Was going to say the same. Just did it yesterday!
It is given to you when you get through making Laylaps in the questline. "Trace of Metal", it's the quest you talk to Tethys and you'll get the Minotaur along with all the body part upgrades. It's still to bad you can't recolour the parts after upgrading 😩
the best exo is the minotaur with an AI core.
also upgrade its cannons
it will fight along side you and if you need a quick way to get outta battle or out of bad weather you can still jump inside.
Also the best land based craft after converting your minotaur into a companion is the hover craft bike thing when you have its engine and boost upgraded.
Though the new sentinel starships also hover, so it kinda makes the bike things obsolete.
The issue ive always had with exocrafts is that they just take so long to get around on with that its really just better off using your starship.
It's weird to drive due to uneven terrain, to put it lightly. And there doesn't seem to be much benefit to exploring on wheels.
They're still cool though.
Yep, I don't like the any of the exocraft, I'm not sure they add anything & the lack of expansion on them doesn't help. I understand HG were pushing their use a while ago ... IMO, if you want us to use them, then fix them.
I watched your 7 hour stream of the 1st No Starter Ship run you did while I did my new permadeath no starter ship game yesterday.
Took me 11 hours to get off that accursed rock.
I found an archive in around 3 hours, but because of the nerf on cobalt, the inflated price of ships and the cargo limits of permadeath, it took me 7 hours to mine and refine enough to get the 6 million for a ship. 😂
And then just like your save, after all that suffering, I was tripping over crashed ships and trading posts. I got an S class pistol for free solving some smelly Gek's riddle and a crashed hauler worth 80,000,000 and then in the first wave at the station an S class Solar came in.
Like Ol' Saint Murray was smiling down on me in recompense for 7 hours of shooting rocks.
I now have my own interceptor. It's purple, it's got three eyes, a single thruster (which I prefer) and a flattened 4-wing plan. Oh and it's S-rank. I love it.
As for exocraft... Beyond me for now, but I am liking the look of the Batman motorcycle.
In case you have forgotten every time you port into a new system you can call the Anomaly and get a backpack upgrade there as well as the Station one. 🙂

I love that they added more space in the minotaur! With all the upgrades, (plus new hardbody components)
I barely had any room for practical supplies! 😂
I got a Minotaur by following the settlement story line. A few days after defending the settlement you are sent to the outpost where the sentinels are coming from. After defeating that, I got a Minotaur arm as a reward, and a Minotaur blueprint at the same time.
I use the paralysis mortar with the shotgun. Makes them hold still so I can hit them. Im terrible at aiming. The minotaur is useful for sentinel fights, but that piece that requires acid always seems to get damaged and the minotaur won't function without it, so I usually don't install it, until I have a decent backup of acid. Also for best minotaur results, you should do the outpost missions.
You should call your Minator "Backup"

Yeah, I didn't want to say anything in case they changed it, but yes, you do need to have an exocraft spawn point somewhere once you leave the system. It will work after you pick it up in the same system, but if you go to a different system, you'll need to put it down again.

I love having B.o.B (my minotaur) with me when im fighting and going on long mining trips but if im straight travelling and exploring i take the nomad(underwater i either use bob or the nautilous)

That S-Class scanner upgrade was a quite bad roll. With 3 good (fauna-boosting) S-upgrades it's possible to get half a million units from scanning just one rare creature, a very nice source of income early on once your getting more into system and planet jumping...
Not sure if it's a very recent change, but you get the Minotaur for free through the colony management missions, along with a drone companion
It's been that way for a while. You can actually get almost everything for free by doing the story line and side missions.

I've been hunting for ages trying to find my _"perfect planet"_ to make a proper base to settle down in and make good.
They've either got over excitable sentainals, some form of flesh dissolving rain, have heat waves that'll boil a kettle in seconds or freeze you in seconds, far too much radiation for any decent nuclear power plant , the planet's colours are not right _(I'm looking for something Earth'ish-like in colour!),_ not enough flora or fauna or... I don't know... They're just a bit... _"Meh..."_
Some planets have come close, but non, as yet, have _piqued my curiosity_ enough as to settle down. Though using the freighters scanner helps out no end.

PS - You do know that when you _ping the scanner on your freighter,_ and you've got the lay out of the planets, if you click on a planet, it'll tell you what the weather's going to be like plus other information?

Sometimes it helps to turn off multiplayer. I always have it off when recording.

No way in hell the summon animation for the Minotaur wasn't inspired by Titanfall.

btw which difficulty are you on. i noticed a lot of big differences between my game and yours. for 1 A to S class for me is like 16000 while yours is 50k.

You can change exocraft colors on the terminal on the exocraft base that you craft.
