fully embrace the inquisition and root out diabolical heresy.
We had a mini side campaign when one of our regulars was away in Europe for a month where we did just that. 3 paladins 1 cleric going to the Feywild to, uhhh, "convince" them to give us their ancient artifacts. It was set hundreds of years prior to our main game, and one of our characters ended up being a lieutenant of the BBEG in our main campaign. It was tons of fun
Alternatively: a party with a paladin, a cleric, a zealot barbarian, a celestial warlock, and a divine soul sorcerer all connected to the same entity but in different ways
I recently played an Inquisitor inspired character in a short campaign. It was an Artificer Artillerist though. Flavor is free and Inquisitor as a Fireadept flamethrower useing Artillerist was just to good to miss out on.
I played a game once with the "Kobold Krew" 4 kobold paladins and 2 kobold monks who thought they were holy good guys but were actually hit men working for an evil temple that took them in as orphans. Pack tactics meant that everybody had advantage all of the time and so many stunning strikes and smites just turned every combat encounter into a meat grinder.
For picking up the cantrips for ranged combat, don’t forget that the Redemption Paladin can pick up a couple with the Blessed Warrior fighting style. So you don’t need to invest a feat into it if you don’t want to.
For flying enemies, remember command is on the Paladin spell list. Commanding them to “Land” or “Grovel” could really turn the tide on flying enemies. You just need them on the ground for one turn to get wrecked.
Oath of Vengeance (Unrelenting Avenger special) paladin must be a flyer race with a spear and tunnel fighter. .. and maybe a couple levels of Warlock for that Hadars Grasp/Lance of Lethargy combo on the eldritch blast. There is no escape.
The redemption Paladin takes the criminal background for proficiency in thieves tools. He also takes shadow touched for invisibility. So he is the dexterous, invisible infiltrator with a silver tongue.
@@BeardedDragonitehere’s 2 more cents: - You should probably decide who the “Leader” is before the campaign. This one should always be red, regardless of their Oath. - if the vengeance Paladin is not the leader, they should be probably be black, unless… - if there is a female party member, pink should be considered for them (although it’s not required, as multiple power Ranger teams did not have a pink Ranger). It would also be excellent to me to have a pink Vengeance Paladin. - if there is ever an older Paladin that you want to mentor your group, you can give them a non-standard color like Purple, Grey, or Teal. You can also use these if you ever introduce a new player to the campaign.
this reminds me, i'd love to have a party of all rogues, each a different subclass, all of them hiding that they're a rogue, but none of them realizing the others are also rogues
@@Wintermute909apparently the Shadar Kai does it even better. Might make a nice oath of glory or vengeance paladin, or an oath of the crown that swears allegiance to the Raven Queen/setting specific equivalent.
Before I watch each of these "All [class] Party" videos, I sit down and put my party together. I made the *exact* same party as you guys. Vengeance, Ancients, Redemption, and Watchers, with honorable mention to Conquest. I think the Dex based Redemption Paladin could take a heavy crossbow and crossbow expert so that there was some range in the group. It's okay if they can't smite at range, their slots are being used for utility/support/control.
Their backgrounds can take care of picking locks and dealing with traps (the dex based paladin) and exploration can also be shored up with backgrounds.
One potential problem which can come up is that the Paladins' Oaths may conflict, leading to the party getting split up, or not working well together in other ways. A smart foe who knows about the Paladins and their Oaths will attempt to take advantage of it.
Looking forward to the All Bard Party. The traveling Musicians who, crafting ballads of their own adventures. And, mechanically, I can't really think of much a party of Bards would struggle with.
Now I want to plan out a Power Rangers-inspired campaign with an all-Paladin party. Character creation would be the biggest challenge, and probably need to happen together to make sure the party gels...
You might be pleased to know there actually is a Power Rangers TTRPG. It's actually quite interesting mechanically and pretty flexible whether you want to play existing ranger teams or your own original one.
@@gustaafargoan An all ranger party with longbows could be a nightmare for an all paladin party. Since they don't really rely on damage spells/save spells and have high mobility with good accuracy (archery style + bless from fey touched will definately be able to defeat the paladins AC plenty of times to becomes a problem) which work great with hit-and-run tactics as well as summons (both are something paladins don't, range and mobs) to be 1 of the better all parties to be able to chalenge a party of paladins.
I know this means literally nothing online but as they began I was thinking “hmmm vengeance is a given, redemption, ancients, and either conquest or watchers… ehhh watchers probably” and seeing them go down that entire list 5/5 was so awesome to experience
I honestly love the power ranger idea for paladins. And there was a campaign from a group on here called the spellcast. Sadly they haven't posted anything in a while.
