Billy Corgans voice is the last of the dying breed! The 90s! Thanks you oh so much for the memories! One of my favorites is “Starz”! It reminds me of doing my first night time skydive! I remember it like it was yesterday!!! Lord have mercy on all of us!
Thankfully we still have Eddie Vedder. But yes, most of those 90s alternative rock/grunge frontmen are now all gone, unfortunately. And, love her or hate her, Courtney Love is also still around (I'm not a rabid fan, but I think she's pretty good, too).
Self-confessed Siamese Zombie here, just recently starting to explore the post-Machina material in greater depth and there’s a lot of great stuff. (Always continued to have a deep love for the band and in particular Billy’s willingness to challenge the audience and himself, I just parted ways for awhile.) Just building out my board now with a ToneX into a Milkman the Amp Stereo for my own “shitty demos” and am getting a lot of inspiration from across the entire catalog.
First time I heard this I wasn't impressed but dang it grew on me hard. As red made roses? Black makes my blood char? Typical Corgan lyrics.... meaning effing awsome! There is a depth that makes you play it enough times for it to grab you by the collar and shake. The repetition of the hook that at first makes it sound boring becomes an ear worm that won't go away through days and days of just living my life. My three year old also likes it which is a plus since she's willing to forgo another round of the Frozen II sountrack that's way past getting old. Thank you Pumpkins for keeping up the good fight.

Nice parallel... I bought the album automatically when it came out... only today I sat down with my best DAC/AMP and headphones to listen to it. The only way I can place it is that this album sounds to me like a 2020 version of the 1980's pop-new wave as such it does not sound like another pumpkins' album outside a vague resemblance to adore (IMO) but now that you say it, yes, it navigates closer to future embrace. This to me is the blended scotch of TSP albums... it is smooth, it stats well it develops well and it ends well... not to adventurous but still great.

This is nice. It simultaneously sounds exactly like and sounds nothing like a Smashing Pumpkins song. But I like the 80's synthy new wave aspect meets Disarm thing it's got going.
Well, no. No shit, it has little in common. Maybe a poor choice on my part, but I'm talking about the song sonically. It just reminds me of the acoustic chord patterns, had they been rearranged, up the tempo, and add a synth wave aesthetic. And boom! You have my thought process.
I appreciate any band that branches out and tries new things with their sound. It's never good to be shoehorned into only writing the same sounding song every time. I just know that a lot of the fanbase misses more psychedelic guitar work and Jimmy getting to shred on the drums more.

What makes the Pumpkins everlasting is to not be afraid to move in different directions. It’s what has always made them such an interesting band. As for Billy’s nasal punk squeal-it’s what makes the Pumpkins who they are. No one sounds like Billy and that’s just the point. I am loving the new stuff.
