As a British and American citizen, I am tired and ANGERED at the STRESS the guards horses are put through during their "watch" by thoughtless and cruel sightseers wanting that photo that they will never look at again once they have reached their homeland!!!

I agree. I am American with recent British ancestry. I personally do not feel the tourists should be allowed so close for photo ops.
      No good reason for it.
We visited Buckingham palace a few years ago. We took pics from the outside of the gates, out of respect.

You do realize that the whole guard & horsies show has no other purpose than to make tourists flock and take pictures right ? Look at the heavily armed policemen who perform the REAL security duties. Who needs the show and pageant stuff? The PALACE, that is: they are the ones who count on them to uphold their image and make money out of the millions who visit royal venues every year.
Royal Palace authorities know perfectly well that horses and guards are stressed and verbally abused. Animal and human health casualties are inscribed in the debit column. Unfortunately they count for nothing next to the hundreds of million £ they generate in revenue. It’s more formal than a Broadway or Vegas show, but it amounts to the same thing. At least Broadway and Vegas don’t subject animals to that stressful circus.

People are stupid. If you don't know the rules or the law you don't just go wading in. You ask or research the protocol. The polite thing to do, would be to ask permission to touch the horse, even though they can. They cannot touch the reins, bridle etc, that is when they're shouted at. When I go abroad, I research the country I'm going to, to make sure I don't break any laws or protocol. I wish certain arrogant foreigners would do the same when visiting My Country

And, being partially enclosed in the doorway could be a potential danger to both the horse and guard. The Guard would never allow them to be put at risk and if need be, would take action to ensure that wouldn't happen. Britain is a nation of animal lovers, as it would appear are visitors from around the globe and personally speaking I love that. The Household Cavalry horses are trained to cope with lots of people and lots of noise and they do that very well, with some actually appearing to enjoy the attention they get. Can't believe the public is allowed so close to the horses and think they should have to stand behind barriers. Would think most of them have never been that close to a living breathing horse so of course they don't understand how to behave. Cant understand why they have to be in the actual picture. A picture of that magnificent beast and the guard surely should be enough. All the nonsense that goes on when the crowd has to be moved when there is a guard change, etc wouldnt have to happen if the crowd was corralled at all times.

And what's the point of these horses anyway - why not guard using sentries wearing bear skin hats - they're more effective at scaring idiotic public away.

as a rider you need to control and fix your rein problems yourself, glad another was there to help you. Horses have to work for the food just like people otherwise there would be no use for horses and that means they would be gone Gone. Nothing wrong with them standing there getting the pictures taken as long as the people stand at a distance and dont touch without permission and it doesn't hurt the horses either. just like my horses, they can stand there for hours in one place and most time just fall asleep. The four legged guards can move around if the wish. why wasnt that lady arrested?