I ruled that smite can work on ranged attacks for my Paladin who wanted to play as a Ranger multi class made a custom subclass for him "The oath of the subtle" took some inspiration from Rouge assassin and shadow hunter. The aura they get becomes a way they can meld their look into the surroundings. Imagine a cloaking spell, not invisible because at close range you can absolutely see them if you wanted to or were searching but at a distance they are nearly gone. She wanted to be this dark paladin spec ops type so I've made it fit she tends to climb to the highest point and rain down arrows on the fodder and then when the boss shows she does her smite which I ruled wasn't her smiting but over drawing her bow and to do this she uses her spell slot to give her muscles a steroid like boost for that attack. She can still smite up close but she doesn't do that. Great RP from her as well she caught a thief stealing the parties stuff shot an arrow in the guys leg and held him over a bridge to interrogate them.
Its worth noting that a set of Winged Boots would basically solve the entire party's flying enemy problems. Also, you can solve a lot of exploration problems simply by picking the right race. For example, minotaurs always know which way is north and give advantage on survival checks. Earth genasis give you Pass Without Trace for sneaking around, radiant soul aasimar gives you flight even with heavy armour once a day for a minute, and so on. Edit: I'm getting so many more ideas for stuff you can do with races, for example, air genasis give you Levitate, you can just all stand on a large metal disc or something and levitate yourself to the top of a cliff. Dhampir give you spider climb, while tabaxis give you a climb speed, and feline agility for the movement burst when you need it. Duergar and the Bloodline of Glasya tiefling give you invisibility, the Bloodline of Fierna tiefling gives you Charm Person and Suggestion (since you mentioned this in the social interactions section)
I mean if you can't Multiclass there's no reason why you couldn't just be a dex biased paladin and play a flying race with light armor and go with the defense fighting style and use a shield you can still have a good ac.
It should also be mentioned that feats and races aren't the only avenue for more spells, since there's a Paladin specific Fighting Style for grabbing a couple Cleric cantrips that a Charisma focused build could use (though just picking up Eldritch Blast from a feat with Human/Custom Lineage does eliminate the Cha-focused member needing to also be the Dex specialist, feel like those should be two different party members). Or even for picking up utility cantrips if not Cha-focused.
@@adambielen8996 I had the same thought, but looking through it the Archfey doesn't have much to augment social interactions beyond a couple spells. It's a high charisma party so that shouldn't be too much of an issue
Because that's not technically a "ranged attack", it's still a melee weapon attack with a melee weapon. But yes, terminology aside, good idea to get enough reach to make melee attacks from far enough away from melee that enemies would have to take opportunity attacks to get to you, or couldn't push through the group of your allies. Attacking a fire elemental or something, you will still burn yourself, but most of the time it's as good. Except you don't have a "long range" with disadvantage. You can't use Sharpshooter + Archery fighting style, but Greatweapon Master is good, too.
Divine Smite may not work on ranged weapons, but Improved Divine Smite *does* work with thrown melee weapons such as daggers, ~~darts~~, and Javelins Edit: darts are ranged, so they don't qualify. Since they have the "thrown" property, I forget they aren't melee
@@avenwilliams6332 but that would involve multiclass! make some of the party mambers pick up Ritual Caster feat and Magic Initiate feat! I would recomend that someone picks up Shadow Touched, to get Invisibility and possibly upcasting it later! this would alow for exploration to be abit easier!
Oath of Vengeance paladin must be a flyer race with a spear... and maybe a couple levels of Warlock for that Hadars Grasp/Lance of Lethargy combo on the eldritch blast. There is no escape.
I sorta turned that “send us your BEST!” And turned it on its head in my campaign. I’m running Naturverden, my homebrew 5e campaign. The hook is “the goblin raids on the north stopped just over a month ago- Civilization’s Light (the militant religious order) is still recruiting followers, trade has slowed, and the Druid circles have decided to send a team to investigate. You’re each just barely past being an initiate, and so you’re being sent to represent your circles both as a cultural exchange and to give equal weight to those going to find out what’s happened.”
I gotta say I love this channel! I still haven't even had ONE session of DND but this channel's got me hooked! Super interesting and you guys re the best! Keep it up!
A dexterity Paladin with thieves' tools proficiency and stealth from background can still be pretty sneaky and thieflike. Since you're not multiclassing you don't need strength.
I feel like it’s worth noting that you don’t necessarily have to have your high dex and high Charisma based Paladin be the same one. In your party, you can have the redemption paladin be high charisma while have the watcher be high Dex. That way, if you have the redemption paladin wear heavy armor and you give them Eldritch Blast, you don’t need to worry about Dex at all. This way, you can give the watcher Paladin a bow (along with, say, a rapier or whip), and with that and Vengeance Paladin’s ability to teleport and haste, ranged enemies don’t seem as bad as they could be.
Paladins would actually fit grey wardens quite well with their sense ability being similar to a warden sensing dark spawn. I disagree with the other comment; blood hunters and rangers fit a Witcher better than a Warden. The Wardens are quite mixed but we see a lot of them in heavy armor outside the first game (Allistair or Loghain as well as the other fellow whose name escapes me). Between the armor and sensing wardens fit paladins better. They also have an oath they swear witch fits the theme of a paladin.
Just have your Dex based Paladin as a Wood Elf and take Wood Elf Magic as a feat. Pass Without Trace and Longstrider, also free Longbow proficiency. While you can't smite with ranged attacks, you could use the Battlemaster feat and use it for trip attack.
Paladins are actually already proficient in longbows, as they are proficient in all simple and martial weapons (not just melee). It’s easy to forget since Paladins don’t often have a great dex score and/or you can’t smite with a ranged attack.
@@CyberDrewan I realized that after, but taking a Wood Elf does give you access to Pass Without Trace as part of the WEM feat, and even Elven Accuracy if you want to offset something like Sharpshooter instead of taking the Battlemaster Maneuvers. That's a lot of feats but if you're concentrating on Dex as your main score and are ok with sticking with a 16 Con and a 14 Charisma I think you can get away with it in this party.
@@Sunstreaker2k5 I do think Wood elf is a good choice for this type of Paladin, especially because Pass without a Trace and +2 dex are so good. I was just trying to point out that the longbow proficiency is not why you should be picking this race (although Elven Accuracy does makes up for this).
22:30 you guys do know you can get Aasimar wings or Dragonborn wings right? If that’s your big weakness it’s not hard to figure out seeing as how we are planning it out in this format
Yeah, race fixes a lot of the problems. Earth Genasi for Pass Without Trace, Kobold for ranged Cantrip, Gem Dragonborn for Flight, and then of course the Vengeance is Variant Human
Great Paladin build I love in terms of weapon type: Halberd or Poleaxe with Sentinel and Polearm Master! Makes for a great control build which you can put on whatever oath you want.
I have not played D&D in over thirty years, but your videos temp me back every time. Your passion for the game is infectious and I thank you. You guys rock.
This series always makes me wanna play a monoclass party, there's something so freeing in this forcing imagination & originality. Essentially making everyone be more than just their class trope, but in a fun & fluid way, just sounds so cool to play
You can mitigate some of their weaknesses with strategic race picks. Have an Earth Genasi for Pass Without Trace. Pick a flying race for your lighter armored character, and similar tricks. It won’t fully compensate for their weaknesses but it would help.
WOW! I've followed you guys for a few years now and always loved your content. Yet I don't remember ever being as blown away as in this episode. At first it seemed like Monty was going down a rabbit hole with the Power Ranger idea but instead he lays out the whole concept and blew my mind! Seriously never more impressed by you guys than in this episode! Well done!
@@DungeonDudes I am looking forward to the warlock since that is the class I am currently playing. I know that the subclasses will be hexblade for the frontline, celestial for healing, probably genie for wish, and one other (which I hope is the undead because it is subclass I been using).
Love this idea. I'd throw a Cleric or a Divine Soul sorcerer into the party too & create a thematically 'Journey to the West' crusader themed party - imagine the fun to be had having the do Descent into Avernus (& for the DM too trying to corrupt them), or going up against Strahd, or even Escaping from the Abys (particualarly the 2nd half) - all classic holy vs unholy.
When you were describing the castle, I was thinking it sounded similar to Voltron (at least the remake series) and now I want to have a Voltron dnd campaign.
In a campaign I ran a few years back, I had a player who had a half-elf paladin oath of the ancient with the outlander background. He was *more* than fine as a pseudo ranger.
Campaign/one shot idea: you have a group of paladins, one of which as lost faith in their own Oath, becoming an oath breaker and the whole campaign is the group going on an adventure to rekindle the character’s Oath. How Stella got her grove back but with paladins.
I love this so much, similar to an idea I had where a group of paladin friends split after taking their oaths but promised to meet back with Eachother later in life
Flight isn’t really a problem as all four have access to command:grovel instantly forcing the target to fall prone. When a flying creature is knocked prone it stops flying, and if that creature is 60 feet up well…
Imagine a Power Rangers campaign that starts at level zero. The Paladins-to-be discover an ancient castle, guided by a vision of a dying goddess. The Archivist there tells you that he too follows the goddess, and if the players swear their oaths, they can take their first step on the journey to becoming Her champions. During the course of the campaign, they recruit more allies to live in the castle and rebuild the order. They also gain an artifact that allows the goddess to project an image of herself inside the castle. She is very kind, very eloquent, and so proud of you. Levels go by, and the Paladins have done much in the service of their goddess. One day, the Archivist tells them that they have proven themselves, and that it is time for the next stage of their journey. He leads them down a secret passage, showing them the secret basement of the castle where the goddess is waiting, and then he leaves to give them all privacy. The basement is strange and metallic, with cables hanging from the ceiling, with a desk covered in buttons, and frames of black glass covered in a layer of dust. The goddess is there waiting, and she tells the Paladins that she was once like them, serving her own god-she became her god’s champion, and one day ascended to become a goddess in her own right. The players have proven their loyalty, and now is the day they become her champions. Then, a small device brings out the Tadpoles. Because, you see, all of the allies the party has recruited have already been turned into Mind Flayers. The Archivist had an Intellect Devourer in his head since before he met the party. The basement under the castle is a Nautilus spaceship that crashed thousands of years ago. And, worst of all, their “goddess” is an Elder Brain. (Just me taking two Dungeon Dudes ideas and putting them together in the most devious way >:D)
"Revenge and redemption both tread the same lines." Unchained by Colm McGuinnness. I do love the idea of an all Paladin party. A spelljammer campaign could allow a Green Lantern Core type vibe from the party. If I remember right there was a story arc in DC where several of the different lantern cores had to team up to stop an undead horde (the black lanterns)
The DEX Paladin definitely wants to be an Elf of some description, because they can get four tool proficiencies from creation by swapping their Elf Weapon Training proficiencies per TCoE, and at least one could be a Drow, and take Drow High Magic for the Levitation spell. Dwarves could also pull the tool proficiency trick. I do feel like this being a party of all Elves would work nicely too.
There are 3 main archetypes of Paladins: the primary caster, who focuses on constitution and charisma. There's the frontline support, who focuses on Strength and Charisma, and the Beater/Tank, who focuses on Strength and constitution. You definitely want one of each of these, and I feel like there's a great spot here for a dexadin, who can act as more of the flex character. My picks would be: Con/Cha caster: Oath of the Ancients. They will probably be targetted by spells the most, and with Eldritch Blast and some other spellcasting, I think Ancients would make for a great spellcaster. Str/Cha frontline: Oath of Glory. Between Oath of Glory and Oath of the Crown, these two paladins simply aren't taking damage. The two of them are a mobile and unstoppable fortress. Con/Str Beater: Oath of the Crown. They get extra tankiness, and want to stay next to an ally to tank with/for them. Throw in Spirit Guardians or Bless and you are eating well. This also is a good Con/Cha caster. Dexadin: Gotta go with Oath of the Watchers. Watchers has a lot going for it, and a lot of utility, but can be built in many different ways, making for an excellent flex dexadin. Throw in Fey Touched for Hex and Misty Step, and you have a mobile and deadly Dexadin
7:35 Smite doesn't work on range but it DOES on thrown Crawford, Feb 27, 2018: The act of throwing a melee weapon doesn't transform it into a ranged weapon. Melee and ranged are categories of weapons in the rules You could use any weapon with the melee-throw tag like hand axe, javelin, spear, dagger - Only reason I know this is from a build I made using the father from Boondock Saints as a Ranger-Bard bounty hunter. Instead of pistols, I used his vest for throwing axes and went around as an axe-juggling storyteller.
@@greyelf1537 but wait it gets better, once you get level 8 spell slots you can have 3 druids summon 8 raptors each and then the fourth druid turns them all into CR 4 elephants, so you can have 24 elephants that are all secretly velociraptors
Two things: First, I'm looking forward to seeing an all-Ranger video as I have personally run a one-shot with all Rangers. Second: WHERE can I get a hat like Kelly's? 👍
YES RANGERS! But also you could make a store of just what Kelly wears week to week and u would he one of the kost well dressed and dope looking dudes out there lol 😂
For the weakness of ranged attacks not smiting, id look at branding smite, whether it be a mistake or not, all it says is 'when you hit a creature with a weapon attack before this spell ends...' where as other ones, such as blinding smites 'when you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack during this spells duration...' which implies branding smite can be used ranged, there is another one that does, i think its banishing smite, but idk
I don't think you have to min-max per se to make the most of these single class ideas, but if the players work together, they can still make fairly well-balanced groups that will still have distinct strengths and weaknesses. The key for the DM is to craft the challenges to account for those things, and it really helps to flavor the campaign such that it's made for a party of that class. It exists in a world where that single class party makes sense and is the right one for the overall theme. But even if you just dump such a group into a "standard" world, you have to be aware of what that means and what they're capable of. Good series.
About 4 years ago a friend of mine ran a OneShot for me and maybe 5 other people all playing Paladins, all Level 20, each with one Boon explainable through our backstory, plus we all got ‘married’ to gain the bonuses associated with that, PLUS in the fever dream that was building these characters, we decided we’d all JUST gotten married and were embarking on the OneShot (to go down and kill Tiamat) for our Honeymoon. It was a crazy blast, and our friend ran an amazing session. He’d cut out cardboard jigsaw shapes to simulate an aerial battlefield of flying chunks of rock we had to jump around on while fighting Tiamat and her many Wyvern servants. We razed hell and downed the Mother of All Dragons in probably 4 or 5 rounds, but it took about 5 hours to do. I loved it so much, I’ve set my current campaign in the world left by the Power Vacuum of Tiamat being killed, and it’s only a matter of time before my players realize they’re dealing with the aftermath of that epic fight, and I am so looking forward to it.
One thing for the conquest paladin though thats helps with the party weakness is the aura of conquest against the ranged and flying enemies, being able to inflict the frightening condition will impose disadvantage on attack rolls against the whole party if they arent already fleeing in terror, and if you could find a way to get a conquest paladin up to a flying enemy, unless they have hover, if you successfully inflict the frightened condition, it will fall out of the sky with its speed reduced to zero by the aura, so while some other folks have suggested such things as boots of flying, or a race with access to flight, those would really shine on a conquest paladin against that particular weakness.
I’d rather say I’d have Conquest over vengeance as my sword as you put it. You get spiritual weapon as a spell which can give range in a sense and back up your or another party member’s damage. Maybe help keep the Redemption party member a little safer too. Also magic items, backgrounds, and features can help with the exploration gaps. Also this would be the party to destroy Curse of Strahd lol
Well, vengeance is gonna be better for pure damage, just from yourself. With the advantage with their Chanel divinity, the can’t run away from me, using their opportunity attacks, the misty step, hunter’s mark, haste. They are just better in pure form of “I attack and you die” as a sword that’s what you want to do
Skill Expert gives +1 to an attribute, proficiency in any skill, and expertise in one of your skills. It can fit into almost any build and will come in clutch for these 4 man martial teams. Especially if everyone on the team takes it and goes for a different skill. Given that the paladin wants to keep there team mates close for aura benefits, weapons with reach are going to be very useful here.
After seeing this video, I need to homebrew an Oath of Silence subclass for Paladins. A sort of stealth inquisitor. The Church's secret police/spy network. They could get access to their own version of a subtle spell mechanic, an aura that adds your charisma mod to stealth checks, and anyone in the aura who strikes an enemy with advantage gets extra radiant damage. And the ability to smite on ranged or thrown weapons.
I see multiple tropes for those paladins team, you could have a swat team vibe enforcing laws in large city (judge Dread or Robocop) you could have a Bernardo Gi inquisition team burning witches or/and innocents, you could have a redneck country sheriffs dealing with cattle robbers and then discovering a mind flayer cult around a huge spacecraft (cowboys and aliens), you could have a crusade plot against IUZ, gathering a whole army in Keoland, struggling with counts and dukes in a court, righteousness against chicanery (Grima in Rohan) and what about a religious dispute with good reasons on both sides a heartbreaking story bringing our characters to the edge of the dark side….so much to invent and to live THX guys for your amazing work through the years ❤❤❤
This discussion reminds me of a series by David Eddings called The Elenium. It consists of three books, The Diamond Throne, The Ruby Knight, and The Sapphire Rose. The story revolves around a quest of the champion knights of four holy orders to combat a plot to unleash an ancient god. Great story with awesome characters. Also, they could help their exploration with careful choices in backgrounds. Picking an urchin background for thieves' tools and outlander for survival knowledge could help with a lot. However, they will still struggle with puzzles.
The ultimate paladin quest for.......... a shubbery!!! :o) Awesome video as always; looking forward to seeing Monty and Kelly's thoughts on an all druid party.
The greatest challenge for an all party, one class , setting I have experienced is something that I wouldn’t recommend for the average/ random table. We were all thieves, working from competing guilds. We were actively working together and against each other. We incorporated the Allan B. Calhamer, Diplomacy Game, into D&D. It was a backstabbing chaotic frenzy fueled marathon. We all knew what we were in stored for and have been playing cooperative as well as competitive war games for decades. Usually I avoid PvP D&D, but when you all agree and the starting gun goes off, you hit the ground running and don’t look back.
I love the way people talk about smiting the life out of the bad guys really quickly 😂 As a person who loves playing as a Paladin, I’m always aware that a divine smite only works if you can hit the target.
i think all paladins would work if it's done intentionally, that way the dm is expecting it and can plan around it, but if it happened by accident and 4 players just happened to turn up with nothing but paladin character sheets... i would hate to be the dm who has to handle this on the fly and improv it. i mean it's all well and good if they can pan around each others weaknesses, but if it happened by accident there would be no guarantee of that and you could end up with a horrible mix that just plain wouldn't work. hearing about power rangers made me think about an all ranger party, the local hunting guild has assembled a crack team to investigate strange fauna and poaching etc in the area. that idea resonates with me a lot.
You could always have the redemption paladin with his higher dex take the criminal background for stealth and lockpicks. The former criminal who is now striving for redemption.
The 1 Dex Paladin adds ranged attacks and all of your Rogue stuff. The high Cha Paladin adds Eldritch Blast. 2 ranged attacks Someone else mentioned Improved Smite lets the other 2 use Thrown weapons... but you also have useful spells you don't NEED to Smite. 1 character needs Ritual Caster. The only real weakness is Wisdom Skills, but 1 player can choose to have an OK Wisdom. You don't have to beat the Cleric/Druid. No one wins that fight, except them. Sidenote. I want them all to be women and when they kick in the door they shout "Nun's Out, Guns Out", but it's a strength based party so they are flexing.
Devotion would be a great choice for a dex paladin adding CHA to attack roll. The ancients paladin ensnaring strike also works on javelins. Wildhunt shifter gains advantage on wisdom checks when shifted and when prone they don't get advantage, so with the athlete and sharp shooter feats you have a decent kiting archer, although the Hoopak is a cool weapon too, so it's a great race for either devotion or ancients paladin.
I played in a party with two paladins and one was Vengeance, Dex based with 1 level in Draconic bloodline sorcerer for that juicy AC bonus while naked. Good scout and DPS.
"Paladin Party Extravaganza!" Picture it: a group of holy warriors marching in unison, clad in shining armor, smiting evil left and right. The world would be in awe of their righteousness and their impressive dental hygiene!
My biggest concern is that they all have INT and WIS as dump stats, so investigation and perception are gonna be awful, as they stroll through life in blissful ignorance
I ran a game of D&D that was basically Power Rangers once. Each party member had a brightly-colored suit of armor and magical weapon they could summon, and they eventually each got a giant robot. Not long after they got them, though, there was a TPK, and a new party had to go up against a big bad that now had giant, combining robots.
"Redemption is our shield, Vengeance is our sword, guided by the Ancients, we watch out, ever vigilant."
Do you wanna tank? Do you wanna fight? Do you want a class that'll instill fright? Take up some plate and keep the goblins in sight, cause you wanna make sure they eat this paladin's SMITE!
Thanks Jo

For picking up the cantrips for ranged combat, don’t forget that the Redemption Paladin can pick up a couple with the Blessed Warrior fighting style. So you don’t need to invest a feat into it if you don’t want to.

Oath of Vengeance (Unrelenting Avenger special) paladin must be a flyer race with a spear and tunnel fighter. .. and maybe a couple levels of Warlock for that Hadars Grasp/Lance of Lethargy combo on the eldritch blast. There is no escape.
My favourite in that scenario is "Crash"
Stuck outside with flying enemies harassing you? Just go inside! They can't hit you through the roof!
The redemption Paladin takes the criminal background for proficiency in thieves tools. He also takes shadow touched for invisibility. So he is the dexterous, invisible infiltrator with a silver tongue.
If you dont give each Paladin in this party an individual Primary Color Id be greatly disappointed at such a great missed opportunity
My 2 cents"
Vengeance - Red
Redemption - Blue
Ancients - Green
Watchers - White/Grey/yellow (I can't decide)
Power Rangers!
@@BeardedDragoniteif only green was a primary color.
@@BeardedDragonitehere’s 2 more cents:
- You should probably decide who the “Leader” is before the campaign. This one should always be red, regardless of their Oath.
- if the vengeance Paladin is not the leader, they should be probably be black, unless…
- if there is a female party member, pink should be considered for them (although it’s not required, as multiple power Ranger teams did not have a pink Ranger). It would also be excellent to me to have a pink Vengeance Paladin.
- if there is ever an older Paladin that you want to mentor your group, you can give them a non-standard color like Purple, Grey, or Teal. You can also use these if you ever introduce a new player to the campaign.
@@CyberDrewan you had me at pink vengeance

Races like Earth Genasi for Pass without Trace would also be a boon.
@@aaronwhite1882kenku could also help w/ it's ability to forge.

Character creation would be the biggest challenge, and probably need to happen together to make sure the party gels...
all barbarians -> power ra(n)gers
You might be pleased to know there actually is a Power Rangers TTRPG. It's actually quite interesting mechanically and pretty flexible whether you want to play existing ranger teams or your own original one.
Rangers are on deck, this is about Paladins.
@@JugglingAddict Rangers are on deck. This is about Paladins.
Changeling to get infiltration?
levitate does have a weight limit
@@adamkaris Yes but it also lasts 10 mins so you can take turns levitating up and down on a disc or slab
Really looking forward to the All Warlock Party video. My picks would probably be Hexblade, Celestial, Genie, and either Fiend or Fathomless
I absolutely agree with the first 3. My suggestion for 4th would be Archfey as they get a lot of social abilities (your choices are good too though).
@@adambielen8996 I had the same thought, but looking through it the Archfey doesn't have much to augment social interactions beyond a couple spells. It's a high charisma party so that shouldn't be too much of an issue
@@Fishbiene Yeah, I guess I misremembered that. Other than Dark Delirium it is just some spells. But Dominate Beast and Person are great spells.
You can smite on ranged attacks, you just need a specific build. Bugbear + reach weapon + lunging attack = 20ft smite
You dont even need a feat for ranged cantrips if you take Blessed Warrior fighting style.
Divine Smite may not work on ranged weapons, but Improved Divine Smite *does* work with thrown melee weapons such as daggers, ~~darts~~, and Javelins
Edit: darts are ranged, so they don't qualify. Since they have the "thrown" property, I forget they aren't melee
You know what does work with ranged weapons? Eldritch smite
@@avenwilliams6332 yes, but they specifically said no multiclassing in the video.
So divinely smiting something seems to correlate with forward momentum
Darts aren't mele weapons.
You can do it with any mele weapon but it's optimal to use those with the thrown property.
the Dex pally could be an Owlin or other flying race to help with flying enemies
In a RNG campaign, I played a Tabaxi Paladin. That character could chase down anybody! Lol
Oath of Vengeance paladin must be a flyer race with a spear... and maybe a couple levels of Warlock for that Hadars Grasp/Lance of Lethargy combo on the eldritch blast. There is no escape.
yes smart
I sorta turned that “send us your BEST!” And turned it on its head in my campaign.
I’m running Naturverden, my homebrew 5e campaign.
The hook is “the goblin raids on the north stopped just over a month ago- Civilization’s Light (the militant religious order) is still recruiting followers, trade has slowed, and the Druid circles have decided to send a team to investigate. You’re each just barely past being an initiate, and so you’re being sent to represent your circles both as a cultural exchange and to give equal weight to those going to find out what’s happened.”
My reaction to reading "What if everyone plays a paladin?" in the thumbnail was "Then we retake the Holy Land!" =)
I gotta say I love this channel! I still haven't even had ONE session of DND but this channel's got me hooked! Super interesting and you guys re the best! Keep it up!
The curse of the internet age, watching more DND content than actually playing
A dexterity Paladin with thieves' tools proficiency and stealth from background can still be pretty sneaky and thieflike.
Since you're not multiclassing you don't need strength.
And because you're proficient with both light and medium armor as well, you can totally play a Studded Leather + Shield DEX Paladin
I am very curious what a all warlock party would look like, besides nap time often.
That could be pretty good RP. They are all chronically tired, either old people or college students where short rest is flavoured as coffee
Love these topics as well as the multi class class ones. Keep showing your personalities more!!!!!
Would be a great way to play a batch of Grey Wardens in a dragon age setting.
Templars are paladins. Grey Wardens are more rangers or blood hunters.
@@sterlingauty4186 Honestly, I'd just have them be normal fighters/mages/rogues/rangers/whatever and give them a template for the sensing stuff.
The fact that all 3 start with 18 AC makes them incredible hard to kill
These full party videos have been awesome! Monty python is too good not to quote
I was literally thinking about the Monty Python skit about "Knights of the Round Table" as they brought them up the first time. 😂
Pass without trace can be acquired by a wood elf with the wood elf magic feat allowing for a +9 to stealth for all members
Great Paladin build I love in terms of weapon type:
Halberd or Poleaxe with Sentinel and Polearm Master! Makes for a great control build which you can put on whatever oath you want.
Another inspiration for an “oops all Paladins” party is the Mandalorian - especially season 3, which really feels like a D&D campaign
I think you could make the all paladin group the Sailor Scouts.
Also, have one take the ritual caster feat and a large number of utility spells are immediately available to a well-resourced party
I absolutely love this format, please make it for every class!
WOW! I've followed you guys for a few years now and always loved your content. Yet I don't remember ever being as blown away as in this episode. At first it seemed like Monty was going down a rabbit hole with the Power Ranger idea but instead he lays out the whole concept and blew my mind!

You guys are just so awesome! It makes me want to do nothing but play dnd.
I love this so much, similar to an idea I had where a group of paladin friends split after taking their oaths but promised to meet back with Eachother later in life
This would be great for a Bretonnian Knights Errant campaign, where it starts with a battle, and only the player characters are left out of their unit
I pictured the ancients paladin being dex based, being whip and shield or rapier and shield.
An Indiana Jones Paladin?
Crown Paladin is highly underrated in an all paladin party. Their aoe lockdown is really handy in big fights, and can keep enemies on/near the ground.
That Monty Python compilation was the best thing ever 😂😂😂😂😂
Before I even watch: I can already feel the local vampire shitting his pants at the very idea of this party
My picks would be:
Con/Cha caster: Oath of the Ancients.
I've been waiting for this one!
You guys rock!
7:35 Smite doesn't work on range but it DOES on thrown
Crawford, Feb 27, 2018: The act of throwing a melee weapon doesn't transform it into a ranged weapon. Melee and ranged are categories of weapons in the rules
You could use any weapon with the melee-throw tag like hand axe, javelin, spear, dagger - Only reason I know this is from a build I made using the father from Boondock Saints as a Ranger-Bard bounty hunter. Instead of pistols, I used his vest for throwing axes and went around as an axe-juggling storyteller.
This group also reminds me of a group of inquisitors from the Wheel of Time series.

They are just better in pure form of “I attack and you die” as a sword that’s what you want to do
This has made me crave a super powered, supreme himbo/herbo, all-Paladin campaign.
I see multiple tropes for those paladins team, you could have a swat team vibe enforcing laws in large city (judge Dread or Robocop) you could have a Bernardo Gi inquisition team burning witches or/and innocents, you could have a redneck country sheriffs dealing with cattle robbers and then discovering a mind flayer cult around a huge spacecraft (cowboys and aliens), you could have a crusade plot against IUZ, gathering a whole army in Keoland, struggling with counts and dukes in a court, righteousness against chicanery (Grima in Rohan) and what about a religious dispute with good reasons on both sides a heartbreaking story bringing our characters to the edge of the dark side….so much to invent and to live THX guys for your amazing work through the years ❤❤❤
Dex-based elf Vengeance Paladin with Medium Armor Master and Elven Accuracy. The focus fire is deadly.
My table has a house rule that only one Holy Grail reference is allowed per session. We take it pretty seriously.
My Wood Elf Ancients Paladin with the wood elf magic feat had pass without trace, which helped the party so much during the one shot I was playing
The skill situation gets much better if everyone plays a half-elf.
I love the way people talk about smiting the life out of the bad guys really quickly 😂
As a person who loves playing as a Paladin, I’m always aware that a divine smite only works if you can hit the target.
i think all paladins would work if it's done intentionally, that way the dm is expecting it and can plan around it, but if it happened by accident and 4 players just happened to turn up with nothing but paladin character sheets... i would hate to be the dm who has to handle this on the fly and improv it. i mean it's all well and good if they can pan around each others weaknesses, but if it happened by accident there would be no guarantee of that and you could end up with a horrible mix that just plain wouldn't work.
hearing about power rangers made me think about an all ranger party, the local hunting guild has assembled a crack team to investigate strange fauna and poaching etc in the area. that idea resonates with me a lot.
2 ranged attacks
Someone else mentioned Improved Smite lets the other 2 use Thrown weapons... but you also have useful spells you don't NEED to Smite.
I love these videos so much, so much creativity.
Paladin is my favorite class. So versatile and epic
Friends of mine did this, near the beginning of 5th ed. I didn't get to play in that campaign but they all described it as amazing...
I love the collection of Monty Python quotes to emphasize the weaknesses of the mono-paladin team. That was hilarious!
I have done many campaigns where everyone was the same class all with different subclasses. Was very fun.
